As a GALT volunteer and donor, I can definitely attest to this important organization. My greyhound broke his leg during his last race back in 2010. GALT is the only greyhound adoption group in Texas that will accept greyhounds with broken leg injuries from the racetrack. Without GALT, I shudder to think of what would have happened to him. GALT paid for his broken leg surgery and his loving foster mom opened up her home to him during his recuperation. With GALT, you can rest assured your donation will go towards helping the greyhounds.
GALT is a remarkable greyhound rescue organization run 100% by volunteers and funded 100% by donations and fundraisers. My involvement with GALT started when my husband and I began our search for a new family member. During our adoption process we discovered GALT to be extremely organized, efficient, and dedicated. Due to the the generous donations and hard work of GALT's volunteers, thousands of greyhounds have been placed into forever homes.
We first came to know GALT when a friend of ours let us know about a greyhound that needed a new home. We got to know the people running the organization at that time, and now have our second greyhound as a part of our family. The leadership and volunteers of GALT are all around wonderful people, who help greyhounds find their forever homes. The volunteers who foster greyhounds do a wonderful job transitioning the dogs from their life at the racetrack to a life with a family. GALT make sure the dogs are completely healthy, and prepared for home life prior to allowing them to be adopted. The cost to GALT to prepare each animal for adoption is far greater than the adoption fee that they receive from the adopting family, and GALT does a great job raising funds. In the past, we owned restaurants, and partnered with GALT for fundraising activities. The truly wonderful thing about GALT is that they live up to their motto of "No grey turned away." Anytime they are contacted they take in the hound and prep him or her for adoption. GALT is a top-flight organization, and one I'm proud to have helped, and will continue to support them as best I can.
When we decided to adopt a greyhound, little did we know we were truly blessed when we met GALT. They're the premier greyhound adoption group in the country and have the most committed and loving volunteers. I have witnessed first-hand that they do whatever it takes (however much it costs) to improve each greyhound's health to 100% normal before they're available for adoption. And they do all this while keeping costs as low as possible. We can't imagine life without our sweet Diva (former racing name, Killer Diva). She is the light of our lives.
GALT is a collection of volunteers who work tirelessly to educate the public about greyhounds and offer fostering and adoption services for these wonderful pets. They have been very helpful in answering questions and providing advice about caring for my dog. Highly recommended!
GALT is a greyt organization that will always help a greyhound in need. They make sure the new greyhound owners are educated on the breed and that the dog makes a smooth transition into the new family. They truly care about the greyhounds.
Adopting a greyhound from GALT, can not only get you a wonderful companion but also a whole new purpose. These dogs have a chance because of the love, passion and energy that the folks at GALT put into every dog. Through their excellent network of medical care, grooming, fostering, training, rescue and TLC, each dog is personally attended to. When you adopt a grey, there is help, advice and support. Before you know it, your fostering and adopting more! So far we have adopted 3 our of the six we fostered:) When you see the amount of heart these folks have you just want to jump in and help too. We work with many charities and GALT is the most well run, effective and genuine that we have had the pleasure of serving.
I will always have a greyhound in my family. Thanks to G.A.L.T. I am blessed with a sweet four legged member of my family. This organization not only rescues retired racers, but as in the case of my adopted greyhound, they are available to rescue any greyhound. My dog's parents were found running loose and the mother dog was pregnant. They not only rescued her but were able to find homes for all her puppies. Most people are not aware of what happens to the retired racers and through G.A.L.T.'s education programs that is being corrected. Thank you G.A.L.T. for all you do for these beautiful sight hounds.
We have adopted two beautiful hounds from GALT. Their volunteers, Foster homes and veteranarians far exceed any organization I have ever been associated with. I don't know how to thank all of the people involved with this organization, if it were not for those Angels for Greyhounds my house would not be as filled with love, Thank you all, Ann Sparks
GALT is an extraordinary group of volunteers that is willing to take in and care for any greyhound. They are constantly raising funds and promoting greyhound welfare, but they are never pushy or preachy. GALT is very active in both community events and social media to reach a wide audience. My experience with the volunteers has always been very positive. The people are very nice and knowledgeable about greyhounds and the organization.
This is an awesome group that never stops advocating for the Greyhounds. I adopted my wonderful Mona from them and it was a great experience. They are constantly promoting their dogs, raising funds for their care and educating about the breed. I can't imagine that any group does as much for the Greyhounds!
We adopted our fifth greyhound from GALT a couple of months ago. From beginning to end the process was seamless. Communication between volunteer arms was excellent. People were friendly, helpful and attentive.
I've adopted a number of greyhounds over the years from a number of organizations over the years and this was definitely the best experience.
I look forward to further connection with this group and hopefully volunteering in the future.
Thanks GALT, for a great experience!
We adopted our first Greyhound - Angel in the summer of 2001. She was GALT's #004. We have since adopted 3 more Greyt ones.
The organization's "Army" of volunteers is amazing. There are events every week of the year and they are always run beautifully. The love that the volunteers have for these dogs and their futures know no boundaries.
If corporations were run as well as Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, there would be a lot more successful companies. But then, the secret of GALTs success is the love and dedication of the participants for the dogs.
My husband and I have been sharing our home with a variety of animals more than 30 yrs then suddenly found ourselves "empty nesters" and without a dog when our daughter moved away and took the beloved family Husky with her. We had attended the NTx Irish Festival that year and met several of the representatives from GALT who introduced us to this very special breed. A month later, we began the search for our first grey. GALT was incredibly responsive and patient, diligent and informative. We knew it would be a challenge to find a "cat tolerant" grey that could fit in with our family of 15 cats (8 of which actually would share space inside the house). We found our "Princess" Lacy and have been hooked ever since. I have watched their website regularly, became a member, have donated when possible (including our old truck) and participated in their auctions. My work schedule has prevented me from attending all of the many gatherings and galas, but my heart is with them always. I have never seen such an active, caring, well-organized family of volunteers. I do so admire and respect each of them for their dedication and unbridled passion for this breed. It's no wonder they have enjoyed so much success in spreading the word and educating the public as they strive to unite hundred of sensitive and loving greys with their forever homes. Buddy and I, Pricess Lacy and Hunter (our second grey) would like to say, "Thank you , GALT, for everything you do!"
GALT made our family complete with the addition of a hound. They all work so hard to keep the pups in good shape and going to good homes. If our house ever starts to feel a little too roomy we will add another GALT hound in a minute. Thanks to them for all their hard work!
Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is one of the very best humane, adoption agencies in the US. Greyhounds deserve the best homes and treatments and are the least likely to receive them. Too many are bred for racing and discarded. In GALT's ten years of operation they have provided medical care and homes for hundreds and hundreds of greys. Their fund raising for the greys is unceasing and their officers are untiring in their efforts.
I have a beautiful grey, Roxie, adopted from GALT. She is the light of my life and if I weren't 80 years old, I would adopt more. I love them. They are the most beautiful, sweet dogs and I am grateful to GALT.
GALT is such an incredible organization. My greyhound Olivia is such a joy, and GALT did an amazing job of making sure that I got to meet a ton of dogs and choose the perfect one. They also have a ton of activities for humans and dogs so we can all stay in touch. They are extremely well organized that make sure greyhounds are safe and well cared for, and they do their best to find foster homes for the dogs that are waiting for adoption. GALT is the best pet adoption organization I have seen or dealt with, and when I get a brother or sister for Olivia, they will come from GALT as well. Please check them out! They have a very good website as well!
I have adopted two greyhounds through Greyhound Adoption League of Texas. The needs of the greyhounds and their placement as pets in loving, safe homes is paramount to this organization, and the volunteers are tireless. They will not refuse any greyhound in need, even driving long distances to pick up and deliver greyhounds, and they meet all the medical needs of any sick or injured greys. This past summer was their shiningest moment when they took in many greyhounds that had been seized in an animal cruelty case in Fort Worth, Texas. These hounds had no one to speak for them but GALT, and sadly some of therm did not survive their horrid treatment despite all GALT did for them. But the ones GALT has successfully placed in forever homes and foster homes are the ultimate success stories.
We have adopted 6 greyhounds through GALT over a number of years. The greys have come to us in good condition after having been treated lovingly by this group. The volunteers are tireless in their love and work ethic for these wonderful dogs.
I have been following GALT online since 2005. I am now a member and have recently adopted one of their greyhounds. GALT is amazing. No dog is too sick, too feeble, etc. for them to take. GALT does not put a dollar cap on what they will do to rehabilitate dogs. The dog I adopted cost GALT over $4500.
GALT is very active in the community with fund raising, meet and greets, etc. They truly care about greyhounds and want to educate the public on what wonderful dogs they are. Their Facebook page is great. They don't just simply post information about fund raising; they celebrate adoptions, post updates on dogs who are under medical care, and always respond to wall posts and comments from the public.
