Mission: Access Partnership improves access to health care for people in need in Hampton Roads. Our Vision is that All residents of Hampton Roads can obtain the health care that they need to achieve personal wellness.

Target demographics: Uninsured, low-income adults ages 19 to 64 years of age.

Geographic areas served: Hampton Roads

Programs: Health Access programs including medical and dental. Availability of donated medical supplies and equipment. Community outreach events and education.

My sister is 72 and has muscular dystrophy. She is non ambulatory and cannot even sit up without the help of her electric hospital bed and remote. We care for her in our home as we feel she will receive better care from us than from strangers in a nursing home. Recently her hospital bed quit working and the handle on the Hoyer lift we use to get her out of bed broke. We tried to fix the bed but could not get it working. We did have the handle welded back onto the Hoyer but were warned it may not hold. We have limited funds to work with and were scared we would have to move her to a nursing home as without these items we would not be able to care for her. Access Partnership was a lifesaver. They supplied us with a hospital bed AND a Hoyer....both in great working order. Our family is so grateful to this wonderful organization! Because of them we will be able to continue to keep my sister in our home where she belongs. Thank you so much!!!!

I had no way of getting around and can't afford a wheelchair. Someone told me about Access Partnership and I called them and told them I needed a bariatric wheelchair. Two weeks later they called me back and said they had one free of charge! All I had to do was come get it. Thank you Access Partnership!

I am a two time lung cancer survivor and suffer from COPD, so needless to say I have a difficult time breathing which means walking very far is out of the question. This doesn't mean I just want to sit home, so whenever I can, I get out of the house with the use of my electric wheelchair. This chair is such a blessing to have, I would be lost without it. I'm able to ride it to the few places around my house; which is definitely better than staying in the house all the time. But not being able to fold it up and put it in the car does limit the places I can go. Having heard good things about them but still knowing it was a long shot, I called Access Partnership in February of this year with the hopes they could help me get a vehicle wheelchair lift. I just simply can't afford anything like that. Unfortunately, but kind of expected, they didn't have one and could only offer to put me on a waiting list. In my mind this seemed like a lost cause, just being put on a list and that's it? Well to my amazement I received a phone call from them telling me they actually had a lift donated and if I was still in need I could come get it! I can't tell you how excited and happy I was to get this call. I went with my son to go pick it up and just had to give their employees hugs all around! I couldn't help myself! I am so very thankful to them, they kept their word and now I'll be on the go again like the energizer bunny! Thank you from the bottom of my heart Access, this means so much to me!

My insurance won't give me stuff I need, like a rollator walker and shower chair. Access Partnership did not have the items I needed when I called but said they would add me to a wait list and contact me. I figured I would be put on a list and never hear from them again. Another person forgotten in the system. But sure enough, Laura called me back within 2 weeks to let me know she had 2 of the 4 items I wanted. I couldn't believe it! I have faith Laura will call when someone donates the other items I need. Access Partnership is an organization that keeps promises and follows through!!

I don't have insurance and after a fall, suffered a bad break in my thigh. I called United Way for help and they referred me to Access Partnership. They were able to give me a wheelchair. It has been a blessing! Since I cannot put any weight on my leg, I would have been stuck and relying on everyone else. At least now I have some freedom.

My mom is wheelchair bound, but thankfully can still move form chair to chair. Access Partnership remembered we have been searching for a Bariatric Wheelchair, and today they were able to provide us with one! Which now means, instead of my mom being stuck in the house she can get out and go shopping with me or run little errands, just able to go do anything to get out of the house! I'm just so very excited for this weekend now, I'm defiantly taking her out lunch and who knows where else we might go, our options are endless thanks to you Access!

My husband has a history of strokes and suffers from immobility. He has now developed painful pressure sores. Access Partnership was able to provide us with a patient lift, to help move him around, and also an air mattress. This will keep him more comfortable and help with preventing more pressure sores. I only wish I found out about them sooner. Thank you Access Partnership!

My wife and I were high school sweet hearts and looking back on the life we had planned together all those years ago, we never dreamed we would be going through the situation we are currently in. My wife was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) last year, and we were devastated to say the least. My wife at this stage is now has lost all voluntary movement below the waste, and I have been having to lift her to basically do anything that requires any use of the lower body muscles. This has really been taking a toll on my own body. I have been so worried I will hurt myself with the constant care my wife requires and then we would really be in trouble. Unable to afford the much needed medical equipment that would greatly help us out as this horrible disease progresses, we contacted Access Partnership and they were more than helpful, they were a God send! They were able to provide us with a Trapeze Bar, which was great because my wife can still use her arms and this will give her some much needed physical therapy. They also were able to give us a Patient Lift! This has just been such a blessing! I can now move her in and out of the bed and/or wheelchair with a considerable amount of ease, giving my old back a much need break from all the lifting. We were also provided with other medical supplies that will go a long way in keeping my wife comfortable and well taken care of. I honestly don't feel I could say thank you enough! You have change our quality of life, making this difficult transition a little bit easier. We both thank you Access, from the bottom of are hearts. May God bless you and the community you serve!

I'm so glad my Aunt called for help. My mom had brain surgery earlier this year. While recovering she got an infection and was in a coma for 30 days. After she came out of the coma, she began working with a physical therapist. She started making some progress but has a very long way to go. The insurance discharged her anyway and we had to scramble to find supplies. Access Partnership was able to give me a wheelchair and offered to connect me with anything else I would need during this difficult transition. Thank You.

I work full time as a preschool teacher and cannot afford dental insurance but make "too much" money for government assistance. I have COPD and am on oxygen. I had a portable machine that broke and my insurance wouldn't cover a new one. I have been stuck in the house for over 3 months. Someone told me about Access Partnership and I called them for help. They didn't have one but told me if one was donated they would let me know. Out of the blue they called and had one for me! Most places will forget about you unless you keep bugging them- but they remembered and I have my portable oxygen machine so I'm not stuck in the house anymore!!!

I had a client that had had the same shower chair for 20 years and I couldn't believe that. My boss told me about Access Partnership and they were more than willing to provide me with a shower chair for my client. I can't wait to surprise her with it. Thank you so much Access!

I have to say that what this organization does is amazing! I thought that there would be a small cost or catch to receiving any equipment, but when they told me it was completely free a weight lifted off my shoulders. Now I have what my mother needs when she comes to my home for visits. I would gladly volunteer my services to your organization because helping the community is such a satisfying thing. Thank you so much for your help and everything you do for our community.

My father had a double bypass surgery and one of the valves placed in his heart had collapsed. He went into cardiac arrest a little over a month ago and doctors also say that he suffered from a stroke. Thanks to Access Partnership I was able to find a hospital bed and so much more that my father needed and now I can breath a easier knowing that my parents don't have to worry about where they can get these supplies and how much it will cost. You guys don't know how much of a blessing this really is. Thank you again.

I was in need of a rolling walker and my insurance wouldn't cover it because I had not been with them for 5 years. The walker that I owned was a safety risk, and I wasn't sure what to do. A friend told me about Access Partnership, and I was very pleased with the service they provided to me. I think that it is awesome that they do what they do because there are so many people that need help with different medical needs. It's a comfort to know that there are still people that care.

When we look back in life, what we remember most are those times when kindness, thoughtfulness and support made a difference in our life. My family and I thank Access Partnership for the donation of the hospital bed for my brother.
