I have been a dog lover and greyhound lover all my life. I decided it was time to get involved and become a foster so I asked around on Facebook and asked some of my other friends who volunteer and they told me to go with GALT. It was so easy to start helping out. The other fosters are so helpful and you can always find someone to talk to if you have a question. If you just want to adopt and not foster, that's very easy, too! These dogs are taken in and treated like family. When you adopt you will find out things about your new family member. He/she won't just be dropped at your house with a hope that you can figure It all out. It's definitely the best way to go if you're able to take in an extra grey or two, or three.

As I write this three of our four greyhounds sleep near me. These three are our precious GALT Girls. Our senior girl Lou healed my heart, our first tripaw Gertie stole my heart and our second tripaw Peggy raced into our hearts spreading lots of wiggly joy. These three girls were all introduced to us through the efforts of the GALT staff and volunteers. GALT works tirelessly to ensure the greys get the best health care and training to help them find the perfect forever homes. GALT is simply the BEST!

I have been volunteering for several years now and I consider the people and dogs of GALT to be my family. The leadership and dedication shown by the volunteers is absolutely amazing. There is no expense spared to make sure that these dogs receive the best possible care and no grey is turned away! I must admit I have been a foster failure 4 times (adopted my foster)...but have fostered over 40 dogs and fallen in love with all of them. I would strongly encourage anyone who is interested in a loving companion to consider adopting a greyhound.

I have been volunteering as a foster mom with GALT for the entire time it had been in existence - 13 years, and stopped counting at 80 fosters hound. I LOVE the dogs and my GALT family. There is no end to the support, care, patience and love this group gives to both the hounds and the volunteers. The absolute best nonprofit around....

I've been volunteering with the Greyhound Adoption League of TX for about a year now. Their mission statement of "No Grey Turned Away" defines their dedication. What a wonderful group of loving and dedicated volunteers who go the distance for the dogs they take in. I became an official "failed foster mom" just this month when I adopeted Vincent (aka NY Vinny). I

My husband is a veterinarian and he has done some of the vet work for GALT since they started in 2001. We have both worked with many animal rescue organizations but Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is by far the best. They should write a book on how to run a rescue organization. To date they have found forever homes for over 2100 greyhounds. They work strictly on donations with an operating budget of over $250,000 per year. Their fundraising abilities are just phenomenal and this group works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate and adopt greyhounds, all the while, educating the general public about the joys of owning a greyhound. We have never worked with a better group of volunteers and what they do for greyhounds should not go unnoticed.

I initially adopted from GALT. It was the spirit and the professionalism of the volunteers that inspired me to be a part of this organization. I have now been a volunteer for about 2 years. This organization and it's all volunteer 'staff' are superior to any other organization that I have been involved in. The work that is done by this team to support the cause, 'NO GREY TURNED AWAY', is amazing. The dogs benefit, the adopters are supported even AFTER they adopt, there is a sense of community within the organization and the overall goal, to provide outstanding care to sight hounds is accomplished through the tireless efforts of the volunteers.

I just became a foster home for two Galt greyhounds. This organization is top notch, and most important, are all about the lives of these beautiful Greyhounds. Please take the time a read everything you can on the Galt's home web site, it will inform you, answer questions, entertain you, make you laugh and yes get the tissue out because you just might cry in happiness and sadness. So far everyone that I have talked to has been so kind, friendly and helpful. I have two fosters at this time, and I just love them. I look forward to getting to know all the wonderful people that make Galt who they are. (a quote I have read before) The Greyhound has such a large chest, but it has to be, because their heart is so big! To ALL the people that make Galt work, thank you. Starr from East Texas

GALT has been in existence since 2001 and helped over 2100 greyhounds find their forever homes in its first 11 years of operation. Now in its 12th year, this all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization is more committed than ever to its mottof of "No Grey Turned Away." In addition to placing former racing greys, GALT accepts owner returns, strays and victims of neglect situations. The adoption fees charged are quite modest, compared to the money GALT spends to ensure that all dogs are healthy and free of parasites before designating them as available for adoption.

Other than adoption fees, GALT depends entirely on donations to cover it primary operating expenses -- i.e. medical costs and boarding fees. A dedicated group of foster parents helps defray the boarding costs significantly. In addition to to providing a home and food for the foster greys, they also introduce the dogs to a home environment and teach them "house manners" -- including crate and potty training. Many of these foster parents join another large army of volunteers who help take care of dogs in boarding, provide transportation and assist with fundraising.

My husband and I have adopted three GALT greys, and we have fostered many others. We also assist with "TLC" for the dogs in boarding and are active in several GALT fundraisers. We do as much as we can because we truly believe in the work that GALT is doing!

My husband and I got involved with GALT after adopting our first greyhound in January 2008. Since then, we have become active volunteers, foster parents and donors for this incredible organization (and we also adopted a second greyhound along the way!) GALT received some greatly needed financial help (and recognition) from people all around the world this summer when word spread of its efforts to rescue several dogs in the horrible abuse case in Fort Worth (as documented in some of the other reviews on this site.) However, the need for funds is never-ending, since GALT relies heavily on donations in order to live up to its primary mission of never turning away a greyhound in need.

GALT has taken in several retired racers with broken legs in the past few months, along with several strays and other greys with severe illnesses. Medical expenses for each of these cases total several thousand dollars -- and they are still mounting. While some of the Fort Worth dogs have finally become healthy enough for adoption, there are still several who are continuing to receive special medical treatment.

GALT charges very reasonable adoption fees -- which only cover a portion of normal medical / processing costs. Another terrific thing about GALT? Before allowing a greyhound to be considered for adoption, this organization spends whatever is required for medical care to return the dog to full health. When you adopt a GALT dog, you know you are getting a completely HEALTHY animal with current vaccinations. As a result, the post-adoption "surprises" are held to an absolute minimum. Owner returns are relatively rare, but GALT's contract specifies that it will take back ANY adopted greyhound if problems do arise -- even if the problems have nothing to do with the dog (economic reasons, death, divorce, etc.) As a matter of fact, the contract REQUIRES the adopter to return the dog to GALT; that's how committed this organization is to each and every dog for the LONG term!

GALT's commitment to "No Grey Turned Away" is appreciated by individuals near and far who are watching our organization's every move and all that we do. However, most importantly, GALT is appreciate most by those who benefit most from GALT - the Greyhounds themselves who find their way into in loving and forever homes.

For example, our first Greyhound, Mackie, he was found wandering with his brother, Luke, on the streets of Fort Worth. We "met him" online nine years ago. We loved Mackie for oh so short of a time as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge much too early. Then we met Sammy in Rockwall, and he found his way into our hearts and home four and a half years ago. He also brought us to a new found friend/family member, his original owner. Our lives are complete.

I can't think of a better organization that lives and breathes each day to make sure every Greyhound that comes to GALT WILL be safe, loved and find its forever home .

We have been very lucky to have been "adopted" by two wonderful Greyhound boys in the past eight years through GALT. Our first, Mackie, passed away unexpectedly four years ago. Of course, we were devistated, but three months later we adopted our second furkid through GALT. Sammy and he is a total joy in our lives. GALT makes this happen for Greyhounds and their potential parents every day of every year of their existance. There is not ONE GREY ever turned away by this incredible group of volunteers who sole purpose is to find a greyt home for these greyt dogs. I know there are others like me who count their blessings every day that GALT is here and ready to help when we are called upon. Thank you GALT for past, present and future placements of Greyhounds into their forever homes.

Greyhound Adoption League of Texas has a goal of, No Grey Turned Away. I do my part to support that goal by fostering Greyhounds for GALT.

GALT makes it easy to foster - they provide all the vetting, the monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and the support of and knowledge from very experienced vets and volunteers. All I provide is food and love!

I believe that GALT helps me make a difference in the lives of Greyhounds, as well as a difference in my own life.

Thank you, GALT!

I have been working with the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas(GALT) for over two years now and am still impressed with how this group is ran. I have never been a part of such a wonderful rescue group that truly treats their rescues and volunteers like part of their family. GALT has a "No Grey Turned Away" policy that is just amazing. Many of these hounds come in with broken legs and other issues. The volunteers do whatever needed to help these hounds recover and find the best home. I have never seen such hard working folks!

This wonderful non-profit rescue group works with rescued and retired Greyhounds. Many of the dogs that are taken in by the group have broken legs or other injuries that require medical attention. The medical fund is typically emptied right after it is replenished due to the medical needs for incoming hounds. This group does an amazing job keeping in touch and following up with fosters and potential adopters. They stick to their policy about " No Grey Turned Away" and truly care for these dogs. I have worked with many groups but found myself drawn to this group because of their devotion and professionalism.

Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is an amazing rescue organization. After our must loved greyhound went to the rainbow bridge, we started to look at the different organizations to adopt a new one. The things that GALT does for their dogs before they are adopted out is incredible, from a extensive medical check, dental cleaning, and even an eye specialist for my dog who has one eye that had some scaring. The things they do when you adopt a dog are amazing too, the information they provide to you about the breed for your vet is really helpful, since greyhounds can be quite different from many other dogs. I was so impressed with the kindness, generosity, and caring of the people that I meet through GALT that I became a volunteer and now a foster parent myself. Helping GALT and the lives they save and the human lives they benefit are amazing.

I have had the wonderful experience of getting to know this group, and their volunteers on Facebook in the past 3 years. Their fundraisers are delightful and professionally run, and I am always happy to participate in them. But the best news is their rescue and adoption record. They have taken in ex-racers, emergency groups of dogs from hoarding and abuse situations, and bounce-backs from owners who could no longer keep their pets. They have rescued puppies under a year, and sweet old gents and ladies---and have adopted them out around the country. Every detail is in order, and the dogs end up in permanent loving homes. Because of the high professionalism and dedication, the hounds and adopters all win big!

I wasn't sure what to expect but oh how lovely GALT is. These are very lucky hounds indeed! Friendly people and great hounds. It is so brilliant how everything is all put together and how hard all these people work. It was such a pleasure to see the hounds and meet Susie McQuad. Lovely lovely lady :o) xxxx

Every single day I see the positive difference that GALT makes in the lives of greyhounds and the people who love them. I see it in my own personal greys, the greys adopted from GALT that belong to my friends and in those greyhounds awaiting their forever homes in the GALT adoption program. GALT goes above and beyond in the care of the greys that come into their arms. When a grey needs medical help, whether it be a tick borne disease, a heartworm infection, broken bone or a sudden unexplained blindness like my "Spot", they do everything in their power to make sure that greyhound receives the treatment he/she needs to be healthy and whole again. I love GALT with all my heart

My relationship with GALT began when a couple of Greyhound puppies from Oklahoma City needed rescue. Our local greyhound rescue only takes retired racers, but they referred me to GALT. They told me GALT takes puppies. I had one puppy at my house already and one just hours away from being euthanized and the Oklahoma City animal shelter. I was scrambling to find a rescue to take them into their program. No one had room! I messaged the GALT facebook page and begged for help. Within minutes they agreed to help and immediately got in touch with the shelter and faxed them their 501c3. I was then given go ahead to pick the greyhound puppy up less 45 minutes before she was to be euthanized. They saved her life. Once I got her to my home I realized she had some fear aggression issues. I was really worried what her future was going to be. GALT reassured me they have some awesome trainer/fosters that will work with her for as long as she needs. Both greyhounds ended up in fabulous homes and I still get updates. I love it! Months later they took another greyhound puppy for me from the Enid shelter. They help a great deal with transport and make it very easy. I look forward to a long relationship this rescue and I can't say enough good things about them! Chelsi Young- Animal rescuer/volunteer

I became involved with GALT March of 2012 as a foster parent. GALT was highly recommended to me by friends and associates. I am truly impressed with my experience’s working with this Non-Profit Organization. They are always available for support. We discuss openly the joys and challenges we face each day. Their hearts, loyalty and drive are in it for the right reasons, Greyhounds! They are business savvy, sharp and intelligent. They are very committed to saving, nurturing, and sharing the wonderful experience of owning a Greyhound(s) to anyone with an open heart.
