Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Adult & Child Matching Programs, Children & Youth, Foster Care, Job Training, Vocational Counseling

Mission: By engaging individuals, committed to human rights, under the framework of the SDGs, Udayan Care enables nurturing homes for vulnerable children; empowers girls to aspire for and pursue higher education and gain employability; offers communities digital and vocational training to become self-reliant. Through research, training, conferences, and advocacy, Udayan Care influences policies and practices on the Standards of Alternative Care in the South Asian region.

Results: Since inception, with the help of many passionate people like you we were able to impact and empower: 1211 children in 17 Udayan Ghars across Delhi, NCR, Kurukshetra and Jaipur More than 8400 Shalinis through Udayan Shalini Fellowship Programme More than 17000 women, children and youth through Udayan Care Information Technology and Vocational Training Centers INTERNING/VOLUNTEERING: WHAT IS IT ABOUT? As an intern, you will have the chance to apply what you have studied by working at the office, having an impact on the structure of the NGO. Psychology, economics, statistics, IT, languages…no matter what is your background, your skills will be needed! As a volunteer you will spend your time with the kids (for international volunteers, criminal background check by your local police is compulsory!), organizing activities, teaching them languages or other subjects, helping them with homework or simply just being there for them and enjoy time together by playing or going to the park… Of course, you can do both, half of the day at the office and half of the day in a Ghar. You will discuss and decide your specific tasks with your supervisor once arrived; as the situation is constantly evolving and different needs may arise therefore no pre-defined job description can be shared. Both you have to get accustomed to the new situation and the staff needs to know you before matching your interests and capabilities to the needs of the kids and organisation. Keep in mind the differences between India and your home country. All of the international volunteer/interns feel disoriented and often incur into difficulties at the beginning but you will find in Udayan Care all of the support you need. Cultural activities, daily life advice, a lovely staff, the full availability of your supervisor, all of the other volunteers will help you cope with the cultural shock and in a couple of days, you will enjoy your experience at best. There are always many interns and volunteers working with us, coming from all over the Globe to share the same experience: France, Japan, Ghana, Italy, Germany, USA, Egypt... The cultural variety will further enhance your staying and you will have many occasions to hang out together. Other opportunities will be about sharing your passions by giving workshops, receiving help for organizing your travels through India, having traditions, Hindi and cooking lessons, international days, receiving support to find the best accommodation according to your requirements… Your volunteering experience will be complete by offering you a chance both to give back and grow in individual capacity. By the end of it, you will probably have friends from all parts of the worlds and know itsy bitsy of all the languages.

Target demographics: children, youth and women

Direct beneficiaries per year: With a Vision "Making Young Lives Shine", presently there are 211 children across 17 Udayan Ghars, 8314 Shalinis were inducted in the Udayan Shalini Fellowship Programme who will live their dream of higher education. Our Vocational training centre has since inception given successful training to 1426 underserved women in Stitching and Tailoring, Beauty Therapy, Paper Craft, Enamel Work, Block Printing, Graphic Design, China painting, etc. and provides livelihood opportunities for disadvantaged women by selling items created by them, under the label ‘Sukriti’. Udayan Care is a Public Charitable Trust, working for the last 25 years, for the quality care of disadvantaged children, youth and women. Appalled by the stark reality of 31 million orphans in India and shocked by the condition of institutions housing them, a few like- minded individuals got together to

Geographic areas served: Delhi, U.P, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu

Programs: Our various innovative Programmes are: 1. Udayan Ghars: long-term Residential homes for orphaned or abandoned children who are are nurtured in a simulated family environment from the age of 6-18 years. Through a strategy called L.I.F.E- Living In Family Environment - this ‘Group Foster Care’ model ensures children are loved and cared for by a group of Mentor Parents-socially committed individuals (volunteers) who groom the children with a team of social workers, caregivers and supervisors. 2. Udayan Shalini Fellowship Programme - USF Through monetary and mentoring support, this programme supports girls from weaker sections of society to continue higher education. Today, we are proud that our girls, whom we call Shalinis, are pursuing fields like Engineering, Medical, CA, Computer Sc, among others. To make them socially aware as well as socially responsible, they have to fulfill 50 hours of mandatory social work. This Programme is currently on in Delhi, Kurukshetra, Gurgaon, Dehradun, Haridwar, Phagwara, Aurangabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Greater Noida, Panchkula, Pune, Thane, Bengaluru, Noida, Chennai, and Baddi. 3. Udayan Care Information Technology and Vocational Training Centres Udayan Care IT & VT Centres enable underserved youth and adults to develop IT and vocational skills to improve employability and livelihood opportunities. At present, we run 13 Computer training and 1 Vocational Training Centres where we focus on bridging the digital divide and impart business skills to increase the employability of the beneficiaries we work with. 4. Advocacy Udayan Care also engages in research on the care of disadvantaged children. Through organizing conferences, participating in NGO networks, developing policy recommendations, we ensure the protection of child rights. We played a leadership role in setting up "Justice for Children: A Policy-Thought Network" an association of NGOs and government members for protection and advocacy of child rights. 5. Volunteer & Internship Programme By encouraging and motivating civil society to participate voluntarily in our Programmes, we enable them to actively advocate for child rights and serve society in a sustained manner. Udayan Care’s Internship Programme provides a great opportunity for students to learn and gain on-the-job exposure to the not for profit sector. The objective of the Programme is to provide students with intense, practical opportunities to learn and experience the constituents of the non-profit sector, as well as contribute in their areas of interest.

Hello Iam Ishaan Kali Sarkar, It was a truly enriching experiencing to get associated with Udayan care through CAF India. Within a short span of one month, Members of Udayan Care conducted the internship programme in a focused manner. I was assigned write ups related to extremely relevant topics suited to the present context. Though online , Udayan care members Aditi maam, Hemlata maam were extremely helpful and responded to my queries . They were very good guides. This association not only gave me an exposure of the diverse ways of reaching out to the marginalized and distressed through diverse ways but also gave me an opportunity to sharpen my own writing and analytical skills

One of the best NGO in india I have ever seen. The most kind and humble thing one person can do is to do good for the welfare of the society especially for children. This NGO is best known for its good deeds that they have Udayan Ghars for children where they get nurtured with all love and care. I was lucky to work with Udayan Ghar project where I got to know different children with different skills set. Interaction with them was the best part in the project.
Security of children was at par and taken care of by coordinators and supervisors.
Highly Recommended by me!!!

It is the second time when i got an opportunity to work with Udayan Care. This time i worked with their USF vertical. It was a wonderful experience wherein i got a chance to visit their four different chapters (Dehradun, Haridwar, Kurkushetra and Haridwar) and interact with so many young and ambitious girls who are underprivileged but are full of dreams. Udayan Care through Udayan Shalini Fellowship program is helping these girls with resources so that they become self sufficient and are able to fulfill their dreams. I did a research project to help Udayan in understanding the expectations of these girls so that the organization can take measures in best of their interest. During the course of this project i got learn so many things which i would be thankful about all my life. Looking forward to work with Udayan Care on many more projects.

My experience at Udayan Care was far beyond great in all respects.

As an intern, I was asked to report to Udayan Ghar Greater Noida, from 2 PM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday. I was given three tasks, namely teaching two eleventh class students English, teaching one student in class three all subjects, and the third being documentation work.
It gave me immense delight to teach the students because they were so inquisitive and enthusiastic about the entire learning process, that i felt very motivated to do more. They all have a lot of great potential. Some write poetry worth applause, some dance very gracefully et al. Luckily, the students i was supposed to teach were good at sports (just like me). So I was able to gel with them very well.

On the last day, i prepared files for them, that contained my letters for them, their worksheets and pictures. I hope they liked it!

Udayan Care proved that their purpose is very much intact, with the support and guidance of the dedicated volunteers and teachers, who were always on toes to provide the children anything and everything they aspire for!
Thank you Udayan Care for helping my build my compassion for the society, even more!

My name is Yasmeen Hafeez. I had worked with Udayan care as an intern from 1st of July to 5th of August 2019. Today is my last day. My work field was in Udayan care home 1 Santa nagar and I worked there as a teacher, guide, and friend of the children and resolve their problems related to study and all with learning by doing, English practice, dictation & lots of. Once I had done a workshop in office with Udayan shalini fellowship girls on unemploybility and Government Job preparation. I will never forget this experience and I always try to connect with Udayan care and those children. All the children of home 1 are really cute and intelligent. It was great to see their mutual understanding, love, care & friendship for each other. During my internship I observed lots of good & positive things there eg-there was a homely good environment, they always asked me for food whenever that had their lunch, whenever I entered they offered me a glass of water. They have excellent manners and etiquettes, they execute their day to day work very efficiently like study, eating food, doing homework etc. really touched my heart. Last but not the least it was really an excellent experience to intract those children and teach them. Udayan care really doing great work for these children & giving them beautiful environment & resources to fulfill their Dreams. The team members of udayan care, caregivers and all staff members are very helpful, great & encouraging. They supported me to achieve the objectives of my internship. Thank you so much Udayan for giving me unforgettable memories, thank you for everything.. All the best. God bless you

There are a few things that struck me when I went to volunteer at the Sant Nagar home 1 of Udayan Care. First
of all, it was the behavior of the kids towards one another. It was heart-warming to observe the mutual
love, respect, understanding and friendship they share. During my period of volunteering, there was not
even once that I sensed any kind of rivalry or jealousy among them. I found that beautiful because they
all come from different backgrounds and yet live like siblings- like a family.
Another thing that touched me was their manners. At the end of each practice session, they would thank
me before bidding goodbye. Also, they would sweetly bring me a glass of water and urge me to sit down
whenever they thought I looked exhausted.
These kids are rich repertoires of warmth, love and great potential. And it makes me glad that they are in
a place like Udayan which seems to fully recognize this fact. I find it remarkable how wonderfully they are
taken care of- from providing them with a shelter within the community that feels like nothing less than
a home, to providing the kids with all sorts of academic and extra-curricular opportunities. I am indeed
proud that I have worked with an NGO like Udayan; so dedicated, sincere and passionate about the work
they do.
