This is a rescue group that takes in all greyhounds, retired racers, coyote hunters, strays, breeding females, injured greyhounds, greyhounds that have lost their homes, mixed breed greyhounds, and sadly, abuse cases. GALT provides the best medical care and then volunteers foster the dogs, teaching them the joys of life in a home until the day they find their forever homes. Before they are adopted GALT absorbs the cost of neutering as well as any medical care a greyhound may need including surgeries. There are no employees, everyone involved is a volunteer and the rescue is well organized, efficient, and exceptionally devoted to the care of these beautiful creatures.
We adopted Zamboni through GALT. My wife had adopted Jettie through them years ago and after her passing, we were ready for a new Grey. GALT was thorough and timely in their home inspection and we hit it off with the veterinarian who was the inspector right away. Zamboni's foster graciously welcomed us into her home and we also bonded with her as he got along with our dogs, who we brought along. The paperwork was processed timely and Zamboni is a beautiful dog who was well-cared for during his fostering and has become part of our family very fast. We would recommend GALT with our highest regards.
I’ve always loved animals and knew early on they would be an important part of my life. Greyhounds were not familiar to me - and my childhood home was always a cat home (
My husband and I recently adopted from the New Mexico chapter of GALTX. They have been wonderful! The volunteers were incredibly kind and helpful during the adoption process. They made sure we were informed on greyhounds and their unique needs and differences from other breeds. When we couldn't get to Texas to pick up our new boy, a volunteer drove there himself to bring the pup back. They've been great after the adoption, too. I've been in contact with several of them over some minor issues that have come up. They've sent links, advice, and offers of help. I had no idea that when we adopted that we'd be welcomed into such a loving, supportive community. I can't recommend them enough.
After one of our greyhounds passed away, we completed an adoption application with GALT. We had been following their work on line for years and felt they were responsible and compassionate. No greyhound needs a home if GALT is anywhere nearby - they take them all. We were thoroughly checked out and were approved for adoption. They suggested we adopt a 9-month old puppy who had had a badly broken leg. GALT had it surgically repaired (she has a plate and 7 screws.) We drove from Maryland to Dallas to pick up our little girl (nearly 2,500 miles round trip.) They selected the perfect dog for us. We could not be happier. We wouldn't hesitate to adopt from them again or to recommend them to others.
This nonprofit group remains firmly focused on its mission through sharp oversight, professional management, and continuous program improvements. Thanks to smart management and its fundraising strengths, GALT can take in dogs needing even the most expensive medical and surgical treatment or extensive foster home rehab. Potential adopters are thoroughly yet realistically screened (an issue with some adoption groups), and adopters receive post-adoption support with the dog's best interests at heart. My experience with GALT comes as a satisfied three-time adopter and volunteer.
GALT runs a tight ship. These dogs get the best of care, no matter where they come from. The organization is run professionally and with great heart, and it's a pleasure to volunteer with them.
GALT is the best greyhound adoption group anywhere. Their dedication to the hounds and their adopters & volunteers is just astounding! They are very helpful to their adopters and have built a wonderful network of supporting medical facilities that help us all to keep the hounds happy & healthy. And the events are just a blast! If you are looking for a wonderful 4-legged companion, check out GALT!
It is my honor and privilege to continue my support of GALT. I have been a proud member and supporter for many years. GALT lives it's "no grey turned away" vision every single day. They don't turn away from a greyhound/sighthound in need. GALT's volunteers are the lifeblood of this organization. I am so very happy to be a part of this amazing organization .
GALT is the gold standard among greyhound adoption groups, they go above and beyond for the hounds, dedicated and passionate, we've adopted 3 hounds so far, more in the future!, I can only say positive things about this organization
This is an awesome group that helps place retired racing greyhounds in their forever homes. I have adopted one from them 7 years ago and another one 3 years ago. Their on going commitment to the health and safety of these dogs is amazing. They stay on top of the needs of the various dogs and the families that adopt them.
I was so impressed with GALT, I wrote a book called "A Tale of Two Tails" about adopting two greyhounds through them. They are the most dedicated group of people whose main concern is making the sure the greys are placed in good loving homes. The volunteers are all dedicated to the dogs. They go way above and beyond what a rescue group normally does to help place dogs. Should something happen that the "forever home" can no longer take care of the greys, then they take them back to help find another home for them. I would highly recommend anyone to them. They know the dogs and help find just the right one for you to meet your needs.

I joined Greyhound Adoption League of Texas when I moved to Texas and adopted a greyhound from GALT in 2014. I was so impressed with the people and the careful adoption process that I started volunteering as a foster parent. I learned the meaning of GALT's motto, "no grey turned away," when I fostered a lovely greyhound mix named Hera. She stole my heart while in my care and ended up in a great home. Not every greyhound group would take a mix, or a stray, untattooed hound. GALT does! As well as sick and injured hounds.
Almost all animal adoption/rescue groups mean well, but GALT is exceptionally well-managed and accountable. When you donate to GALT or volunteer, you know that your money and hard work really is for the dogs, not for the enrichment of the organization. I would highly recommend Greyhound Adoption League of Texas if you are looking for a worthy, highly effective charity.
My husband and I adopted our first greyhound from GALT in 2007 and our second in 2013. As supporters, I have observed the very utmost in professionalism and dedication of their volunteers and founders. The care given to every single greyhound who is lucky enough to get to GALT is 100% heartfelt. They never give up on a dog , no matter the condition, they will do everything possible to give him/her a quality of life that every animal deserves.
This organization has given me opportunities to meet and make friends as well.
i can't say enough good things about GALT!
I originally adopted my first greyhound 5 years ago. The process taken for each individual greyhound is handled with the utmost care, love and professionalism. The GALT volunteers are true family; not just greyhound related but also in life. I also have worked as a volunteer when the rescues first come into GALT care and have seen the process from initial care to finding these gentle spirits their forever homes. I am thankful beyond measure for what they do. Life is precious. You will learn so much more about life and love when you adopt a greyhound.
GALT lives by its motto of no grey turned away. They are there every step of the way for both the greyhounds and for the humans. Once you're a part of them, it's for life - they are family. I've adopted 2 hounds from them and when it is time to adopt another, it is through GALT that it will happen through.
I had fallen in love with a dog who came into GALT's possession as a survivor from a massive animal cruelty case. They spared no expense with him, and made sure he was nursed back to proper health. The more I found out about Charlie, the more I wanted him - even though we were 1000 miles away. Knowing how protective rescues are of their furkids and how hard it is for them to allow the adoptees to move far away, let alone 2 states over, I was extremely happy with how UNintimidating the interviews and home check processes were. I felt as though I was part of the GALT family even before Charlie was officially ours. I think GALT's entire adoption process is absolutely perfect as it properly serves both the adoptee and adopter alike.
After agonizing about what to do with our beloved greyhound because we were being transferred out of the country,
Greyhound Adoption League of Texas stepped in and found the greyest home for her. The thoughtful volunteers kept us abreast of every part of the re home, and, now that we are permanently here in the US, will help us now find our next grey. They are efficient, kind, and extremely knowledgable . They are the perfect people to help all of us find our next perfect pet!
Our beloved greyhound, Jenny, had to be re-homed when we moved out of the country. She was not adopted from GALT, but the wonderful people from this organization not only took her in, but found the best new home for her possible. Their volunteers and staff were concerned about her well being, as well as ours. I HIGHLY recommend this organization to any would-be adopters, and will be glad when we return from our foreign assignment and retire so we can be parents to a set of greys. First time adopters would be wise to allow these folks to help you through the learning curve, as all of the staff know the dogs and understand that a happy home for ALL is the objective in any adoption.
There is a special place in Heaven for the people in this organization. We have adopted three beautiful houndies from GALT. Their volunteers are exceptional. The love they show to each and everyone of their rescues is extremely beautiful. I have the most respect for all that are involved with this organization. They are true friends of the adoption process to the people adopting and most of all to the hounds!
We adopted our Sweetie 4 yrs ago, from GALT. Since then we have adopted Johnny B and Barnaby. GALT is the most wonderful group of people in the Greyhound rescue organizations! They are always there for you, if you need assistance, they also are always finding ways to get everyone together for the hounds! I am a better person for being allowed to know these wonderful giving angels!
The most caring and compassionate Greyhound Rescue Organization! We have adopted 3 beautiful Greyhound souls from these wonderful people! Their devotion and caring exceeds all other Greyhound Rescue Groups we have dealt with! No Grey turned away.....and they truly mean this!
I've been a volunteer with the Greyhound Adoption League of TX for 3 years. Since joining this wonderful organization, I've looked forward to the day when I was able to foster or adopt my own grey. At the end of 2012, I took in a dog as a foster to see if adoption was for me, and was very satisfied with how much support I received from GALT coordinators. They were always happy to answer questions as this was the first dog I'd ever been responsible for. I quickly realized that my life wouldn't be the same without my special foster, and decided that I had to make it official. I adopted him about 3 weeks after picking him up from the kennel, and I can't imagine life without my boy. GALT is such a great group of people, and they care so much for each grey that comes into their care. The kennel volunteers that cared for my dog prior have all checked in and asked how he's doing. This organization doesn't forget about dogs after they've been placed in homes, and I think that quality makes GALT truly special.
GALT is an organization that really cares about the welfare of their dogs. When I was ready to adopt another greyhound I was walked step by step through the process from the intial application, attending meet & greets, an in-home visit to see the desired dog, and the final delivery of the dog (Jiffy) to my home.
I adopted my greyhound this past February. GALT was wonderful to work with. The process was easy and pie and now I own a wonder, sweet grey. I enjoy the news letters, as well as the fundraisers to help with the vet bills for some of the incoming greys who need medical attention. I look forward to possibly adopting another grey and working and/or volunteering for this wonderful organization in the future.
We adopted our first greyhound 3 years ago from another organization. When we decided to adopt another greyhound this year, we reached out to GALT. We have been amazed at this incredible group of people who have dedicated their time, dollars and hearts to helping a breed considered by some to be disposable. They spent time getting to know us, meeting our family, including our other greyhound, and answering our questions to ensure that we found the right fit for our family and lifestyle. We ended up adopting a hound who was injured during a race on a track near the gulf coast. GALT volunteers transported him to the DFW area, sought medical evaluation for his badly broken leg, and after it was determined that the leg should be removed, they made sure he got the necessary surgery and then the post-surgery care and love he needed to heal. He had wonderful foster parents who cared for him until he hopped into our lives. We've been loving him ever since and he has become a special part of our family... we can't imagine our family without him now and we have the wonderful folks of GALT to thank!
