Mission: The mission of the Friends is to promote a better understanding and appreciation of the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge and the entire Everglades system. Members and volunteers of the Friends provide environmental education and public outreach.
Results: The Friends helped raise the funds to build and maintain the interactive exhibits in the Visitor Center, to create the signs on the Cypress Swamp Boardwalk, and to build the Lee Road fishing pier. The Friends help sponsor and organize the annual Everglades Day Family Festival in February. The Friends are currently raising funds for a self-guided tour that will allow visitors to learn more about the Refuge and the Everglades using their cell phones or smart phones.
