Before giving to this organization, I would recommend reading the employee reviews on Glassdoor: http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Grist-Reviews-E298868.htm

I have to say I have followed Grist for a few years but today I found myself rolling on the floor with the great article by Jess Zimmerman. If it wasn't so funny it would not be Grist -with the clear and present danger of the real news stories. Well done Grist- mill out that news as always with the best on the net for truth in the newz.

I host a green talk radio show every Saturday, I write a bi-weekly newsletter, I have a facebook fan page called Mrs. Green's World, a website all about sustainability and I tweet. I need good, reliable informative content. I rely on Grist to provide me with good ideas, research I can count on and information to share with my listeners and readers.

I am a total fan and Umbra wanna be because she provides information to the general public in a fun, informative and sometimes outrageous way. A perfect example is her video on saving water.

GRIST Rocks!

I wish I had the time to read it every day and follow every single link. I've read GRIST off and on for at least ten years. Their ability to simplify complex environmental issues, and bring out information that standard news outlets skip is critical.

The well crafted writing and humor helps soften what usually ends up pissing me off. (e.g., Can you say, approval of Roundup Ready alfalfa?)

I can't tell you how many times I HAVE followed a link on GRIST and ended up with really great data, information I can use to start political arguments, etc.

Read GRIST if you want to be part of the well-informed public.

I work for a foundation, a proud funder of Grist, and I have had the opportunity to get to know them well as an organization over the past two years. Grist provides to the average reader unparalled coverage of current environmental events, and environmental issues on the horizon, and does so with humor and insight. If Grist were to disappear, the information they disseminate would not reach as wide an audience, and the fight for our environment would suffer exponentially.

Grist keeps me abreast of the most recent environmental concerns. In turn, I am able to share with other staff of our small non profit nature conservancy. Their information gives food for thought whether or not I agree is not as important as reading about the issues and various thoughts concerning them. The daily receipt of Grist in me inbox has also provided me with opportunities to speak with my congressmen and keep current on their activities!

Grist is fantastic. They provide a ton of information in short, easy-to-read way that allows the reader to get a summary of information or link to more information, including extensive investigation that Grist does itself.

I read their updates every day and believe they are a critical addition to the environmental movement.

I really appreciate both the sorts of news Grist covers as well as the depth of reporting and variety of perspectives offered. In an era of declining newspaper coverage, I rely on Grist to help keep me aware of all that is happening and to do so in a timely matter. I teach environmental studies at a university and often use the material I find on Grist to help jump start discussions with the students. Highly useful and highly recommended.

As we now see in the Mid East and Wisconsin, misuse of power can only be fought by exposing what is going on by informing the public. The media clearly failed to do so and it was the internet that informed the public and initiated the action we now witness. Mainstream media clearly has been filtering the news in order to keep the public in the dark in support of those in power.
Starting my attempts to correct an essential water pollution test in 1981, when the internet did not exist yet, the media ignored this fact, even tough this test caused the failure of the Clean Water Act, as EPA, by using this test incorrectly, ignored all the pollution caused by nitrogenous (urine and protein) waste in sewage. This, while this waste besides exerting an oxygen demand (like fecal waste) also is a fertilizer for algae, thus contributes to eutrophication often causing dead zones, a phenomenon now acknowledged but mainly blamed on storm water runoffs and runoffs from farms.

Admitted, this is a technical issue apparently too difficult for journalist in the mainstream media to comprehend, but with the new online media, such as grist specifically focused on environmental issues, one would have expected that such an issue would be immediately addressed, even tough it would go against the interest of the established authorities and consequently may result in less advertisement revenues from established business that sadly always prefer the status quo.

The question now is, will Grist Magazine be a new voice in how the general public is informed or will it become an extension of the old media?

Grist is an indispensable source of information and commentary for those, like me, committed to environmental sustainability as a profession and a path of personal living. Grist addresses the broad range of issues it addresses such as biodiversity, energy sources and uses, climate change, exponential economic growth are those vital to the survival of life on Earth for all living things and humankind. Grist addresses the issues from a systemic and practical point of view. The information is actionable for individuals and on a policy level. It is offered in clear, powerful language, with humor, delight and hope and with ways to follow-up that are very useful and timely.

Authors like Bill McKibben and those on the Grist editorial staff cover vital issues unfolding in real time so those of us can have a broad grasp of current issues as they unfold.

As a retired editor and writer, I would like to put in a good word for this wonderful online magazine. They cover original material in a hard-hitting, show-no-mercy manner with a heavy dose of wry humor on the side. They're not afraid to tell it like it is. I read them every day.
