Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Salvation Army

Mission: We at Unity, A Journey of Hope have built a strong foundation from our Southwestern Pennsylvania roots and growing our Non-Profit Organization to granting over 100 wishes to date. Unity, A Journey of Hope Created in the spring of 2007 and has since become a non-profit, tax-exempt, public charity. Unity, A Journey of hope presently services: Southwestern Pennsylvania, the greater Pittsburgh and surrounding tri-state areas. Founded in Vanderbilt, PA., Fayette County. built circa 1854, known to neighbors as "The Unity School." Following a life-time dream John & Bobbi remodeled their home in 2001 In August of 2007 Bobbi & John decided to create a non-profit that grants wishes not only to Johns patients but they extended their hands to the surrounding community in order to grant wishes. This endeavor has proven to be a true blessing to the Robinson's. , Johns hospice work was a stepping stone to what is now named "Unity, A Journey of Hope." Granting wishes to adults with life-limiting illnesses. Unity from its humble beginnings has grown into a national wish granting organization. Within this past year their hands have indeed stretched far beyond their local community granting wishes in Houston Texas, Denver Colorado, New Jersey, and Chicago Illinois as well as the greater Pittsburgh area. Unity's reach is not limited. Unity has "Operation Christmas Wish" where Unity gives the spirit of Christmas to families, whose parent has a life-limiting illness and cannot afford Christmas. Unity also "Adopts a Veteran" each year to say "Thanks for your service." Unity also leases out Durable Medical Equipment to people who may fall through the cracks and have needs that insurance can't help with. So won't you please consider helping unity grow, become a volunteer, volunteer your expertise, donate, get involved in making Unity a premier wish granting organization and like our motto states, with YOU and UNITY we will... "Change one life, one wish at a time..." To "Change One Life, One Wish at a Time" Unity grants wishes to adults 18 years of age and older with life-limiting illnesses.

Programs: Program expenses (final wishes of terminally ill adults)

grant wishes to terminally ill adults.

My family and I were blessed by the kindness and selflessness of Bobbi and John Robinson with Unity when our dog went missing in Uniontown, PA. They are such a wonderful couple with a wonderful charity, full of love and light, looking to help make others lives better and more fulfilling.

What can I say about John & Bobbi Robinson? I have never met such loving, caring people, who go out of their way to grant these wishes. Bobbi works very hard behind the scenes to set things up, set dates & times, gathering info to help make these wishes happen--And John--well, he is the most compassionate person, and the way he speaks & handles his own patients & his wish recipents is so heartwarming. Just watch the videos, You can see his love & compassion shine through. They truly love what they do and it shows. I am proud to call them my friends

Unity is always making people cry!

Photos and videos of persons who have been helped, always show men, women, and little kids weeping happy tears in gratitude that others have shown their love and concern when days look hopeless and dark.

Just knowing that there are people so kind hearted in our area is wonderful. Even the smallest request for a wish requires so much planning and work. Unity often has to beg for help to get grant wishes for persons with life-challenging illnesses, but they are not ashamed to beg and do not quit when they get no response.

In short, they are there, and with their group of loyal volunteers, they have caused happiness in the lives of many others.

They are a blessing!

With just one post and request from Unity, we learned what they needed to help another person. With a few more posts, we were able to connect Unity with a helper in a distant city, and it was a great feeling to be part of the machinery that operates solely to help others. But the biggest part of the engine is the ignition, and Bobbi and John provide that by being there for others. Never doubt the power of one (or two) person to connect with others and make a change in someone's life.

being a part of making a wish come true would
change my life. Megans wish to swim with the dolphins
In Key Largo Fl was an amazing journey for Megan

Journey of Hope came into my life thru the power of a tweet on Twitter. I was invted to photograph Megan from VA who has Aicardi-Goutiersa syndrome. Her wish was to swim with dolphins. Meeting John and Bobbi and Megan and her family truly changed my life. I met some incredible people doing incredible things thru Journey of Hope. I still get goosebumps remembering the smile on Megans face, and the incredible experience the dolphins had on all of us. Thanks to Dolphins Plus in Key Largo, Journey of Hope and Megans family, I will never forget the time we spent together. Thank you for letting me a special part of Megans wish.. Sincerely... My name is Jack Evans and I have a radio talk show on WMBS 590 in Uniontown, Pa. Unity has been guests several times and they always generate many calls of support and praise. I reach hundreds and hundreds of people and I am stop in public by listeners who tell me how wonderful Unity is. I had a company call me and they then gave a donation to Unity. They could only do this because Unity is a non-profit. Unity must keep their status.

Unity actually went above and beyond their usual mission (helping adults with life limiting illness) this year with journey's mission. Unity volunteers and good samaritans collected numerous items for staten island and rented a large box truck and drove it to staten island...In this truck were countless needed items including, full size deoderant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, bar soap, bath gel, lotion, antibacterial gel, face cleasner, makeup remover, shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, razors, shaving gel, female sanitary products, diapers, cleansing wipes, as well as hotel sized items of all the previous items. Brand new socks, gloves, winter coats, hoodies, hats, scarves, as well as used brand name items. Jeans, new undies, bras, sweats, etc. Blankets, bed sheets, dog bedding, dog blankets, dog/cat toys, food bowls, animal shampoo, 50lb,20lb,and 12lbs bags of pet food, kitty litter, leashes etc. There were lots of house cleaners, bleach, sponges, brushes, 300pairs of work gloves, toliet cleaners, floor cleaners etc. Glucometers, first aid products, medications such as cold meds, tylenol etc. Shoes, boots, children and baby clothing. Baby items and care products, diapers! Then don't forget the food items! Unity a journey of hope works hard to provide a free service in this area. There literally are very few groups (if any) that grant wishes to adults with a life limiting or terminal illness. They also adopt a family for operation christmas wish and will work hard to fufill wishes of US veterans. This is a small local group with no big connections so you can imagine how hard they work to grant wishes that involve celebrities. The only payment they need is to see the smile on the wish recipients faces!

A close friend says "I want you to go to a meeting with me". "What kind of meeting?" I ask. "You'll see" she responds. When we get there we are welcomed with warm embraces and many thank you's for coming. They don't know who I am, but treat me as if they have known me forever. John and Bobbi Robinson treat everyone that way. They pour there heart and soul into every wish and treat each one as if it is the most important wish they have ever been asked to do. They are truly loving and giving people and it shows in this wonderful charity they have created. Unity, A Journey of Hope is their life. Every volunteer mirrors thier enthusiasm. I am proud to say that I am a part of Unity!

Life's path can lead you in many different directions, and for me it lead me to Unity, a Journey of Hope. A close friend asks me to accompany her to a "meeting". Not sure what I'm in for I reluctantly go with her. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. The founders and volunteers there were so passionate about their cause, I couldn't help but want to become a volunteer! The wishes they have granted astounds me and the time, effort and heart they put into each and every wish is, without a doubt, amazing! I am so proud to be a part of Unity and I am so thankful that life's path (and my friend) led me to this wonderful organization. I feel blessed to have met all the people that make Unity, a Journey of Hope what it is....a true blessing to those that need it most.

Unity-A Journey of Hope's founders work morning, noon and night to grant the wishes of Adults . John and Bobbi grant wishes sometimes in a matter of hours when the need occurs. They give their time and expertise to do things that, when you hear what they've done with the little money they have to work with,, you shake your head in disbelief. There is such a great need in our area for these wonderful wishes. They not only help Fayette County residents but all the surrounding counties. Without Unity, many adults will miss out on a final experience that makes them smile when their Soul is leaving for it's final destination.

I am in awe of Unity- A Journey of Hope. John and Bobbi Robison and their volunteers put wishes together in hours that woud take most of us days or weeks. As a hospice nurse, John truely sees the difference one small thing can make to someone on that final Journey and also the family. Bobbi really goes above and beyond with the little details that make a difference. Things the reciepient may not have even asked for. They are the Top of The List Non-profit for so many, not just in our area , but across the country !!!

I have small cell lung cancer, a cancer that spreads quickly and is quite deadly. I try to live life to the fullest, continuing to work and do things that I enjoy. I am a huge Steelers and Pirates fan, I run a facebook page called We Support Hines Ward, and have been honored to do work on his career highlights for his website. Being the fan that I am, I desperately wanted to see Hines Ward receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Dapper Dan. Thanks to Unity I was able to have my wish granted!! It was the most wonderful and incredible night, and I am so thankful to them for making sure I had my wish. I can't say enough great things about them!

Why would you take this great non-profit off your list? THAT is just wrong. These people work day in and day out to serve dying people. No it doesn't get lots of publicity. SO WHAT? Why is that a requirement to do good work? Every day they are on the phone looking to grant someone's wish. EVERY single day. Looking for people who can donate 10 minutes of their time to fulfill a wish of a lifetime . Looking for a sympathetic hotel chain or an airline or publicity dept. You should seriously rethink your protocols if that is what they are. Look at their web page, look at their Facebook page and see wishes granted and dare to say they are not among the most selfless giving people you can find. They are a great organization and deserve ANY support you can give them, whether it is looking for something a recipient needs, or arranging a trip or a visit with one of their heroes.

These people are heroes. They grant wishes to dying adults to make a dream come true. They give of their time, their income, their respect, and their love. They NEVER say something can't be done, but who do we call, who do we know who cares, how can we help this person fulfill a dream? Its not easy asking companies to give a free room for the night, an airline free tickets, a star to do a meet and greet but again and again they get people to come thru because remind them of the truly important things in life: love - family - dignity - and how they would hope to be treated in similar circumstances. This past weekend they arranged for someone to meet Bruce Springsteen, they arranged a marriage and reception for a dying man and his girlfriend in I think 3 days. The list goes on and on. I wish I had some skill to offer them, but I don't, so I re-post their stuff everywhere I can because what they do is precious, a life-changing act of love. They make a difference in someone's life EVERY SINGLE DAY. We are blessed to have these people in this world.

My daughter Chrissy is in the process of having her wish to swim with the dolphins fulfilled. Chrissy was diagnosed with a glioblastoma in November & had a craniotomy in December. We are scheduled for our trip next month to Key Largo. John & Bobbi are wonderful to grant this wish for Chrissy! She is thrilled beyond words! I hope they will continue to be able to do their good work!

I was approached at work by John and Bobbi several years ago. They were looking for a donation of internet service for a few months so a wish recipient could stay in contact with her family. I had just read an article in a local paper about their mission, so I was familiar with their organization. I was more than happy to help them, and approached my boss to see what we could provide. He was on board instantly, and we got everything set up to help for them. They were so appreciative of the help, and could not thank us enough. I have remained in contact with them over the years, and have donated what I can when I can as this is such a wonderful, caring and compassionate group! Im so fortunate to know them, and will continue to support them!

The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others.
