This organization does so much with so little. Their administration takes only 6 cents for every dollar donated. They actively support the veterans across the country and troops overseas. Part of the national funds go to support a traveling song & dance group called Re-Creation, who travel to different parts of the country entertaining our veterans in nursing homes.
BVL (Bowlers to Veterans Link) is a very well run organization that supports our veterans and troops at home and abroad. There is a small group of very dedicated people to support the national organizaton. They provide money for medical or recreation equipment to state run veterans nursing homes. An entertainment group called "Re-Creation" tours the country to entertain the veterans in nursing homes. Bowling lane kits are sent to the troops overseas to provide a distraction and fun. The few people manning this organization work very hard to provide a lot of services, and we applaud them.
BVL, What an amazing group of people. From the administrators, to the National USBC Board of Directors, to the local USBC association leaders, to the league bowlers in each association. They work so hard to ensure our Veterans are cared for, and they know we care. This group goes back to 1942, and is as strong now as it was back then. It has been my personal pleasure to have worked with the BVL group and to visit our Veterans in the hospitals, nursing homes, and hospices. The Veterans are so appreciative of what BVL does words cannot explain it. The dedication is beyond anything anyone could expect.
Thank you BVL, Mary Harrar & Elizabeth for your hard work. You are amazing!!
Marine for life & Disabled Vietnam Veteran
BVL Charity was initiated in 1942 by the Women's Bowling Association to assist our veterans during WWII. I have been involved with this charity for several years mainly because over 90 % of money donated goes to assisting veterans. The other veterans charities do not come close to that %. When I deliver the checks to the veterans each year their smiles and appreciation tell me BVL is doing the correct thing for veterans.
Thank you BVL from this Vietnam Veteran for helping my brothers & sisters who need all the assistance we can provide.
No group is more deserving of our support that the Veterans of the United States Armed Forces. In a time when movie stars and sports figures are put high on pedestals, I am proud to be part of an organization that honors the true heroes, our Veterans. I know of no other organization with such a low overhead. The fact that 94% of money collected goes to our Veterans is amazing. Every year, for 75 years, bowlers have shown that they are generous in their support of the Veterans. Thank you BVL.
BVL is an outstanding charity. I am very impressed with what they do and will continue to trumpet the merits of this organization every chance I get.
BVL is the proved to me to be the best charity for our Veterans. They have very low overhead which means more money for our Veterans. When we raise money for the BVL, we request funds to come back to Iowa to help our home town veterans with their recreational needs. We are able to see where that money is used, as we personally deliver the checks from BVL to the VA centers. Without BVL, our Veterans all over the nation and abroad would not have the recreational needs met.
As a bowler, donor and volunteer, I have seen BVL at work at the National TEE Tournament at Riverside Iowa. Board members from our state women's bowling association volunteer to help at the bowling venue. This year over 50 visually impaired veterans enjoyed bowling in Coralville Iowa. Every year we have made new friends but also meet up with friends we have made the past years. Because of BVL, these veterans are enjoying the sport we all love. What an honor it was for all of us helping these veterans. BVL has also helped our three VA facilities in Iowa. We have personally delivered the donations from BVL to these sites. What a feeling to see what and how these men and women will be helped with the proceeds from BVL.
Make this one of your charities.
BVL means the sport of Bowling supports our veterans. Even more so the low expense fee makes it a very attractive nonprofit to financially support, because we know the vast majority of the money goes to our very deserving veterans.
Further Re-Creation is a fantastic musical troupe which the veterans really appreciate. The performers are volunteers who donate their lives for a year or two to perform across the United States at VA Medical Centers and State Homes. You couldn't find a more dedicated group of young people.
BVL knows how to reach out to local and state USBC Associations to garner their help. By presenting awards to standout association achievers the associations appreciate the recognition while supporting our veterans.
While I have been a big supporter of BVL for many years, I recently became involved with the leadership of this wonderful organization. I wanted to volunteer my time because I believe in our mission and know how important our programs are for veterans and active duty troops. What we provide is unique and of great value....giving those who sacrificed for us the opportunity to enjoy the simple pleasures of life that sports and the arts can bring. We know what we are doing is making a difference in the lives of thousands of veterans; but we need to do more. We need to grow our efforts to meet the needs of our American Heroes. Join with us,
I have had the privilege of serving our country during the Vietnam War and I have the highest respect for my fellow veterans and active duty men and women - their sacrifices are unparalleled...
It has been my honor to serve as the spokesperson for BVL over the past decade. As a pro bowler touring the country, I have seen BVL dollars at work in VA Hospitals and State Homes, brightening the days and boosting the spirit of my fellow veterans. I know the positive energy that sport can bring and I see that energy brought to veterans of all ages and abilities through the many different BVL programs and activities.
Knowing how important the sports, arts and other theraputic BVL programs are I would encourage anyone who wants to make a difference in the lives of our veterans to support BVL.
BVL is a long-standing national charity for the bowling industry, one that bowlers nationwide, as well as internationally are proud to support. It is heart-warming to see the pride of local and state bowling association leaders as they raise funds to support all of the programs that BVL has to offer.
I am first and foremost a VietNam veteran Marine who never got involved in any charity work until 3 years ago. I met Elizabeth at BVL's booth at the USBC convention. After talking with her I volunteered to chair our BVL committee for the Metro Phoenix bowling association. Meeting with our bowlers let me see how dedicated they are to helping our veterans. Over the last 3 years our association has raised almost $30,000. The BVL's Recreation entertainment group puts smiles on the faces of our bedridden veterans. This year I was fortunate enough to actually hand our donation checks to the 3 area Veterans facilities administrators, and to visit the veterans in their facilities. BVL has been actively working for our veterans since 1942, and we will continue to do our best to ensure our veterans, my brethren, will continue to be cared for.
Thank you to the BVL and USBC.
I will give to BVL in time and money every year. There is nothing more satisfying than giving an amount to a cause and knowing that 100% of it actually gets to those you intended it for. I have actually given the checks to our State Vet Hospitals, spent some time with the vets, and experienced the joy they feel being remembered, supported and honored. People I seek BVL donations from will give freely as they are assured 100% of the donation goes directly to the vets.
BVL is the best organization for helping our veterans with those little things that make major difference in their daily outlook. By providing things like tv,books, and arts and craft items minds are working and with exercise and mobility equipment their bodies are also worked. The group RECREATION provides entertainment as well as encouragement. All of this is part of what our donations provide.
Everyone time and monetary resources are limited now days and I wholeheartedly support BVL with all I have .
We can Never give enough for our veterans who have given so much for US but BVL is helping to BRIGHTEN VETERANS LIVES!!!!!!
The Bowlers to Veterans Link or BVL is a wonderful organization that assists both active & veteran service men & women. I am amazed on a daily basis how much work goes into this organization with such a small administrative staff that do an awesome job. Also playing a HUGE roll are the many very dedicated volunteers across the United States. I have been one of these volunteers and have been able to see firsthand how these donations can better a veteran’s life. With the monies generated by the BVL veterans are given the opportunity to participate in many different activities and events such as the Winter Sports Clinic held in Snowmass CO that I have been honored to attend for the past 5 years and the Wheelchair Games. Some activities/events they may have never attempted some they have done in the past or some that they thought they would never be able to do again. In turn they are able to take the lessons and skills learned at the various activities/events or clinics they attend and apply them at home. They are shown that just because you may be suffering from an illness or injury there is no reason to give up or give in. In many instances it is considered one of the biggest motivators to get them out and lead an active lifestyle.
• BVL is the sport of bowling's oldest charity
• BVL is America's only national sports organization specifically devoted to veterans
• The BVL is a long time sponsor of the four national veteran’s recreational events - the Winter Sports Clinic, the Golden Age Games, the Wheelchair Games and the Creative Arts Festival
• BVL grants provide arts and crafts programs, music and sports activities, reading materials, board games and much more to help boost their spirits, speed recuperation, and improve morale
Please consider making a donation to this very worthy cause.
BVL contributes to the well being of our veterans and active military personnel. As a contributor to BVL, I know that the three VA centers in IA receive funding for goods and services that are enjoyed by our veterans. BVL also supports a national TEE (Training Exposure & Experience) tournament which is held annual in Iowa for disabled veterans. The events include bowling, horseback riding, kayaking, and golf. I've had the pleasure of assisting the veterans in the bowling venue for the past four years. What a thrill it is to help and see them enjoy this event. Without BVL and the support given by them to our veterans, our veterans would have far fewer advantages than they now receive.
I have been a BVL volunteer for many years and have witnessed the great work this organization does for our veterans. I have visited Veterans' Hospital several times and have seen the veterans enjoying the musical group and activities sponsored by the BVL. It is amazing how much good BVL does and how much of the donated dollar actually goes to the veterans. Overhead costs for BVL are the lowest I have ever seen in a non-profit (and have worked for non-profits for the last 20 years)!
BVL was founded in 1942 to let the American Veteran know "they are not forgotten" by providing recreation, crafts and entertainment to hospitalized and disabled veterans. Our association sponsors special tournaments throughout the bowling season, with all proceeds going to BVL. We have been privileged to present the BVL check to the VA Hospital, knowing the money will bring comfort, fun and enjoyment to men & women who have served our country. To see a veteran laying on a gurney, smiling and clapping his hands as BVL sponsored performers bring joy and happy memories to lives spent in a hospital. BVL has been honored by special invitation to be part of the Veterans Day Celebration at Arlington Cemetery... the only non-military organization so honored.
Every year our bowling association takes a collection each year on the week of Veteran Day to support the BVL (Bowlers to Veterans Link) it is a wonderful organization. It supports our Veterans in hospitals & supports our troops who are serving our country. We our chartered under USBC which is the United States Bowling Congress we are very proud to support our Veterans every year.
Our association is chartered under the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) and have for many years supported BVL (Bowler's to Veteran's Link). Every year, during the week of Veterans Day, we do a fundraiser to collect funds for BVL. It is always an honor and a pleasure for our board members to visit the Hefner VA in Salisbury, NC and present them with a check from BVL help improve the lives of those veterans who live there. One only needs to visit one of these centers one time to see how much BVL truly helps our veterans.
BVL ( Bowlers to veteran's Link ) is 1 of 2 major charities that USBC ( governing body of organized bowling ) has adopted as a worthy organization to help raise funds for. Our local chartered association has been raising funds through contributions from our local bowlers. We do this at our local and state tournament and social events. We are just one of many local associations across the country that do this every year. Why? Because this organization uses 90% or more of the donations for the veteran's hospitals, veteran's homes and troops stationed overseas. They also return to the local organization that donates, over 95% of their donation to give to a local organization if they ask. In our case we have adopted the Veteran's Home in Edison NJ. For the past 5 year's our officers have presented a check to the center in November. On November 5th we will again be presenting a check for $2700 out of the $3000 dollars we raised this past year. It is a very satisfying yet humbling experience to present this money to the veterans who have proudly served our country.
