I have been a supporter of Ceres for seven years, or in other words, since I have had kids and begun to grow increasingly concerned about the future of our planet--for their sakes, if not my own. Ceres has given me a hopeful and inspiring outlet for addressing my concerns by investing in their success. I have been so impressed by Ceres' mission and vision, as well as the organization's professional and on point communications. Their goal of building coalitions is inspiring, and their advocacy for climate sustainability as an economic and equity issue, along with an environmental issue, is totally compelling.
I became acquainted with Ceres nearly 20 years ago, when I got a job at a sustainable investing firm. Ceres' work then was carried out by a handful of staff, but it was enormously far-sighted. Focusing on the investment risks and rewards of sustainability variables like climate change, pollution and human rights, the organization built a platform that some of the largest asset owners and large asset managers now stand on, along with the smaller SRI asset managers. That big platform has an enormous megaphone now, such that when investors file shareholder proposals at major oil companies asking them to reexamine business plans in light of the need to keep warming below 2C, those shareholder resolutions are passed by a majority of shareholders, for the first time ever. When Ceres first proposed to mobilize investor voices and votes for sustainability, I was certain their ambition exceeded their reach. I couldn't have been more wrong. Now, they are expanding their reach to include deforestation, water, human rights, diversity, and many other efforts, and all of these are, not coincidentally, moving into mainstream investing. Without Ceres, it's hard to imagine that this would be happening.
I serve on a number of national boards and support a wide variety of non profits. Ceres is the organization that I think is having the biggest impact bar none. They are changing the way major businesses and investors work and that changes the way our economy functions. I am very proud to actively participate on their tremendous board and assist their incredibly talented and strategic team in accomplishing these hug and crucial goals of a sustainable economy.
Our Board is a huge part of our impact. Thank you for your service!
Ceres punches above its weight.. Its proven ability to change multi national companies and large investors/investment firms to integrate sustainability into all that they do, is quite impressive.
Thank you. Our stellar Board is a big part of our success.
I am actively involved in many top national environmental organizations, but feel Ceres is moving the needle like no other when it comes to changing the game around economic messages and sustainability. They work with and push the most powerful forces (major corporations, huge SRI investment companies, the insurance industry and other mainstream business thought leaders to recognize the risks and rewards of climate disruption and other key ESG issues. Ceres is the proverbial "Do Tank", that not only thinks up powerful, strategic ideas that can make crucial change happen, but they then finds ways to partner with the key players and make those great ideas come to fruition. They are a world class convener and a trusted leader. I support them at my highest level of giving and I feel extremely good about the significant dollars I "invest"in them.
