I don't think this charity is getting a fair shake from CharityNavigator's rating system. It downgrades them on the following: Independent Voting Board Members, CEO listed with salary, process for determing CEO compensation, board members listed, Audited Financials, FORM 990, etc. But these things are only partially true. For example, the CEO's salary is not listed because it's a volunteer position ($0). There are no board members because there are only 8 employees and they package the donated food and deliver it with the organizations three semi-trucks. Feeding America's Hungry Children's website includes its financials and independent audits. It's operation couldn't be simpler: they take unsold produce from grocery stores and distribute it to local food banks.

Literally tons of food is wasted each year while at the same time families are starving. This organization does the most sensible thing: collects food before it is wasted and provides it to those in need.

I received a request in the mail from Feeding America's Hungry Children asking for at least a small donation to send a pair of baby socks (that they sent to me) to "one American child."

There is an obvious absence of TAX ID/charity status information on the paperwork. On the back of the donation form it says:

"This outreach is a ministry of the Don Stewart Association Church...gifts [are] subject to the church's right to use the gift when, where and how it believes it can best use the gift to carry on it's ministry."

I found this suspicious, and read more than a few negative things about Don Stewart to discourage my donation.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

add IRS/Tax ID info. to make donors feel confident in donating.
