Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Military & Veterans Organizations, Veterans

Mission: The Veteran Barn Door Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides Horsemanship Clinics to Veterans to help heal the hidden wounds of war. PTSD and TBI's are hard to see in a Veteran and often result in suicide. Trust and balance is lost for some during war. We help return that lost trust and balance using our horses.

Results: We have had Veterans on the verge of suicide return to society and become successful in new careers or rise in their current career due to finding a new balance in life and trust in people they had lost during their battles with PTSD.

Target demographics: Veterans suffering with the hidden wounds of war

Direct beneficiaries per year: over 175 Veterans

Geographic areas served: Throughout the United States

Programs: Natural horsemanship clinics and introducing Veterans to horses as an alternative to medication

There's just something about working with the horses that makes you realize how much you carry with you constantly because they mimic your feelings and emotions. I absolutely loved this workshop, but I also had a difficult time because I carry so much with me that I can't seem to let go. Seeing that reflected in the horse was difficult for me, and was a very emotional event. But I needed it. Even though the workshop just ended yesterday I want more!! Thank you Steve for working and sharing with the Soldiers at the WTU here at Campbell. I hope you realize how much it means to us and how much we appreciate you and what you're doing.
