They go the extra mile....literally! We live in the Yukon in Canada, which is approximately 5400kms (3400 miles) from San Antonio. We have a lot of larger dogs where we live in Northern Canada, but I was looking for a small dog which could travel and fly places with us. So I reluctantly contacted Texas Chihuahua rescue. They transport dogs to Ontario, Canada. Since we'd be travelling out that way during the next month or so, I contacted them and asked what they thought. Initially I was wondering as well about the possibility that we would not be approved due to our having a cat and a 60lb American Staffordshire dog. But they really don't discriminate dogs, which I thought was amazing since many folks have pre conceived notions about chis as they do about the "pit bull". We were travelling when the transport occurred, and the Canadian group stepped up and really helped us out tremendously by helping us find an East Coast foster home until we could get our little girl. It all worked out for us. We made it home with our girl, and I honestly can't say enough good things about this rescue. Every single person that I was in contact with (with my many questions and worries) they eased my mind again and again. I felt totally comfortable even adopting a dog which was so significantly far from where I live. Friends thought I was crazy. And this is a bit of a rare situation because we're quite far. However, as I said to the ladies at the rescue, it just goes to show what we can all accomplish if we work together for those that cannot help improve their circumstances on their own. What could we be if we all worked as hard as those at TXCR and TXCR Canada??? THE ANSWER: AWESOME!!! And if we worked together we could remedy the pet overpopulation problem! THERE ARE NO BORDERS FOR DOG LOVE!!! THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS. I would give you 10 stars if I could!!! :)
The Texas Chihuahua Rescue is a fantastic organization run entirely by awesome volunteers. In July 2017 I applied and was approved to adopt Estella, a young, stray Chihuahua found in McAllen Texas. The volunteers advised me that she had been in very poor condition. The volunteers got her the medical help she so badly needed. The fleas and ticks were removed, she was nourished and neutered. I was kept up to date as I waited for the God’s Dogs Transportation team to deliver her 1700 miles away to Delaware, where Estella has found her forever home. Without the Texas Chihuahua Rescue team, she would not have gotten the second chance she deserved. She is now a happy and healthy addition to our family. We love her so much. She is such a little gem we call her RUBI. She has stopped being afraid, and no longer cowers and shakes. She loves to play in the morning and has many little dog toys. At night all we have to say is “let’s go to bed” and she runs up the stairs and leaps into her bed (a plush dog bed inside a canvas crate) and sleeps peacefully all night. The photos below show what Rubi looked like shortly after she was found, and now. We are very grateful to Catherine and Tamie, and the whole Texas Chihuahua team. THANK YOU FOR OUR RUBI.
My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with cancer 17 months ago and was gifted many things after her diagnosis. We decided we needed to teach her about giving back and being thankful for what you have. One of the things she chose to do was to rescue a dog. As soon as we saw Maya aka Bonnie, we were in love and knew we had to rescue her. Maureen was amazing! She explained the whole process, and was so quick to complete all the necessary work on her end. In a matter of hours, Maya was officially ours. I am so thankful to everyone who made this possible. From Maureen, to the vet staff, to the transport team. Everyone involved took such great care in the whole process. Our daughter has taken her role of caregiver very seriously, and is so proud to say that she rescued a dog. Maya has fit right in to our family and enjoys her daily walks, morning play out in the yard, and snuggling with each member of the family in the evening. Maya has given our daughter a ray of sunshine during this difficult time in her life. Maya gives her something to care for and provides a distraction from her reality of dealing with cancer. We are so thankful to TXCR for everything. We have recommended them to anyone looking to expand their fur family, and will continue to praise them every chance we get.
My husband and I were looking to adopt another dog. I take our dog to work with me and planned on taking our new family member to work as well so we decided a smaller breed would be best. My husbands family has always had rescued animals so we began searching small breed rescue agencies. I came across TCR and researched their reputation, legitimacy and reviews. Every review I found was positive so I contacted them and within the hour I received a reply with some information and an application. I was a little apprehensive because I was never able to meet the adoptee, but in the picture her eyes were bright and she looked quite healthy. (It didn't hurt that she's the cutest thing I've ever seen.) The process went smoothly; TCR called my vet and friend as references and suggested a pup for us. I'm so happy I adopted from this agency. Jazz is a sweet, spunky, incredibly smart little girl. She loves people and gets along with everyone. House training took one week, sit, lie down, leave it, come, stay were in the same week. We love our little baby and the people who brought her to us. All her shots were up to date, she was spay as well. She came with a harness as well because they are slippery little devils and so tiny! We highly recommend TCR for anyone looking to find a love for life
The Texas Chihuahua Rescue is a fantastic organisation that more people in Canada should know about. If you want to adopt a Chihuahua-size dog here in Montreal, you will be hard pressed to find one. The adoption network has very few small dogs. Many of my neighbours have gone to breeders, who must churn out more puppies to meet the demand. Meanwhile Chihuahuas are among the top two most euthanized breeds in the southern United States.
Congratulations to the Texas Chihuahua Rescue for their work sending hundreds of little dogs up to Hamilton and Toronto, Ontario.
Since I had some rather narrow criteria for the dog I wanted, I wanted to travel to San Antonio to “interview” a few of them before choosing my match. I was looking for an affectionate and outgoing dog, and since would travel and go everywhere with me, s/he had to be portable: 6 lbs or under, adaptable, and enjoy being in public.
The friendly, dynamic and competent women of Texas Chihuahua Rescue inquired and understood my needs perfectly. They welcomed my friend and me down to meet their Chichis and spend time getting to know them individually. We were treated to outstanding Texan hospitality, and everything went swimmingly, from the initial welcome to the final trip to the vet and then customs upon our return. They even gave us a carrier and my dog’s next heart-worm pill!
I chose Emma (aka Mouse) and, after doing some sight-seeing in San Antonio together, brought her back to her new home in Montreal. She is a hit: sassy and playful at the dog park, and a charmer with the neighbours and storekeepers.
Thank you, Texas Chihuahua Rescue, for making us both so happy!
After losing my precious chihuahua I decided to finally get another one. I saw Peeka and decided she was the one. Peeka is now named Callie and she is just too sweet for words. The people at Texas chihuahua are wonderful and caring and help u every step of the way If u r looking to adopt a precious little one this is where to go Thank u
After deciding to adopt a rescue dog we thought we would do so locally (Ontario Canada), but after hearing about the great work Texas Chihuahua Rescue does we decided on adopting out of country. The process was very easy and any questions we had were answered in a timely manner. Once we started the adoption process we ended up falling in love with not just 1 but 2 puppies. Because the puppies were under 8 months we had to go to Buffalo to pick them up. The border crossing was so easy as the team had put together all the information that customs would need. You can tell that the puppies have been cared for and loved by all involved in helping these two find their furever home. Thanks to the foster homes , coordinators (Maureen), transport team and the Texas Chihuahua Rescue team for what you do for all dogs in need of a home.
After my niece told my to check Adopt-a-Pet.com., I spotted my little boy Austin and I new then that God wanted me to adopt him. He's such a good little boy - awesome personality, doesn't bark, does his business outside unless I'm gone then he uses the pee-pads (at least most of the time since accidents do happen). He sticks to me like glue although now that he's gotten more confident that he's in a permanent home, he will explore more. Just takes a whistle to get him back over to me. He loves to play with toys and he can fetch for hours without getting tired even though he only has 3 good legs. He normally uses his left front leg as a crutch but he's still fast as lightning using just 3. He loves going outside and being able to play and roll around on grass, especially in the courtyard at the assisted living complex where his grandpa lives. I can't say enough about the Texas Chihuahua Rescue, Inc. They did a great job saving him and everything about the adoption went really smooth.
My experience with the Rescue was great! Easy and fast with responding. Yoda has been doing great adjusting to his forever home with his 2 sisters, one being another chi.
We are beyond grateful for Texas Chihuahua Rescue for our little Turkey. From her quirky ears and quirky personnality, we could not get ourselves to change her name. Turkey is as unique as her name. Thank you to Cathy for her phone calls. With the many questions I had sent by email. she kept it personal by chatting with me over the phone and reassuring me. She kept me updated and even went out of her way to help save travel time to pick up our pup, by getting us in contact with another adoptee travelling our way. She went above and beyond for us. I highhly recomment this rescue. They put the dogs first and look for the perfect fit, without scrutiny. Thank you for helping make our family complete.
Danni is my sweet little girl in the middle. Just had her DNA tested, and she is a chihuahua, border terrier and pomeranian mix She was originally to be a foster until she could find a forever home. But as soon as we met her, we knew this special girl would be with us forever. Now her and her sister Gizmo (the grey one) play together, and she snuggles with her other sister Chica (the black and tan one). Adoption process was smooth and easy. Am so glad we were able to connect, as Danni is one of the sweetest dogs you could ever meet!
After I lost my sweet girl, Spunky, after 16 years, my heart aches. I had my fiance's dog, a giant pittie, but I still missed my small dog. For months I looked for a reputable rescue to find a chi girl who I could give a sweet home too. One day, just scrolling through my Facebook, Aponi, now known as Vader, popped up on my screen with her big gorgeous eyes and floppy ears. I knew I had to put in an application, but knew it would probably get denied due to the fact I have a Pit in the house. To my surprise, two days later, I got a call saying I got her! My mom and I drove out to pick up this sweet girl and she's been our little wild child ever since. I love this sweet girl more than words can describe. She isn't a replacement to the girl I lost, she's an addition and she has a little Chihuahua guardian angel always looking out for her. Thank you TXCR for allowing me to give this girl a home full of love.
Texas Chichuahua is an awesome organization. They have amazing fosters and transporters and always do whatever it takes to find loving homes for these sweet misfortunate babies. I have adopted two little babies from them and love them to death. Their vet that they use does excellent work to ensure they are well vetted.
I have fostered for TXCR several times, and have enjoyed the experience. My latest foster, Persephone, is just such a cutie, and fit in so well with my pack, that I joined the ranks of 'foster fails' and adopted her. Even though she is not a Chi (she is a Pekingese), TXCR stepped in to save this sweetie, when contacted by the local SNAP (Spay Neuter Clinic), who found her and her son abandoned in their parking lot. TXCR does an amazing job rescuing, vetting, and caring for hundred of Chi's, mixes and honorary Chi's each year. They always do what is in the best interests of the dog, including providing often expensive medical care (dentals, as well) to every dog that needs it. Many rescue groups leave some or more of this care to the new adopters. I highly recommend TXCR as a reputable and caring organization to adopt from.
I just adopted a chihuahua mix through Texas Chihuahua Rescue, and the process exceeded all my expectations. I contacted them after seeing some of their available pets on AdoptAPet, They were extremely responsive from the beginning to the end to all my inquiries and questions. I ultimately adopted a 13 week old puppy, who had to be transported from Texas to Pennsylvania. She was not ready for travel for about a month, and during this waiting period, I was kept informed of the next steps, and very quickly had all my questions answered. TXCR took care of all the arrangments, and everything went perfectly. She arrived at the location and time that was designated, and it was obviously her trip north on a van full of rescues went very smooth. She was happy and healthy, and so ready to go to her forever home. It was obvious that her foster family took great care of her as she is calm, loving, and very sociable. The ladies transporting the dogs were angels. I even got a "check in" email the following morning. I would HIGHLY recommend this rescue organization to anyone. Through the process, it was apparent that the organization and its affiliates (including extended people, like fosters, transporters, and veterinarians) are made up of many individuals who truly believe in what they are doing and provide the best care to their rescues. I couldn't be happier.
You can't find a more friendly, helpful, quick to respond group of people who love what they do. We had been searching for a puppy to complete our little family and so many charities were very hard to get a hold of. Texas Chihuahua Rescue responded almost instantly to our emails and were very informative and patient in answering all my questions.
When the big day finally arrived to bring our little puppy home we were greeted by so many smiling excited faces at the pick up point. Everyone was so excited for us. Our little pupper is perfect.
Muggsy is so clam, I can tell that she was so well socialized and loved, it has made her transition into our lives seamless. Everyone at this organization loves what they do, and it shows in how well adjusted this little puppy is.
I can't recommend them enough.
:) Nicole, Devin + Muggsy
I've always wanted a chihuahua but already had 2 older dogs . I recently lost my 13 year old

happy and healthy. I look forward to adopting another one when it is time for my older cairn

Sincerely, Sandra Yarnall and Nugget
Texas Chihuahua Rescue exceeds my expectations and by far an incredible organization! I was looking for a loving friend for our other dog and we received much more then that! Our new little girl is an amazing dog with a big heart. We love everything about her even her sweet kisses! Texas Chihuahua Rescue made this adventure an experience to treasure and if I ever look for another dog, I know just where to go!! Thank you Texas Chihuahua Rescue!
I would highly recommend Texas Chihuahua Rescue to anyone! This rescue organization does a great job of providing factual, accurate information about the dogs and puppies in their care, in order to find the best match for both the dog and the family.
I found this rescue (in Canada) when searching on Petfinder. We wanted to adopt a young dog, as opposed to buying from a breeder. I would encourage everyone to seriously consider this route. There are so many great dogs out there that need homes.
My questions throughout the adoption process were handled in a timely fashion, and very professionally. I was able to find out more info about our dog from the foster mom. We will forever be grateful to this fantastic rescue for our sweet pup Izzy (formerly Icee). She is a cuddly, people-oriented dog that is so smart. The volunteers here are incredible. From the foster moms/dads, to the transport and admin/organizers; they do a fantastic job.
Texas Chihuahua rescue takes in all kinds of breeds (Izzy is a mix); so please like their Facebook page(s). If you are in Canada, like their Texas Chihuahua Rescue - Canada page for up to date info about available dogs. The adoption process is very organized. The dogs are transported to their furever homes through the rescue, and this fee is included in the adoption fee.
I would recommend this rescue to anyone wanting to adopt. We are so happy with our experience and our sweet pup!
I love Texas Chihuahua Rescue! I love our compassion for savings seniors, little dogs that are in peril and all the Chihuahuas & mixes we take in. We have the most amaxing foster homes that help us until we can find furever homes for the dogs we rescue. Our partnership with a team in Canada is helping us find more homes for the dogs we rescue. We are so fortunate to have a wonderful Facebook following to help us find the funds to care for these dogs!
