Although I live in Australia, I’ve known and regularly chat online with Critter Camp’s founder and manageress, Beth Randall, since 2009. Over the years, I have developed a profound admiration and respect for Critter Camp's ethics and activities. So much so, that I sponsor one of their animals even though I usually pay an extra premium due to the exchange rate. Critter Camp takes in and cares for species that no-one else seems to have the time, space or knowledge to care for - the exotics. I've always had a soft spot for defenders of the "under dog" or, in this case, the under chinchilla, ferret, fox, guinea pig, gerbil, mink, parrot, tortoise, rabbit... well, you get the idea. The fact that many of the animals Critter Camp takes in are also geriatric and/or have health and behavior issues due to previous neglect, abuse or multiple rehomings, makes me even prouder of their efforts to provide these animals with a comfortable home for life. Each animal receives the highest standard of care based on their individual needs. Beth researches each species and does her very best to provide a diet, housing, companionship and enrichment which will optimize each animal’s health and wellbeing. Considering how many different species Critter Camp cares for, this is a considerable knowledge base which Beth is also happy to share with the public through school talks and online forums. Can’t praise this genuine “sanctuary” and the humans who run it highly enough.... Sabina W.
Critter Camp is by far the best and only Exotic Pet Sanctuary. They have done so much for our little critter friends and continue to do so on a daily basis.
Awesome rescue and sanctuary! They go beyond the call to assist any fur butt! I asked them to help a beautiful farm mink, and they arranged for transport. They genuinely care about animals! Awesome team, awesome human beings!
As an owner of a number of small exotics, I know how difficult they are to care for properly, which is why so many end up in rescue. Critter Camp is the only US sanctuary specializing in these animals - including species like foxes that, except in rare circumstances, shouldn't be pets at all. Beth does an amazing job taking care of all the animals that come through her doors, and that's why I give a scheduled monthly donation to help her in her work.
Critter Camp is unique in its role to provide sanctuary to those small animals who have been abandoned due to age, illness, or just because they are exotic. Beth and her family are selfless in their care and love for these animals. I have the utmost respect!
Beth has done an amazing job providing a happy, healthy shelter for exotics that would otherwise be abandoned or euthanized. Her love and support are endless. I visited and was truly impressed by the range of animals she is able to give sanctuary, so that they can live out their normal life span in a safe environment. She and her daughter came to the library where I work to talk about all the things you need to take into consideration when choosing (or NOT choosing) an exotic animal as a pet. They brought a range of critters along that the kids and parents could touch - a fabulous experience. Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary is a fantastic resource for Northern IL!
I can't say enough good things about Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary. Birds, sugar gliders, turtles, ferrets, hedge hogs, bearded dragons, foxes, rats, bunnies .. That's not the half of it. Critter Camp rescues and gives hope and a home to the hardest to place animals. I don't know how Beth Randall does it. Nothing gets in the way of her loving caring for the creatures lucky enough to find their way to Critter Camp.
My family has been supporting Critter Camp with donations, money or bunny food, for years now. The organization provides invaluable service both to the "exotic" animals it shelters and as an educational resource for people unaware of the needs of non-dog and non-cat animals. The photos show some of our favorites: the tortoise, bearded dragon, and fennec fox.
A lovely rescue/shelter run by lovely and loving people. I thin I learned about them by accident through one of their educational videos on exotic pets (hedgehogs in this case). I was charmed by their other videos and, then, their mission. I support them because they care for rodents, rabbits, foxes, and other animals that local (and just as awesome cat and dog) shelters can't. I support their mission to care for pets that humans created and should continue to care for. And Critter Campbell believe even dying is precious and part of an animal's journey. My money and my good wishes are well invested at Critter Camp.
Thank you for helping all the animals. You are doing a great job.
Such a wonderful organization and an amazing cause !
