Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Children & Youth, Christianity, International, International Human Rights, International Relief, Religion, Youth Development

Mission: The lives of millions of African children have been devastated by war, disease, poverty and injustice. Every Child Ministries seeks to accomplish its purpose by providing direct compassionate aid to abandoned and needy children, working for the release and rehabilitation of child slaves, providing training and teaching materials to African churches, enabling them to establish and strengthen Sunday schools and other youth ministries, offering Bible teaching in the schools, and providing assistance to war-affected children. At the discretion of the local churches who know the needs of their community best, the Sunday schools may teach practical subjects like health, nutrition and literacy in addition to character building stories from the Bible. Our goal, as God enables us, is to help every village or neighborhood in Africa that desires to start or strengthen such a ministry.

Every Child Ministries was founded in 1985 after John and Lorella Rouster saw children forcibly expelled from churches because there was insufficient room to seat children and adults at the same time, and because the churches had no idea how to teach the children separately. Our programs have expanded to meet many needs of African children, who will be the future leaders of the continent. ECM is especially committed to children normally marginalized by society.

Results: In 2015, 347 children were supported by sponsors; a very large sea container full of supplies was shipped to Uganda; 76, 604 meals were provided to children; two new sponsorship projects were started in Uganda; a discipleship & training center was completed; 5 homes for grandmothers raising their orphaned grandchildren were completed; four classrooms and a toilet facility were completed; a shift toward sustainability projects took place with the first project, a poultry farm, being started; and over 3,000 volunteer hours were donated to the work of Every Child Ministries.

Target demographics: Orphans and vulnerable children and youth (birth to 20 years) in Africa, especially in Ghana, Benin, DR Congo, and Uganda. Some of our programs encompass families. We seek to help outcast children who are rejected, forgotten or neglected by society at large.

I have been serving on the board of Every Child Ministries (ECM) for about a year. It is without a doubt been one of the most rewarding organizations I have been associated with in my adult life. The work that the directors, staff, and missionaries do in an attempt to spread the gospel and bring hope to the people of Africa is amazing. Being a board member I hear first hand the work that these amazing individuals perform on a daily basis. This includes digging wells in Africa and performing fundraisers here in the United States. The work that is performed by the entire ECM team inspires me to want to do more for God and other individuals crying out for spiritual and material needs. I pray that donations, support, and the prayers continue so the work in Africa can continue. To God be the glory for the great work that is being done in Africa.

My family has been involved with ECM for 10 years now. It has truly been more of a blessing to us than we feel like we are a blessing to it! The work that Every Child Ministries does for the African people is so unbelievable. The lives that have been touched and made better by ECM are countless. The extremely unselfish and personal way that the organization is run matches none. In today's world, it is hard to come by such an organization! We will gladly continue our association with and support of Every Child Ministries for years to come!

Having volunteered at ECM since my first short-term missionary trip in 1995, I have repeatedly seen the Lord Jesus demonstrate His love for African children by using ECM to minister to their varied spiritual, physical, and emotions needs. The Lord also demonstrated His love for me by allowing me to participate in His great work of drawing people of all types from all over the world to Himself through ECM. ECM’s biblical focus, reliance on African staff, holistic ministry, prudent financial management, and commitment to the task, convince me that the Lord is pleased that I followed His directions to serve Him at ECM and I am now and will be eternally grateful for the opportunity.

ECM serves the broken and disenfranchised in Africa. Helping African children here and now with the focus on Eternity. I love to see the good that comes from all who work and support the ministry. However, I think it helps me the most, putting my life in perspective. Keep it up ECM!

I have served on the board at ECM for a number of years. John and Lorella are outstanding directors. They are very organized and very thrifty in everything they do. They give of their time and talents 24/7. They are always available. We sponsor a child at Haven of Hope and it has been a joy joy to watch her learn and grow. We write letters to each other and ECM sends us her report cards. I also volunteer one day a week and do a variety of things. There is a lot of volunteer work to be done. Won't you come and help us? ? ?
