Adopting a rescue dog takes a great deal of thought. My husband and I had decided that we didn't want another dog after the passing of our beloved Cocker Spaniel. It had been 3 years by the time Coco (named April by the rescue) found me. She had come to Canada for a hopeful adoption and was fostered in my community when her and I met. She was SO cute, I couldn't resist and after taking her home to meet my husband, within 2 days, she was ours and she had found her furever home. Coco had hit the jackpot you could say....we lived in Ontario for 6 months and wintered 6 months in Florida. She would never have to see snow! Life was good and after 9 months, upon having a blood test for her ongoing heartworm meds, she came up positive for heartworm. This was devastating news to us and after speaking with the Texas Chihuahua Rescue representative, they offered to fly her back to Texas to give her the heartworm treatment. Coco spent 10 weeks in Texas and seemed to do ok with her treatment. She came home but upon her return, she just didn't seem right and the folks at Texas Chihuahua Rescue agreed. Coco, very quickly became ill. She starte walking criss crossed, wobbling...signs of ataxia. We took her to a chiropractor and that helped a little we thought. Texas Chihuahua Rescue asked us to get an MRI and helped us with it, along with any other medical bills for hospital stays, etc. The MRI showed us she had Inflammation on the Brain and the protocol would be a steroid medication. Day by day, Coco was feeling better....it has been 4 weeks and she is almost 90% of her old self. She will continue the meds till they tell us to stop and we hope that she will continue to feel well and ward off the neurological problems. There were times on this journey that we were ready to give up...times that we thought she would not make it through, but with the help and loving support from Texas Chihuahua Rescue, we have our little girl back. She is still here for us to love and cuddle because sometimes it is about loving someone else besides yourself. Coco has completed our family and softened our hearts and we can't imagine life without her. This organization is top notch and I can't say enough wonderful things about it and the people that work for the rescue...working hard everyday to save the life's of these little ones. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts!
Texas Chihuahua Rescue comprises of many rescuers, volunteers, transporters in Texas and in Hamilton/Toronto, Canada area, like they say "it takes a village to raise a dog". Adopted Alfalfa a little Chihuahua mix who has medical issues. Their response to my questions and application was less than 24 hrs. We spoke , they answered all my questions and many more to ensure that Alfalfa would be a great addition to my family. I completely understand Alfalfa's medical issues when I adopted him and accept him as he is. Alfalfa is a very happy boy who loves to dance and make me laugh. He was transported to Hamilton, Ontario and they found him a fabulous foster until I was able to pick him up and bring him home in Alberta. A fabulous rescue who works hard at saving many lives and finding them the perfect home for their new second chances at life.
I would like to thank everyone involved in saving these wonderful babies. We've been looking for a long time for a rescue chihuahua in Ontario with no luck. I stumbled upon your Facebook page and I'm so grateful that I did. We adopted Sweet Pea who is now knowen as Lola. She's so sweet and adorable and a wonderful addition to our family. The adoption process was easy and seem less. I would highly recommend this rescue team to anyone. Thank you again for entrusting us with this precious baby. We promise to take care of her and love her unconditional. Such a rewarding feeling to save a life and get nothing but love and trust in return.
We adopted Elara now Gemma from Texas Chihuahua Rescue. She is a living doll. Our rescue boy Jax is totally in love with his new sister. The process was slick right up to delivery. The transport was so nice and our dog came off as clean as if they had given her a bath ❤️ Will def adopt again from them when it's time for another little. Thank you Texas Chihuahua Rescue. We are in love with Gemma
I've been following Texas Chihuahua Rescue for some time now on Facebook. I already am the proud parent of Chloe, my long haired chihuahua. I was looking to rescue another long haired chihuahua and come across Elvis on their website. He was a Hurricane Harvey surrender and I was drawn to him. I filled out an application immediately and spoke with Catherine very soon after. Elvis officially became part of our family and we love him. I feel awful that his previous owner had to give him up and would like her to have peace knowing we will love him for the rest of his life. Texas Chihuahua Rescue is a wonderful organization'! When I found "Cami" at ACS she was almost completely bald, ears completely infected, and her nails looked like they had never been cut. She was actually crying huge tears. I sat with her for hours before I checked my Facebook and saw the rescue by chance. I contacted them through email and Tammie answered right away. They were on the way! A few weeks later I picked her up. She overcame her skin issues, double ear infections, tooth surgery (all covered by TCR) and slowly but surely came out of her shell. She has an actual smile on her face daily and we adore it! She won our hearts and the hearts of her new brother and sisters. Every time we thought about taking her to an adoption event she'd hit a new milestone and prove she belonged here. Now named Bella Star she's adjusted perfectly. She potty trained right away, and helped her shy sister break out of her shell. She also loved cats so the transition was seamless. We're over the moon with our little Star. We couldn't imagine a life without her. She was definitely the missing piece in our home. Thank you Texas Chihuahua Rescue we can't say enough good things about you all and the entire process. Our baby is now in her forever home.
Texas Chihuahua Rescue is a fantastic organization. If it wasn't for them, I would not have met my precious long-haired chihuahua "Picasso." They matched me with a dog that would be happy living in an apartment on the 12th floor. Everyone who meets my little guy in the elevator or the dog park loves him. But, they don't love him as much a I do! He adds so much happiness to my life. He is a very gentle, sweet doggie who loves to cuddle. Deciding to rescue this precious dog was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Thanks Texas Chihuahua Rescue!
I saw my Korva through Adopt A Pet. I fell in love with her instantly. Texas Chihuahua Rescue responded to my application quickly. They gave an accurate description of her personality and the qualities of a home that would make for a good fit for her. I really liked that they sent videos so I could see her in action and the video helped to win over my husband. Initially he was uncertain about adopting a pet he hadn't met in person. As you can see in the photo insert he is totally in love with her just like me. Tammi Parker and all of the team were supportive and loving. I thought the pick up process was fun and exciting. I am so HAPPY KORVA is in my life. This is a great organization. Keep up the good work!
We wanted to add to our fur baby family and found TCR on Facebook. We submitted our application and waited to find our perfect little Jac. It was love at first sight!
Thank you TCR for doing what you do for these precious little dogs. And Thank You for this little angel Jac ❤❤❤
What an amazing experience! We are just outside of Toronto Canada and had never adopted a pet before. Everyone made this experience so easy, while still being excited for us! After we adoted and were waiting for our dog to arrive, we were sent pictures of how she was doing! Meeting the transport truck in Buffalo was a sinch and crossing the border was no problem at all!!!! I was shocked at how truly easy the whole expreince was. I highly recommend Texas Chihuahua Rescue!!
On Saturday Aug. 26th our family was blessed with our sweet little Royal. Thank you Texas Chihuahua Rescue for bringing this sweet girl into our lives. The process to adopt Royal went smoothly for us and I could tell by the communication with Cyndy..Texas Chihuahua Canada that this foundation cared deeply for their dogs and placing them in good homes. When I went on the Texas Chihuahua Rescue site, scrolled down and saw Royal, it was love at first site and the process to adopt her began. She is a sweet, cuddly little bundle of joy and we will treasure her always. I would highly recommended Texas Chihuahua Rescue to anyone looking to adopt a rescue.
They go the extra mile....literally! We live in the Yukon in Canada, which is approximately 5400kms (3400 miles) from San Antonio. We have a lot of larger dogs where we live in Northern Canada, but I was looking for a small dog which could travel and fly places with us. So I reluctantly contacted Texas Chihuahua rescue. They transport dogs to Ontario, Canada. Since we'd be travelling out that way during the next month or so, I contacted them and asked what they thought. Initially I was wondering as well about the possibility that we would not be approved due to our having a cat and a 60lb American Staffordshire dog. But they really don't discriminate dogs, which I thought was amazing since many folks have pre conceived notions about chis as they do about the "pit bull". We were travelling when the transport occurred, and the Canadian group stepped up and really helped us out tremendously by helping us find an East Coast foster home until we could get our little girl. It all worked out for us. We made it home with our girl, and I honestly can't say enough good things about this rescue. Every single person that I was in contact with (with my many questions and worries) they eased my mind again and again. I felt totally comfortable even adopting a dog which was so significantly far from where I live. Friends thought I was crazy. And this is a bit of a rare situation because we're quite far. However, as I said to the ladies at the rescue, it just goes to show what we can all accomplish if we work together for those that cannot help improve their circumstances on their own. What could we be if we all worked as hard as those at TXCR and TXCR Canada??? THE ANSWER: AWESOME!!! And if we worked together we could remedy the pet overpopulation problem! THERE ARE NO BORDERS FOR DOG LOVE!!! THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS. I would give you 10 stars if I could!!! :)
The Texas Chihuahua Rescue is a fantastic organization run entirely by awesome volunteers. In July 2017 I applied and was approved to adopt Estella, a young, stray Chihuahua found in McAllen Texas. The volunteers advised me that she had been in very poor condition. The volunteers got her the medical help she so badly needed. The fleas and ticks were removed, she was nourished and neutered. I was kept up to date as I waited for the God’s Dogs Transportation team to deliver her 1700 miles away to Delaware, where Estella has found her forever home. Without the Texas Chihuahua Rescue team, she would not have gotten the second chance she deserved. She is now a happy and healthy addition to our family. We love her so much. She is such a little gem we call her RUBI. She has stopped being afraid, and no longer cowers and shakes. She loves to play in the morning and has many little dog toys. At night all we have to say is “let’s go to bed” and she runs up the stairs and leaps into her bed (a plush dog bed inside a canvas crate) and sleeps peacefully all night. The photos below show what Rubi looked like shortly after she was found, and now. We are very grateful to Catherine and Tamie, and the whole Texas Chihuahua team. THANK YOU FOR OUR RUBI.
My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with cancer 17 months ago and was gifted many things after her diagnosis. We decided we needed to teach her about giving back and being thankful for what you have. One of the things she chose to do was to rescue a dog. As soon as we saw Maya aka Bonnie, we were in love and knew we had to rescue her. Maureen was amazing! She explained the whole process, and was so quick to complete all the necessary work on her end. In a matter of hours, Maya was officially ours. I am so thankful to everyone who made this possible. From Maureen, to the vet staff, to the transport team. Everyone involved took such great care in the whole process. Our daughter has taken her role of caregiver very seriously, and is so proud to say that she rescued a dog. Maya has fit right in to our family and enjoys her daily walks, morning play out in the yard, and snuggling with each member of the family in the evening. Maya has given our daughter a ray of sunshine during this difficult time in her life. Maya gives her something to care for and provides a distraction from her reality of dealing with cancer. We are so thankful to TXCR for everything. We have recommended them to anyone looking to expand their fur family, and will continue to praise them every chance we get.
My husband and I were looking to adopt another dog. I take our dog to work with me and planned on taking our new family member to work as well so we decided a smaller breed would be best. My husbands family has always had rescued animals so we began searching small breed rescue agencies. I came across TCR and researched their reputation, legitimacy and reviews. Every review I found was positive so I contacted them and within the hour I received a reply with some information and an application. I was a little apprehensive because I was never able to meet the adoptee, but in the picture her eyes were bright and she looked quite healthy. (It didn't hurt that she's the cutest thing I've ever seen.) The process went smoothly; TCR called my vet and friend as references and suggested a pup for us. I'm so happy I adopted from this agency. Jazz is a sweet, spunky, incredibly smart little girl. She loves people and gets along with everyone. House training took one week, sit, lie down, leave it, come, stay were in the same week. We love our little baby and the people who brought her to us. All her shots were up to date, she was spay as well. She came with a harness as well because they are slippery little devils and so tiny! We highly recommend TCR for anyone looking to find a love for life
The Texas Chihuahua Rescue is a fantastic organisation that more people in Canada should know about. If you want to adopt a Chihuahua-size dog here in Montreal, you will be hard pressed to find one. The adoption network has very few small dogs. Many of my neighbours have gone to breeders, who must churn out more puppies to meet the demand. Meanwhile Chihuahuas are among the top two most euthanized breeds in the southern United States.
Congratulations to the Texas Chihuahua Rescue for their work sending hundreds of little dogs up to Hamilton and Toronto, Ontario.
Since I had some rather narrow criteria for the dog I wanted, I wanted to travel to San Antonio to “interview” a few of them before choosing my match. I was looking for an affectionate and outgoing dog, and since would travel and go everywhere with me, s/he had to be portable: 6 lbs or under, adaptable, and enjoy being in public.
The friendly, dynamic and competent women of Texas Chihuahua Rescue inquired and understood my needs perfectly. They welcomed my friend and me down to meet their Chichis and spend time getting to know them individually. We were treated to outstanding Texan hospitality, and everything went swimmingly, from the initial welcome to the final trip to the vet and then customs upon our return. They even gave us a carrier and my dog’s next heart-worm pill!
I chose Emma (aka Mouse) and, after doing some sight-seeing in San Antonio together, brought her back to her new home in Montreal. She is a hit: sassy and playful at the dog park, and a charmer with the neighbours and storekeepers.
Thank you, Texas Chihuahua Rescue, for making us both so happy!
After losing my precious chihuahua I decided to finally get another one. I saw Peeka and decided she was the one. Peeka is now named Callie and she is just too sweet for words. The people at Texas chihuahua are wonderful and caring and help u every step of the way If u r looking to adopt a precious little one this is where to go Thank u
After deciding to adopt a rescue dog we thought we would do so locally (Ontario Canada), but after hearing about the great work Texas Chihuahua Rescue does we decided on adopting out of country. The process was very easy and any questions we had were answered in a timely manner. Once we started the adoption process we ended up falling in love with not just 1 but 2 puppies. Because the puppies were under 8 months we had to go to Buffalo to pick them up. The border crossing was so easy as the team had put together all the information that customs would need. You can tell that the puppies have been cared for and loved by all involved in helping these two find their furever home. Thanks to the foster homes , coordinators (Maureen), transport team and the Texas Chihuahua Rescue team for what you do for all dogs in need of a home.
After my niece told my to check Adopt-a-Pet.com., I spotted my little boy Austin and I new then that God wanted me to adopt him. He's such a good little boy - awesome personality, doesn't bark, does his business outside unless I'm gone then he uses the pee-pads (at least most of the time since accidents do happen). He sticks to me like glue although now that he's gotten more confident that he's in a permanent home, he will explore more. Just takes a whistle to get him back over to me. He loves to play with toys and he can fetch for hours without getting tired even though he only has 3 good legs. He normally uses his left front leg as a crutch but he's still fast as lightning using just 3. He loves going outside and being able to play and roll around on grass, especially in the courtyard at the assisted living complex where his grandpa lives. I can't say enough about the Texas Chihuahua Rescue, Inc. They did a great job saving him and everything about the adoption went really smooth.
