Mission: To overcome hunger in our communities through education and by working in a cooperative effort with partner agencies in the procurement and distribution of food, equitably and without discrimination.
Programs: Provided 18. 4 million pounds of nutritious, quality food through 155 partner agencies and direct distribution to 320 pantries at 80 sites. The three largest programs include retail store reclamation and pick-up, agency distributions and mobile pantries.
In the past few years I have had to ask for help in a couple of different areas. Food is the first and foremost need. I have needed to avail myself of the services of The Harry Chapin Food Bank. They volunteers are kind, helpful, and friendly. Everyone associated with the organization does their level best to be of assistance. I have found recently that when you are in need some people look upon you as though you are a bum. Just looking for a handout, in fact that is hardly ever the case. I hope to be able to return some of their kindness by volunteering in their organization.
