In its use of the term hounds, Hound Rescue includes all types of hound breeds. Hound Rescue primarily assists in the rescue and placement of beagles, coonhounds (treeing walker, blue tick, redbone, black & tan), and mixes of these breeds. Hound Rescue also assists with rescue and placement of other hound breeds (e.g. basset hounds, bloodhounds, ridgebacks).
Target demographics: Save at risk Beagles and small hounds from euthanasia in rural shelters.
Direct beneficiaries per year: over 35 dogs find a new forever home and helped several pass with love and dignity.
Geographic areas served: Central Texas Area
Programs: Getting a hound ready to be adopted is a major expense. Each hound that we rescue is given vaccinations, heartworm tested, spayed or neutered, dewormed, and microchipped. If the hound needs treatment for heartworms, we provide that as well at a cost of $200 or more, depending on the weight of the dog. We also provide any other medical care necessary for the dogs, which often includes treatment for kennel cough, skin problems, and other illness, and for older hounds, we sometimes need to provide dental cleanings or tumor removals.
Hound Rescue is a unique, kind and dedicated rescue. They commit their full resources, time, and energy to every dog they rescue. They spend an extensive amount of time making sure their dogs are healthy and happy and that their adoptive family is the right fit. This rescue truly cares about every dog they help and it shows in the happy dogs and families that adopt from them. I am very proud to be a board member for such a passionate and giving organization.
I have been a beagle lover for many years with 2 of my own. Hound Rescue provided me with assistance in different aspects of their lives from training suggestions to new ideas to handle aging dogs. Hound Rescue has also provided a place for dogs to meet new friends as well as their owners to find and grow new friendships! Hound Rescue has worked tirelessly to find the right loving home for each of the dogs they rescue and seeing the joy they bring to their new families is describable! They leave a beautiful mark on your heart!
