This is a true testimony of the journey to save my house. I was unemployed for 4 years after being laid off in 2011 from a company where I gave 11 years of service, due to cut backs and the economy. During that time I STRUGGLED to pay my mortgage and fell short in the last 20 months. When I was 12 months past due I asked the bank if they would combine the past due amounts and add it to the mortgage which would grant me an opportunity to start over. The bank refused. Then I boldly asked the bank if they would willing to take $10,000.00 and allow me to start paying the mortgage again. It was a bold move because I did not physically have the money yet. The bankstill refused and filed a foreclosure on my house.
I realized that the bank had no intention to work with me and that this is a problem that a lot of homeowners face. You pay a “30 year mortgage” for over 20 years and as you get close to the finish line they want to rob you of your hard work, then capitalize on it with someone else. Lord, the devil has a plan, but My God has a planet and within that planet there are some GREAT PEOPLE and resources such as Florida Hardest Hit Fund (FHHF) that helped people like me and my friend Clinton (Junior), who God sent to provide me with the information.
It was a long and, at times, tedious journey. It seemed I would be asked for 5 papers and once those were sent I was asked for 10 more. The same process took place but the amount of papers requested seemed to increase. BUT it was all worth it!
In my first attempt seeking help with FHHF, I was told I was not qualified. I was honest in all aspects, so it befuddled me. Yet, I tried again and my persistence paid off in the end. I was working with a FHHF representative by the name of Jacob and if there is an award for the best customer service, Jacob should be the recipient 10 times over. Jacob has the patience, professionalism, tolerance and empathy of a saint. When I was initially not qualified, he took the time to explain everything in detail, even though I was not a client and there was no benefit to help me. He was just as gracious in my moment of triumph as he was in the face of my defeat.
I wrote this message for a few reasons. First, I want to thank the family at Florida Hardest Hit Funds, especially Jacob who had worked on my case so diligently. Secondly, for those of you who are struggling give them a call. You may even get Jacob but, regardless, I can assure you that FHHF will fight for you! Lastly, do not let the banks take away what you have worked so hard for, there are resources out there to help you, reach out to them.

I was referred to DebtHelper.com by Legal Aid of Broward County. Their website was easy to use, and after completing the online course, I took a break before caling them for the interview part. The staff were diligent in contacting me to make sure I did the necessary phone interview as well, to complete the process. My phone interview was informative and professional. I spoke with Traci, who was really nice. She was knowledgeable, thorough, and friendly. She answered all of my questions patiently, and made the experience expedient and pleasant. This was actually the second time I've completed the course, and I got consistently good customer service from all of the staff I spoke with.
My interview with Bill was very informative and Bill made it very easy to understand. He took his time and made sure I understood all aspects of the mortgage. Also he was very personable and easy to work with. I was very impressed with his performance.
The information I received was about a reverse mortgage. All was explained thoroughly and easy to understand. Bill Messerschmidt was very personable and friendly. I would highly recommend Credit Management.

I consider myself a client of CCMS, because as a loan originator solely for reverse mortgages every one of my clients undergoes a HUD mandated session with an objective third party. Clients who have used CCMS for that counseling session unanimously report a cordial, informative session that answers all their questions and gives them confidence that they had the whole story. I retired early due to a disability and was not able to make my Mortgage Payments., I applied for assistance with my Mortgage holder 2 Months before I was unable to pay. it has been 7 months and they still have not responded to my needs.
