5 stars is just not enough to rate this rescue. Tom cares so much about every single dog. The dogs are always the number one priority. He has a special way of placing the correct dog with the best adopters. I have so much respect for this rescue.
German shepherd save haven is a wonderful organization committed to saving German shepherd dogs worth saving and in need of a forever home. The dogs are amazing but they would not stand a chance without Tom, the head of the organization, and all the other people that contribute as foster parents and volunteers. It is their commitment to the well-being of the dogs that makes this wonderful charitable organization such a success. No one can realize how wonderful and unique these dogs are until you have had one. Tom makes sure that the dog is paired up with the right family for the dog. We have had our German Shepherd that we got through him for one year and our life has changed in so many positive ways. Our boy, Wyatt, brings us so much joy every day. If it weren't for the hard work that Tom and coworkers put into these dogs so many would not stand a chance. Thank you, Tom, and thank you GSSH!!!
I actually live in the same complex a few buildings away from the woman that had this big German Shepard. I don't know her personally or the dog she turned back in. She did not need a big dog because she had a very hard time controlling the dog on walks and especially around other dogs. I had heard early on about a dog attacking this German Shephard. There are neighbors that live around me who have dogs and are relieved that she does not have the dog anymore. I was not personally involved with the situation but wanted to know more about this organization so I searched last night and found this site and just had to write a positive review because I agree with her decision on turning the dog back. It is sad, but when you can not provide the basic dog needs (like walking) then you should not have the dog plus you should want what is best for the dog and not be so selfish. Also get a dog that fits your lifestyle and one you can control, like a poodle or a smaller dog! I agree with some of the other reviews that you are only hurting the dogs that are trying to find their forever home.
I heard about the poor woman who had her rescue dog repossessed without just cause. There is no recourse or due process if you adopt through this company. Moreover the principal of this company has harassed adoptive owners. This company does not put the dog's interests first. Please avoid the heartache and adopt through a licensed breeder.
When a person writes a review on a dog rescue organization and uses reference to "They Heard about a poor woman" How much merit or facts do they have on the person who surrendered the dog back to the organization. NONE! This person does not know the facts in the case and should not just write a review because of what they heard. Recommending people to a licensed breeder, for one there is no such thing as a licensed breeder and two why would you recommend one when dogs are dying in the shelter every day. It seems this person does not have the dogs best interest in mind when writing this review.
The founder of this shelter (TOM) recently repossessed a german shepherd who was adopted by a woman in my neighborhood. This woman is one of the most responsible and loving pet owners I have ever seen. She took incredible care of her former german shepherd ,who had some serious health conditions, and gave her a long, happy life.
I heard the german shepherd she adopted thru "safe haven" was bitten by another from safe haven who was not on a leash, but her dog got taken away and not the other one?
I don't know what is going on, but if this establishment is rushing in and grabbing their german shepherds back from someone like my neighbor, I would definitely think twice about adopting from them.
Something isn't adding up, and NONE of it seems to be in the best interest of the dog.
This review has no merit. The person writing this review did not have direct contact with Tom the Founder. The dog was surrendered back to German Shepherd Safe Haven not repossessed as described.
My husband and I are fostering Eli and will be adopting him this week. It has really been a good experience overall. Tom continues to give us endless advice and support while introducing him into our home. One thing that is most apparent is that Tom loves these dogs. It is amazing to see the transformation in the dogs after he has rescued, rehabilitated, and trained. If you have ever wanted a German Shepherd, I strongly urge you to contact them. This rescue is all about their love of these magnificent animals and getting them happy homes!
I have to say I have visit them at the big adoption events Pet Expo, Irvine Animal Care Center, LaBrea Tar Pit Best Friends. All I can say is WOW what a different rescue group. All the events I have seen them at they were always very consistant with the way the organization was run. You can tell that it is all about the dogs. The booth set-up is top notch and always the same set up and very professional and calming. The volunteers are all wearing the same color olive shirt with a name badges on so you know who is working at the event. They are always welcoming into their booth, their dogs were all so well behaved and one thing about their dogs they are very clean and do not smell like dogs!! It seems to me that they are running their organization like a business and it reminds me when I go to the Apple store to compare them too. Great job Tom and Jen and all the wonderful people involved in your rescue group.
