I have participated in Achilles events as a volunteer, and I can attest to the professionalism of the organization and the profound positive effect it has on those living with a wide range of disabilities. This organization distinguishes itself by breaking down barriers and highlighting the abilities and potential of members, and integrates them into mainstream athletics. The therapeutic value physically, mentally and spiritually is immediately evident among the participants. Handicapped athletes are not treated as "special" or "different", but the same as all other athletes. For many, this is a unique and uplifting experience.

Achilles touched, saved and continues to improve so many lives. Restoring the most important thing people lose when becoming disabled - hope. Achilles is empowering people with disabilities through sports, across the globe.

I have been participating with Achilles International Japan for about three years as a guide runner. I walk, run, and chat with many people every other Sundays. I receive a lot of energy from our members. I very often talk about our activity and how great it is to my family, so my children and husband also started to get interested in volunteering, and actually my husband started an activity helping children in poverty.

To be a good guide runner, I now excercise every morning. It's good for my health, too!

Achilles International has been a great help in securing our blind runners secure places to run in the New York City Marathon. They've assisted our organization in Tokyo in making accommodations available for the event, and have given us all assistance we required.
They are just great!

When I first moved to the Upper West Side of Manhattan, I thought Achilles was a sport clothing company. On every walk I took in Central Park, with my dog, by myself, with my family, I'd pass countless runners, walkers, cyclists, of all ages, in groups or alone, wearing their logo tee-shirts. They all looked so happy, healthy and dedicated to outdoor pursuits that I suppose I can be forgiven for being surprised to learn that Achilles is a charity that assists the disabled. In an instant, my thinking was upended. Achilles changed my view of the disabled from people who are lacking something to people who are amazing and can overachieve right up there with the best of us. Love this group.

I have been a member for about two and half yrs. Last yr was my first and hopefully not my last marathon, I can't say enough about the encouragement I received from the staff and other members always making me push myself harder to get to where I wanted to go. That is why I decide to give back, I now am volunteering my time and love it!
Achilles International keeps rock'n'rollin' GO ACHILLES!!!!

I was a volunteer to assist with the Achilles Freedom Team at the Bank of America Marathon in Chicago. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I'm a veteran and proudly support organizations which help those wounded in action. Achilles goes the extra mile. They go to the hospitals and give the wounded goals to work toward and not just easy goals demanding goals. It is amazing to see the athletics compete doing something I can't do and I have all my limbs. They inspired me to the point I had to volunteer again. I love being out there and helping to make the goals a reality for the athletics. They are amazing people with amazing stories. Achilles provides a road to recovery which not only emphasizes the physical but also stregthens the mental. The attitude of fun is contagious and inspiring. I cannot say enough about the experienc I had volunteering with this wonderful group of people.
