I became invovled last year with Casa Myrna as a Board member and it has been one of the most eye-opening and rewarding experiences for me. I have become acutely aware of the great need for shelter and support services for victims of domestic violence and of the lack of funding and awareness for these needs. Casa Myrna does an excellent job of providing an entire spectrum of services from its Safelink hotline, to acute and transitional living shelters, access to legal services and life skills. The dedication of the staff is incrediable and I admire them everyday for thier dedication. Hopefully, a day will come when services like those provided by Casa Myrna are not longer needed but until then the Boston area is incrediably lucky to have Casa Myrna.
My wife and I have been supporting Casa Myrna for 10 years and I have recently joined the Board. As husband, father of daughters, son, and brother to sisters, I am surrounded by strong women who are living healthy, productive lives. The major differences I see between the women in my life and the women whom Casa Myrna seeks to serve is a safe/respectful home, access to education, and a sense of optimism for the future. I am proud of the dedicated team at Casa Myrna who work to make this type of life possible for victims of domestic violence.
I became aware of Casa Myrna years ago when I was engaging in community organizing and advocacy work. I often heard wonderful things about the work Casa Myrna does with survivors of domestic violence, and so, as I was preparing to graduate from college and looking for full time work, Casa Myrna was an organization I was interested in becoming a part of. Although I took a different path, and as I continued to work around women's issues, Casa Myrna stayed on my radar. Currently, as an advocate at a non-profit, I see firsthand the value of the services Casa Myrna provides. I often refer my clients to Casa Myrna for their DV services and the SafeLink hotline. I am confident that my clients are in good hands when they are working with Casa Myrna advocates. Given Casa Myrna's exceptional reputation, and the phenomenal experiences I've had working with the organization, I was incredibly enthusiastic to join the Board, and am thrilled to work alongside the organization presently.
As the son of a detective in the sexual assault unit, I deeply appreciate the services that Casa Myrna provides to victims of domestic and dating violence. Although domestic violence can affect anyone in a relationship, regardless of gender, the reality is that the overwhelming majority of victims are women, and the overwhelming majority of perpetrators are men. Thus, we need to stop thinking about domestic and dating violence as “just” a woman’s issue, as though that lets all of us off the hook. Casa Myrna is a comprehensive solution resource that has empowered women for over 35 years. I am honored to serve on Casa Myrna's board of directors.
Prior to joining the Board last year I had a long experience with referring my patients to CMV- I always felt confident they would get the services they needed. Now as a member of the board I have the profound opportunity to witness first hand the mindful and strategic planning that makes this organization so unique. I am proud to serve on the Board of CMV and look forward to all the important things we will do together.
Casa Myrna is an amazing organization, and I am proud to be a Board Member. Casa Myrna provides a comprehensive range of services to women and children who have suffered domestic or dating violence. Not only does it provide direct services, often in a woman's greatest hour of need, it also focuses on those who have yet to seek services, educating our communities on what domestic violence looks like and what to do to prevent or stop it. While I wish domestic violence were nonexistent, I am glad that Casa Myrna is here to serve those who have to face it.
Casa Myrna is a wonderful organization that provides critical services to victims of domestic violence throughout Massachusetts, including its 24 hour statewide SafeLink hotline. Its staff is dedicated and energetic in working to end domestic violence. Casa Myrna is led by a dynamic team of caring professionals and deserves the support of everyone in our community.
I have been a Board member at Casa Myrna for over three years and have known about the organization much longer. It is an incredible organization which helps women and child who have been affected by domestic violence. They have a 24 hour hotline, shelter services, legal services, counseling services, advocate services, education and prevention services as well as a media campaign which helps bring the issue of domestic violence out into the public. I am pediatrician and know how pervasive domestic violence is.
I have been a member of the Board of Directors of Casa Myrna for one year, and I am continually amazed at the life-transforming work that the group does. From the SafeLink 24 hour domestic violence hotline, to emergency shelters for women and families leaving situations of terrible abuse and violence, to ongoing educational and preventative efforts, this organization is doing incredibly vital work in the City of Boston. As an attorney who has had the privilege of representing survivors of domestic violence in obtaining restraining orders, I can attest to the strength and power that Casa Myrna provides to people who need assistance when leaving a terribly difficult, traumatizing situation. Casa Myrna fills that role. It is a true honor to play a very small part in the great work that they do for this community.
