Geographic areas served: Southern Arizona

Programs: GAP Ministries, a social service nonprofit serving Southern Arizona since 1999, Stands in the GAP for those in need in two core areas: Family and Community. GAP cares for foster children and works toward the healthy restoration of families. We provide food and necessary items to the needy through outreach and partnerships. GAP believes we can impact the lives of children, families and communities, one life at a time. GAP's mission is simple: Standing in the GAP for those in need. Bringing help to children, healing to families, and hope to the community. FAMILY: GAP cares for over 400 foster children and teens annually in 14 family style group homes in Tucson. Siblings are able to stay together while in care due to the larger size of our homes. GAP helps foster teens and young adults learn the life skills necessary to successfully “age out” of foster care and into adulthood with mentoring and independent living programs. To better deal with the root causes of the foster care crisis, GAP is a local provider of court-mandated visitation programs for foster children and their birth parents. We are also certified by the state to provide training and licensing of foster parents. It is our desire and goal to see healthy restoration of families when possible. COMMUNITY: GAP’s Community warehouse shares fresh food and basic needs items with over 90 Southern Arizona nonprofits serving the needy. Almost 1 million pounds of healthy vegetables, fruit, and other perishable items are distributed annually throughout the community by GAP’s partnering nonprofits. Throughout Southern Arizona, nonprofits that serve the marginalized annually receive close to $1,000,000 worth of hygiene items, paper goods, cleaning supplies and other needed items from GAP’s warehouse. Through partnerships with nonprofits, churches, businesses, schools and hundreds of volunteers, GAP’s outreaches serve food, backpacks, and toys at Christmas to low-income children and their families. Our Community Kitchen trains young people in the culinary arts, while maximizing the use of donated perishable food and feeding thousands in the community. Feeding programs include the Flowing Wells School District’s 6 elementary school after-school programs, with two Amphitheater schools.

I am so impressed with the care and love that the house parents give to these precious children! Through no fault of their own, they have been put in a vulnerable situation and can not fend for themselves. Then, here comes GAP MINISTRIES to the rescue, to bring provisions, to bring love, and to bring HOPE once again to these children!! In the words of Jesus, "let the children come unto me". Thanks to all the hard workers and volunteers that make life a whole lot better for many kids today!! Love & prayers, Sherry

I work at GAP Ministries, but my husband and I are also monthly donors, and we volunteer our time for worthy causes that GAP participates in. The leadership at GAP are humble and true servant leaders. You can find them one day meeting with legislators in the state capital fighting for the rights of foster children, and the next day in the warehouse taking out the garbage or cutting up vegetables in the commercial kitchen. My husband and I see the results of our investment in GAP in the lives of foster children, young adults trying to successfully step into adulthood without the support of their biological families, school children at low-income elementary schools, and so much more.
I would tell anyone that investing with GAP, either time or money, is good stewardship. They truly make an impact in this community!

I am impressed and amazed at all the services Gap Ministries provides to our community through care for children and families in need, provisions of food and supplies to people and other ministries in need and all the other things they do to help. It is a very well run organization and their Splash Houses are clean, well maintained and provide loving support to the children in their care.

Perhaps one of the most caring nonprofit staff's in all of Southern Arizona, GAP Ministries touches under-served youngsters whom we all care about.

Vistoso Cyclists, and it's Wheels for Kids Program, gifts bicycles to children in desperate need. Through GAP Ministries, Cyclists are now able to reach youngsters in the Child Protective System, Title 1 children and other less fortunate kids who have great needs.

Serving children right here in the Greater Oro Valley and Marana communities, Vistoso Cyclists gifts new and lightly used bikes (made near-perfect by our retired mechanics). We now have a local partner, GAP Ministries; Certainly a Blessing.

I've known founders Greg and Pam Ayers since the mid 1980's, well before GAP Ministries. To see how God prepared, equipped and uniquely gifted them to start this incredible safe haven ministry for abused and neglected children and how much they have expanded in scope of services and lives touched is truly overwhelming. I can't wait to hear updates of how Gap Ministries is serving the community and children and teens in need of positive love, wonderful role models, and opportunities to become everything they were created to be. Greg and Pam are heros in my life that I look up to as willing to leave behind everything they had to make a difference in the lives of thousands of kids. And they continue to inspire others to do the same.
