It was a great day when I found Border Horse. What an incredible opportunity to save the lives of horses and donkeys, including babies, elders, and everywhere in between, from ruthless slaughter. Those of us in rescue face this kind of anguish every day. It’s something you can’t ‘unsee’ when it has been starkly placed in front of you.Until our laws regarding this horrific practice change, including the rounding up of our wild mustangs, rescuing as many as we can is our only option. Not just any rescue, though. This is true of rescue groups across the board, regardless of the species they purport to serve.Border Horse is one of those rescues with the integrity, guts, courage, and unwavering will to do it right. I am proud to be a regular donor. Kendra Nelson fights every day for these precious animals. She is the Momma Bear of momma bears. Because of her commitment and conviction, however, Kendra has taken it on the nose as illustrated in the the small number of bad reviews on this site. I would like to briefly address those reviews and their content. As a social scientist who analyzes qualitative data, these reviews have a number of things in common: they say the same things the same way, they were written in close proximity time wise — the majority on the same day — and the domain names are such I would question if they are the same person or a much smaller set of persons. Regardless, such behavior is commonplace when a person or group has been successful. It is called the crab in the bucket mentality — those far less successful crabs grab and pinch the successful one getting out. The one making a difference in the world. Interestingly, too, it’s a badge of honor. No truly successful person is without naysayers. It comes with the territory.It’s my honor to stand with the 200K plus followers of Border Horse that believe in and support this lifesaving work. We relentlessly forge ahead, undeterred. For me, a side observation of this experience has been a real real time study of the human condition, at its best and worst. The real focus, however, is saving these innocent lives, providing medical care, comfort and reassurance, and the safety of a loving home. We have our work cut out for us. I have a rescue horse of my own. He has taught me about being indomitable and keeping a sense of humor. That also describes Border Horse. This is no rescue. She is just another mass bailer, scam artist and a broker for the owners of the kill pens and actions. She fundraises for these animals saying she is saving them. How are you saving the them when you are hundreds of miles away in another state? You don't see these animals, you don't see what medical care they need. You cant just take peoples donations then say they're safe...they are still in the same situation! No vetting. No medical evaluations to see what they need or pain medications...NOTHING! The animals that you do have on your tiny property, what is it you say, 60 plus horses live in tiny 12 x 12 dry lots. Maybe people that don't understand horses or grew up with them may assume that that's fine, but its not. How you can lay down and sleep at night is beyond me. Using the suffering of animals and the sympathy of your donors who truly believe they are helping is about as low as a person could be. Do your research people. There are some amazing, legit rescues out there....this just isnt one of them.
SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! This so called rescue is nothing more but a broker for kill pens. She raises thousands of dollars each month off the backs of suffering animals. Rarely does she even give updates or any proof that these poor animals receive the vetting, farrier or general care that many are in need of. Claims she has rescued over 10,000 horse but very rarely are these animals ever seen again. Her so called "sanctuary" is 12 acers with a home and large, donor purchased" barn. She keeps 60 plus horses on the remainder of the land in 12x12 pens. There are also 2 zebras, numerous dogs, cats, chickens, cattle, pigs and goats. Most of these animals are kept penned up with little to no training. They are not handled for halter training, for the farrier or just the most common o things such as grooming. I personally think of her as a hoarder, not a rescue. Her idea of a happy horse is a fat horse. Anyone that has been around or owned horses knows that is simply not true. A rescue should be 100% transparent yet she cannot, or refuses to show how funds are used. And if you question her about anything, you are blocked from her numerous accounts. She is nothing but a scam artist. I really hate that I have to give her a star because in no way does she deserve one. Border Horse is definitely a non-profit...because these poor animals never profit from her at all.
I have followed Kendra for over 3 years now I have never seen a person so dedicated to her horses and other animals the amount of horses that the rescue has saved from going to Mexico on the slaughter trucks As for all the b s comments I have read it’s a load of rubbish it a sham they don’t help to save lives like the border horse family keep up the good work Kendra you can hold your head up high xx
This is a BS rescue that leaves horses after getting funds donated to help them from the "slaughter truck" for someone who doesn't work her and her boytoy have a new barn, trucks, panels, etc and her license is suspended by the tax board and she's still grifting money! She houses 70+ horses who don't get any training and she is not a trainer or rider, if you ask questions you're blocked from her page! Wake up America!!! Don't give to this hoarder/rescue
I wish there was an option to leave negative stars. This is nothing more than a mass bailing scam. How can you call yourself a rescue when you are a broker for the kill pens? How can you call yourself a rescue when you don't even see the horses? She's in CA, the kill pens/auctions where she "rescues" from are in TX and LA. Many of these animals come in with serious injuries yet don't receive medical attention. She abandoned six horses for over six weeks that she raised $6300.00 to "rescue". She says she only does a bail of 10%, so that would only have been $630.00. Where did the rest of the money go? She was only discovered to have abandoned these horses after the kill pen contacted another rescue, a legit rescue, begging them to help these poor forgotten souls. Now, you know it's bad when the KILL PENS, are asking you to help! One horse had to be put down because he was in so much pain!! In pain, no medical attention and starved! I will add photos of the before and after of the horses. The photos that are labeled before are what the horses looked like when Border Horse was fundraising for them. The ones labeled as after, are what they looked like when they arrived at the legit rescue. Her excuse was that a woman she was going to pick them up but never did. The lady was contacted and said she had already told BH that she could not afford to and would not be taking them. But that doesn't matter to me. I feel if you are fundraising for these horses, then they are your responsibility and yours alone. She claims she has 'rescued over 10,000 horses. Where are they? 99% have not been seen again. She lives on 12 acres and says that there are over 60 horses/donkeys/mules there. Not to mention 2 zebras, cats, chickens. cattle, pigs and goats. The horses are in 12x12 stalls. Thats not my idea of a sanctuary. Many are not halter broke or touched. And how can someone that has not worked in 7 years, and claims she does not pay herself afford a brand-new truck, jet skis, motorcycles, farm equipment and feed and maintain her personal animals? So yes, I wish I could give negative stars to this fraudulent non-rescue.
This entire rescue is a scam! The “CEO” has all family members as board members and never post any proof of board meetings. Furthermore Kendra the CEO uses donors fund to maintain her life since she doesn’t have a job. She’s also used donations to pay vet bills for her personal franchise she bought last fall. This rescue also mass bailed horses from the Stanley’s lot in Louisiana and left them behind for roughly two months. Another rescue had to step in and rescue the horses from the torture they endured from the “rescue”.
Also this “rescue” is currently suspended in California due to no business license! She no longer owns the rights to the name Border Horse Slaughter Rescue and legally must cease and desist use of the name and any and all fundraising under the name since that’s the name her EIN is under!
Also to be noted I shall include a photo of the CEO doing illegal drug activity during one of her lives! The other two photos are what this “rescue” did to two of the horses that they mass bailed and abandoned on the kill lot of the Stanley’s. There’s further evidence of other horses being mass bailed and left behind from a Stanley’s employee! He would have to give the abandoned horses away to members of the public to get them off the lot.
Now we know they will respond with the standard this isn’t true but there’s plenty of proof on the Facebook page Border Horse Slaughter 2. Due your research and there’s proof of illegal use of nonprofit funds!
Border horse go above and beyond to rescue horses out of the slaughter pipeline. They spend 10’s of thousands of dollars on medical cases to get these horses well again. They don’t euthanise because that is the easy less expensive option. They throw resources into getting these horses with horrific injuries and illness well and healthy again. They get the best feed care and medical.
They were transported to the stables at the Showgrounds in winter to keep them out of the snow and mud before their barn was built. Not a small effort to organise that mission.
It’s just disgusting that people from hate groups who have one mission which is to drag down a rescue because they have a personal vendetta. People need to do their own due diligence and thoroughly check videos times dates tag numbers vet facilities to ensure everything matches up not believe doctored bits of clips on shear here say.
Hopefully this group will do their due diligence and take these untruthful reviews down. Dirtying someone’s reputation without 100% checking the facts in just plain wrong and illegal I would think.

I have followed her pretty much from the beginning and there is NO way in heck she would ever sell a horse to Auction or slaughter! Kendra is amazing. My husband and I also have a horse rescue (in Texas). She has helped us and reached out to us. Her ONLY concern is to help and save these animals. If you see/hear negativity about Border Horse, please know these are disgruntled people and are not an accurate reflection of Border Horse. This is not something she does for profit. It’s her passion!!
This rescue collects funds for personal benefits. Rescues zebras, but doesn't allow proper space for free movement other than a 10x10 stall. The rescue seems very shady. The owner works WITH the killpen and horses and donkeys have seems to have been pulled before or fundraised for more than once. Fundraisers seem to pay for the owners personal animals as well. If a person reaches out and asks a question, they are immediately blocked from their page. Ver few follow ups on the 80 or more animals in their care. The few pictures show lack of dental amd hoof care and possible wormy bellies. Owner has multiple "fake" Facebook personalities to act as if many donors and activity. "Non profit" status is currently on hold and shouldn't be collecting funds or collecting funds under different accounts. SO MANY RED FLAGS!!!!

Zero rating. I witnessed Kendra's mistreatment of Waylon, the Amish draft horse. He was ignored, never treated by a vet, and then sold to a kill pen. She made a nice profit over the suffering of that handsome animal. I need to mention that her ranch maintenance practices are poisoning the water source for her neighbors.

Liar. Steals to live a high life style saying she has no job.
But brokers for kill pens to sell their horses for pay back.
Shuffles horses around to sell them back to kill pen.
Has started the town of Fiddletown and her neighbors on high alert, by contaminating the well and waterways with e-coli.
Over 70 animals on 6 acres.
Horses and cows and Zebras. All which live in 12x12 pens.
So many dogs and cats. Most dogs live in cages.
Seriously a extreme hoarder situation.
Not a rescue.
Folks, please do your research and donate responsibly to organizations that are actually helping horses with rehabilitation, recovery and adoption and have open doors and transparency. This rescue is nothing more than a broker for the kill pens to fund the pockets of few at the expense of the lives of the animals that will disappear back into the sale pipeline, ship market, starve or abandoned in QT or live indefinitely in pens unhandled, while funds continue flowing in for their upkeep. Each day begging for funding for more? New trucks, zebras purchased from breeders, new barn for the dogs adopted and none neutered and zebras living in a stall while aged horses are on a rocky hillside. As I am reading reviews,I am shocked to see some of them.Most of them I honestly do not believe.Kendra has lied to me personally and a few others that have tried to adopt horses and we all have good credentials.We have now figured out Kendra would rather let horses stay in quarantine than adopt them.I feel bad for any equine that is rescued and I use that word lightly by BH.Has anyone that leaves these reviews been to her property lately or ever? I’m thinking no.Please think twice before you let this not so good person lead u to believe she is anything other than a scammer.

I followed Kendra since her first business of Leave the Gate open which later now has turned into Border Horse (an alleged non profit). She’s now located in Fiddletown Ca where her and her boyfriend have property, and yet neither one have a job ( and according to their IRS filings they do not take any compensation from the “rescue”). Since I’m not allowed to post personal details all I can say is google will enlighten you. Border Horse is now working as a broker for the Stanley Brother out of Bastrop Louisiana, and google will tell you all about that individuals history is abuse. Border Horse is not a legitimate rescue! As yourself in this day and age how do two grown adults own property, vehicles and recreational vehicles with no jobs. Many of the horses they state they have helped have disappeared much like what happened with high caliber.

Unfortunately, Kendra gives herself entirely to much credit to think I sit around and make up crap to talk about her sorry behind. This is my experience it is Not a smear.. She is a Broker for Bowie and that's a fact. She takes unsuspecting peoples money by working for and inflating the cost of the horses. Say it like it is.. And after speaking to numbers of people with similar stories it's amazing a bunch of people from all over the country that have never met one another have also been scammed by her fake rescue. I bought it hook line and sinker at first, I'll give her she is a good used car salesmen. So you keep pretending, and call it what you will. You know and I know what you do... Your a BROKER not a rescue. Horses aren't your business, Greed and Money are.

This is a sham! BHSS is a kill pen broker babe for Bowie. Here is a hairdresser. without a job, who gets a profit for selling kill pen horses. Ask her to be accountable for the horses that were "saved" yet no one knows where they are! She doesn't like what you say or question how someone who doesn't work can buy a house, acerage, trailers, trucks, tractors, hot walkers, round pens etc and you get deleted. Sadly this place has people who think she is golden, because she deletes all the comments from the people she screws over! She claims to be a 5013c...lets see some real proof where these horses end up and they ones she rescues she inflates the price tremendously so she can get a cut of it! It is a real shame to the true rescues out there.

Some of the “homed” horses disappear. Actually a lot of them; no updates in 90% of these, and no follow up. Where are they??
