Angel Covers is a non-profit that over the years has continued to keep administration costs at an extremely low level while maintaining focussed programs. Their mission is to address all aspects that children need - education, nutrition, housing and healthcare. The organization is very transparent and requires proof of performance from participating partners.
I been a volunteer and now board member with Angel Covers for nearly 10 years. It is difficult to find non-profits these days that contribute nearly 96% of donations every year to their programming. Angel Covers is a small but mighty organization that continues to stay focused. The images attached reflect happy faces of children that have directly benefited from the organization.
Humble Hearts, a school and home in Kenya, that now serves 300+ children on a shoestring budget is one of the programs of focus. Having personally visited 2 years ago I know that the work Angel Covers does with these children is used to provide these children with an education, something no one can ever take from them, feed them and love them.
As a woman and a mother of a young girl, I can't imagine worrying about her being married off at 12 or 13 because the family can't afford to feed and cloth her. The image of Zerong is one of hope - she can continue to go to school and become an educated woman and hopefully marry when she wants.
Children in this Huabei, China orphanage receive much needed vitamins through donations made to Angel Covers.
Working with Angel Covers makes me remember to take for granted my education, the food I eat consistently every day, the roof over my head and the medical care I can afford. Angel Covers brings hope to children around the world.
I first became aware of Angel Covers (AC) when I met Beatrice Anunda, founder of Humble Hearts School for the Deaf in Nairobi, on her visit to the US in 2008. We went on to sponsor two children at Humble Hearts, and gradually learned about other important work that AC was doing in Asia on behalf of children. My wife and I really like their emphasis on education for less-privileged kids such as deaf children, orphans, and girls in societies where they have less opportunities than boys. When asked to become a board member a year ago, I gladly accepted.
Angel Covers is a small, highly effective NGO that supports a school for the deaf in Nairobi and an orphanage in China. Director Kari Fillmore is highly dedicated and works for no salary, indeed, paying many Angel Covers-related expenses from her own pocket; hence, administrative overhead is negligible (stamps, etc. are about all). Several other administrative volunteers also work for no salary. Funds are raised through individual contributions, an annual fund raiser dinner, contributions through the AmazonSmile program, and other sources.
As my family and I continue to be involved with Angel Covers we are inspired by the volunteers and especially the kids. The volunteers and donors, many of whom have been a volunteer or donor for years, give tirelessly of their time, spirit and resources to help children see their potential, strive for their dreams and make great strides in building great lives as they grow. The kids bring their incredible spirit, hunger for knowledge and desire to expand their skills. The children the Angel Covers assists are not just looking for a handout or hoping for the best, they are dedicated to shape their futures with the help of all involved. Without the great volunteers and our very generous donors we wouldn't have the opportunity to help so many deserving children to develop into wonderful and productive adults.
I have been a volunteer and board member for this organization for many years and continue to be pleased with the on-going dedication of all involved. The children that are supported are grateful and are able to make significant strides in improving their lives. They strive to be the best they can be and they see that people care about them and want the best for them. Knowing that Angel Covers uses almost all the donations it receives to support the children is even more reason to support this organization. How many of us can say that all/almost all dollars they donate goes to actually support the charitable mission of an organization, which happens with Angel Covers (no one is paid including the Executive Director).
I first learned of Angel Covers in 2008 after hearing a talk by Beatrice Anunda, founder of Humble Hearts School for the Deaf in Nairobi, Kenya. Angel Covers is a very important partner in furthering the work of HH. My wife and I traveled to Nairobi with the Executive Director in 2009 and were utterly amazed at the amount of positive impact the school was having on its 300 students, all being educated in a makeshift school building made from corrugated iron and saplings. Fortunately, with major help from Angel Covers, Humble Hearts was able to build a permanent structure housing both the school and dormitories for students that needed to stay at the school, and Humble Hearts moved in during the following year.
My wife and I have continued to support Angel Covers and Humble Hearts through the years, and this year I was invited to join the Board of Angel Covers. Over the last several years Angel Covers has assisted the school in expanding its nutrition, healthcare, and shelter programs and has helped launch a program by which older students are now equipped with Kindle readers so they can access a far broader selection of textbooks and other reading material. AC is an NGO that has truly made a huge difference in the lives of many, many children, all with minimal or no overhead.
We've been supporting Angel Covers since 2008 and it is truly a worthy, grass roots organization. My wife and I visited one of their supported institutions, Humble Hearts School for the Deaf in Nairobi in 2009, and did volunteer work for a week. The staff works for small salaries and are very dedicated to giving a quality education. In addition, communication to those of us who continue to sponsor a child is regular and substantive, reinforcing our satisfaction in continuing our support. And, best of all, all Angel Covers personnel are volunteers and the minimal necessary overhead is covered by contributions specifically for that purpose, so 100% of sponsorship contributions and other donations go directly to the benefit of the people beng helped.
I have supported Angel Covers for years as a casual observer and "friend" of the Board. The more I learned about the great work they do, how comprehensive it is compared to other nonprofits that focus on one or two needs, the more involved I wanted to become. When a spot of the Board opened up, I leapt at the chance to participate! This charity truly looks at the entire ecosystem surrounding orphaned and impoverished children, from nutrition/medical needs to housing and education. It's helping to create a strong foundation on which these children will have better lives and help to break the vicious cycle of poverty.
I've been involved with Angel Covers for several years and, from the beginning, I have been impressed by the impact and reach the organiazation has thanks to the dedication and hard work of the
Executive Director, donors and volunteers who do so much to help children around the world.
I have known Kari Fillmore, the founder of Angel Covers, for several years through the First United Church of Arvada, where we both are members (I am a former elected Moderator) and she and her husband have been tireless workers for the Church, which has been appreciated Kari asked me to join the Baord of Angel Covers this year after I pointed out there should be more men on the Board.
As a nonprofit, this is woderful. I have served on several boards, including one college's, and this one works hard!
I hope this gets top designation, because it deserves it.
I recently joined the Angel Covers Board of Directors. I was immediately impressed by the care and dedication the Director, Board Members, and volunteers put into their work. Overhead costs are held extremely low, making donations to Angel Covers highly effective at making positive change in the world.
Angel Covers is a charity that is dedicated to bettering the lives of our youth. They help children all over the world, and in more ways than one. They provide medical care, hospitality, education and even a nutritious diet to the needy. Angel Covers instills a passion for achievement and encourages every child to shine. This creates a driving force in each child that allows them to forge their own paths as adults.
As a board member for Angel Covers, I can attest to the wonderful work that AC does for children around the world. Being a completely volunteer run organization, each person is driven the mission and the work. We could not have a more dedicated Executive Director who works to drive the goals of the organization & a board that is committed to continuing to support and improve AC's operations. Few international organizations allow donors & volunteers to see the work of the organization firsthand (i.e. trips to Kenya & China).
Angel Covers is a wonderful organization that I am extremely proud to be a part of
