Where can you go in Pasadena or surrounding areas and see wildlife up close and personal. I always enjoy watching the alligator sun himself or the bison entertaining the guests
Armand Bayou Nature Center is a rare treat. It is located on the Southeast side of the forth largest city in America (Houston, Texas) and is one of the best untold stories around. It is larger than Central Park, in New York City. If you are lover of the outdoors or nature, this is the place for you and your family. Entry fees are extremely modest and there are programs and nature walks for almost anyone, include a pontoon boat ride to see alligators, all types of migratory birds and waterfowl, and an occasional bald eagle. Additionally, there are pair of American Bison on site. A great family adventure at a very modest price.
I have never seen a place that works so hard to do so much to support its neighbors and its natural spaces while educating the public. Three beautiful ecosystems are represented here and there are plenty of ways that you can help out this wonderful treasure. You can simply visit, volunteer or donate, but you shouldn't just drive past.
There are many fine nature centers in the Houston area, but what sets Armand Bayou apart is the staff, volunteers and supporters, each of whom are truly committed to giving you the best possible experience. Over the past three decades, these folk have created the best example of what our gulf coast once looked like. Even when its hot, this place is cool.
Armand Bayou is the hidden jewel of the Bay Area. To truely enjoy it and understand its importance to the Bay area, you have to visit and tour the bayou and walk the trails. It is a true place of beauty, untouched by developers and community planners.
I've been involved as a Board member since early 2007 and a patron of Armand Bayou since the late 1980's. Armand Bayou Nature Center is a wonderful gem in the metro Houston area, offering a glimpse of what much of Houston was like prior to extensive urbanization.
If you need a place to go where you can't seea skyscraper or hear a car for an hour or two this is it. Beautiful preserved prarie and bayou habitats teeming with wildlife can help you get away from it all. Try a pontoon boat ride--you won't regret it.
