Erowid is undoubtedly one of the longest running and most reliable sources of information about medications, pharmaceuticals and other mind altering substances. Untouched by corporate interests, it's served in its purpose honestly and faithfully since the dawn of the internet and deserves all the praise I can muster.
Erowid is one of the best places to get information regarding psychoactives. This information has helped me and many others. Most other resources do not offer the same in-depth information about psychoactives that Erowid does.
Without this i would have potentially overdosed many times.I believe instead of the war on drugs harm reduction is where we should be focusing. And i believe erowid is a good start on harm reduction.
Where can I start? As a young college student I became curious, as many do, with the subject of drugs. Although I personally do not believe in the criminalization of psychoactive drugs, unlike some drug advocates I will not say they are not dangerous. All drugs have the potential to be very harmful when used irresponsibly. However, Erowid is a shining example of the power of information. Simply put, the website provides users with a huge library of knowledge including both scientific research, personal experiences, dosage guidelines, and countless other information. Because of this, when I started to experiment with drugs during my youth, I was able to avoid several costly mistakes. Although I no longer use drugs the way I once did, I can attest this website saved me on multiple occasions and that without it I might have done something stupid enough I wouldn't have survived it.
If Erowid was a piece of toast, I would never ever eat it, the reason being is that I don't ever ever want it to go away. It would undoubtedly be the most delicious piece of toast in the world, yet still I would restrain myself. Plus ditto what everyone else said.
For years, this has been an excellent source of information for me. As I grew up, I was told lies by me parents, different lies by the schools, and different lies by the church. When I found Erowid, I began to learn the truth about a world of a chemicals and pharmaceuticals. I have never tried doing anything with risk without fully studying Erowid. Because of this, I always know the risks, my responsibilities, and what to expect going in to something. I have decided there are some things I will never try because of what Erowid taught me. They are perhaps the leading source of unadulterated harm reduction information available through any source. Erowid saves people's lives, about that there is no question. It may have saved mine.
Erowid has played a positive and informative role in my life and the lives of many friends my entire adult life. Without their honest and clear documentation, various myths and misconceptions about dose, composition, and effects would have persisted in an otherwise well-educated and appropriately skeptical community. Their information averted some mistaken plans which could have led to catastrophic consequences. It is not hyperbolic to assert that people personally known to me are alive, not imprisoned, and not institutionalized in part due to Erowid's efforts. These are people who have gone on to fulfilling, successful, and noble careers in a variety of professional fields. Erowid is pro-knowledge and pro-intelligence. We desperately need more such humanistic entities in a world wrecked by ignorance, fear, and pettiness.
Immensely useful information that focuses on harm reduction and real-world information. No scare tactics of "everything is bad" or naive "everything is good." Q&A responses are thoughtful and respectful, citations are plentiful, and they have fostered a great community of safety-minded individuals, with research and knowledge as a common core. Whenever I'm doing research on this subject, Erowid is always the first site I visit.
Erowid provides accurate and unbiased information regarding substances that alter perception. It helps me to decide for myself whether they are safe through analysis of research, law, news, and many other sources. If all recreational substance users read Erowid, there would be a marked drop in harm from all drugs.
