AMVETS National Service Foundation has been around since 1947. I remember my Grandparents as I was growing up talking about AMVETS and how the Service Foundation had helped them after the War. I find this organization great to work with and communicating with the Staff is wonderful. I have spoken with both Pam and Janet (301-683-4050) during my most recent Flag order and they sent my Flag out next day. The website is also user friendly and when I donate I get my tax donation record immediately. Please be like me and logon and view all the Programs and Services they provide, I was truly amazed at all they do: www.amvetsnsf.org

From everything I've read they're great for vets who need assistance, but as a donor, HORRIBLE. Dragged a bunch of stuff to under my carport (emptying my house, not currently residing in it) for the next morning of the supposed "pick up". Drive by the next day after class and everything is gone but the couch i left our for them. Couch is in perfectly good condition, freshly washed covers. So either someone came by and stole my stuff or they just picked up the box, end table, and kitchen table, and left my couch outside for the rain to get too. They were supposed to leave a donation slip too, but after reading the comments they probably just not showed like with every other donor and someone stole the stuff they could fit. These people are EXTREMELY picky about what they'll accept as donations. Just give to salvation army, it's much less of a head ache.

I would like to take the time to recognize AMVETS for all of the wonderful things they stand for. I have been donating for years and will continue to donate. I couldnt have picked a better organization to support. Thank you for all you do and stand for. Our Vets and families are proud!

I have been working with AMVETS and in particular with AMVETS National Service Foundation, Lanham, Maryland for over 17 years. I love their Americanism Program, as I help my local school with educational materials, Flags which I purchase from AMVETS NSF, Lapel pins and the Staff are wonderful to work with. Ms. Austin assists me every year getting my materials and they are always right on time and of the highest quality (All American made).

I have also visited Veterans in my VA Hospital and visited my local Cemetery where the AMVETS Carillon plays such wonderful music for my deceased Father and his Comrades. AMVETS you are wonderful and thank you for all you do for our Veterans and their Families every day.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! I wish I would have read the reviews before dragging a box and six bags of donations out for pick up on 12/12/16. Apparently this organization is notorious for allowing people in the public to go out of their way to collect donations, drag them to the front of their home, only for them to have the ignorance to be ignored via a no show, then have the public drag the items back into their homes. Horrible horrible organization.

I have been donating for over 15 years to AMVETS National Service Foundation,
(EIN# 52-0970963) a National 501(C)3. I have researched this organization in depth and it does not solicit via telephone for cash donations, you can call them at 800-810-7148. The Staff is great to talk with as well. Please also review the various Veterans Programs at www.amvetsnsf.org
A few of their most prominent Programs are:

• Americanism Program
• National Service Officer Program
• Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service (VAVS)
• National Carillon Program
• National Scholarship Program
• Healing Heroes Program
• Thrift Stores

This Charity is rated independently by numerous Charity Evaluators and I have added the photos of each organization below which I found AMVETS National Service Foundation is currently rated by. There is more besides this website and those I have found which shows they are open and transparent in their dealings with the public. Another huge plus is AMVETS National Service Foundation is a Four Star Charity with Charity Navigator! Top of the Charity Ratings!

This is a great Veteran Service Organization serving our Veterans everyday!
Great Job and keep up the effort.

I donate to this organization on a regular basis. (clothing and household items) They run very good clean thrift stores and everyone is always very pleasant. You can tell the volunteers are appreciated and are very proud of what they do. I am always thanked for supporting the Veterans and it is nice to be reminded that this is more than just another retail store. I come from a family of Veterans and proudly support the cause. Keep up the great work!

I am the wife of a 100 percent Vietnam veteran. I received a letter through the mail telling us they would be in our neighborhood on the 26th of sept. I called them and told them we had ten or eleven bags of clothing to donate, some of which had never been worn. They said they would pick them up on the 26th between 8am and dark. They did not come so I called the local number on the letter. The lady said I needed to call the national number because they could contact the trucks by radio when she could not. She was only there to answer the phone. I called the national number and got no answer. This was on Saturday. I knew they would not be there on Sunday so I called again on Monday. They said they would be there on Tuesday. They did not come. I called again on Wednesday and told them they must not need my donations since they didn't come to get them and if they didn't come by Thursday I would donate them to someone else. They didn't come. My husband was very irritated and called the local office to complain. He told them he was a vet and wanted to help the vets whenever he could. The lady said they could pick it up on Monday October 6th. My husband told her he was not leaving it our porch for another weekend and he would never call them to donate again. After reading the other reviews(which I should have done before calling them) I have come to the conclusion that they don't want to fool with material donations, only money donations. What a shame !!

I was surprised to see that the organization claims they do not make phone call solicitations. That is how I have been solicited every year. The pledge order I received in the mail today even has my phone number on it. The caller was very insistent and would not take no for an answer. He insisted I had given in previous years when I had not. I will donate to another organization but not AmVets
