Central Scholarship made college possible for me and countless other students. I have received a grant every year of my undergraduate career thanks to the amazing generosity of this program. I cannot overstate the positive impact Central Scholarship has had on my life. Not only did that first acceptance letter I received in 2012 allow me to attend Maryland's flagship university, it also gave me the confidence to apply to many more scholarships and grants. I have received the Gilman Scholarship and PPIA Princeton JSI as well as several grants from UMD. I never would have had the strength to try had it not been for Central Scholarship; I never would have gone to Chengdu, China or Princeton University and experienced great personal growth. Thank you, Central Scholarship, for kickstarting my life. The picture is from a silly moment with my mom after Central Scholarship's 2015 Annual Student Awards Ceremony in my hometown, Baltimore.
Central Scholarship does a tremendous job at helping students reach their higher education goals in Maryland. They also provide scholarship to people seeking vocational and career training certification - a mission element that I never thought of. They are truly working to help all people in Maryland reach their highest potential!
Central Scholarship provides funds for deserving college and graduate students, and they do so with compassion, enthusiasm and professionalism. Central Scholarship staff have repeatedly demonstrated their willingness to "go the extra mile," whether colloborating with peers in the field or reaching out to their student applicants and recipients. I consider this organization to be extremely reliable, and also, a pleasure to work with!
I don't know what I and my students would do if Central Scholarship did not exist! I rely on CSB to educate my first generation college-going students as far as becoming "informed consumers" about financial aid and scholarships. As the college counselor at a non-profit, I also have all my students apply to CSB for scholarships and no-interest loans; oftentimes those awards are the difference between my students being able to college or not. Even in instances where my students do not receive a scholarship or loan, they learn through the interview process with CSB that they must keep their grades up in college in order to be considered for future scholarships. We are truly blessed to have CSB in the state of Maryland, and I am thankful for both the existence of the organization and the people who work there who are always helpful, encouraging, and positive.
