Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals, Bird Sanctuaries, Protection of Endangered Species, Wildlife Sanctuaries

Mission: Our mission is to give all domestic birds a "second chance" by helping them find a forever home.

Results: We are 13.5 years old. To date we have placed 100's of birds into new homes and given them a second chance. It is our desire to be able to purchase more land so that we can help even more birds have this opportunity. Currently we do not have enough space and are having to turn birds away. With your help we can get enough money to buy the land we need so that we have enough space for all who need our help.

Target demographics: parrots conure-size and larger.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 100+ birds

Geographic areas served: We adopt to Texas residence- but accept surrenders from all over. We also are willing to give guidance to all bird owners.

Programs: rehabilitation and rehome. We also provide education for the new adopters.

My Non-Profit Organization is North Texas Pet Food Bank. We were led to the Wings Of Love organization during a particularly trying time for them. They had just assisted in a rescue of 35 birds from a horrific hoarding situation. They amazed everyone with their commitment, knowledge and love for these birds.

I started working w/ Wings of Love Birdhaven when my 9yo son was pursuing a Bird project through 4-H. We were looking for places for him to volunteer, and the Rescue wasn't far from us at all. They immediately listed ways that even a 9yo could help: from making toys, to cleaning cages, to baking bread and fundraising. We were thrilled to be able to help, and as an adult volunteer I was able to start volunteering at the Haven itself-- learning to feed and care for the birds while the staff was out of town. I found that the protocols and routine that was set up were incredibly efficient and easy to step into. As I grew in my ability to volunteer, I also learned a lot about the policies in place-- the quarantine building, the testing, the medical treatments, the adoption procedures, and the aviary rules. The experience has made me a better 4-H Bird Project Leader, a better mom-to-a-kid-with-birds, and a person with a greater understanding in general of rescues. Their outreach seminars and daily handling of the birds are incredible and do a lot for the community. Thank you, Bird Haven, for being there not only to help the birds, but to teach us as well!
