The Barbara Bush library recently celebrated their 40th year of serving the northwest Harris County community. Throughout those years the Friends have provided supplemental funds to enhance programming, the collection and provide for other needs. It is the busiest branch in the Harris Count Library System.
The Barbara Bush Library Friends has made it possible for the Spring community to enjoy numerous programs for adult, young adult and children. They are an asset for our community.
I am a forever library user, and The Friends group at The Barbara Bush Library makes my library even better! New to texas, i joined the Friends' Board as away to meet new folkls. Volunteersman the Friends' bookstore, we provide funds for new ebooks, offers stimulating programs and social events all ages, and actively supports the summer reading program for the young people in the community. The Board is active, involved, and always looking for new faces and new ideas.
This organization has been a part of my life since 1999. I have even involved my family in their activities. They provide things for the library the County cannot afford to supply. Libraries are an essential part of any community and this organization enhances their presence.
This branch of the Harris County Library System is a resource this community cannot possibly do without. I have been a borrower and a member of one of its book clubs for the last seven years and just recently, became of member of the Friends board. To say I spend a lot of time here at the Barbara Bush branch, is an understatement but I'm not alone in that. It is one of the most heavily used branches in the system as evidenced by the number of books that pass in and out of circulation. Their children's programs are many and varied, from infants to elementary students. The community outreach is significant, with a considerable number of volunteers who assist the small staff that has survived the cutbacks. I'm constantly amazed at the countless hours Nancy Agafitei, our branch librarian works to efficiently oversee this library and all of its programs. Thanks, Nancy and your staff, for all you do!
The first thing I did when I retired in 2006 was join the afternoon book club at the Barbara Bush branch and have read every book on our list and, except when I'm out of town, have attended the discussion every month. Nancy Agafitei, the branch librarian, is tireless in promoting the branch to the community and has made it one of the most active branches in the system. I also use the database for research in my work as a volunteer docent for the adjacent Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. My life without the Cypress Creek Barbara Bush branch library? Unthinkable.

Barbara Bush Library Friends offers encouragement and support to a great community resource. Volunteers give countless hours of service to get the good word out to library patrons of all ages. The organization provides funds and encoragement to participants in a myriad of activities that bring families and individuals together. They also work cooperatively with neighboring organizations to enrich our cultural opportunities.
When I moved to the area almost four years ago, one of the first things I planned to do was to look up theBarbara Bush Library. A single-parent friend of mine from church told me the library had been a wonderful resource place to spend time when visiting with his daughter. Finding it early on was a wonderful experience for me as well. I found a great community meeting place. I also found a source for so many books that I requested retrieved by a hard working staff of cheerful volunteers. Shortly after visiting, I became a volunteer in a variety of capacities.
Answering an open invitation, I attended a Friends of the Library board meeting, mostly out of curiosity. I found the group so friendly and passionate about providing hours and funds for the branch to carry out so many rewarding programs and community events for all ages and stages. I have served on the board for three years now and find it interesting to "go behind the scenes" to see what it takes to keep a thriving community library going in spite of county budget shortfalls and shrinking staff. I consider Barbara Bush Library Friends to be one of the lifelines of this busy community resource.

I have been on the Board of the CCFOL, now known at the Barbara Bush Library Friends for over 12 years. This group works hard to provide materials and services the county is unable to provide. They built a computer lab, supported the installation of a mural in the children's area, continue to provide funds to hire 2 - 4 extra part time staff in the summer, and buy books and other materials for the library just to name a few. They are professional in all aspects of what they do. I have stayed on the board for as long as I have because I believe in what they do.
