Big Apple Greeter:- The best service that NYC could offer to its visitors. we had an amazing "made to measure" tour of downtown Manhattan. It opened my teenage children's and my eyes to how friendly and accessible the city is.

Where to start !. The irony was that our big apple greeter was infact British, originally from a town 20miles from where we live in England. We'd read a review in the Sunday Times newspaper and it seemed a fun and different way to get under the skin of one of the great cities of the world. Our greeter turned up on time and was genuinely interested in us as visitors to his great big city. He took the time to find out what we were interested in and what the kids were interested in and off we went ! Despite his great age ( our greeter was about 80) he really went the extra mile for us. We were treated to an insightful and personal view of Manhattan, no question was too trivial or silly and we were treated at all times with great personally courtesy and the most beautiful manners( you can take the man out of Britain but never the Britain out of the man!). We were taken right into Trump towers and to the top of the the shops at Columbus circle. We saw Strawberry fields and took a stroll in the park. The time flew by and it was all to soon to say cheerio to Donald, who invited us to hear him play that night in a jazz bar as his guests. For me it was a personal highlight and if i ever meet anyone going to NYC then i always always encourage them to give the greeters a try. I have no hesitation inrecommending them for an award, they really are the best of the city.

We had our trip to NYC in 2008 and we used Big Apple Greeter. It was honestly the best experience of our trip to NYC. The knowledge and love for the city that these volunteers have and share with you is truely amazing. You get to experience New York in a different light and get the true beauty and life of the city through these individuals. I have recommended Big Apple Greeter to everyone who visits New York.

We first met our Greeter, Joseph, in 2009 when he took us on a Greeters visit around Brooklyn. He was fantastic and we never would have seen or discovered so much about Brooklyn without him. His knowledge was vast and he enriched our holiday by making the visit extremely enjoyable and interesting. We have since become very good friends with Joseph and his lovely wife and meet up with them in both New York and the UK whenever we can. The Greeters organisation gives a wonderul perspective on New York as it is seen through the eyes of one of its residents. Long may it continue!

I visited New York in November, and of all the top tips I was given my many friends, by far the greatest was the one to request a Big Apple Greeter. We had a fantastic lady who showed us parts of New York we would never have discovered on our own and imparted more information than we thought possible about such a large City. Her knowledge of Greenwich Village was particularly interesting.

Not only was she a great lady and very knowledgeable, what a fantastic personality that really made us feel as though we had a taste of a real New Yorker!

The service was great that was offered and I would recommend to use the Big Apple Greeter everytime. We are hoping to return to NY at some point and will definitely request another Greeter...

I recently visited New York for the first time, from Sydney. I was interested in seeing Harlem & my Big Apple Greeter, Ellen, really exceeded all my expectations. What a lovely lady! She met me at my hotel, took me to Harlem where went to a wonderful service at her church - something I really wanted to do but didn't know if I'd be welcomed as a "tourist". (the church were very welcoming). We had a fabulous day together & got on very well. We lunched at a Amy's Soul Foods, she took me to the local market, a hair product shop (I needed some Afro hair product for my kids - very hard to buy in Australia), took a bus ride back downtown - all the while she filled me in on lots of local info. I would definately recommend Big Apple Greeter to others & if I'm ever lucky enough to visit New York again I hope I can get in touch with Ellen again.

By far the best part of our trip to NYC. Read about them on Tripadvisor. We were collected in our hotel and brought to Brooklyn by our greeter. A fascinating man...retired airline pilot who spent many hours with us showing us parts of NYC that we would not have gone to otherwise. A great organisation and I'm always recommending them to anyone I know going to New York.

I visited NY two times and both times I was lucky enough to have a tour with a Big Applegreeter. Both times I was shown a part of NY I otherwise wouldn't have seen. The greeters knew a lot about the area we went to and it was obvious they loved what they are doing.

Big Apple Greeter was so insiteful to us when visiting NY in October '10
Our greeter, Mike was very knowledgeable of every aspect of Manhattan and surrounding Neighbourhoods. We actually learnt more about the city that day than we had read in 3 different guide books and general searches online before we arrived. It gave us the confidence to explore the magnificent city on our own and made it much easier to get around and know what was where. Mike was friendly, funnny, and our kids adored him, he was really a typical New Yorker, and THAT my friends is the difference between paying a tour company that show you just the main sites that we already know about and only care about hearding you all onto a bus etc OR, walking the streets with a Big Apple Greeter and learning about the REAL New York and all the little nooks and crannies that guide books and other tours don't bother telling you about. I have recommended BIg Apple Greeter to friends and family and will certainly book them again in the future

I was travelling alone to NY from NZ via the UK, my first trip for my 50th birthday.
I met the most amazing man, an ex policceman who showed me his NY. Incredibly proud of his city, very knowledgable and human. He showed me how to order coffee, tip appropriately, use public transport, eat salt beef on rye with sides - all new experiences for me and he made it fun. He talked about his family and his workmates and his experiences in the city through 9/11 and he bought the place to life and gave it a face.
It was an amazing experience as we walked the city and it was all free as he refused even a cup of coffee at my expense.
I am so glad I heard of this and took the courage to use the service. Bravo and continue the good work

We (my husband and I) visited New York for the 1st time in 2010. I'd heard about Big Apple Greeters from a friend and decided to contact them on their easy to access web site. Carol Dyner met us at our hotel as arranged and she was brilliant. She walked us around places we would never have seen and recommended we buy a bus ticket to get around as I have difficulty walking. Without her input we would not have seen a quarter of the sites and her anicdotes and very interesting conversation informed us of life as a New Yorker as only a local would know.

It was a few years ago that I was in NYC by myself. I arranged before I left home for a greeter to meet me & she was even more delightful &
knowledgable than I'd expected. We visited the bombsite & walked the
Brooklyn Bridge, all the while talking about things I was interested in knowing about NYC. At the end of our meeting she put me on a subway
train to return to my hotel - my first ride on a subway. I was very much
impressed by her & by the concept of "Big Apple Greeters" in general.
It's a wonderful service for visitors & creates positive views of your great city.

My mother, sister and I spent a wonderful afternoon with our New York City Greeter. We were able to experience riding the subway, Central Park without the worry of the big city. Our greeter knew the city, told us the features of the city and made us fall in love with it! We walked the park, sat on the benches, spoke to people in the park, rode the subway-several different lines with his guidance. The big scary city turned into feeling like we were a home and comfortable with it. We are looking forward to our next visit real soon and will use them again. We have told friends to take advanage of this wonderful experience.
