Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Health, Lung Diseases, Lung Diseases Research, Public Health

Mission: We bring experience, commitment and a rigorous, balanced approach to the problems that keep lung cancer at the top of the list of killers. When it comes to eradicating lung cancer, the Bonnie J Addario Lung Cancer Foundation expects to make a difference in our lifetime. We are tireless in our efforts to further understand each new scientific breakthrough and end lung cancer. We make it a point to speak with researchers almost every day. We challenge them to make the necessary leaps to move from the lab into the patient’s hospital rooms and their bedsides. Because we believe “smokers are people too,” we don’t practice “blame” in our efforts to fight cancer. There are currently researchers working across the country to find a cure for lung cancer, and all cancers. We’re here to move those studies beyond mice to humans and we know their work gives us and our families, and thousands of people more real hope. We promise to lead the crusade for research and pour our energies into making early detection and screening accessible to all and making funding and education available to keep people healthy and alive despite lung cancer.

I am a Stage IV LC survivor. I was diagnosed almost two years ago, just after my 41st birthday. I sent an email into BALCF a few weeks into treatment, and was shocked to get a message back from Bonnie directly - on a Sunday night! She personally spent hours with me, getting me up to speed, pointing me in the right directions. Since then, I've been in contact with various other members of her staff, and all have been just like her - invested, caring, and above all productive. I've been in touch with several other LC organizations, and they've all meant well, but simply none have delivered results like BALCF (& the sister organization dedicated to research ALCMI). BALCF gives me very specific direction and contacts with the experts I need, and invests in research that is keeping me alive. If I need help with anything in the LC world, Bonnie and the BALCF are my first call. A+++++!

I'm a survivor of Lung Cancer (almost 6 years) and the Foundation has been an enourmous resource for information and personal support. The dedication and passion proven by Bonnie Addario and everyone involved is unlike any other I've experienced. I'm proud to be a part of their fundraising walks in Texas and have been the top individual fundraiser for the past 3 years.

Unlike some other non-profit Orgs, I see actual results from my efforts. I truly feel, in a world where Lung Cancer is stigmatized and neglected by adequate research funds, that BJALCF is the change we so urgently need.

My wife was diagnosed with lung cancer over a year ago. As we progressed from one piece of bad news to the next, we also were fortunate enough to learn about the Bonnie J Addario Lung Cancer Foundation. The support, education and renewed faith they have given us has been precious beyond words. And the research work they are championing gives us faith that there may someday be a cure for this nasty disease. Bonnie and her staff have been beyond belief in the guidance, support and friendship they have given us. We don't know where we'd be without them and are giving them all of the support we can in return!

As a healthy, non-smoking 28 year old diagnosed with lung cancer, I was in shock. We were referred to the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, and they have been a beacon of hope in this entire process. They are hands-on, accessible, and above all extremely knowledgeable in the world of lung cancer. As I like to say, no one should have to go through lung cancer, but if we have to, thank goodness organizations like BJALCF exist to guide us through. Thank you BJALCF!
