We found TXCR to be very friendly and helpful when providing information about the adoption process. As a Canadian family adopting from an American Charity, we had many more questions about the process. TXCR representatives was always available and willing to answer any questions. At our first vet visit, our vet was very impressed with what the rescue had done for the pup prior to our adoption. Our family was so happy with our first adopted pup and the adoption experience that we adopted a second pup a few months later.
I started looking for a rescue dog to adopt and I came across Texas Chihuahua Rescue website. I read their story and was very impressed and grateful that such wonderful people are out there rescuing these beautiful dogs. My application process went fairly quickly and I was approved to adopt within a couple of days. On the website I found my sweet little Diego (aka Shaq) who is only 4.5 lbs and a wonderful dog. My adoption fee included his neutering, all vaccinations, microchip and transportation to Canada. I am so happy that I was able to find Diego, he is a wonderful dog who loves to cuddle and play with his fur brother.
Thank you Texas Chihuahua Rescue and all the volunteers who take the time for these wonderful dogs.
In October I adopted my 10 years young chihuahua Mattie from TCR. I am an advocate of dog adoption and rescue, and wanted to adopt an older dog, but I quickly got discouraged by the alarming number of puppies or young dogs for adoption through other rescues. A woman I work with adopted her dog from the TCR, so I decided to have a look at the dogs for adoption in my region. The TCR web site is an excellent resource. They provide colour photos of all the adoptable dogs, with a detailed description about their age, background and temperament. I filled out their on-line adoption form and was impressed at Maureen's quick response to my email. She answered all my questions immediately and within 48 hours of filling out an application TCR had contacted my references and emailed me about a home visit. Within days a lovely volunteer visited my home to confirm that I am not a hoarder or running a puppy mill. I was so pleased at their attention to the needs of the animals after adoption. The adoption fee is slightly higher than other rescues ($500) but worth every penny for the peace of mind it brought me to have someone take care of all the details. Pick up is at a local cafe and when I arrived I was greeted by a throng of tiny dogs and a warm welcome from their owners, many of whom are also volunteers. It was a relaxed atmosphere, organized chaos, but such a great introduction to my new dog. I continue to enjoy Maureen's email messages and updates about TCR. I would like to get more involved when time allows because they are the best adoption organization I have ever worked with. Until then I am enjoying the newest member of my family who has been such a blessing. I have Texas Chihuahua Rescue to thank for connecting me with this lovely girl (see attached Mattie's first Christmas in Hamilton).
In February of 2017, we were looking to expand our family with the addition of another dog. We found the Texas chihuahua rescue online and got in contact with a volunteer in Hamilton. The volunteers helped with all our questions and concerns so we would feel supported and comfortable with our decision. We are so appreciative of their role in helping us find the perfect fit for our family and their continued support. It feels like we didn’t just add a new member to our family but the rescue group welcomed us into theirs.
Our experience with Texas Chihuahua Rescue was amazing. Right from the first point of contact with a volunteer. We adopted a sweet little dog that is perfect for our family and we can’t imagine life without her now. We really feel that we have helped to save a life and the volunteers at Texas Chihuahua Rescue make you feel that way. They’re an amazing organization that helps so many animals and I truly feel that any animal is lucky to end up with them. We are grateful for what they did for our little girl and very grateful for all the other animals they have saved. Thank you for all your heart filled work and we hope you continue to get support from lots of good people!
We adopted Finnegan aka Guppy in August 2017. Texas Chihuahua Rescue made the whole process so easy and smooth. We were able to communicate with his foster mom and see pics and videos while we waited for him to come to Canada. We absolutely adore Finnegan, he has been an unbelievable addition to our family! One thing I have to say is Finnegan is not happy with the cold weather here in Canada lol...always has a coat or sweater on when going out.
I adopted Daisy from TXCR in May 2015. She is an amazing addition to our lives and by adopting Daisy it lead me to volunteer with the TXCR. Volunteering was a way to fulfill my love and passion for rescue dogs looking for their furever homes. I currently volunteer for the Canadian chapter. I am honoured to be part of this amazing team who are so very dedicated to the cause. Not only that, they are the most kind and caring group of people who all share the same love and passion as I do.
I just adopted Daisy from the Texas Chihuahua Rescue. The staff and volunteers in Texas (and Ontario) are awesome to say the least. The staff and volunteers dedication goes above and beyond what is required of them. The love and care is apparent with each and every dog that they rescue. I cannot say enough good things about this organization. Please adopt from this rescue!!
I want to thank Texas Chihuahua Rescue for making my first experience a great one! Tracy was awesome and so were all of the ladies I dealt with. I cannot thank you enough for our newest family member Bean formerly Royce. He's quite the character.
I have been following Texas chihuahua rescue for about a year now, definitely one of the most amazing organizations I have dealt with. These people are absolutely amazing saving hundreds, and thousands of dogs lives and helping them find their forever homes out of their own good will. Adopting Vegas has been such an amazing easy going and experience, I would do it over and over again. I can’t wait to meet my girl on March 17th. Thank you TXCR for everything you do!!!!!!
I stumbled upon the Texas Chihuahua rescue one day at work while looking online to adopt a dog. I already have a 10 year old chihuahua and always wanted to adopt another.
I found Peyton on the available puppies page. She was everything I always wanted. A terrier/chihuahua mix, blonde and young. I would have adopted a older dog, however was nervous how my senior would react. I submitted my application and by 11 PM that night she was mine.
2 weeks past and it was finally time to pick her up in Buffalo. I was met by Maureen and her many volunteers. It was the most effortless process I have EVER experienced, and considering all that was involved in getting my puppy from Texas to Ontario, that says a lot.
Peyton has filled a missing piece of the puzzle for my little family. She is the best thing I have ever done, and I know I will eventually adopt another or foster some in need chihuahua. I have also become a volunteer for the organization and donate on a monthly basis to help support them any way possible!!!!
Thank you Texas Chihuahua Rescue for all that you do. You are truly angels on earth.
This was one of the best decisions of my life! I stumbled upon the Texas Chihuahua rescue on a Monday at work. I have a 10 year old tea cup chihuahua and was always looking to add another addition, however, it had to be a puppy. Within hours of finding the page, I had already submitted a application to adopt Peyton. At 10PM that night, I was contacted and advised she was still available, and would be placed on a hold for me. I paid for her the next day. The worst part was waiting for her!!
I was sent updates throughout the week, along with a guide on what to expect and the process she was going through ( vet check, neutered, her chip and so on).
They were even so kind to send pictures and a short video of all the dogs as they left on transport day !
We arrived in Buffalo at 6:30 AM and within a hour we were on our way home.
This was the EASIEST process I've ever done, and in the end, we saved her little life.
Shes now happy to be at her forever home, where she can now be a puppy!
Thank you to Maureen and all the staff and volunteers at Texas Chihuahua Rescue for the great work they do in safely finding and transporting these little miracle dogs to their forever homes. I adopted this sweet angel, Leone, in October 2017 and she is truly a joy. All my previous dogs over the years were all rescues, but Leone is by far the best behaved and smartest! The foster homes that TCR find are obviously very good dog handlers with great patience and understanding.
TCR is truly a well organized, loving and dedicated rescue. If only all "rescues" were this good, there would be a lot less need.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
We had a great experience with the Texas Chihuahua Rescue and Texas Chihuahua Rescue Canada from the start to finish of the adoption of our new little pup Wave. Even after the adoption was competed they still continue to be there for us and want to see updates. We can't say enough great things about them. Thank you TCR/TCR-C!!
I have been looking for a small dog to adopt for some time. I learned about Texas Chihuahua Rescue through my internet search.
I cannot tell you how wonderful our experience has been. From the time we signed up, to the time we finally brought our Bree home. The people that assisted me, mainly Shirley Crouse went above and beyond to make our adoption smooth and worry free. From the countless emails to phone calls, she was incredible.
If anyone is looking to adopt a smaller dog, Texas Chihuahua Rescue is the way to go. The love they have for these animals is amazing. What a team!!!
Our Bree has blended with our family like I could only have dreamed of. We just love her and so does our older dog, Bentley. They have already formed this bond that is just magical. I am forever grateful to Texas Chihuahua Rescue!
On Sept 23 we adopted a beautiful little chihuahua from this rescue organization. We live in Ontario Canada so it takes a lot of work by all these wonderful people to get these little pups here from Texas.Right from the first email when we enquired about the whole process everyone was extremely helpful and informative. It was a great experience every step of the way, right from getting information on individual dogs to best suit our family,to the actual application process, the whole experience was a very positive one.We drove to Buffalo to pick up our puppy where we met the hard working volunteers who put in countless hours to find the perfect homes for these little ones. This is with no doubt the best rescue organization out there they save countless lives and make so many families happy.I would recommend Texas Chihuahua Rescue to anyone whose looking for a new family member you will be saving a life and meeting some amazing people in the process. We will always be greatful to you all and will continue to support this rescue agency as much as we can so they can continue the wonderful work they do everyday.
I adopted Delilah July 29, 2017. She is the sweetest little girl and has the most loving demeanor. I bring her to work with me every day and she is always welcomed with smiles and attention from my coworkers.
The Texas Chihuahua Rescue placed Delilah with a foster family before she came to Ontario. This family got to know her and described her personality perfectly. This is the first interaction I've had with this agency and everything went so smoothly. Maureen was very helpful and even though I've had no issues, I know that she is there if I should need her.
When I am ready to expand my canine family, I will be checking in with The Texas Chihuahua Rescue again to find a friend for Delilah. Thank you for making adoption so easy! This is one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Ive adopted twice from texas chihuahua rescue. Both dogs were the perfect fit in my life. The rescue is so helpful. They really care about the dogs. I love the organization so much that i volunteer now.
I adopted from TXCR in September. I was in the hospital and struggling to make it through each day. I contacted them, looking for a companion. I told them what I was looking for and within minutes I received a response. TXCR found me my Lou, she is exactly what I needed to help me through each day. I can’t thank them enough for bringing her into my life. This rescue works tirelessly to find the right homes for these deserving dogs. In my opinion they are earth angels, saving lives on a daily basis.
We stumbled across the TXCR by accident after reading an article in a local Hamilton Ontario newspaper. We checked out their FB site and immediately liked what we saw. A real community feel. So many dogs in need plus they had a transport to our area every few weeks. My daughter and I started looking and then we saw "her" We fell in love with that face right away and started the adoption process. Everything was so smooth and everyone so helpful. After a home visit/ reference check and vet call by the rescue we were approved. A few short weeks later we finally met "Fancy" She has been everything we could have ever hoped for. The foster did a wonderful job and her description was very accurate. We cannot imagine our home without Fancy. She sleeps every night on my daughters bed and absolutely adores my husband and he her. Thank you Texas Chihuahua Rescue for everything you do. These dogs are lucky to have you working so very hard for them.
I adopted a chihuahua-corgi 3 yr-old dog from Texas Chihuahua Rescue, and it's been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life! I've even volunteered to foster for them because of my beautiful experience and my desire to save these little angels' lives. Their adoption and fostering applications are thorough and responsible...they really do care about placing the dogs with the right adopter. I strongly recommend them...they truly do beautiful work!
I volunteer in Canada with Texas Chihuahua Rescue. They are a very organized, honest and caring organization. Their application process ensures great homes for their dogs by checking vet records, personal references and home visits. They don't just find homes for their dogs, they find GREAT homes! They are a very compassionate group, and treat their adopters with the utmost respect and courtesy, right from the top of the organization to the bottom. The parent organization holds all of their chapters to the same high standard as they hold themselves.
