Each of us at times will sit in our comfortable chair in front of the TV and say, "oh I need to volunteer somewhere"!! Sounds wonderful but 90% of the time is does not happen. I was one of those individuals. I finally pushed my self out the door to go and meet with CRRC! I did that because they lost a valued volunteer and I heard such good things about her and what she was doing at CRRC that I wanted to try and fill that void. My first assignment was bagging groceries. Sounds easy ?? Well let me tell you that when I would go home, I was exhausted because the pantry is soooooo busy. I was never aware of the work the pantry did nor the number of clients served! It was very humbling and gratifying that they allowed me the opportunity to work with the staff, the volunteers and the clients. Now I am an active Board Member!! I would like to get on my soap box and state that a high percentage of Canyon Lake residents have no idea of the "gem" they have in their community. I continue to work with CRRC and promote its efforts anywhere and anytime that I can do so!! VOLUNTEER AT CRRC!! SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE, ENERGY AND HEART WITH THOSE IN NEED!!

A an attorney with clients in Canyon Lake, I have had the opportunity to see firsthand how the volunteers of this organization take care of the lake community. My husband and I have installed an air conditioner for a woman who was home from the hospital in 100 degree weather who had no way to stay cool. I have witnessed those in need come into the CRRC "grocery store" to obtain food when they had none at home. And I have watched Maureen "scramble" when she had a shortages of Meals on Wheels drivers or people to work in the Thrift Store. Canyon Lake could not survive without CRRC.

As President of the CRRC Board of Directors for three years (yes, three) I've had an opportunity to get to really know the Executive Director and his wonderful staff. The local community could not ask for a more dedicated staff and volunteers, ensuring that all clients are treated with utmost respect and dignity. The CRRC's mission areas are diverse. Probably best known is our food pantry; however, CRRC also provides other community needs: crisis programs, loan of durable medical equipment, a thrift store, recreation center offering exercise and youth programs, a senior center, and senior garden that provides fresh produce to the food pantry. I'm proud to be associated with this wonderful, caring organization.

CRRC is an organization that is of vital importance to our local community, providing food & financial assistance, senior programs, meals on wheels, recreational opportunities, thrift store and just so much more. It is impressive to see how much the dedicated staff can do with so little. Community support is evidenced by the number of volunteers that are involved, as well as the donations that are received. Clients are served with dignity and are tutored in the ways to succeed and overcome their current situation. I am very proud to be associated with this amazing organization.

Working in the Food Pantry, I see first hand the extent to which this organization impacts our local community. While it is there to provide immediate help to those who need it most, it does not act as an enabler to people who might "use" the system. Both employees and volunteers treat the clients with respect and compassion, always looking for ways to better help people in the way they need it most. It is an amazing organization run by some amazing people.

With the current economy, Canyon Lake residents are provided with financial help, food, and financial counseling to help them get on their feet in difficult times. The Thrift Store helps families buy clothing, etc that they would otherwise not be able to afford. This could mean the difference for children to attend school or not. A lot of our senior citizens find themselves raising grandchildren and need this financial assistance and help with groceries b

CRRC provides assistance to the Canyon Lake area citizens by meeting their every basic needs- food, clothing and crisis financial assistance. Then it does not stop there. CRRC goes on to provide affordable recreation and events that the whole family can enjoy. I have never seen a non-profit do so much based on the loving donations of others. No political agenda to work through and although Christ is at the center of everything CRRC does, He is presence is never directly spoken of unless asked, but His presence is shown everyday through kind actions, sweet words and loving smiles. This is where I choose to do my 'kingdom work'. Lives are changed, families are made whole and children learn lessons of life through noncompetitive sports programs. My arms are not near big enough to hug CRRC and its continued accomplishments.

I am on the Advisory Board for the CRRC of Canyon Lake, INC. The CRRC consists of a Food Pantry, a Thrift Store, a Recreation Center, and a Senior Center. This organization serves the entire community in so many ways. The clean, well run thrift store provides affordable clothing for our population (and others). The Recreation Center is the hub of the community! It's located in the Hidden Valley Sports Complex. Many social activities are scheduled there by the various clubs, organizations, and churches around the lake. County -wide civic meetings are booked there frequently. There is ample parking, and the facilities are centrally located. The Seniors have their own 'Gathering Place' which sponsors group events, regularly scheduled activities, and special celebrations. The Bridge Group meets there, and enjoys 'showing off' their cooking skills in addition to their Card skills. The Rec. Ctr. allows mingling with like-minded folks and bonding with age appropriate friends. The Athletic offerings serve folks from 3 to 93 or more: Volley Ball, Basket Ball, and also Pickle Ball which is a growing sport, and is gaining fans and participants. The North Pole Village is an annual event, and draws people from as far away as Houston. It's a magical experience for kids and parents/grandparents alike. I have nothing bad to say about this organization. They feed, nurture, entertain and exercise the population around the lake in grand style. We have just added a Pavilion for all types of groups and family functions, and all are looking forward to it's use. Would there could be a place like this in every community!
Our beloved CRRC is Well run, Well used, and Well loved!

I became involved with the CRRC shortly after my husband passed away; it helped me deal with the sadness and the drastic change in my life. Among the varied services offered to our residents, the CRRC also provides a place for meaningful volunteering. Our retirees can continue to feel genuinely needed after their working years draw to a close. Many find themselves with time on their hands, as I did, and the CRRC staff can find a worthy spot for anyone who chooses to volunteer their time (or treasure.)
The four sites of the CRRC welcome Canyon Lake residents and visitors alike. 1) The main office and Crisis Center provide social services, a food pantry and other resources. 2) The Thrift Store is well organized, and offers affordable clothing, electronics, and household goods to all. The bookstore is a favorite stop for many folks.
3) The Recreation Center offers sports and games for young and old alike. and a site for dancing and social gatherings. 4) The Event Center is adjacent to the Rec. Center, and is another site with plenty of parking for meetings, private celebrations, bridge groups, church meetings, etc.
The organization provides for both the physical and emotional needs of our residents.

The CRRC Food Pantry and Thrift Shop are vitally important to the poor in Canyon Lake. Without these two organizations many people, and especially children, would be in terrible straits. Additionally, the activities at the Recreation Center and Senior Center bring the community together.

I'm biased since I'm on the CRRC Advisory Board, but this non-profit serves all members of the Canyon Lake community with their sports programs, senior center, food pantry, thrift store, and crisis program. My favorite program is North Pole Village held during the holidays. The Rec Center is turned into a winter wonderland designed for kids and adults alike. I've painted little faces there for the last several years and the the look of joy on a child's face seeing a snowman on their tiny cheek is priceless. North Pole Village provides precious family memories for everyone who attends and you can't put a pricetag on that.

I have been a member of the board of CRRC for over a year and have volunteered at the Food Pantry many times for special food distributions. I have had clients come up and hug my neck after loading the food in their run down car. One lady with five kids in the car almost did not have room for the food. The kids had to set on top of the food. The woman really looked in desparation. When we got the food loaded she came to me crying saying she did not know how she could feed her kids until she got the call to come to CRRC They were hungry she said as she hugged my neck and made me cry too. This is what CRRC is all about. Our staff are all very professional and always looking out for the needs of the community. I am proud to be a part of CRRC of Canyon Lake, Texas.

I never realized the wide scope of services provided by CRRC until I attended an orientation meeting for prospective board members. I was amazed at the efficiency of this organization. The Thrift Store provides serviceable items at low cost to members of our community, but the proceeds from Thrift Store sales are used to support the crisis program and recreational programs. The staff maximizes the synergies between the various activities to assure that every penny is well spent.

Canyon Lake is a small community in the beautiful Hill Country region of Texas. As with the rest of the country, we grapple with unemployment and a portion of the population that struggles with even the basics of living. That is where CRRC, Community Resource and Recreation Center comes in. They help with a food bank, job center, utilities assistance, and medical equipment supplies. They operate a Thrift Store with clothing, household goods, and numerous equipment sold at a minimum cost.
They also have a recreation center with exercise classes, basketball, volleyball, and other sporting classes for the community.
CRRC is the glue that holds this small community together. Our organization makes every dollar count.

I serve on the Board of this volunteer organization and I do so because of all the various good works CRRC does for our community. While there is a paid staff to maintain a sense of direction and stability, the vast majority of the efforts are carried out by unpaid volunteers from the community. We are a United Way Agency and receive funds from several different philantropic organizations, but that is not enough to fund the entire effort.....Personal and business donations are extremely important to allow us to conduct programs such as meals on wheels, financial aid assistance, food pantry, senior programs, youth programs, thift store, and certain educational programs aimed at the poor and needy in our community. Once a year just before Christmas, we set-up and build a North Pole Village at our Recreation Center for our younger children to come and enjoy and to visit with "Santa". It is truly a wonderous event, staffed and presnted almost entirely with volunteers for six great nights. A small fee is charged to help defray some costs, but we strive to ensure that all levels of our community can attend. Truly a wonderful deserving organization.
