Mission: Mission Statement: to create for our children, through music, an environment free from violence. Vision Statement: By developing specific musical programs we will provide our children with alternatives to the cycle of poverty and hopelessness that so often leads to violence. We involve the general community in these musical programs through free concerts at schools, parks and other institutions in various neighborhoods throughout Miami-Dade. Disadvantaged children, typically low income and/or disabled, receive free individual music education and participate in full orchestra concerts. ACOP is based on an internationally acclaimed format proven to increase academics, cognitive skills and self-esteem.
Results: We support hundreds of youth and families a year in one on one mentoring, music instruction and parenting relationships.
Target demographics: Children facing adversity in underprivileged communities ages 4- 18
Direct beneficiaries per year: 2,000
Programs: We teach children technique in keyboards, drums, violin and vocal instruction in addition to offer parental involvement and mentoring to encourage the children. Research confirms that children's lives can be changed dramatically through family, group and one to one mentoring relationships. Investment in this program is an investment in helping children grow up successfully and overcome environmental challenges.
I want to take this opportunity to recognize and recommend American Children’s Orchestras for Peace. ACOP keep children away from unhealthy patterns and those dangerous idle times in after school hours when they may be prone to getting involved with street gangs and other violent activities. In the at-risk communities served by ACOP, after school hours are the most dangerous time for children to be outside in terms of becoming unintentional victims of community or street violence.

American Children’s Orchestras for Peace, Inc. (ACOP) is an extraordinary program. I have seen many examples of help based groups in the past however; I have long been impressed by the diligence and work ethic of this non-profit. I understand that they requested people to go on line and give opinions about the program and as a Board Member I jumped at the chance.

ACOP is an outstanding organization with true professionalism and love for children. They are able to successfully teach the children about music, mentor them on life issues, and give them pride in being who they are.
In the spirit of love, I hope others also give to keep the program as a positive… for peace.
