In 2005 when I was 1st injured my family and I struggled with bills and food and not knowing where we were going to stay after a honorable discharge but 0% from the Army. My wife and I continued to work various jobs to make ends meet. In 2008 we where fortunate enough to receive help from the Coalition to Salute Americas Heroes in which they payed our late payments on rent and utility bills that helped get us through the cold winters in Colorado. They also invited our family to attend a Road to Recovery conference which helped provide workshops and seminars to help get us back on track with sustainability for our future. Myself and my wife where both asked to be a part of a program within the Coalition to Salute Americas Heroes organization in the capacity of a call representative where we made thank you calls to our generous donor's that helped with our financial dilemma in 2005. If it was not for the Coalition to Salute Americas Heroes I don't know where we would be today. They have helped us sustain work and residency and we are very grateful that they continue to do this for many more veterans and their families. I also want to add how disheartening it is to see how some Veterans or spouses have tried to blemish this great organization after being helped themselves by them. I only pray that they will come to realize when they struggled this organization was there for them.
An envelope arrived in our office the other day. It had the bulky, tawdry look of junk mail: pink and lavender Easter eggs, a plastic address window and a photo of a young man in fatigue shorts using crutches to stand on his only leg. “Thousands of severely wounded troops are suffering,” it read. “Will you help them this Easter?”
It was a plea for money from the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes, one of the worst private charities — but hardly the only — that have been shamefully milking easy cash from the suffering and heartache caused by the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
I'm no longer donating to this Organization, Be careful with this Organization.
Thank you for the comment and also thank you for donating as you noted at the bottom of your post. We were really thrown by your message. Given it's August, you receiving an Easter package from us was odd. In addition the package you got was from 2008. So really late too. In any case we are sorry that you feel the way you do. We work very hard to supply emergency aid to veterans every day. We have saved so many from being evicted, having their electric shut off, cars repossessed and so on. And our performance and ratios continue to improve. The funding we get thanks to people like you (when you gave) is truly put to good use. That said we surely don't want you getting mail (especially that late) any longer- we have an opt out program, please contact our offices and let us know and we'll get you removed from our mailing list. Thank you.
Be careful with this organization. Last year they raised over $15MM but spent only $2MM of that on direct grants to veterans. Their CEO makes over $200K, and they spend over $1MM on fundraising consultants, $2MM on printing and $3MM on premiums (whatever that is). Like many veteran's organizations, unfortunately, this organization seems more interested in lining the pockets of its consultants than helping the target audience.

This is a very solid group. I struggle with people who continue to dreg up the past without looking at the great things this group does EVERY DAY.
Look at their Facebook page or talk to the countless families they help. I am a believer and a supporter!
Coalition to Salute Americas Heroes made an unauthorized charge of $60 to my credit card.
When I called the organization they said they would investigate this charge and get back to me and they never did! Finally, the credit card company said they would refund the money, but now I need to wait the one to two month investigation period.
As a vet with concerns for scams I checked the IRS990 for this organization. President got 362,000 1n 2011. Income over 16 million, a small fraction of which goes to vets, while 6 million was spent on mailings out of 8 million for all "program expenses"...where does the rest go?
After reading so many negative comments, where there is smoke, there reakky is fire! The computer world is doing us in. I must receive a mailing froom CSAH twice a month. It's on automatic mailing! If they send a nickel or a dollar to everyone they mail to, they are p..sing away a ton on $. With Mr. Chapin in trouble, I feel we are being bulldozed and this organization should be wiped out and not be allowed to draw on the innocent elderly who are in the firing line of solicitations. I firmly believe it falls into the SCAM category. Shame on them!!!! Get them out of business!
I recently learned that this organization is on of the many that use the funds to line the pockets of the president. They've appeared before congress. They use the donations to solicit additional funds by sending pricey packages with money enclosed. I will never donate to this organization again. I had my own suspicions but after a google search I was appalled at all the reviews. Not to mention thir failure to comply with the BBB.
I have tried repeatedly (mailing back 14 requests so far) to have my mothers name removed from this organizations solicitation list. So far each request has been ignored and we keep getting expensive packets (color photos, cash, self-addressed stamped envelopes). These materials obviously cost a fortune to send, but even after repeated prompting "no one is home" at this apparently less-than-efficient charity "front." We feel it is unethical to continue to send materials after being repeatedly asked to be removed from the list. It is my feeling that the Coalition should spend more money on our servicemen and less on mailing me information that goes directly into the trash. I would not recommend this fly-by-night organization to anyone.

Mr. Chapin, ex-President of this "charity", is under indictment in the Help Hospitalized Veterans case & if convicted belongs in jail. General Singlaub, who is paid to allow his name to be used as front-man for this "charity", deserves to be publicly outed to the military families used as bait to enrich the founders of this despicable get-rich-quick scheme.

Disgusting. After reviewing the latest tax return available on Guidestar, I'd like my money back. It's not a lot of money to some folks, but my $135 was intended to help vets - not be wasted. It looks like less than 10 cents on the dollar goes to help vets. These people should be in jail.
