“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” That Winston Churchill quote sums up the amazing work the professionals at Animal House Shelter do on a daily basis. The staff of professional and caring people selflessly care daily for defenseless dogs and cats that would otherwise be destroyed. The health and safety of these animals is top of every associate's list of things to do. We have adopted two dogs and I recommend AHS to everyone who is looking to provide a forever home to one of these wonderful creatures. Five stars is not enough for this world class group of people.
Thank you Animal House Shelter. Adopted Sam previously Sequoia last July. He came from a real messed up situation. Understandably, He needed some time adjusting to his new life. He is definitely loved bunches! Sam and his big sister Sophia (who was also adopted) are living their best life's!
We adopted Blue Ivy 8 months ago. I reviewed her information and photo for weeks and no matter how many other cat photos I checked out I always came back to her. On the day we met it was as if we had been waiting for each other. She needed me as much as I needed her. She has settled in nicely. She knows this is her forever home and she has become very comfortable with my husband and myself. She is truly a sweet girl.
The shelter staff was wonderful getting us all Ivy’s information and also giving us some much needed help as we were first time cat parents. They are kind and wonderful people and they care… they truly care .
Enjoy the photos!
We lost one of our dogs fairly recently to a sudden heart condition and our remaining dog was very sad so we filled out the application in anticipation of helping fill the hole in our hearts and adding another member to our family. Huntley Animal House Shelter does such a thorough screening that it lets you know that these animals go to very good homes and are well loved once they get there. We adopted Brooks and she is the perfect fit for our family and a great companion to our older dog. We are planning to add one more addition to our family and will definitely be going through the Animal House Shelter again. All the staff there is kind, caring and so helpful.
We have adopted TWO cats from Animal House within the last decade. We have had nothing but great experiences working with Animal House. Their adoption counselors are top notch and were very informative. We appreciate all the hard work Animal House does to ensure their pets are going to the very best homes. The vetting/application process was simple yet thorough. They are definitely our go-to shelter recommendations to any family and friends looking to expand their family!
The folks at Animal House Shelter are incredible -- compassionate & caring. And they seem to have a 6th sense for pairing families with just the right pet.
After losing our two shelter dogs after 17 years, we went "window shopping" and quickly fell for a 3-year old Shiba Inu -- a handsome boy we call "Hibachi."
He's in a good home now -- independent as a Shiba -- but adapting to life outside of his 3 years in a crate, growing more confident and settled each day. We heartily endorse the work of this fine group and highly recommend them.
Thank you - thank you!!
We applied to the shelter and within the week they contacted our vet and 3 referrals. We were able to adopt our puppy quickly. Their volunteers were kind and informative.
Animal House helped me find all my furry friends! I have 2 wonderful cats and a dog, they are the best animals I could have ever asked for!
This shelter is incredible! One of the largest
No-Kill shelters in Illinois that has helped the lives of over 63,000 animals since opening in 2002! They are so dedicated, compassionate and always go above and beyond! Saving as many dogs and cats as they can, especially from many high kill shelters, to give these animals a second chance at life.
Highly recommend adopting from AHS!
Adopt a friend, save a life!
I am so grateful for Animal House Shelter. Without them I wouldn't have gotten my precious fur babies! Thank you for all you guys do! I will rescue all of my future babies from here!
I think this is a great shelter. The people really care. There every day to care for the animals through this pandemic and to care for adoptions. I adore my little bundle of crazy, Bernie!
Terrible place. My husband and I recently adopted a dog from, the Huntley animal House shelter. The dog was not given any veterinary care but we were told that he was “basically healthy and we have nothing to worry about “. Three separate women at the shelter also told me that the dog “didn’t come with any information “, and doesn’t really have any paperwork “, and “we don’t really know anything about him “. they made me sign a release form about diseases the dog might have and I was told “if I wanted to take him home I have to sign it “. We were lied to about the dogs history and they refused to give us his relinquishment paperwork when we took him home. I asked for about a week after we adopted him to obtain this paperwork and finally they sent the paperwork 10 days after we brought the dog home.
It turns out that the dogs previous owner had died from COVID-19. They purposely hid this information from us. My husband has cancer and is going through chemotherapy and all the staff We interacted with were told about my husband’s cancer. And yet still they lied to us. While I realize the risk of transmission is low from dogs to humans, now my husband has to get a COVID-19 test. This is not just a shady business practice. This is endangerment and willful deceit. Who knows who else they may have put in danger in the past or might in the future.
I was finally called back regarding this matter and the woman I spoke to told me it was my fault for putting my husband in harms way because “I brought him out in public”. Prior to adoption I was told that my husband has to be there or we could not adopt, even though they knew has cancer and hadn’t been feeling well. We were just complying with their demands. I was also told that they had no prior knowledge of the dogs history even though we have the paperwork with dates prior to the adoption to prove they did have prior knowledge.
This big black & white guy is Jack, got him three years ago in December from Animal House Shelter, Huntley. At times he can be challenging, but he truly just wants to please. He loves his forever home & family.
Adopting Winnie was a great experience at the animal house shelter. The staff was very patient and informative as we debated on adding another family member and they were very helpful when it came time for her to meet our other dog, Elvis. Would highly recommend animal house shelter to anyone looking to adopt!
The staff is very caring and passionate about the animals. It’s very evident that everything they do, is for the animals. I recently adopted a dog from here and the experience was very pleasant. We fostered the dog first, and then decided we couldn’t live without him in our home for the rest of his life, and then finalized our adoption. We are proud to tell everyone that our dog is from Animal House Shelter and encourage others to adopt their next animal from this shelter.
