I had the best experience at the Swan Center. Ashely and Pana are so knowledgeable and kind hearted. I appreciate the time they took to teach me how to work with the horses and answer all my random questions. I also loved hearing the beautiful and sometimes heartbreaking stories of where the horses came from and how they found the Swan Center. It’s amazing to know they are all loved and well cared for now. I highly recommend volunteering at the Swan Center! You’ll enjoy the fresh air, gorgeous views and priceless one on one time with these magestic horses. Thank you Swan Center!

A Swan Center Outreach Volunteer Statement

When I moved to Colorado three years ago I was looking forward to retirement and finding new activities and community involvement. While reading the local paper I noticed an article about Swan Center Outreach. The picture of Shoshoni, a severely abused pinto mare, caught my eye and I knew then what my new volunteer commitment would be. Since I began volunteering at Swan Center two years ago I have discovered many things about myself in learning to care for these wonderful animals. Just driving to the Ranch and taking in the beautiful surroundings and the loving trust of the animals at Swan Center makes my day!
I have always loved horses and being around horses but as I got older I was less confident in myself and my ability. I have learned a lot from Rose and John and the Leadership classes at Swan Center. It has given me a lot more confidence and awareness in myself and my abilities. It has changed the way I view my life and my relationships and has given me a rewarding and enriching experience that I would not have thought possible at this time in my life.
Swan Center provides many outreach programs that have benefited both adults and children. I love working with the children in the outreach programs. Working with children and mentoring has been an important part of my adult life. Seeing the joy and sense of accomplishment that a child receives in learning a new skill or new awareness brings is very rewarding.
Swan Centers statement “Animals as Teachers, Healers and Friends” says it best.

My name is Pam Horstman and I am a volunteer and supporter of Swan Center OutReach. I personally got involved with their program in the summer of 2011. Seeing the horses and reading about their stories made such an impression on me!! I loved Swan Centers programs and the way they interact with the many horses they have adopted!! It made such an impression on me that I came back to Texas and started rescuing horses myself!! Reclamtion Horse Haven has 7 horses and 3 horses came from Colorado, they were headed to slaughter!! Swan Center Outreach is truly a God-send for the horses who didn't have a chance to the life the truly deserve.

The Swan Center Outreach is an outstanding program that takes care of the animals it rescues as if they were part of the family. My experiences at the outreach has shown me a side to horses that I had never fully seen before. The animals that I work with are more complex creatures than we all first suspect when first volunteering. As a volunteer I am able to work with horses that each have a personality of their own, and connect to the animals in such a way that they begin to grow on me. The outreach continues to help animals in need and, through outstanding programs, teach children about these great animals and allow them to interact with them at a level that every child appreciates.

After a grueling 4 years of working full time and going to school, after graduation I decided to do something that got me out of my rut of work, school, and schoolwork. I started volunteering at Swan Center hoping it would help me to learn more about horses. Not only have I learned more about horses, but the horses have helped me learn more about myself. Swan Center does such a great job of caring for their animals, and at the same time also provide excellent opportunities for local children to learn about responsibility, communication all while having fun! Thanks Swan Center!

My experience at the Swan Center has been extremely full filling. I get to spend quality time with my daughter, learning, teaching, and just talking while we are out volunteering. It is so fun to see her interact with the animals and grow as a person. She has gained responsibilty and improved on her communication skills. The Swan Center is a great place to "pay it forward" and give back.

Last summer I signed up for Swan Center Outreach to help the horses. They ended up helping me more. I benefit from the hard ranch work and the camaraderie of fellow volunteers who are compassionate and strong in heart and soul.

The horses are healthy and love their herd. They are fed individualized diets, designed for optimal fitness. They have regular check-ups, including dental. Their well-being and happiness is top priority.

My chilren & I began volunteering at the Swan Center summer of 2011. From day one we were welcomed with open arms, even though we had no experience being around horses. Everyone was friendly and we learned a lot. It was great to be at the Swan Center because there were people of all ages sand abilities, each of us were able to use our talents to help. My son is a big strong kid so he could help with some of the tougher ranch jobs while my daughter is good with a needle & was put to task of labeling blankets. I wish there was more time in the week so we could continue to volunteer, we are looking forwrd to summer and a break from school to get back out with friends & horses & llamas& alpacas...oh my.

I have been volunteering at Swan Center Outreach for over a year, and look forward to my day once a week where I can help with the care of 35 previously abused and neglected horses and other animals. I also enjoy participating in the wonderful training classes Swan Center Outreach offers, both about horse care, as well as those to help us live more fulfilling lives. This non profit has some big hearts heading it and has touched the lives of many, humans and hooved alike.

I met the leaders of Swan Center Outreach in 2008 and the volunteer classes that I have taken as well as the spiritual training that I have recieved have been extremely helpful to me.

I have benefited so much and I am so grateful for the training classes that I have had the opportunity to participate in.

The workshops that I have taken at the Swan Center have helped me to view my life in a better way. My perception (the way I see my life) has changed so much because I now view life as a way to serve others and to identify the real issues that I have instead of hiding behind everyday fears and frustrations.

I first went to Swan Mountain Outreach because I was drawn to the amazing work they are doing with saving , rehabiliating and loving beautiful horses but also because they use the animal - human connection to show that both parties can be rehabilitated by love and respect. What John and the others do at Swan Out reach is phenomenal and every time i go out to feed or help I am taken back by the beauty of the atmoshphere, the horses and the project. They deserve huge recognition and applause for what they do.........I love them! Stacey Brooks Connolly, Owner/CEO Sea Dog Sailing, Inc. www.seadogsailing.com

The animals at the rescue need "love"...."spiritual food" that I have been blessed to impart on them. Sure, putting out all the feed and supplements in the respective feed containers and leading each animal to their feeding station is my "job", but the real privilege is "caring" for them in a way they were not accustom to before coming to the rescue.
The best part is that "they" give back 10 times what I give to them, they renew my soul, my spirit with their genuine appreciation of my time spent with each and every one of them.
The organization is run by responsible, appreciative people. Trainings are thorough !! Equipment needed is available. Not to mention the beautiful setting to "work" - fabulous !!!!!
Thanks for this great opportunity, Geri :)

What a privilege it is to be a part of Swan Center Outreach which affects so many in such a positive and healing way. When you read their Mission Statement and the programs offered you'll understand the depth of their commitment to excellence in working with people of all ages. I have seen the changes on the faces of the children as they reach potential they were not even aware they had. Joy is a beautiful thing to see on the faces of children and it is seen every day at Swan Center Outreach.

Shortly after becoming a horse owner, I learned of Swan Center's educational programs and decided to try one of the courses. I soon realized that training a horse was really about my own training in the art of communication.

Swan Center offers several programs that rather than being just about animal care and safe training, translate into how we can become clear about our goals and our lives.

When working with horses, it doesn't take long to let go of a behavior that is counter-productive. We are fortunate to have this organization creating a learning environment at no cost to those interested.

This is a fantastic charity which helps people learn to connect with animals- mainly rescue horses but also alpacas, sheep, llamas, and more- and learn more about yourself in the process. Each animal's unique personality and background adds to the amazing experience of learning through animals as "healers, helpers, and friends" and helping the animals in return by giving them a better life than what most of them came from. Truly a wonderful charity and fun place to volunteer and be involved.

Swan Center is a sanctuary for horses and people. It is situated on a beautiful ranch under the shadow of the Gore mountain range. The rescued horses are an inspiration and it is a privilege to work with them. The best thing about the ranch is that they welcome all those who want to help in any way - regardless of horse experience. They have taught me the real meaning of a hard day's work and how rewarding it is to work with their wonderful horses who have all overcome impossible odds. I have learned so much about horses and myself and feel blessed to be a part of the Swan Center community. The effort put forth by everyone involved in the ranch keeps me grounded and reminds me what is really important in life.
