My husband and I do not have any children. He is a retired CMSgt in the Air Force and we live in New Braunfels. We have a good friend who works with Soldiers' Angels. I received an email about your adopt a family at Christmas. I called my friend asking her opinion about the program and she indicated she has adopted families. So I applied for the program and selected a family of five who live on Ft Sam. They have three young children and it has been an absolute joy to shop for the family (especially shopping for children). We delivered the presents to the family and was able to visit with them. We try to stay in contact with them. AND, I got the birth dates of the children so am sending them presents on their special day. We found out that the youngest child's birthday is the same as my husband, and the second oldest birthday is the same as mine. So this whole process has been a joy and fun.
Soldier's Angels is nothing shy of their organizational name. The outpouring support and devotion they show our deployed troops is nothing short of amazing.
My experience with Soldiers' Angels has been nothing short of amazing and rewarding. My first meeting was to be an attendee in someone's place that couldn't make it. Let's just say this; after the first meeting I was so moved and impressed by the people and mission of this organization, that I immediately signed up to become an Angel myself and volunteer. In the very few months that I've been a volunteer, I've not only had a very personally rewarding experience, but I have been able to see all of the good that this organization does for the men and women who currently serve and who are veterans of this country. I am now a Verified Angel and I hope to be a deputy for our local VA Hospital in Atlanta. I am honored, proud and humbled to be a part of this great organization.
The mission of this organization is one of the most respectful. I have been able to a variety of things for them in the short time that I have volunteered with them and I hope to be able to continue to contribute to their needs.
This organization supports currently deployed troops and veterans at the local VA. It is an amazing organization that serves those who are or have served our country with pride.
Hello, I would first like to give a huge "Thank You" to the staff. They are truly in support for the Soldiers and especially for our Deploying Airmen. I work with the AFR Yellow Ribbon Program and have had a great honor in working with Ms. Amy Palmer and the wonderful staff at Soldiers Angels. Our Program invites the Airmen and their families in all phases of deployment from over 36 AFR Wings and also from other Military Branch Guard/Reserve Units to a training event; in hopes to help with the transitions of deployment. The information and support we receive go straight to the Airmen and familes at the event. The families are so appreciative and always thankful. I cannot say how much positive feedback this gives to our heroes. They are an outstanding Program.
Soldiers angels is amazing! I didn't realize so many people cared about me and my battle buddies being deployed. Some people who wrote to me or helped me out did the same for others I am here with. It's such an amazing feeling to have so many supporters. Every piece of mail is a piece of home no matter what state it came from. I am truly grateful and honored to have made friends with the help of soldiers angels and to keep me sane while being deployed. Thank you to everyone who took their time out of their day to write me and share special memories with me.
I have been a volunteer with Soldiers' Angels for quite a few years. I have never seen such a dedicated and caring group of go l unteers. Supporting the needs of our miltary troops with letters and care packages when deployed. Supporting spouses at home. We support our Veteran's and VA's and once knowing their needs find the resources to give what is necesary. I v unteer. At my local VA and am the VAVS Rep for Soldiers' Angels. I highly recommend this organization and I am very proud to call myself a Soldiers' Angels.
All I can say about The Soldier's Angels, is this. If it wasn't for them I might have lost my mind being down range. I received a package one day out of the blue, there was so many nice things and a hand written letter inside. After all the months I had been down range and not receiving mail, this was a warm and needed welcome to my soul. This hand written letter was from a lady in PA and she was an angle. I wrote back to her and thanked her for what she had done for this Soldier. It wasn't long after that, that I received another letter from her and we have written back and forth to each other at least once a week while I was deployed. TO this day a few years after retiring from the service we still chat. The Soldier's Angles are the greatest group of volunteer's I have ever meet. They do make a difference to the Soldiers down range and always bring a warm smile and a tender touch to the heart of the hardest of Soldiers. Thank you again for all you do and for what you have done.
The fact that this organization is driven by volunteers is what has impressed me. These amazing people truly have a heart for the military, and reach out personally to find out what they need and then find the resources to meet that need. Especially with all the news about the underserved veteran population, this is a stand out with their ability to go a into the VA hospitals.
Working with Soldiers Angels is a wonderful experience. They are so appreciative of anything you can do for our military. The follow up is great. Always a thank you and even pictures!! As a military mom I cannot thank this organization enough for their efforts on behalf of our troops.
I cannot even begin to say enough wonderful things about Soldiers' Angels. They are the most professional, caring, and fun group of people I've come across. They support current and past military folks by sending mail and care packages, baking, sewing, and even extending a handshake or hug. Everyone is dedicated and always more than willing to lend a hand to ensure all needs are met. I'm proud to be part of this wonderful nonprofit organization and would highly recommend everyone get involved immediately.
This is an absolutely amazing organization not only because of how well they fulfill their mission, but also because of the amazing people who run the organization. Since 2011 I've been working with Leslie Scott and other members of Soldiers' Angels who have helped me plan projects for my sorority Sigma Kappa and the other sororities at Lock Haven University. These great experience led me to join the letter writing team! All of the representative I've been in contact with are beyond helpful, energetic, and selfless- all around great and inspirational people. This is an organization that I always speak highly of and definitely recommend others to get involved with! I'm honored to be apart of it!
I have donated to this organization for years because I always feel confident that Soldiers' Angels will maximize my dollar or the items I donate to benefit the troops. The Georgia Chapter is amazing, cranking out thousands of packages every year and has now started great programs to help VA patients and homeless vets. I don't know of a more dedicated organization!
Fantastic organization. Our Soldiers Angel's rep, Leslie Scott, is phenomenal. Bundle of energy with boundless enthusiasm. Always there when we have a vet or family that needs assistance. She is so good, that we had some groups come together to honor her.
Keep up the great work. We need everyone in the fight.
I found Soldiers Angels to be the most amazing nonprofit organization I've every known in my 66 years. They are there for giving to soldiers in need. If the are in a combat zone, Christmas stockings with greetings cards and goodies are sent to them so that they know we are thinking of them. If a soldier's family here at home is in financial or health difficulties, Soldier's Angels are there to ease their pain and help with the problems. I've stood and stared in amazement at the warehouse of items waiting to go to a soldier. Every item has been collected by volunteers for the waiting soldiers. There are groups of women sewing blankets to comfort bed ridden soldiers. Do you know how many disabled Veterans are on the streets without anything to eat. I do, I pack sack lunches for them on a monthly basis. Let no soldier go unloved or unfed!
I've been a member of Soldiers' Angels for many years and I'm honored to be a part of a group that gives tirelessly to the men and women who protect us. This is a group that provides support for our soldiers, sailors, and airmen and women and also our veterans.
Soldiers' Angels is amazing! While 2013 was bumpy, the organization is back on track and doing more work than ever! I'm so happy to see all of the support getting to the deployed soldiers and especially the veterans all over the country!
This is the first organization I've been with in a long time that allows volunteers to serve clients directly so you know your money and time is making a difference!
I am a 21 year Veteran of the US Army service in 2 Combat zones and last assignment was at LandStuhl Germany. Thats where I met Soldier Angels. I saw how this organization touched the lives of Our Service members in need. In 2008 I joined the VA and reached out to Soldier Angels for items that were quickly sent to support the needs of OUR VETERANS! Since moving to LR and assuming the Role as VS Chief in a Large multi facility VA, its organizations liek SA that have helped to meet the needs of OUR Veterans! Without their Support Our Veterans may not recvieve items that are much needed! Thank you SA and as a donor of SA through CFC, I know how importatnt it is t support thsoe who support Veterans!!!
Michael Dobbs, Chief VS Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System!
I've worked with three VA hospitals and Soldiers Angels have provided valuable donated resources of time and treasure at all three. They are active in VA Veteran recognition events, outreach events, and host their own special events to celebrate Veterans. They recently provided a donation of over $80,000 in Girl Scout cookies! Can't say enough good about SA - they're a small organization but do big things.
Soldier's Angels is and oustanding organization that does nothing but good! Their ability to help Sodleirs forward deployed plays a huge role in raising morale and helping Soldiers make it througn deployment. I reccommend it to everyone of my Soldiers and will always be in the debt of the people who supported me!
The care packages received are, to put it plainly, timely relevant and well used by the Soldiers in my Battalion!!! This service/organization is a priceless benefit to our morale and welfare.
Soldiers' Angels has given the youth of our Catholic parish community an outlet to express gratitude, love and prayerful support to those serving our country overseas! Thanks to all the leaders of Soldiers' Angels for their dedication and faithfulness to caring for our service men and women and their families!
Soldiers' Angels has been very supportive of our VA Medical Center! They have supplied us with clothing, back packs, cookies, makeup, coffee and the list goes on and on. We just can't thank them enough. Even though, we currently don't have a representative in our area, they are still reaching out to us and providing items that are needed in our efforts to serve our American heroes -- our Veterans! Several years ago, we had been trying to spruce up our children's play area and we had listed some items that were needed on our "Wish List." Soldiers' Angels contacted me and wanted to contribute to our needs. Not only did they agree to help purchase an awesome table with chairs, but they had it delivered to us. We were so excited for it worked perfectly! Thank you Soldiers' Angels for all your've done in the past and future! We can't thank you enough!!!!!
I am a donor, volunteer and soon to be board member of this organization. I am so happy to see the organization professionalized and finally getting corporate standards in place! SA went from about to close to a very bright long term future!
I am so sad that this wonderful vets organization has fallen into the corporate mindset, employing highly paid fundraisers instead of putting donations directly in the hands of soldiers, and hiring a president who was fired from her last job. I was so impressed with the original founders dedication and her acceptance of a salary of $1 per year.
I do understand that as an organization grows there are growing administrative needs, but really the needs of our vets should come before staff salaries. The last straw was asking volunteers to pay for the privilege of volunteering. I, as a senior on a fixed income, gave of my time instead of money, apparently that wasn't enough. Now they demand a nominal, but nonetheless additional monetary donation. I will be seeking out another of many veteran support organizations to volunteer with. Patti your dream was so wonderful..... to bad you have given in to the corporate mentality and are willing to see thousand of donated monies go to fundraisers and administrator instead of to the troops. Especially now when there are thousands and thousands of vets who have returned home with permanent needs that will require far more than a card or package to be met.
I am so very, very disappointed. From the original vision in 2003 which was so personal and so selfless, now I am afraid the mission has taken a back seat to the desire for corporate growth.
I am so happy Soldiers' Angels is focusing efforts on VA support! The veterans really need it. While we appreciate the support to Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, the veterans of other generations are often forgotten. Soldiers' Angels is now serving them and working closely with the VA's to ensure they are appreciated and taken care of. Thank you Soldiers' Angels!
SA is a great organization. Although they do have a minimum $1 fee it's to validate identity to ensure people aren't using aliases. Apparently there were many people wanting deployed soldiers information and using it as a dating service. The new reports and other things implemented have been a pain but knowing why they do it, it's all for the good of the troops.
I have adopted my last soldier. My 8th & last. First I had to pay for the privilege to volunteer. Which meant money spent to line their pockets, was not going toward to people they are suposed to help. And then there were the threatening and rude emails. They seem to like to threaten to take away your soldier if you don 't do what they want. I had know idea about reports to be sent in, & I received one of these emails. From the very first line it was completely inappropriate. I used to think that this organization had heart....but it now seems that "heart " has withered on the vine.
I started out as a volunteer with Soldiers' Angels a decade ago and have witnessed some amazing acts of kindness, compassion, and generosity from this organization. They have filled needs for the deployed that no other organization have and are spearheading new programs for the veterans at home. A wonderful group to be a part of!

I love this organization. Soldiers' Angels provides aid and comfort to all soldiers, veterans, and caregivers. They help everyone not just post 9/11. "May No Soldiers Go Unloved" is my favorite saying.
Soldiers Angels is a very productive non-profit. They take care of the things that people take for granted. Things that help make the lives of our Wounded Vets feel loved and feel as if they are living the life they are used to, the closest to "normal". Not only do they assist at home, they support our troops deployed and living away from home with things like cards, candy and the small things they miss while they are deployed. Soldiers Angels is an organization of true Angels taking care of everything.

I have been with Soldiers' Angels since March 2007. It has been the most rewarding thing I could have ever done. I have been able to participate on many of the different teams. I really enjoy the well rounded type of support that SA gives. No matter what your interests are or where your talents may be, there is a place for you. I believe that the recent changes within SA are needed, with growth comes change and change is not a bad thing.

I love volunteering for Soldiers' Angels! I love serving veterans and their families. There is no better way to do it than through Soldiers' Angels
Review from Guidestar
I have been with Soldiers' Angels for going on 6 years and it never ceases to amaze me! I have had a lot of fun supporting many soldiers and have gotten my young nephews involved in helping me with the task of coloring pictures and making mail for our soldiers as well. There is a $1 fee per month that some were not happy about, but this $1 fee is just fine with me. It goes to help fund the organization and if I can do without 1 soda a week to help send a care package to a soldier or to help keep our site up and running then so be it! It is also a good reminder to hold people accountable to actually make sure they are using the site productively. Standard Operating Procedures have now been put in place that better explains what our roles are in each group. Soldiers, Veterans, and their families are supported. I am really excited about a new group called Women of Valor that supports Female Caregivers. The caregiver I am supporting is very depressed and my cards and care packages are what help her get through each day as she fights to support a husband that was injured fighting for our country. There are also the many soldiers who write back through mail and email that are so glad to have a kind word because they have no other support from home. Soldiers Angels is a family that takes care of people who may be abandoned otherwise so I am so proud to be a volunteer with such an amazing organization. It brightens my day to know that I can support those who are supporting me with their sacrifices and hard work!
It has been amazing what a little organization can do. It has been a pleasure to work with the teams and gain an understanding of the vision. Change is hard but there are ideas and plans for long term growth in place. It is an honor to see people who have served, realize that they do matter!
I was a volunteer with SA until all of Patti's crazy stuff started. Deleting posts on the SA facebook site, because she didn't agree with what was said. I posted and asked questions, and I was deleted within 5 minutes, and banded from the site. Also with the $1.00 per month for the 175,000 volunteer angels, was way out of line. SA wanted to have your credit card info on file, so they could charge every month. Or you could pay for the year in full. With all of this happening SA has lost a host of many volunteers that were making a difference in a soldiers life while being deployed. The last time I looked at the SA website, there were over 1600 soldiers waiting to be adopted for some help. If Patti and her crew, hadn't been so very mean and spiteful these soldiers would be adopted and receiving the support and love.

I was a volunteer with this organization for several years. I was on the Letter Writing Team, the Chaplain Support Team and had adopted soldiers whom I spent thousands of dollars on, not to mention hours of love and support. Then Ms. Patton-Bader wants to charge $1 from 175,000 people? Supposedly to weed through and eliminate those who are inactive. She disrespected and treated her thousands of active volunteers with absolutely no regard. Her website she still quotes Soldiers Angels as having over 175,000 volunteers. If she had that many volunteers - she wouldn't have over 1,600 soldiers waiting to be adopted. A week before she made the $1 "donation" MANDATORY, she sent out emails begging for $30,000 for postage so they could mail out care packages that were sitting in the warehouse waiting to be mailed because she didn't have postage money. Then after many of us were ousted because we voiced our concerns and opinions - we were INVOLUNTARILY blocked from any and all forums, teams, etc. She "ousted" me - then had the nerve to send me a letter asking for a $250 donation? She has a "special" donor who will match donations at January 5. Who is this special donor? Those that are "Team Leaders" who have been team leaders for years who are having to undergo background checks in order to remain as Team Leaders? WTF???? And at this point - who believes anything she has to say - she is far from credible. Most of her "testimonials" are YEARS old. She is shady - she always has an excuse - not an answer. She is in way over her head and doesn't have a clue about running a non-prof. She has destroyed it. She has destroyed the spirit of volunteerism. Nepotism runs rampant within her organizational structure. She does not list her paid corporate employees on her official website. Those have been removed. This woman and her shady staff throw up smoke screens at every opportunity; they are not forthcoming in the least. Noone should have to pay to volunteer, and if you are not getting the kind of donations in order to retain your non-prof status - then you are obviously mis-managing your organization. She's quick to place the blame; doesn't want to hear any opinion that doesn't agree with her convoluted way of thinking. The truly sad thing is that she has HURT SOOOOO MANY volunteers and the ones to truly suffer are the soldiers that were being extremely well taken care of by her army of volunteers. Good luck Ms Patton-Bader .... you're going to need it because your organization is imploding. I am glad to be out. I want to retain my credibility and reputation among the other angels, volunteer organizations and most importantly the troops.
I love the idea of Soldiers' Angels. I was a verified angel. I had a soldier to whom I was sending letters and packages this fall. I don't recall receiving any emails requesting money to continue being an angel. All of a sudden, packages and letters I sent were being returned without explanation. When I tried to sign onto their website to find out what was going on, I had been blocked. It turned out that it was because I hadn't paid them. Well, I can't pay when I don't know there's a fee. They didn't even have the courtesy to contact me to tell me that they assigned my soldier to someone else. All that money and time I spent on packages and cards...down the drain. Their reasoning for the fee is to weed out people who are looking for relationships. I reluctantly paid the fee and have been assigned a new soldier. I was only willing to do this because my daughter wanted to help soldiers and we're doing this together. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't do this again. The way they handled things left a nasty taste in my mouth. It was unprofessional. Yesterday, I received an email about being part of a "team" that I didn't know I was part of. I had never received any emails from a team leader. Today I received a letter from her demanding that forms be completed and sent back in less than 24 hours. I do enough for them! I'm not filling out some useless forms so that they can brag to who knows who about how many letters and packages are sent to soldiers, and how much money I've spent on the packages. It's ridiculous and insulting. I am so done! I will happily spend my time volunteering for an organization that appreciates and respects me.
To the lady that loves SA, great. Just think about the 175,000, yes 3 zeros!, x $1.00 a month manatory
payment x 12 months and then check out their website and click on Financials and see how much these
people are paying themselves.
I volunteered and did what ever I could to support our troops. And the soldier(s) appreciated what I did.
I didn't do it for Patti and was suspended from SA when I joined another group. Which basically told me that I could only donate to Patti's cause.
They are now charging you to be a volunteer after you already pay to send your own care packages, postage, and time. and they also have Amy Palmer helping them with finances who was co founder of operation home front and was recently fired when $36K of goods that was suppose to go to military families went missing. NO volunteer should have to pay. I have been a member since 2006 and now no more.
I started with this organization several years ago and have enjoyed writting to our men and women serving overseas. It is sad to see this "non-profit" organization decide to charge volunteers $12/year to volunteer. If you do not pay the fees, you are removed. Very sad.

WOW ...what not to say about this great non profit...started by a Mom... Patty Patton-Bader when her son was deployed. From that first group of ladies that helped write letters and send packages to deployed....the ranks of volunteers have grown from all over the world. I had adopted 8-10 deployed soldiers over the years...have sent 100's of signed xmas cards for the stockings, sent many one time boxes until a soldier would be adopted by his own angel. This non profit is 150% for our deployed, their families and our wonderful veterans. I now help at the local VA to get much needed personal hygiene items, cards, small gifts, etc for our Veterans. Would highly recommend anyone that wants to help the veterans...to try this group.
I have "adopted" two soldiers through Soldier's Angels, and organized groups to write letters to soldiers to show them our appreciation. This organization is effective and provides many people with ideas and resources to get involved.
This is a great organization to work with. I have enjoyed my time helping our soldiers. My family has also signed up and we are participating as a family.
Soldiers Angels notifiy us of the pending problem with forward bases not getting a hot meal. Those who serve in these forward bases didn't even get breakfast. They provided a mailing address so people in the midwest could send them brekfast items to eat. They provide us information to be able to send packages or just kind words from Home to lift up their spirit. They are willing to help on the homefront to assistant Military families with all kinds of problems that they face. They are truly Soldiers Angels in time of need.

My wife and I got involved with Soldiers Angel's about ten years ago.Our son was a Marine and did three tours back-to-back in Iraq. As reitred US Army, I wanted to do something for the Troops that were in Iraq and Afganistan. I became involed with airport home comings and send off of the miltary from the Quad Cities. I also got involed with Funerals of local troops. The Soldiers Angels provided us with pins and coins to give to the Moms, Dads, Wifes, and anyone that was having a hard time handling the deployment. Our first funeral was a very young 19 year old MP. To allow us to be able to comfort her with a pin at the loss of their loved one. They help with send Christmas packages to the troops. They have assisted units when I would tell them no o9ne is sending them package. My son carried his Solders Angel pin during his deployment. At night, my wife and I would clucth our pins to our hearts and pray that Tim would be okay. Thank you Soldiers Angels for giving me a chance to help out our miltary and their familes.
This organization totally supports our troops, by sending letters, cards, care pkgs, and 100% total support. We are truly love what we do without question.
My son, SFC Richard J. Henkes II was KIA on 9-3-2006 in Mosul, Iraq. The first year I was overwhelmed with cards and letters from Soldier's Angels and was thankful for the messages of love I received. I was surprised the next year to receive continued letters and cards on my sons anniversary date of death. Again, to my amazement, I have received cards and letters from these wonderful volunteers every year for 10 years. When I receive a card from a Soldier's Angel, it makes me feel that someone is there thinking of me and my loss. I would never have rated them as low as I see on your website and I thank all of them for thinking of me and my son.
Review from CharityNavigator
Upon reviewing your rating of Soldiers' Angels I would conclude that the only reason that this charity is rated lower than others competing for similar causes is centered in 2 categories. The Pimary Revenue Growth and the Program Expenses Growth are both down significantly since the respective numbers of two years ago. Although this is an indication that they have not been successful in raising funds the numbers show that their efficiency has improved over this period. It is unknown if this was a strategic decision by the charity or not. In any event they had a perfect score in Transparency and when adjusted for the lower overall numbers this seems to be a fine charity. Most impressive is that the founder is not compensated at all! I will continue to give to this charity in spite of your mediocre rating and would suggest that those doing research on charities through Charity Navigator dig into the numbers and not just look at the "star rating" given.

I have been an angel with Soldiers angels for about 5 years now. I love this organization and what it stands for! Our motto says it all" may no soldier go unloved."
One day after seeing another Michigan soldier killed in action, I said to myself what can I do to help overseas? So I went to the internet and typed in helping soldiers and "Soldiers Angels' popped up. After reading about them, I decided to become an angel on the spot. I do not know anyone personally that is serving but I am thankful that I am able to do a little bit to maybe put a smile on someones elses face! I have adopted many of soldiers over the past 5 years and I am proud to be an Angel. I would recommend this organization to anyone and I have.
I have been a Soldiers' Angel for 8 years now, and I get giddy each and every time I get a piece of mail from one of the Heroes I have written to, sent a package, or even just said THANK YOU to!!! I cannot imagine NOT being an ANGEL and having the extended Soldiers' Angels Family behind me at all times!!! THIS is one of the BEST things I have ever done in my life!

I am a volunteer for Soldiers' Angels now for over 7 years...it is one of the BEST organizations for military support I have seen yet. I absolutely LOVE what we are able to accomplish through our organization, including taking care of our Veterans, Gold Star Families, Wounded Warriors, etc. THANK YOU for allowing me to give my review! Kim Wagner- Fall River, MA
Soldiers angels was started by Patti -Patton Bader when her son was in Iraq lacking necessary supplies. She started sending packages to his unit and friends got involved adopting soldiers and it has grown Nationwide. I have been a volunteer since 2006 and It's become my passion volunteer job. I am currently a State Capt. and Community Network Coordinator and oversee Vermont. There are so many teams and ways in which you can support our military and their families through this organization. Soldiers Angels has allowed us to support our local veterans and Guard soldiers who don't have a base large enough for support and housing. People tend to forget we have soldiers still fighting insurgents and dangerous situations around the world. Until they all come home we are here to support them, their families, and their pets.

I joined Soldiers Angels in September 2012. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have enjoyed every moment of it from writing letters to sending care packages. It is always exciting to walk to the mailbox and find a letter from my adopted soldier! My soldiers deployment will end soon and I definitely will be adopting another one. My soldier did say he would be deployed again soon and if I was able if I could still be his angel. So when he is deployed again he will continue to be my adopted soldier. I have had so much fun doing it and I will most definitely adopt more soldiers in the future. So far my experience with SA has been wonderful and I would recommend SA website to anyone who wants to be more involved with supporting our troops!
I adopted a solider last January. It is one of the BEST things I have ever done. Writing letters, and putting together packages was so much fun! You don't realize how many things you have sitting around that could come in handy or make another smile. For example, I sent my solider newspapers-keeping him up to date with the Summer Olympics. I sent magazines that family members had already read. Candy and snacks that I received as gifts...all went to my solider. My sister is a teacher and her class made cards for my solider :) I usually purchased items to put in the care packages...but I just wanted to give some examples of item that you have sitting around! Be creative: I made a fleece blanket for him, my mom made a christmas stocking which I sent. When I received a letter from my solider and I could not have been happier to know that he received the packages! I would HIGHLY recommend adopting a solider. My solider is coming home in December-I will be adopting a new solider! I was getting wrapped up in my own world....this was a good way to remind myself of the world around me. GO ADOPT A SOLIDER!!!
I joined Soldiers' Angels only 5 DAYS AGO! I wanted to do something to thank the brave men and women in the military who sacrifice so much. A friend told me about Soldiers' Angels and after reading about them online, I realized it was exactly what I was looking for. So... I became a lifetime member, was given a mentor who answered all of my questions and adopted a soldier who has 2 care packages being sent through the online Angels store. I then emailed him to let him know that care packages were on its way and wanted him to be more specific about things he really needed. I received a reply the next day with his special needs and a huge thank you to this organization! He went on to say, "Military deployments are hard on us and our families at home as well. I am so happy there are places and people we can reach out to bring a little more comfort to our job out here. Thank you for your caring support and prayers." I dropped to my knees and cried. This American Hero was thanking us when he was the one who deserved all the thanks! Needless to say...a third care package with his specific needs was sent out today and I will keep him and his family in my prayers until he returns home. I became so fired up that I joined the letter writing team and will begin next week writing letters to soldiers so they know we are here to support them through out their deployment AND when they return home. Last but not least I signed up to adopt-a-family for the holidays. I can't wait to receive my family's wish list and shower them with love. Yes! All of this has happened in only 5 days!! I can't wait to become more involved and have more heartfelt stories to tell. For now...I am so grateful to have found Soldier's Angels so that when I rest my head at night I know this organization with all its volunteers will make sure no soldier feels unloved.
I've been a member of Soldiers' Angels since 2004 when our oldest son was deployed the first time. He's presently on his 3rd. His first two were really hard deployments and what Soldiers' Angels did for him and his unit was just amazing. I will be forever in their debt. I have been a member of several teams and adopted numerous soldiers during my time with SA. I've been the team leader for the "Evoice Team" since it's inception. I've come in contact with may people over the years from donars, volunteers, members, and soldiers, sailors, airmen, mariens, and coast guard SA supports them all. They are of course only as good as the volunteers that run the orgnaization and the amount of donations they receive but even in the hard times SA finds a way to show the military that they are loved. God Bless Soldiers Angels. MikeS.
I remember when I was deployed to Iraq in 2004, Soldiers' Angels sent me care packages. Being more than three thousand miles away from home, it was really nice for an organization to show someone they cared. I had two angels while on my deployment and will never forget the things they did for me. I truly do appreciate all they are doing and have done for me. Thanks a lot.
This is a very rewarding cause supporting our deployed military. You may think you are helping a military member but the rewards you get in return are amazing
I learned about Soldier's Angels when my son died in Iraq in 2011. Members of their card team send our family cards and letters to encourage us through those difficult days after the funeral. I wanted to do something to honor the memory of my son so I decided to adopt several soldiers through Soldier's Angels. I write my adopted soldiers and Marines upbeat letters and emails --plus I send them monthly care packages. I want each of them to know that people back home think about them and we appreciate their sacrifice to serve in our country's military. I am glad I am a Soldier's Angel and I hope to keep "angeling" as long as there are soldeirs we can adopt!
I have been fortunate to be a Soldiers Angel now for quite a few years. Through soldiers I have written, families that I acted as the Christmas Angel and adopted soldiers I have sent packages to -each is so appreciative of the recognition and assistance that it is humbling. I am the one who is impressed with their sacrafices and those of their families. I have completely enjoyed my experience with this charity and look forward to being touched by so many more. Thank you Soldiers Angels for giving me the opportunity to give back!
I've been a Soldier's Angel for a little over a year. I started out adopting a soldier, then I joined the letter-writing team. Since then I've volunteered at a homecoming, deployment, toys for tots, baby shower for military moms, National Guard drill, etc. Every Angel I've met has been so dedicated that they inspire me to want to do more. The reputation of Soldier's Angels is very good and so very well-deserved. I have a number of pen-pals who are deployed service members I've written to as part of the LWT, who've written back to tell me how they got heard about Soldier's Angels. They always talk about a battle buddy who got a package, a card, a letter and so they signed up as well. some were just looking around the internet and didn't really expect anything to come of it when they signed-up and suddenly they're adopted, remembered and supported. When the call goes out Soldier's Angels answers, and answers the need big time. I've seen it time and time again. I am proud to wear my Soldier's Angels shirt and "advertise". This is an excellent organization who has stayed true to its goal and stated mission.
Barbara I understand your fustrations but there is no reason for the organization to open their books to you when it is online already. Additionally if you read the reasons as to why we received the low ratings you might have a different opinion of Soldiers' Angels. They are a true non-profit whose CEO does not take a commission. Look at WWP or Operation Homefront, they are reaping the benefits from exploiting Veterans and are not supporting as many Veterans and Service members that Soldiers' Angels is supporting. Its a shame that people like you look at money as the determining factor on how a great an organization is instead of the work it actually succeeds in completing. Basically your mis-informed and under educated on this issue.
I'm also a donor. I've been involved with SA since about 2005, writing letters and sending packages, purchasing items through the Angel store, and donating money, plus other activities. When SA started getting poor ratings from the BBB, Charity Watch and Charity Navigator for business practices and finances, I watched with interest as to what their response would be. Instead of 'fessing up and promising to clean house or do better, SA's leadership has been hostile to anyone who questions them, preferring to wrap themselves in the US flag and claim anyone who'd dare challenge them doesn't love soldiers. They've been unprofessional, demeaning, and totally dodged the issue of financial misconduct. I'm done with them.

I am a 100% disabled veteran and due to the economy, my daughter and her three children have moved in with me. Last Christmas, they gave me an angel who literally brought tears to my eyes as we opened the packages! I am praying I can use them again this year as my situation has not changed. I was so impressed, grateful and appreciated each and every smile that came from my grandchildren's faces as they opened their gifts. Thank you so much for such a great Christmas and for not forgetting the veterans as well as the active troops!
I am an Angel and I have been volunteering for quite awhile. My life has been touched in many ways through this organization. I have many letters from the soldiers I have sent letters, birthday cards, and care packages. Through this organization I have helped many Marines, Sailors, Airmen, and Soldiers but in reality they have helped me more. Helping all these troops have helped me heal from the loss of a loved one. It keeps my spirits up and keeps me connected to the friends of my lost love one. FREE MAIL is the best type of mail. I have made many friends within the organization. The troops have become like family and you know you have made an impact in their life when they call you personally to let you know they are going to be a father. I have made friends with several military wives. I send directly from my house to them. It is a pleasure to belong to such a great organization. i have heard from most of my service members I have supported except for maybe two service members. Sometimes they do not have time to write while deployed but I receive thank you letters or post cards once they return home. I love being a Soldiers' Angel.
When my family needed help this group was the only ones willing to give us the help we needed! They truly are Angles!
I have been a volunteer for this wonderful organization since 2009. I have done several fundraisers, donation drives, and events. Everywhere I go in my Soldiers' Angels shirt, I am stopped by a veteran and THANKED for everything that we do. Soldiers' Angels is by far the greatest nonprofit for military that I know. They go above and beyond for our veterans, active duty, and their families.
Previous Stories
I have been an "Angel" for a little over 2 years now. As angels, we adopt deployed military men and women and send care packages and letters of support for them. But that isn't all we do.
This year, over the Fourth of July weekend, I got the honor of coordinating a table in the famous Luckenbach, Texas to spread the word about Soldiers' Angels. Over a 3 day period, I met hundreds of people that wrote their letters to any deployed hero, we laughed, cried and hugged for a constant 3 days.
A few stories that I will forever hold in my heart came from those three days. I met young men, that while they were deployed had an angel. They said those packages and letters meant the world to them. That no matter how horrible their day or week had been, their Angel mail always cheered them up.
I met a mother of a deployed Airmen. It was the first time in their life that they had been apart for her daughters upcoming birthday. I helped her add her daughter to the list to be adopted, and got permission to send her daughter some birthday cards. Well.... I ended up sending her a birthday in a box!
I also met the parents of an Army Ranger, he is currently on his 4th deployment. His 3rd deployment, he was injured by an IED blast. To say they were distraught, is understating it. We cried together for over an hour, and I promised to keep him in my prayers, and I have, and will forever.
Soldiers' Angels does more than adopt out our deployed military. They support the family left back home, they help wounded warriors by giving them laptops, and through Operation Harmony, help heal their souls.
I love being affiliated with such a wonderful organization. I do not do this for recognition, I never want anything back for volunteering. Hearing stories of how happy our heros are to receive our packages is all the thanks I need.
Soldiers' Angels is also very supportive of their volunteers. We get the help we need to spread the word, and gather more angels. Wingtip to Wingtip!
I discovered this charity through a retweet by Leah Remini. It took me a few days to give it a try. I'm so glad I did. The work Soldier's Angels does is so worthwhile. I am very proud to bring some comfort to our soldiers. They make the whole process very easy. Also their store is a great easy eat to send a care package. I highly recommend Soldier's Angels to anyone who wants to help our service men and women.
Not only am I a volunteer of Soldiers Angels, but I myself am a proud Army Wife. My husband has told me stories of soldiers who receive no letters, no care packages, no love or support from their friends and family. Sometimes, these poor men and women don't have the family or friends to show their support, so it makes them feel even more alone in an unfamiliar state or sometimes foreign country. Some men and women silently suffer, while others make the devastating decision of taking their own life. They would rather die than be secluded and alone. Soldiers Angels provide our men and women serving our country with that love and support, that friendship, an ear for listening. To know they have someone who is thinking of them, praying for them, be there for them in any way at the drop of the hat, makes them feel loved, wanted and needed (and they truly are!). Soldiers Angels is a wonderful organization doing tremendous things for these men and women fighting for our country. I'm so proud to call myself an Angel :).
My husband was deployed last year. His angel was amazing. She sent him books and so many things to keep him busy. She touched me the most when she never forgot about me as the spouse and always emailed to make sure i was ok and if i need to even just talk. To us, that is the true definition of an angel. Thank you SA for creating something that is so important when we are away from our loved ones. You all will never know how much you really touch our families hearts every single day.
Soldiers Angels not only helps spread the word about getting care pkgs and programs to men and women serving our country to show our support and thanks, but also have programs for those who have served like older vets, new vets, and wounded vets. It's not just about Christmas care pkgs when everyone is thinking of them but letters during the lonely times away from family and between holidays to let them know they are supported back home and someone cares. After a long day fighting and rep the USA, they deserve a marching band but I know I can provide a letter to say Thank you or a pkg of fav cookies or even toothpaste (no corner store in those rocky mtns) with the help of Soldiers Angels. Don't think you can get anymore American than Red, White, and Blue to the heart of Soldiers Angels! As a vol through Soldiers Angels, I get to personally thank soldiers on the ground for all they do through SA Letter Writing Team. I also personally adopted a soldier through SA, putting a face behind the letters and boxes he receives from my family. Then there are the prog getting laptops to wounded soldiers in Hosp, Babyshowers for wives at home while the Dad's to be are serving overseas, and the list goes on ...
This organization is absolutely amazing in what they do. I have several friends and family members in the military. Some of them have received care packages and letters of support from members of the Soldiers' Angels, and they have repeatedly told me how helpful it was to them while they were so far from home. It is because of them that I joined the Soldiers' Angels myself in hopes to spread that same level of appreciation and support to other members of the military, especially those who may not have as much support from home. I actually heard back from some of those to whom I had sent letters telling me how much it meant to them to know they had my support and appreciation. Soldiers' Angels continues to do incredible things for the men and women of our military, and I am proud to say I volunteer through them.
My name is Robert Trickle and I am a Ranger from 3rd Ranger Bn. I just want to say that Soldiers' Angels is an awesome organization and I hope everyone supports them cause they sure do support us in the fight. I have been deployed 4 times to Iraq and Afghanistan during my career and each time we received tons of support and care packages from Soldiers' Angels. They definitely made a difference and boosted the morale in the younger generation. I hope everyone takes the word of a Ranger and gets out their to show their support. Thank you Soldiers' Angels.

Review from CharityNavigator
I joined Soldiers' Angels about 4 years ago, maybe 5. I'd heard about it from a blog I was reading at the time and their mission to bring a piece of home to deployed soldiers through letters and care packages intrigued me. I checked out their website, read up on their organization, then put it under prayer to God. If I was going to do this, I needed to be sure I could fully commit myself to sending letters and care packages to the soldier I adopted. As they point out on the Soldiers' Angels site, this is serious business. After many months, I was sure that I would be able to support a soldier through my letters and packages. I can say that I've loved every single minute of my volunteer time with Soldiers' Angels. I've never needed them, but I know that if I had questions or needed support, someone from Soldiers' Angels would be there for me. They've grown and adapted over the years I've been with them, and they only seem to get better. I only wish I could afford to do more to support their efforts to uplift our military men and women and their families. As for what I've gotten out of my experiences...well, words aren't adequate to describe how much I've received by volunteering and by serving those who serve our country. When I sit down to write a letter, I give a piece of myself and my little life to a stranger, hoping it will take them out of their day for just a few moments. Perhaps bring a smile to their day. Having to stop and really look at my life every time I write to my soldier, it makes me see how blessed I am and how much God pours out his love for me. How could I not share those riches with someone who's far from their own family and friends? Since volunteering with Soldiers' Angels, I've found it's imossible to stay mired down in self-pity or self-absorption when I know my adoptee has given up more than I've ever been asked to give up...and they volunteered to do so. Soldiers' Angels has provided me with the priecless opportunity to serve those who serve all of us in this great nation. I can never thank them enough for allowing me this time to do my tiny part in giving back to our military.
To be a member of Soldiers' Angels is something I regard with great pride. To see the good things that are done by this organization is so up lifting. The lives that are touched count in very high numbers. While we are sometimes able to see the thanks in peoples eyes as they are being assisted, so many times our actions are felt in places very far from home. To be at an event and have someone come up and thank you for what they received while deployed, or a family member of a lost soldier coming up and thanking you for all Soldiers' Angels means to them, really makes your heart swell. If you have a love and respect for our military members, then you should also check out Soldiers' Angels. You may do so at www.soldiersangels.org.
Soldiers Angels has many programs to benefit the military and their families, and also veterans. My first experience with the group was when I adopted a deployed soldiers through them. I was able to send cards and packages and it made me feel good to be able to help a soldier who is so far from home. Soldiers Angels has many groups and projects where you can donate. If you can't adopt a solider, then you can use your talents to do some great work. I especially like the sewing team. I am aking a quilt to send and also have made a crocheted blanket of gratitude for a veteran in a VA hospital. Crocheting and knitting is part of the sewing team. It enables me to do my part in giving back and it warms my heart to be able to do so.
Soldiers Angels has been such a blessing to me. I don't personally know anyone in the military but through this organization I have been able to adopt over 14 new friends since 2008. I have a heart for making sure our deployed know that they are remembered, loved and appreciated! Soldiers Angels makes it so easy.
I recently participated in a local festival. The guy in the booth next to me was doing so much bragging about our organization, that I didn't have to do much. It seems a friend of his had bragged about how much his Angel had done to get him through his deployment - even flying to meet him when he returned home.
These guys are so special and appreciate everything we do - we have to force them to tell us if there is any special wants or needs. Also important is that I have always had whatever support I neede from the organization. For our leadership in Patti to local SA's - if I need anything - they are there to help me.
Soldiers Angels - the nonprofit with heart and integrity...May no soldier go unloved!!!
I have been a part of this wonderful group for 5 or so years. I first joined to send care packages to someone since everyone that I knew who was deployed already came home. This has been on of the best things that I have ever done! Because of Soldiers' Angels I have met great honest people that would give you the shirt off their backs if you needed it. I have had wonderful opportunities to help not only our deployed military aboard, but the homeless veterans for the last three years we have volunteered with the local VA hospital to help with their Stand Down as well as given them donations, If you are looking for a great way to support our troops both active and our veterans this program is one of the best!
The angels are amazing! I was in desprate need of a double stroller after a long complicated pregnancy, and they totally pulled threw! I can't thank them enough for all they have done, they are some amazing people who spend there extra time doing great things for others!
I have been adopting soldiers and making Blankets of Belief and Blankets of Hope for about 4 years. I got involved with Soldiers Angels during my son-in-law's first deployment to Iraq.
I looked at several Soldiers aide organizations and really liked all that I saw on the Soldiers' Angels website.
Two years ago my adopted soldier was a 24 year old female. After having several adopted "sons" who communicated minimally, imagine my delight when I immediately received an email from "S", starting out "Hi, Mom! I'm so excited to be adopted by you"!
We corresponded regularly, through email and Facebook. She was a darling Iraqi national serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq. Since she could not go home for her leave, due to security issues, she came to the US and spent a week with my family. We had a wonderful time getting to know her and showing her around our city. I learned so much about life in Iraq and what it's like to live in a war-torn country. She became a US citizen on July 4, 2010.
I still hear from her now and then, as we are still on Facebook, but meeting her enriched the lives of my family and me.
My son-in-law was also adopted by a family, who kept in contact with my daughter and showered her and the children with gifts and cards the whole 15 months he was away. This meant so much to them as they were 2500 miles from home and family.
I am grateful to Soldiers Angels and their wonderful ministry.
Soldiers' Angels has made such a difference in my life. When the war first started I was looking for some way to help. Then I found SA. When I first joined I was not very involved. I had one soldier that I adopted and that was it. Then I started to read the forum and realized what they were going through and how they were living so I adopted two more. Three is the limit so I started looking for other ways to help. I became involved with other parts of the group. I joined the Living Legends team. I make cards and send them to the families that have lost loved ones. I found a poem and a beautiful picture so I made post cards and I enclose them in each letter. I have received so many thank you cards back from the families saying the card/poem helped them so much. I shed tears when the cards go out and even more when the thank yous come back. This has made me appreciate those I love so much more knowing they are close to home and safe because others have volunteered to go fight for all of us. I joined the Deployed Medical Support Team and I make blankets and pillows to send them so those that are injured can be a little more comfortable. A little piece of my heart goes with everything I send over. I also joined the Chaplain Support Team and have become a co-leader with it. I have tried to learn a little about all the religions that our chaplains support so I can better understand what they need. I have learned to ask for things that our heroes can use. So many people want to help and just don't know how to and I understand because that is exactly where I started. I have had many heroes over the years. Some I heard from and some were silent but I hope that I have made a difference in their lives because I know they have made a difference in mine. I have received letters from some that wrote after they came home and said we make such a difference while they are over there, just knowing they aren't forgotten and that they are appreciated. I try to let them know that they are loved and prayed for and that they are truly America's Heroes. We are the only country that has a 100% volunteer military and they do this for all of us.
I have been involved with many support organizations and most of it with our wounded warriors not only in supporting them but also public awareness of our heroes coming home. Soldiers Angels has not only done a lot for the wounded and their families but also those deployed and their families. As a First Sergeant deployed to Taji, Iraq they ensure not only I but those in my unit were taken care of and felt the love from home. When i arrived in country I had several large boxes waiting my arrival and this was after asking that they not worry about me. TO my surprise and pleasure of our folks we had a new coffee maker, mugs, coffee, sugar and various creamers. No more did I see my folks grabbing a cup of coffee to go from the DFAC; but rather folks waiting for me to fire up the coffee maker and get fresh ground coffee; no doubt we were spoiled by the love from Soldiers Angels.
I was adopted personally and the cards and letters made a huge impact of my moral but even more I posted them in my office and folks would come in just to read a card or look at the pictures various schools had sent. To say that SA made an impact would be an understatement. Care packages with letters, magazines, toiletries, and lots of snacks made it not only bearable for me and the troops but also for those that we were there advising and training.
One angle (volunteer) actually went to visit my grandmother that was in a nursing home outside of San Fransisco. They became friends and although I could not be there for the passing of my grandmother, this Angle was her friend and took care of her until she passed away. My daughter received cards and letters while I was deployed with words of encouragement while I was away but also letting her know how much her sacrifices were also appreciated. I know my family is not alone and that Soldiers Angels does so much to reach out to so many and their families, they do this without asking for anything back.
Patti and Jeff as well as everyone at Soldiers Angels have become family and I do all I can to give back when i am able. God Bless Soldiers Angels and all those that make a difference in the lives of our military families.

I joined Soldiers Angels close to 6 years ago. My oldest son & I got involved as a way to help repay the troops overseas for all the work they had done for us as a country and also to learn more about the war. I've met some incredible people from volunteering with them, not only in my state, but nationwide! We've adopted 7 different soldiers and sent care packages to them while they were overseas. We've also sent countless letters & done articles for our local papers to raise awareness. It was a great feeling when a couple of the solders replied to my son's letter and thanked him for all the work he was doing by supporting them. He's in college now and his younger siblings are involved with helping me volunteer now. We've made it a family event that all my children have learned from. This organization does amazing things to help support our troops in so many different ways, if you ever want to volunteer to help our troops, Soldiers Angels has a way that will fit your interest!!
I became part of the Soldier's Angels letter writing team in June. Since then I have written over 36 letters to soldiers and have sent at least 20 care packages. I wanted to "do" something for our deployed soldiers since they are so far from home. I enjoyed writing the letters so much that I have adopted a few soldiers. I write to them regularly and send care packages. I feel they are all part of my family and I pray they are safe. Soldier's Angels made it possible for me to support our troops.
My name is Karen Twombly. I recently stopped smoking after 23 years. So, I had a little extra money that I could do whatever with. I just didn't find anything that made me happy and feel really good about giving up smoking. But then I stumbled across Soldiers' Angels. I was so excited. I am very much in support of our troops. My husband is a Vet of Desert Strom. I absolutly love our soldiers. And like it was sent from heaven here was my thing I could feel good about. Be excitied about. I am new. I have only written a letter. But I am gathering things up for the first care package. I always wanted to be a part of the military but physically couldn't. Now I feel like I am doing a little something.
I followed Soldiers for Angels on Facebook for about a year before I joined. I was already sending boxes to several different Marines and Soldiers that were family or their friends. It breaks my heart to think that even one of our heros goes without any mail at all. One particular story tugged at my heart. A Marine Sniper on a joint billet with Soldiers in Iraq needed some TLC. 3 deployments and no mail. I thought long and hard about the commitment it would take. 1 letter per week and a box per month. Usually not a big deal, but I was already sending my Marine son in-law and his best friend boxes every couple of weeks as they are in a remote area with no access to purchase anything. So, after about 15 minutes, I accepted the offer of adopting this soul I will probably never meet. I sent him and email and had a reply the next morning. The joy he expressed when he received his first box was beyond what my heart could take. We email back and forth regularly. Within a few weeks, he told me that he had put my name and contact information on a piece of paper he keeps on him and on his computer. That document had the names and contact information of the people he wanted to be notified if anything happened to him. In his email after his first box, he told me that he didn't know how, but someday he would figure out a way to thank me. As a Mom, that was the way. Now instead of two daughters with Marine son in-laws, I have two daughters with Marine son in-laws and a Marine son.
Thank you Soldiers Angels. They have me for life.

I have been with Soldiers' Angels for 3 yrs. I have had the honor of helping our service men and women by writing them and sending them packages. Being able to help them have a bit of home, is a small part of the joy I get when sending a package. To pack up a Christmas tree and trimmings and send it to someone who LOVES to decorate at Christmas is a gift better then anything you can buy in the store. Knowing that all that is giving to Soldiers' Angels goes to the soldiers is great also. I can't image my life without them.
I have been a part of Soldiers Angels and Operation Top Knot almost since it's inception. I have a very personal reason for doing this. My husband was in the military during Vietnam. When he came home he was not treated very well. Anyone who puts their life on the line for our Country so we can enjoy our Freedom deserves our respect and admiration. Anyone who volunteers for this organization is working very hard. When we first started I think we might have had 3 pages of families. This has grown so much and we are helping a lot more families. I am proud to be a part of this organization. The only thing I would like to see is all the families on the website by the 1st weekend of the month. The weekends is the only time a lot of us can participate. All in all great job!!!!!
Soldiers Angels are definitely heaven sent! In 2009, I married the love of my life who decided to be an active duty soldier in the Army. His decision to serve meant I had to move away from everyone I knew and the only place I'd ever called home. After arriving to his (and my) first duty station, we discovered his unit had deployed to Afghanistan and he had to go. Then I found out that I was pregnant! So, there I was pregnant with my first child and alone in a new place with my husband in combat. I found out about Soldiers Angels and Operation Top Knot. As my son's birth neared, I received presents in the mail from complete strangers; some were even handmade! I couldn't believe the kindness that was showed to me. I find myself overcome with emotion when I think about this organization, the wonderful things they do and the amazing people that support them. There are so many programs that they have in place to support soldiers and their families. I wish that more people were aware of them. I look forward to being an angel to someone and giving the same joy that was given to me.
I'm an "expecting" spouse to a deployed solider with also a four year old. My husband will be gone for my whole pregnancy and hopefully make it back in time for our new arrival.
With this organization, my son and I had something to look forward too every time we checked the mail box. Whether it's beautiful gifts or just a touching letter showing support to my family during this tough time. Not only did they send us baby gifts but included gifts for my son to help him feel appreciated too. Thank you guys so much for everything you do. I know it's brought a smile to my face!
I have been a volunteer of Soldiers' Angels since 2006.
The organization is an amazing way to support our military, their families , or the wounded. It is the perfect portal to help, whether I have
Time to write a letter to a deployed troop, or send a care package. I can also send a baby item to expectant moms, or make a blanket for a wounded soldier. I can send a donation to support our music or Valor-IT programs (special laptops made specifically made to each need)for our returning wounded.
Soldiers' Angels has provided an enormous need for others to feel like regular people like myself can help in some way. They have allowed volunteers to help in our local communities, our state, and our country!
The Founder, Patti Bader, is an amazing example of love, generosity, perservance, and courage.
I was in elementary school when the US carried out Operation Desert Storm. At that stage in life, I was trying to figure out what things were real, and what were not. I remember thinking that the soldiers that went to combat had to have been fake, like giants or Teddy Ruxpin. Soldiers were just make-believe people. There was no way a REAL person would actually go to war for anything, much less for the sake of their country. Why would these "people" fight for me when they don't even know me???? Unfortunately, about a decade later I would learn just how real soldiers are. Along with the rest of my country, I was very devastated on Sept. 11, 2001, and heart broken when our country went to war. I had always felt indebted to our military, but this feeling of gratitude grew exponentially after that day. I thought about our deployed all the time. One fateful day in 2004 I was reading a magazine my mom had in her car. There was an article about an organization called "Soldiers' Angels." I thought, 'Hmmmm, that's a different name. Let's read on...' My life has never been the same since! I have always felt connected to our country's military, yet I had never known anyone in the wars and knew very few people in the military. I didn't know what an APO was nor a single thing about the military, but I knew this was my calling. Here I am seven years later and I am just as excited to be involved in Soldiers' Angels as I was back then. SA gives me the chance to feel connected to our military, despite my obvious lack of exposure to this magnificent institution. I have adopted soldiers through their adoption program. But SA doesn't stop there. Oh, no they don't! They have numerous teams for people to be involved in. For example, there are Angel Bakers that send baked treats to our troops. There is the Ladies of Liberty team that focuses on female soldiers. The sewing team makes pillowcases and blankets of love. The list is amazing! SA allows you to use your interests in ways to benefit our deployed. I have always thought the concept of having a pen pal was fun, but never followed through with my interest. Soldiers' Angels changed that for me! In April of 2005, I joined their Letter Writing Team. Every week I get an already adopted soldier to write to. These are soldiers that really appreciate their Angel that has adopted them through SA, but are feeling down and would like a little extra something to boost their spirit. That's where I come in. I send them a letter and make sure to thank them and remind them that their country has not forgot about them. I have sent hundreds of letters and it never gets old. It's one of the greatest opportunities I have ever had in m life. My favorite example that I like to show everyone is a soldier that wrote back. He sent me a beautiful Christmas card from Iraq, and told me he lived in the same town as me! What a small world! He thought maybe I was a member of his family's church sending him a package, but nope. It was just a weird coincidence. Through Soldiers' Angels, I have contacted US soldiers in my own neighborhood and soldiers who were originally born in other parts of the world, but we have one thing in common. We all love our country and are all very grateful for the folks at Soldiers Angels.
This organization does amazing things to help support our troops! When the soldiers that have been adopted correspond with us, they are overwhelmed with gratitude. It's not only the items we can send them, but it is amazing the emotional support that we can supply to a complete stranger. I am a better and stronger person because I joined this organization.
Did you know that, Soldiers Angels are actual "Angels", they put soldiers first, they give support to all of the men and women who serve or have served our country. You can be an Angel too, you can adopt a soldier and send them letters, packages and encouragement and thanks from you at home.
The Angels are support to the families of our heroes far away and those here at home. They do fundraising, host baby showers, send thousands of care packages to our soldiers, they are at bases when our heroes return home with tastes from home, goodies and refreshments to say hello and thank you! They give support to the wounded who return home to their families and they have dozens of teams making care packages, sewing blankets, making sand scarves, cooling scarves, and goodies, etc to send a little home to those away from home.
The Angels are there for each and every soldier who want or need help or support. They make a difference to the lives of our soldiers and military families.
I am proud of being a small part of Soldiers Angels and I will continue my support of our military families.
One last thing: Soldiers Angels "ROCK!
This by far is the worst charity i have ever been involved with. I sat in meetings where they talked about how much their pay checks where going to be Versus how much money they were spending on helping military families. Do not donate to this charity, especially not by the text to donate. The money does not go towards what you think it does.
While I was in Afghanistan, Soldiers' Angels sent me care packages for not only myself, but so that I could host events and a Christmas party to release some of the tension that we were encountering while we were living in our 3ft x 2ft personal area. When I came back, Soldiers' Angels had community events to help me to reintegrate into soceity. The love that they packed into each and every box that they sent me... It made me feel a little less alone in a country where alone was all anyone ever felt.
Soldiers' Angels has been such an important part of my life for the past two years. I volunteer to write condolence letters to gold star families and also weekly encouragement letters to deployed soldiers. I've adopted two soldiers to send packages to so far and the experience has been so gratifying. I have received letters back from some of the men and women I've written to and they are some of my most treasured possessions. As a military wife myself, I understand the need to feel like others are behind you and care about your loved one. It's easy to feel helpless when it comes to this war. This organization gives me a way to feel useful and supportive to our troops, even if I can't bring them all home! This is a wonderful organization and I recommend it to anyone who wants to show their care for the men and women of the armed forces and the families that are behind them.
I joined Soldier's Angel's at the beginning of 2011 because I wanted a way to show my support for our military men and women. I joined the Letter Writing Team and I have been writing letters to our soldiers. It makes me feel really good to know that the soldiers know that there are people that support them. Sometimes I get letters back thanking me for writing and it makes all of the time spent writing letters worth it.
My son had seen me send care packages to soldiers. He asked his Skills USA organization to collect items to donate to be sent to soldiers. In 2 weeks they collected 568 lbs of misc items! They brought the boxes to me & I divided the items between several friends that had adopted soldiers. This was such a rewarding experience to see these high school kids collect so much in such a short period of time. Lots of soldiers received packages filled with love!
The Soldiers' Angels organization is top notch. They step up to the plate and support every effort geared to our military and their loved ones. "No" or "Can't be done" is not in their vocabulary. Every waking moment of their lives is focused on our HEROES. Angels are among us, and this is it.......look no further. From the Founder to each and every one of their 100's of thousands of angels in the field, they are on the job. YOU can join the crusade and become an Angel. Please please go to their site and see what you might be able to do. Blessings to all!!
Being a Soldiers' Angel means to me, begin willing to answer the call. To answer, when a Soldier says "I'm loney, homesick and hurting", I am willing to say "I can help".
When I joined Soldiers' Angels I was looking to give back. My own father taught me what WW2 was like and that all looked for mail call. He recalled the time he got Limburger cheese in a shoebox It took two weeks to get that box.. It smelled horrible, and yet everyone wanted to have a taste... It was that little bit of home and a bit of food everyone knew. The box has not changed and the Soldier still loves to get Mail Call, but by being part of Soldiers' Angels we send boxes faster, know they are received, and the return is knowing we Angels make the day better for those who" DEFEND US EVERY DAY"
I started first with Soldiers' Angels on a team to give one box a month, but after meeting other Angels did my first full adoption. This is adopting one soldier and making a commitment to a letter a week a box or two a month. How exciting it got as I knew all the candy bars I sent this soldier enjoyed and shared. How humbled I was as my adopted Soldier only asked from toys and stuffed animals for the Children in the country he was in... He said"the children has so little here". Just like my own family I grew to knew and cheer when my Soldier was happy and give support when he felt lonely. A letter or a box is like having that hug from someone, or the blanket wrapped around... Simple things one box and yet so important. And when the Soldier comes home it is Angeling to give the pat on the back of welcome home and well done!
IT was 4 years before I joined as a Community Network Coordinator along with other CNC's to help guide those interested in Soldiers' Angels. The Tsunami Hit Japan within my first month and before I left for a trip to another state. Here I was a new CNC in front of cameras and asking people to give their time and talents to help our Angels in Japan. Still on the phone between other CNC Angels while waiting for my flights to see what more we could do to help the people of Japan with much needed boxes. All the time the Directors of Soldiers Angels assisted in what we could all help with.. What wonderful guidance they gave. When I did make it home we still had more work to be done. Memorials for Soldiers with Living Legends Team, Ice Cream socials at Veteran's Home, blankets to the Marines, cookies to the Army, and one more item.. Helping a drum hike walk to assist a man with a dog and a slugger bat signed by Governors of each state.... Now the Federal Day finally voted in on October 26, 2011 honoring "Day of the Deployed".... Each and every year.
For myself this Non Profit provides more for the soldier and connecting honorably and respectfully. Soldiers' Angels guards and protects each military need and reminds every Angel of the duty they hold to the Soldier and their Families. To our Soldier no matter what war or conflict they are or have been in they now know there are Angels who work hard to make sure they are loved and never forgotten. And like the box my own Army Dad got two weeks to get him, the new soldier miles from home get their own box at.... Mail Call ... and I can only feel my own Army Dad smile at me from above as a thanks for doing a good job taking care of the troops...... Thank you Patti Patton-Bader for creating a 501 (c) (3) www.soldiersangels.org for me to put into practice what my Army Dad taught me............. Diane CNC of Central Wisconsin.
I've been a Soldiers' Angel for ~4 years. The honor of serving our service members is a true blessing in my life. I love hearing back from my deployed adoptees and from the families of our unfortunate fallen heroes to whom we send notes of condolence and thanks. May no soldier every be made to feel like those who returned from Vietnam!
In effort to help my kids support out troops we adopted a soldier a few years ago. We sent letters, cards and gifts to support him while deployed. We were pared up with a wonderful soldier who shared everything with his unit. Upon his return he sent us the sweetest letter saying how excited the men and women were to receive gifts and cards from home. It really boosted moral and helped them know in a tangible way that they were not forgotten.
Since then my kids have moved on and over the years I have continued the project by adopting a new soldier myself every year. Soldier's Angels is making a real difference the lives of our deployed service men and women. They are always there to support the volunteers as well with current projects and support groups to guide you if you have questions or want to get further involved.
I really love this organization and what it stands for. I have gotten such good feedback from soldiers over the year and how much this has helped them in some very difficult times.
I have been a member of Soldiers' Angels and have actively worked with this organization. I have led many of their teams along with sending care packages to my adopted soldiers'. I had a Case Worked at the VA in Dallas who contacted me regarding a soldier who was in their mental unit and had his household goods in CA in a warehouse and no money to get it here. I made one phone call and it was quickly put in motion to help this young man. Soldiers' Angels helped his household items to not get auctioned off and a Angel from CA drove a truck with his items to here in Texas.
As a Volunteer I will never forget the look on the young man's face when his stuffed arrived with Angels and PGR present at his home. He has kept in touch with me since that time and is now a productive member of society.
This is just one of these kinds of missions that I have seen Soldiers' Angels take care of so that our Veterans don't have to worry about anything but getting well and readjusting to society.
Soldiers Angels is the most rewarding organization I have ever been envolved with...not only for the receipent but for the volunteer as well.
I have been so blessed with my association with Soldiers' Angels! I have made life long friends and have been touched by so many deployed Heroes! Our current and past Military Heroes deserve so much. They sacrifice and ask for so little in return. They need to know they are appreciated while they are deployed and when they get home. They represent bravery and courage and deserve to be taken care of! This is an all Volunteer Military. They Volunteer to put their life in front of mine so I can live a FREE and Secure life. My Heart belongs to all of those who serve. I was even asked to be the God Mother to one of my Adopted Hero's daughter. I have been truly blessed by my association with Soldiers' Angels!! Please join us!! This is a very well run organization by people who truly appreciate the Military in all aspects!

Soldiers' Angels has brought so much to my life. When I signed up over a year ago, I didn't know how profound an experience this would be. I have had 6 Official Adopted Heros and many, many more unofficials that I support. Our Military ask for so little, but deserve so much! Soldiers' Angels supports the US Military in so many aspects. We support Veterans, Wounded, Families and much more.
It is an honor and a privilege to step up and support those who put their lives in front of mine so I can live in FREEDOM!! This sacrifice will never go unnoticed!!

I 've been member since 2007. I have joined several teams and written letters and adopted Soldiers and supported different units with supplies, comfort items, and sewing things they cannot get through normal chains. my first Soldier is my best friend now and I am close to several of my past adopteds, I recently went to bangor maine from ma, to meet my Soldier when she came back from theater, It was glorious to be able to hug her in person and look into her eyes for real and not just photos. I also designed and sewed art banners for a chapel at FOB Orgun-E for the chaplains ast, there,. and ended up supporting him for the rest of his deplyment too, Now I have 2 official adopted female Army medical personel and 2" unofficial" that I just plain care about and take care of! I made recieving blankets for the hospital at FOB Orgun-E recently and they were needed for a birth shortly after, My soldier was shown with the baby aqnd new blanekts in a military news article! I was so proud of her! Now I am developing a connection with the hospital at Ft Campbell to provide Be=urial layettes for preemie and newborn loss, so i can help take care of Soldier's families in the darkest hours..and help the staff be able to offer something to help make it more tolerable and the last view of thier Angel be beautiful,, I credit Soldier's Angels directly with the openinmg of my heart to my Soldiers and thier families, and the awareness of all they need, I am so grateful for the encouragement of patti , the leader of Soldier's Anegls and the team leaders who empower me to listen to my heart and use my talents, for writing to a lonley woman far from her family, or sending a needed or little luxury to let her know that she is cared about, that someone on this earth KNOWS she is out there in the dark, putting HER LIFE on the line for ME! How can i NOT do what I can? It is a charity that looks after every part of a Soldiers life, from deployment to when he and she is a vet, if they are wounded, we are there, if they have a baby due, we are there, if they need a card or a cookie or someone to send clean underwear and a pat on the back, a joke or a quilt, we are there, and as a Band of Angels we are invincible, we support each other, our Soldiers, our country and we love doing it! and then ask,, is there any more we can do for you?,, I am a Soldier's Angel and i stand wingtip to wingtip with the best group of people in the world and we take care of our nations FINEST HEROES!!! thank you for letting me share this,,,,,,,,
I joined Soldiers' Angels five years ago as an angel, someone willing to adopt a soldier while he or she was deployed and send monthly care packages and letters. That's all I wanted, was one soldier. To date, I've adopted 15 and currently have four guys in Afghanistan and Kuwait. This work gives me the greatest fulfillment and I have been greatly blessed by the friendships I've maintained with several of my adoptees, one of whom I consider my son now. I've also become involved in local Colorado SA activities and am part of the Living Legacy team and write letters to families who've lost loved ones in these wars. Each fall for the past five years, a dozen friends and I hand make and write notes in more than 600 holiday cards which we send to SA for their Holidays for Heroes program. I also work with two local elementary schools to get their students to also write notes for my cards. And I'm constantly telling my friends and anyone who will listen about all the wonderful program SA has put in place to support our troops and their families. Nothing makes me happier than when a friend says she and her family have adopted a soldier.
The more I know about this organization, the more impressed I am. This is truly a grassroots group. Yes, there is a formal structure and a paid staff, but the work gets done because of the volunteers SA is able to recruit. The SA motto really says it all, "May no soldier go unloved." It's true. This isn't just a nice thing to say. When I talk with other angels, I feel the love they have for our military. There is nothing an angel wouldn't do to help a soldier; I truly believe this and this comes from the top down.
I am an AF veteran, so I have a brotherhood, or in my case, a sisterhood, with all those who wore and are still wearing the uniform. This tie has only increased because of my involvement with SA. I volunteer for a lot of things, but I'm most proud of and get the most meaning from my volunteer involvement with this group. I'm over 50 and am applying now to get my masters in Marriage and Family Counseling with post graduate work in Military Family Counseling. Without my involvement in SA, I don't think I would be at this place in my life now.

My family started adopting troops for care packages several years ago. I thought it was important for my young girls to experience the joy of giving back to someone we will never meet, just because they deserve it. Our troops are very important to my family and for all that they do we felt that a package a month, more during the holidays, was a great way to show them our appreciation. We have actually kept in touch with our last troop and his family even after another deployment. Soldiers' Angels gave us great ideas of things to put in the boxes, both things wanted and needed for our troop. I cannot say enough about this organization and all that they do. I'm sure the troops that have been affected by this organization would agree with the importance of their mission.
Soldiers Angels is a project of love and honor and loyalty and gratitude to the Men and Women who serve in our nations military forces. SA provides these brave Americans with support and hope and comfort and some laughs while they are away from home.
I have been a part of SA for about 8 years now and have a sense of pride that goes beyond what any other organization can give me.
7 yrs ago I 'adopted' a soldier, Anthony Diaz, thru SA. My family sent letters and care packages. We exchanged emails, letters and phone calls. I got to know Anthonys family and he got to know ours. Over time Anthony truely became one of my own kids. He calls me Mom2 and my daughters are all his 'sisters'. I had the privlidge of meeting my Son for the first time 5 yrs ago on a trip to PA. He drove with his mom and his daughter for 3 hours to meet me. (I was there on Vacation from CO.) Last year Anthony flew to Colorado to surpise his 'sister' for her HS graduation. I took her to NY/NJ for her grad trip and he was our gracious host. We were able to spend 5 days with him and his family. All who have claimed us as a part of them .
Without SA I would never have my Son. I am thankful for that. But mostly I am thankful for a way to support our Brave men and women, who often go unsupported, unrecognized and unthanked for the many sacrifices that they, and their families make every day. A letter and a care package are so little and unassuming...yet they can make the difference in the life of that Marine, Sailor, Airmen, or Soldier.
Being an "Angel" is the most rewarding and humbling experience. There are many opportunities through Soldiers' Angels to help. I'm mostly involved with adoptions. It's such a simply and easy thing, but means the world to the Soldiers. Send a card a week, and a package or two each month—what could be easier? Yet to the Soldiers, the "touch and taste of home" means everything.
Think for a moment. When you want a candy bar, or need some shampoo, or a cup of coffee, you just drive to the corner an pick it up. But for our Soldiers in the middle of "no where" that's not an option.
Soldiers' Angels provides encouragement and help to all our Military men and women (past and present) and their families. For more information visit their website and I'd highly recommend that join the Angel family—you'll be blessed!
My name is Melissa Garvin. I started with soldiers angels a little over five years ago. Before I became a volunteer, I was a recipient of all the love, support, and courage everyone in this organization has. My husband LCPL Edward M Garvin was k.I.a. the support they gave me during such a hard time was something I will never forget. They showed me with hundreds of cards, and letters of support. The shared there hearts, and kind words during the hardest time in my life. I still look back on the hard days at the cards they sent. They not only sent letters during the time but also sent me a braclet for my first christmas without him. On the braclet was bead with words of encouragement. A year after his death I also joined as a volunteer. The awareness they give to other about deployed, injured, left behind family members, and so much more. They make sure to not only care for the deployed soldier but to care for any soldier, or family member who needs it. There is not enough words to describe how thankful I am for everything they have done for me and my family. I am proud to be apart of something so much bigger then just a non profit organization. They literally help change peoples lives. There simply "angels", every single one of them.
I have adopted various soldiers from this organization. I have sent many many packages - many packages from their web site only to find out that the packages were never received. I sent three packages to myself... the first one was not received after 17 weeks... I emailed 6 times and was finally told they don't have that item anymore... although they were still selling it on their web site and still allowing you to "send" it to your soldier... the most recent was May 20... it was received... finally....after 11 emails asking where my order was... on July 26. I emailed my solders when I ordered a package so they would have the same information as to what was ordered and when... sand scarfs, cooling scarfs, phone cards, treats, nothing was ever received by any of my soldiers from orders I placed on their web site. Things I ordered took a very long time to get to me, if they got to me at all, and only after many emails asking about my order several weeks after expected delivery... I finally gave up and went with AdoptA Platoon.
Soldier's Angels is an AMAZING organization!! I have been a volunteer for over a year and just adopted my 3rd Soldier! My community leader used to come in to the Post Office where I work with bags and bags of toiletries and snacks and box them up to send. I would talk to her while she was boxing.. occassionally asking questions about the organization.. and then asking how to get involved. She is a true Angel.. and an inspiration. There is no better feeling than knowing you are helping one of those Soldiers get through a rough tour of duty.
My first Soldier was a 1st Lieutenant and this is part of a note I received from him at Christmas as he was preparing to go stateside for leave.
"The thought of leaving my troops at this time of great need has caused me a significant amount of stress in the last few weeks. Being the leader I am forced to swallow this stress and ensure it never makes it to the Soldiers. I was feeling quite overwhelmed when I came across your box this moring. The book called Be Inspired literally changed my day. I spent the better part of the morning reading the stories and quotes and instantly decided to stage a meeting. First I brought in all my team leaders and we discussed their feelings and thoughts about deployment thus far, we developed goals for the upcoming months and inspired a shared vision for our platoon in the future. We even picked a quote from the book to focus our platoon around, it reads like this "Empowered - Dig deep, Look within. It's all there inside you. Except sometimes...it's not. Everybody has days when all the diggin deep only turns up mud. And that's when you hand over the shovel. You reach out. You let somebody give you what you cannot mine yourself. We are strongest together, holding hands." I can honestly say this one quote changed the face of our platoon and I have you to thank for that. I am not sure why you chose to do what you do but I would encourage everyone to do it. One act of kindness changed the lives of 47 Soldiers and one lost LT. Thank you Carin, for just being you."
This note gives me chills to this day.. knowing that one small act helped to guide an entire Platoon. What small act can you find in yourself to help someone that is guaranteeing your freedoms??
This is a wonderful organization.
Upon my daughters request, while deployed to Afghanistan for 15 months, she received mail, cards and necessities, which made her feel less lonesome and appreciated.
Thank You!
The very first day that I heard about Soldiers' Angels I logged in to the website www.soldiersangels.org and adopted my first deployed serviceman. He was a sailor depolyed to Iraq. The commitment was to write a letter every week and send 1-2 care packages per month during deployment. Angels are informed to not expect to hear back, but I must say there is nothing better than a letter or email from your adoptee. Since then I have had the honor to support many soldiers, marines and my 1st special sailor.
In additon to "adoptions" Soldiers' Angels provided the opportunity to organize fund raisers and events for our wounded and veterans in our community. Rewarding - YES. One person can make a difference, but volunteering for this great organization makes it easier and creates even a greater impact.
I've been a volunteer with Soldiers' Angels since 2005 and have had the privilege of seeing the difference this unique organization has made in the lives of our deployed heroes, our nation's wounded and veteran heroes and their amazing families. What makes Soldiers' Angels special is that it gives volunteers opportunities to show their support for our military in very personalized ways. If you want to write letters of encouragement to a deployed, wounded or veteran hero, there's a team for that. If you want to sew sandscarves, coolscarves, blankets or pillowcases, there are teams for that. If you want to adopt a deployed service member to support with care packages during their deployement, there's a team for that. Soldiers' Angels also provides laptops to the wounded, backpacks with clothing and personal care items to the wounded and veterans, and other personalized assistance for our heroes and their families with dignity on an as needed basis.
In the last six years, I've been privileged to adopt over a dozen deployed Marines, Sailors and Soldiers and spent countless days representing Soldiers' Angels at fundraising and community outreach events in San Diego. It has also been my honor to spend time with recovering wounded heroes in Southern California and to hear their personal stories of how Soldiers' Angels provided for their needs while they were deployed, while they were hospitalized overseas and after they returned stateside.
My husband and I found Soldiers Angels about a year ago after sending a soldier a cup of coffee through Green Beans Coffee. We were so excited that we could share a cup of coffee with a service member in Kuwait, Iraq or Afghanistan, or wherever they might be stationed and it only cost $2.00 to send that cup. We wanted to do more and we saw that Soldiers Angels was there to help us to show our men and women how much we care about their service to our Country.
I am constantly impressed at the high standards Angels have in holding the confidentiality of the Service Member that is being helped.
We receive e-mails, sometimes several a month, from different soldiers telling us how much it meant to them while they were deployed to have our support and they tell us how our care packages helped the morale of a unit.
The encouragement and consistent help of other Angels will help us to continue to be there for our troops because our troops are there for us.

I've been a part of this charity for the past few years. My family and I send 6-10 letters a month to deployed soldiers as well as having an adopted soldier or 2 at any given time to whom we send care packages on a monthly basis. This has been a wonderful experiance for us. We have recieved numberous responses from our soldiers telling us how much they appreciate our packages as well as our letters of support. I love that my kids have gotten involved and they have been able to learn the importance of what our service people do for our country.

I have been involved with Soldiers' Angels for months now; coming from a family where both parents are verterans and almost all of your friends are serving you want to find a place where you can give back not only to those you know but to all others and their families who deal with this everyday. I am able to write not only the soldiers deployed but I get to send cards of encouragement, get well, welcome home, birthdays, etc to those serving our country and their families. Apart of OTK helping send baby stuff to the mothers who are getting ready to bring a baby into this world and doing what we can to help all of those and their families is such an amazing feeling. I have seen other non profit organizations but none of them compare to being a memeber of Soldiers' Angels and I am glad to be apart of this. I have had so many say thank you when I am the one to be thankful for everything they do. The other Angels are so polite and helpful that even though we're all around the world we're like one gigantic family doing all and more to help those who keep us and our country safe.

I am involved with sending get well cards to soldiers who are wounded. When i was in boot camp in 2007 i fell from the top bunk while getting down too fast an broke my tail bone. This was a very painfull injury and made it so that i had to stay on base for five months instead of eight weeks. While i was recoperating i recieved many get well cards through this orgaization and make sure that i pay it forward and send get well cards for inspiration to other soldiers, Thanks you to such a great organization.
It can be very confusing and heartbreaking when you desperately want to help and don't know where to turn. As a mother, I wanted to help those young people who are deployed and, for whatever reason, were not able to receive the packages and letters that are crucial for helping them get through the tough times. Soldier's Angels has not only set me up with soldiers to send fun and needed items to, but they have provided the opportunity to make blankets for the wounded as well. A charitable one-stop shop! Thanks to S.A. for your help. Beckie C.

I teach JROTC in High School, and found out about Soldiers Angels thru a students mother who is involved in the organization. Every year I train a group of students to run the Bataan Death March and Soldiers Angels donated money to help purchase shoes for them. In return, I took 15 students to the local Soldiers Angels warehouse to help one saturday. To say I was in awe of the undertaking what the organization does for military families is and understatement. My students immediately got to work cleaning, moving items and helping sort and stack packages. We stayed for six hours and we didn't want to leave. This organization helped me impart a sense of giving to students. Soldiers Angels is truly a no frills, help every soldier organization. They are true Angels, I have more students wanting to go and help, on weekends, how many is enough for helping?

My family has been involved with Soldiers' Angels for over 6 years. The organization is very helpful and well repected in our area. People in our area love to volunteer to help them out. The effort that is closest to our heart is the Blankets of hope. Our family has organized an annual event in our hometown of Bowie, Maryland for 5 years. The number of volunteers continues to grow as do the number of blankets. Last year we made 352 homemade blankets in just 8 hours to comfort injured warriors. Soldiers Angels has made it so easy to help them. The founder Patti Patton-Bader has always been available to assist with any questions. My husband has also been at Fisher House picnics where Soldiers' Angels gave out modified laptop computers to amputees, we have assisted in purchasing dress uniforms for Soldiers to attend their commanding officers funeral. The number of good things that Soldiers Angels does could never be covered in this review, but they are a wonderful organization full of people with big hearts, and even more patriotism than you can believe. Every year after our blanket making event has concluded people start to ask, "when will the next event be?" Both Patti and Marianne (she received the blankets in Germany for distibution) call in to the event to inspire people and move them to tears with stories of just how much these blankets mean to the injured men and women soldiers. My familt and community enjoys working with the outstanding non-profit Soldiers Angels. We look forward to many more years of affiliation.

I joined SA a few years ago when some of my friends were entering or already in the military because i wanted to help out. I have a disability and so going into the military myself is not an option...so this would be my way of giving back to out country. I believe SA would def. benefit from winning money...only to give back to the men and women who are doing the real work for us to live in freedom

I joined SA in January of 2011 in order to accomplish three things. To help improve my sense of self, to help my daughter, who is 5, learn that there is more to life than her stuffed animals and toys, and to support our troops.
This organization does more than I could ever have imagined. When I joined, I had no idea just how many different teams and specialities there were for volunteers to join. Each has a specific purpose, and they do their jobs diligently. I am so very proud to be a part of this organization. They are the best there is.
The support for the volunteers ("Angels") is excellent. Instructions are specific, and the moral support is awesome.
Soldiers' Angels has helped me with all three of my goals. I have found a greater sense of self and service, I support the troops, and my daughter loves to come home and color a picture for our adopted soldiers when she gets home instead of playing with her toys.
I will be an Angel until the world has found total and complete peace and beyond...

I love this organization. I adopted a few soldiers and also got involved with letter writing and I was hooked. I'm a retired teacher and it allows me to still have a purpose in life. Recently I've taken on organizing a state and it's so rewarding to be recognized as a five star non-profit and getting people involved. My purpose is to make as many people aware of Soldiers' Angels as possible thereby supporting soldiers, their family, and pets.activities
I have been a volunteer with Soldiers Angels for over 4 yrs now. I have had the humbling experience of adopting several soldiers. I am always in awe of the sacrifice these men and women make everyday. Since becoming a member I have also assisted in a few of their special projects like quilting blankets and sending support cards to soldiers I have not even adopted. Now my nephews are reciepients of some very kind Soldiers Angels who have found the time to adopt them and make thier deployment to Afghanistan a little bit better.

Soldiers Angels is a way for anyone, anywhere to help give personal support to a service member. You can either send support through the organization, or directly to a soldier by adopting one! This lets you really get to know that person's situation, needs and wishes. My soldier likes rap music, peanutbutter cups and new socks.

I found Soldiers Angels will looking for a charity to donate hand made (crocheted) blankets. I send finished ones to VA hospitals to support wounded veterans through them. I'm up to 18 and counting blankets sent since last fall. I have become involved in several other groups within the organization serving soldiers and veterans, including "adopting" two who are currently serving in Afghanistan. It is a commitment of love and caring that I am happy to make. They bring you in to wanting to do more and feeling valued for everything that you can do.

Each and every possible angle that can be taken to reach a soldier, airman, marine or sailor overseas and provide for their needs that Uncle Sam doesn't address. Uncle Sam gives them what they need to fight and survive. Soldiers' Angels provides them with what they need to be human. They are for the most part, youngsters, away from home and family for the first time in a country and culture that is hard to understand and to top that off, insurgents are trying to kill them. Anything that our family can do to get them through, we feel is an honor that we have been given. SA makes it so easy to be a great supporter, citizen and patriot.

Soldiers Angels is an important and meaningful organization. While being involved in SA I have written letters and sent care packages to deployed soldiers. I have only been involved for a few months and I love it. It is so rewarding to be able to give support and gratitude to our military men and women who sacrifice so much. I hope to become more involved in SA in the future. This organization has so many thoughtful and much needed services for our soldiers and their loved ones.

I have been involved with Soldier's Angels for almost two years now and I fell in love with them right from the very beginning. The idea of being able to give back to our soldiers who sacrifice so much for us is so exciting to me! I am very grateful that I found Soldier's Angels and I am proud to be a part of this wonderful organization.

Through Soldier's Angels, I have donated baby clothes and supplies for baby showers given to expectant moms of deployed soldiers, air men and women, sailors and marines. I have sent supplies like clothing and hygiene products to injured service men and women being treated at Landstuhl Germany. I have communicated with other angels for various projects, including sending birthday cards, welcome home cards, get well cards, appreciation cards, and post cards from all 50 states. I have adopted many soldiers officially and unofficially sending them care packages and letters for the past 5 years at least. I have sent sheets and blankets to the barracks for single soldiers returning from deployment back to a base. To boost morale, to show our people in the armed forces that we care, is essential to them and to us. Patti and all of Soldier's Angels have one mission and that is may no soldier go unloved and I WON'T let that happen, will you?

I was inspired to join Soldiers' Angels when work kept my partner and I apart for three months. I realized that the loneliness I was feeling would be much worse if I was away from the comfort of my home. Regardless of personal feelings about the war, these women are deployed and need our support. I have really enjoyed my interactions with the women overseas. I have sent various packages and cards and received great, positive feedback. The program is well organized with monthly updates and helpful tips/reminders. All in all this is a great way to volunteer without a hug time commitment, but still make a difference and brighten someone's day.
I signed up with Soldier's Angels because I'm an OEF/OEF Navy veteran. I remember how lonely it was when I was in & received little to no mail. Soldiers shouldn't feel the way I did so if I can help brighten their day, I am honored to do it. I send mainly postcards but sometimes I send letters to soldiers once a week through the Letter Writing Team. I send 1 care package once a month to female on the Ladies of Liberty Team. Any time there are special requests from either team, i.e. a group of soldiers need undergarments, I send what they need. I feel like it is the least that I can do when I am able (I'm a student with only a work study job.) to.
Since joining Soldiers' Angels in 2009, I have had a renewed sense of the importance of what our military members do for us everyday. They are fighting in a far off country and encounter extreme conditions everyday. We are safe in our homes with our usual routines, but that is because of what the service members are doing for us. It is a small effort to send a card or letter or package of goodies to someone who can use our words of encouragement. It makes them feel that someone back home does care about what they are doing. Recently, there was an urgent need for female underwear to be sent and I bought some and sent it out. That felt so worthwhile and the cost was minimal. Everyone can do their part by joining the different teams that help Soldiers' Angels support our troops; it is a truly valuable organization.
In 2005, I had felt the war in Iraq & Afghanistan was going to be a long road to acquiring freedom for the people living in those countries. So many of our young men and women believed in the war, especially since 9/11 hit us right here at home. They were willing to fight and even die so that all of us could remain free. I wanted to do my part,SOMETHING that would make a difference. So I went to the internet looking for a website where I could get the names of some of our service men/women so I could write letters of encouragement to them, let them know that their fight was not in vain. I came upon Soldiers' Angels and joined. I was truly astonished by all of the people that joined. I joined the Letter Writing Team, The Baking Team, Sending cards to our wounded and then I came across Ladies of Liberty. Ladies of Liberty is for all the women that have enlisted. I usually received male names and wondered why there weren't any female names given. Each month I am given the name of a female enlisted and I send her a letter or card with a package containing essentials that are needed but not available along with word games, goodies, etc. We also can send letters/cards to other girls if we want to. Recently, monthly birthdays are sent out so that we can give something special to one or more of the ladies for their special day. It is so important that we support and show our gratitude to these ladies-they are someone's mother, daughter, wife, friend and they sacrifice so very much so that we can go to sleep each night knowing we are safe because of them. We are broken up into teams-I belong to Team 4. Paula Kendall and Sandi Halford are team 4 Leaders. They do a fantastic job keeping all of us up-to-date with mail-stops and monthly lists. And they are always there, whenever they are needed. Belonging to Soldiers' Angels is the most rewarding thing I have ever done. It takes dedication to fight for freedom and it also takes dedication to support those that protect us. You can also be assigned aservice man or woman by "adopting" them for their entire time of deployment until they are safely home again. The friendships that you build are truly wonderful. I still hear from some of them, after they had returned home. Sometimes they don't write alot, but they are very busy and just knowing that we back home support them, gives thems the courage to continue on. I now look at service men & women with a true pride of what America stands for. We must each do our own part to keep the rights we so fiercely fight for. Thank you to ALL our enlisted-without them where would WE be right now!!
As a part of the Fairytale Brownies Customer Service team, I get the opportunity to interact with Soldiers’ Angels/Ladies of Liberty regularly. They are a wonderful organization, helping our men and women serving overseas get the items they so desperately need; items that are really hard to come by in a country so far from home. Soldiers’ Angels/Ladies of Liberty supports our female combat and support forces so generously, and by helping them, it helps the morale of all the forces deployed overseas. As a part of the effort, we have joined with the Ladies of Liberty to provide the women serving overseas with fresh baked brownies, so they can have a taste of home in a place that, sometimes, can seem so lonely. Those strong, courageous women of the U.S. Armed Forces serve daily for the freedom of our country, as well as the freedom and safety of the many nations where they are deployed. Their actions help to provide a safe world in which all of us can live and work every day. Our brownies are just a way of saying THANK YOU to all of the wives, mothers, significant others, sisters, aunts, cousins, and daughters.
I have been blessed to be a part of Soldiers Angels for awhile. When I read about Ladies of Liberty I joined right away. Women have always been a part of liberty, wherever it exists and wherever it is being born. Our women represent all women everywhere who want whats best for their families, friends and communities. With our women soldiers on the front line doing so many different jobs and interacting with local people wherever they may be, the world sees more of our heart. Women together can accomplish amazing things and our women reach out. I want to help them reach other women and children, families wherever they are and I want our women in the armed forces to know we support them and thank them for leaving their homes and families to help make a difference in this world.Belonging to Ladies of Liberty and Soldiers Angels is one way I hope I can make a small difference, make someone happy with a note, some soap, deodorant, such small things, but they do make a difference.
I've been a member of Soldiers' Angels for several years, but joining the Ladies of Liberty Team has given me a unique opportunity. I have been able to support our military ladies, and gain their perspective on the challenges and rewards of serving our country. The work that the Ladies of Liberty team members do is far reaching. Many of these women, with the support of Soldiers' Angels, are doing amazing things to assist the citizens and children of Iraq and Afghanistan. I wholeheartedly applaud all of the volunteers who give so much of their time to support a very special group of women.
Last September I was searching the internet to find a volunteer opportunity. I decided on Soldiers' Angels and joined the Ladies of Liberty team. This team sends letters and care packages to the female troops who are deployed. Something as small as a short note or a birthday card means so much to our soldiers. Mail call is their favorite time of the day. You can adopt one soldier or send as many cards or letters as you want to a list of soldiers the team leader sends every month. If you want you can also send one or more care packages, depending on your budget. You can do as much or as little as you want, but I found, once I started getting replies from the soldiers to whom I wrote, it encouraged me to send more. I think I enjoy finding a note in my mailbox as much as they do. Many of our soldiers are very young and it is their first time away from home or they are on their second or third deployment, so they really appreciate any attention they receive, just to know that the people of their country care about them. Soldiers' Angels is a very well run organization and the Ladies of Liberty team is warm, friendly and encouraging to it's members.
I've been a memeber of this organization since 2007, and I've loved every minute of it. I've met so many great American Heros, and amazing people that support them. I've been able to show my daughters the challenges of our military women. They've read about the different world that these women live in for approximately a year, and the simple things they have to live without that we take for grantide. We've been rewarded every month by letters of gratitude for the very people that we support and thank every day. It's an amazing, rewarding, sometimes tearjerking organization that I hope we can be a part of for many years to come.
I got involved with this organization after a friend's husband was deployed to Iraq and I helped her send packages to him. So when another friend told me about this organization I immediately became involved. Although I don't have much money I do what I can and love that I am helping someone who is over seas fighting for my freedom. I am really enjoying being a member of the Ladies of Liberty and honored to be helping the females who are giving us women at home a sense of what it is to be a strong, independent woman. Go get em soldiers!
When my Dad and 2 cousins were deployed together in 2003, our entire extended family joined forces to support them. We quickly realized that our family members were getting much more support than anyone else in their companies and that some soldiers weren't receiving anything at all so we adopted those soldiers, too. When my husband and I got married in 2004 (he's active duty USAF) we quickly realized that having the support system our families provide (3 of his siblings & 1 sister-in-law are active duty as well) is very unique and we started looking for a way to help those who weren't as fortunate as we are. We found Soldiers' Angels and after looking at other non-profit organizations to help the troops, we joined SA in 2005. We have adopted more than 10 soldiers, helped provide Easter baskets for wounded soldiers' families, brought Christmas goodies to the families staying near their wounded soldiers away from home, and adopted a deployed soldier's family at Christmas so the kids could have gifts while the family was struggling financially. It is so difficult to express how much it means to us to be part of something so amazing and humbling. To receive thank you cards from our young men and women, who are just grateful someone remembers they are fighting for us is unbelievable. We have grown very close to some of our soldiers, and one considers us his family. Some we only hear from once, but that one note or email makes our day. Each and every one has a special place in our hearts. My husband and I have been so blessed and Soldiers' Angels gives us a way to help and say "Thank you" to those who deserve it most and for that we are grateful.
Three years ago a close friend was on his first deployment to Iraq. I was sending him weekly letters and monthly packages to help make his time a little easier. About two months in he wrote that many of his friend never got mail or packages- nothing. I then started to send extra letters and goodies for him to pass around. Hoping I could reach out to more troops I did a Google search and found Soldier's Angels. I now lead a team for Ladies of Liberty- a team that supports deployed females. In a world dominated by males, it is often hard for them to find things to make them feel like a woman. Sending them nail polish, perfumed lotion and all kinds of 'girly' items really helps to empower them and make them feel strong, yet feminine. I am also a member of the Letter Writing Team and write a letter to a different assigned soldier each week. I have met some wonderful men and women through this program and have unofficially adopted several soldiers who responded to one of my letters. It is not hard to feel forgotten when you are out serving our country and this program is a FANTASTIC and well organized way to let them know they they are our heroes and we are always thinking of them and support them!
I have been sending items of support to our troops since Desert Storm when my friends were being deployed. Now, twenty years later, I'm a little older and needed a vessel to be able to connect with & support our troops again. Through Soldier's Angels, I have been able to adopt troops to send regular items to and have also sent countless other troops packages of items they need, penpal type letters, and cards of encouragement & support. Sometimes I am even lucky enough to get a little thank you card back from them, which completely makes my day! Soldier's Angels is the vessel any proud patriotic American troop-supporter could benefit from! We 'angels' benefit because we have the satisfaction of knowing we are supporting those incredible individuals who selflessly sacrifice so much for us. I haven't joined the military but I can sure support & help those who have! I'm so grateful Soldier's Angels exists because, otherwise, I might not have been able to connect with and support all the troops that I have over the past few years. Any the staff of Soldier's Angels I've ever had dealings with has been absolutely fantastic, as well!
When my son wanted to go live with his dad in another state. I was devastated, and I also wanted to serve my country as well. Due to age and current tenure in my present job, I decided to pay it forward in another way. I have volunteered for other non profit groups that also support our military, butSoldiers Angels is by far the best. There is a commradre that follows with each of us. It is the most self rewarding thing any one person can do and that is to make certain that our men & women of our military are taken care of. And to provide support to those left behind. I have had adopted soldier that when he returned home 2 yrs ago the first thing he did was IM me on line to thank me. He has a wife and 3 kids and the first thing he thought of was Soldiers Angels. I have adopted units, women and men and mail to them is like water to a dessert. They love it and they wait anxiously for that net piece of home. And its a great feeling to know that you can bring that much happiness to a soldier.
As a team leader I make sure to send at least one letter to every Lady assigned to my team. I make sure to ask about special needs, allergies, or anything they want to share. It's amazing the amount of responses you can get. We are able to make a person's deployment just a little bit easier and make them feel more at home when they're so far away. I have a fabulous team that pulls together to help each and every one of the Ladies assigned to our team. I get such a rewarding experience from being a part of this wonderful organization.
As a spouse of someone who has been deployed, my husband and I know first-hand, how important mail from home is to soldiers overseas. Since his return in 2008, I saw how many letters he had gotten from other volunteer groups while he was over there and I wanted to do something for other soldiers who may or may not have the support of family and friends back home. I just love to write, and the thought of making someone else's day with just a simple note of thanks and encouragement is what made me seek out Soldiers Angels. I have been writing for them for over a year now and dont see myself stopping anytime soon! If anyone out there is looking to give back to their community, I definitely recommend this group!!!
Soldiers' Angels is a wonderful organization that has many opportunities to support deployed troops, their families, and veterans. One of the many teams under Soldiers' Angels is the Ladies of Liberty Team, which specifically supports deployed FEMALE soldiers. Each month, as a Team Leader I receive a support list of deployed ladies (our female troops) and I coordinate the efforts of about 70 Angels to support those female troops. We write letters, emails and send care packages. The response of my team of Angels and our Angel leadership is PHENOMENAL. An Angel has a question or concern? Usually answered within the hour! A particular soldier needs something special to cheer her troops or help someone in need (from local schoolchildren in Afghanistan to wounded troops in hospital), and we are ON IT, with whatever is needed. This organization is respected by our troops (a number of our female soldiers have returned home and joined our support team!), and it's an HONOR to be one small part of ALL that is done by Soldiers' Angels.
Soldiers' Angels is not just any non profit: Each Angel has a true compassion to make sure that every Soldier in the United States have someone who cares for them. We not only adopt individual Soldiers but we also conduct larger events for them as well. Currently will be at LZ Lambeau Field welcoming all Vietnam Veterans Home in Wisconsin. Would write more about this fantastic secure organization but need to arrange more boxes and a few letters must go out for mail call so No Soldier Ever Feels Unloved! Thanks to Director Patti who is non stop making sure with all of our Teams and Events and Boxes keep us going and inspire to get up early & stay up late manning our Angel Posts. We understand how hard our Soldiers in all branches work hard to keep US safe and the little extra we do means so much. As a woman love the fact they address the needs of Women Soldiers and hats off to the Ladys' of Liberty Team.. I know the work you do is incredible. Wing-tip-to-wingtip One of Many Beloved Angels to our Soldiers. Angel in WI
I am on the verge of retiring after working 40yrs in the railroad industry. And was wondering how I will settle into retirement. Being a part of this organization and knowing that I can help lift spirits gives my life new purpose. I am grateful for the opportunity to do my small part to help out. Women CAN be helpful in times such as these.
Coming from a Military family, this Organization is very important to me.Soldiers' Angels is a lifeline for soldiers. We provide support through letters, cards and care packages to soldiers that would never receive support from home unless we send them something. The feeling of being able to send a care package or card is very rewarding,to know you're making a difference in someone Else's life..Even if you never get to meet your adopted soldiers.
Soldiers' Angels is a lifeline for our soldiers. We provide support through letters, cards and care packages to soldiers that would never receive support from home. I have been an Angel since 2005 and can honestly say that this is the one thing I have done in my life that I am most proud of. To know that you are supporting those that protect us when they might not get support from anywhere else is amazing.
Soldier's Angels is one of the best nonprofits out there. They focus on support and caring for all deployed military and their families. I am on a special team with Soldier's Angels called Ladies of Liberty. As a woman this is very empowering to me to be able to lift up these women who are braving conditions and activities that some men wouldn't be able to handle. This nonprofit is very important for all of the female soldiers out there in making sure they are taken care of and supported.
I became involved with Soldiers Angels in 2006/2007 because my husband had been deployed to Iraq and was adopted by a Soldiers Angel. He told me how amazing his angel was at sending him carepackages and letters which he shared with his soldiers. He told me that it made a world of difference in the morale of his soldiers to know that a stranger cared enough to recognize their sacrifices. I have since adopted about 6-8 soldiers myself to help carry on that tradition as a way of saying "Thank You" to Soldiers Angels for the care they bestowed upon my husband and to all our men and women in uniform as well as their families. It's such an amazing program that I am honored to be a part of!
back when the war started i got an eamil from a lady name Patti she had 3 pages of names of hero's out in the war zone they all needed some tlc. that is when Patti got going she got everyone she knew to start sending tlc boxes , letters to the troops. From there it became a 501c. i do think there is more than 200,000 angles out there helping give tlc to our heros. my self i like to help any one they send me but my heart is with the k-9 units. this way i send to 2 at the same time our k-9 units needs so much. they need goodies for the dogs and them selfs. they need people to understand that they are both working to keep this world safe. You have to remember the dogs need special stuff , like a cooling vest, doggles, bones, tennis balls you name it is what they need. but most of all they need a person who cares.. God bless our troops , God bless our k-9's and Soldiers Angels. THANK YOU SOLDIERS ANGLES FOR LETTING ME HELP THE TROOPS.....
I was scanning websites one day and came upon the Soldiers Angels I looked over the page and decided to adopt a soldier. I myself am a vet and thought it would be a great way to give back. I know how it is when you get a letter in the mail when you are away from your loved ones. It is a very rewarding organization. It is so easy to order off their site and send a care package. I also am the owner of a pink Soldier's Angel shirt, in which I wear it proudly. God Bless the Service Men and Women that dedicate their lives for our Freedom. I recommend this organization for everyone that wants to get involved.
I was introduced to Soldiers Angels in 2006 because a stand was set up for Military Support. I went home and researched the website, and found that the organization truly took care of our Troops, families, and Veterans alike. I joined immediately, and adopted a soldier. I wrote letters, and sent packages, and now have a forever friendship with this soldier. I have since adopted more soldiers, and it is so rewarding to know that a little time and donation, can make their experience over there a little easier to bare. I was so happy that I found a way to give back to them, when they so freely serve for all of us. Little did I know, that both my sister and my brother-in-law were both to be deployed in 2007 to Iraq and Afghanistan. It never meant more to me then it did at that time, to know that my loved ones had extra care from this amazing organization. Soldiers Angels has provided so many ways for volunteers to be in action, and feel needed. Soldiers Angels have allowed volunteers to network in our local communities, to help our local VA Hospitals and Wounded heroes. Here in Pennsylvania, a group of volunteers have come together to support Soldiers Angels efforts. We go to airports and welcome home soldiers right out of the gate, we also send them off with honor and pride, and unfortunately, we have also shown support with Flag lines at funerals or memorials of our Killed in Action. Soldiers Angels has provided every person a means to incorporate themselves into the organization and use their own resources to support our Military. Teams within the organization that anyone may join include, Card and Letter writing, Sewing for blankets, animal lovers for Deployed K9 units, Baby showers for Mom's while their husbands are deployed, Valour-IT, a laptop program, to provide soldiers with technology to connect with home, and the list goes on and on. Soldiers Angels have even provided a store on their website, so we volunteers can purchase items for ourselves, and for our Veterans. I recently became apart of the Soldiers Angels Day of the Deployed Team. This is a proclaimed day to recognize all Soldiers, past present and future, that have been deployed overseas. What an honor to be apart of something so special, but so deserving to our brave men and women, serving our country. Overall, I suggest this Non-Profit organization to anyone in the world. I am proud to be a member of Soldiers Angels Foundation.
I was already a member of another non-profit organization that hosts a Bestowal service for our Military. I think its the best part of being a member. But always felt there was more I could do for our active military. Then I found Soldiers' Angels.. I immediately adopted a Soldier, I hope I brought him as much joy in his stay in Iraq as he gave me here in the States. I never expected to hear from him, and in January he emailed me. WOW.. I felt like he was my son, and I wanted to do all I could to take care of him, while he protected me from danger. In his Christmas care pkg, I wrapped every single item in wrapping paper so he would have Christmas presents. The day after I was notified he was returning home I adopted another one. This time its a girl!! We have emailed back and forth, and I have sent my first care pkg, I hope she enjoys it as much as I enjoyed doing it for her.. I will continue adopting a Soldier til they ALL come home... I feel like I found what I was looking for to show support for our military. If I can bring a smile to them for just one moment while they are away, if I can show them we at home CARE about them, then I am happy.
One day I was looking through a local paper and came across a story of a woman who belonged to Soldier's Angels. I had always thought about what could I do to help out. You always want to think about "great things" that should be done to help our troops. But in reality it's the little things done by many people that makes the Biggest difference. So I started out by adopting a soldier then went on to becoming a Community team leader. In the summertime my husband and myself go out to all different events and sell items and take donations and get all kinds of things to send packages to deployed soldiers. We also, are a Major part of the River Jam Music Festival in August. This will be our thidr year. Last year when the traveling Wall from Viet Nam was here in Hawley, we met and gave flags to the VN Vets. That was so powerful. So be a part of something. It is so worth your while. I did and I am so happy I did.
My sister had joined and she told me she adopted a soldier. I was overjoyed at the fact that there was something that we could do for our military!!!!! I went to the site and adopted. I get a package out at least once a week filled with all kinds of goodies. It's quick and oh so easy!!!! It is the least we can do for the people that are keeping us safe!!!! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!
The Ladies of Liberty team of Soldiers' Angels focuses on the needs of deployed female servicemembers. We understand that females are instrumental in the current war (as in the past), and make special efforts to support them in their missions while showcasing our appreciation for their service. We assist with supplies for their unique health and hygiene needs, and help them experience a few pampering moments to rejuvenate and "be good to themselves." Ladies of Liberty is a group of teams composed of 50- 60 members with a team leader and assistant who all work together to support 50-60 different female soldiers per team. The program originated in a University of North Dakota Women's Studies class taught by Shelle Michaels in the 2006 summer session. The students originally adopted 24 females from the North Dakota Army National Guard (1-188th ADA JLENS and SECFOR). Almost two million women in America's history have been veterans--from the American Revolution to Panama, Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq, women have served in some way in every American conflict. Thirty-three thousand women served in WWI, and almost 500,000 took part in WWII. During the Korean era, 120,000 women were in uniform, and 7,000 were deployed in-theater during Vietnam. In Desert Storm, seven percent of the total U.S. forces deployed were women - over 40,000 personnel. In terms of the scope of women serving our country, Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom are no different than past conflicts. Today's heroic deployed women--whose patriotism, courage and perseverance are shaping the nation on a daily basis--are in the same tradition of strength as those who served previously in this special sisterhood.
I just recently joined Soldiers' Angels (SA) a few days ago and decided to join the Cards Plus Team. I went to the store and bought a few cards right away, wrote them out and sent them off. It didn't take me long at all to accomplish this task. :) I was concerned that perhaps I wouldn't have the time to devote to actually adopting a soldier. However, after seeing the numbers of soldiers that want to be adopted growing each day on the SA website, I knew that I couldn't turn away from adopting a soldier and making sure he or she felt the appreciation and support of those of us here at home. It is important to realize that SA is not a political organization....politics aren't discussed. The focus of the organization is having compassion for our deployed service members (and vets) who face great challenges on a daily basis and offering them some much needed support. Essentially, you are serving those that serve. :) I adopted my first soldier a couple of days ago from the SA website and it literally took all of a minute. I love the feeling that you can go to the website and seconds later be involved in doing something positive in the life of a military member who is living and working under oftentimes very challenging circumstances (to say the least). Also, SA has great resources and suggestions for care packages you can send off to your adopted soldier. You can even send off care packages directly from their website at reasonable prices. Plus, your money goes towards the wonderful efforts of SA, which is a plus. SA has resources and links to various companies that provide free shipping to APO/FPO (i.e. overseas military) addresses. Yesterday, I linked up to a terrific brownie company from the SA website and sent a package of brownies to my adopted soldier within a few minutes. I've also written and sent over my first letter to this individual...it didn't take that much time to write....plus I had a great time writing the letter. I haven't been involved with this organization for very long, however, I would highly recommend them based on my brief experience. Most individuals looking to complete volunteer service want to see or feel a direct benefit of their time spent or money given. If you're in search of that type of experience (which you probably are), I would highly recommend that you check out Soldiers' Angels.
I am speaking as someone that has been in Angel for 6 months now. I joined back in November of 2009 and the first thing I did was join the letter-writing team, a team that's dedicated to writing letters to our deployed troops. A month later, I adopted a soldier. That's my personal involvment with Soldiers Angels. I feel that the pros of this organization really outnumber the cons; being a part of Soldiers' Angels is VERY rewarding and what I love about this organization is that you can do so much to help out our military. While our group does emphasies greatly on "adopting" a soldier, if you can't financially committ to adopting a soldier, you can join various "teams" such as the Letter Writing Team or the Cards Plus Team. What I love about this organization is that it's quite diverse...we do things not just for our currently deployed troops but also for our wounded troops, our veterans, their families, and even for the fallen. Not to mention the Staff members are fantastic and are VERY dedicated to helping with the cause. One particular issue I had stands out; I was pen pals with a soldier in Iraq but I lost her address and was worried because I didn't this soldier to feel like I was ignoring her and I felt bad. I contacted the Letter Writing Team leader and explained my dilemna and within the next day, I got a response back with her address. Any other questions I had, I would get answers to either within a couple days or a couple hours. I think the best part of SA is when you recieve a response back from a soldier you wrote to or sent a care package to...it really brightens up your day and they are VERY appreciative for all that we do as Angels! It's very rewarding and I encourage those I know to join or to at least donate to our cause. I feel that as far as "cons" go, there really isn't any. I think people do need to keep in mind that if they do join SA and adopt a soldier, there are cases when you will adopt someone and you won't hear back from them at all throughout their deployment. It's not that they don't appreciate your time and effort (they do!!), it's just that depending on their job or location, spare time to contact back can be pretty scarce. Also, every once in awhile, you will get a letter or a package returned to you and this can be due to a change in the soldier's location. However, in SA, there are contacts you can write to if this sort of thing happens. That's all I have to really say as far as "cons" go. Overall, Soldiers Angels is truly an awesome organization to be a part of and I am so proud to be involved with a group full of hard-working, dedicated people who make it their mission daily to make sure that no soldier goes unloved!
I joined Soldiers' Angels in September 2006, shortly after learning of my younger brother's upcoming deployment at that time. I'd never before had experience with an organization of this kind, and it was a relief to know that level of support was available to our men and women who sacrifice so much for our freedom. The response to my application was almost immediate, and I received a call not more than a day later. I was given the name of my first "adoptee" the following day, along with a list of letter suggestions, care package themes, and pertinent information for any issues that might arise. I was also directed to the forums so that I could share my questions and experiences with other members. While the forums are not by any means mandatory reading, there is invaluable information to be found there, as well as incredible camaraderie and support. The good works of Soldiers' Angels goes beyond the letters and care packages it's members send out to Soldiers every day. SA also has teams to support just about every aspect of the needs of our military you can imagine: Virtual baby showers for a Hero's new little one, Vet packs to support those who have sacrificed in the past, even chaplain support. Beyond even that, however, Soldiers' Angels support each other. Several months ago, while my younger brother was deployed in Iraq, a good friend of his was killed. It was devastating for him, and he was close to the Hero's family. Knowing my brother had also had a birthday recently, Soldiers' Angels responded with so much coffee (and even a grinder for the fresh beans!) that my brother ended up having to donate most of it to his buddies. In addition, Soldiers' Angels sent my brother a cake from Operation Birthday Cake. Not long afterward, our father passed away. My brother was still deployed, and I can't begin to imagine how he handled the heartache along with his already tough job overseas. He had only long enough to fly home, get Daddy's affairs in order, and go right back to war. Once again, Soldiers' Angels was there, and literally dozens of Angels responded with letters and care packages that kept my brother and his unit's spirits lifted for I'm sure quite some time. More recently, the people of Soldiers' Angels have been there for me, through phone calls and emails with words of encouragement for my own difficult personal circumstances. I feel honored and privileged to be considered a part of such an amazing and worthy cause. Keep in mind as you consider becoming a part of this type of organization that it is an all-volunteer organization, and one in which information (both to and from Angels, as well as Soldiers) is fast-moving and constantly changing. There will be occasional glitches in the system, but I can guarantee you that I have seen more miracles and works of kindness from this "Band of Angels" than with any other organization of it's kind. Ultimately, in the words of one wise member of Soldiers' Angels, it comes down to this: "We do what we do, because they do what they do!"
My husband and I signed up to be soldiers angels at the end of last year. After a few weeks of not hearing from our local contact, I emailed and asked about getting our solider's name. I was told, basically, that we would get it when they get it and we would know what they know. I trusted those instructions and emailed back that I didn't realize there was a wait involved. Several weeks more passed into a few months, again, with no contact. I finally recieved an email telling us that we were no longer needed as our soldier (name listed) had been sent home. I was appalled and disappointed to realize that perhaps, this young man was told that he had been assigned a SA but never received anything since WE were not told of him. I emailed our contact again stating as such and have heard NOTHING back in response even though the email had been verified as being sent. No explaination, nothing. As a writer for military issues, and a mother to service members myself, I am appalled at the lack of integrity I have just witnessed. While I would hope that this was an isolated incident, I have since come across certain curiosities involved with this organization which do not sit well with me. One of which was found at the American Institute of Philanthropy/ charity watch from 2007. I am heartily disappointed and thoroughly digusted.
Review from Guidestar
Soldiers' Angels (SA) is one of the best military/veteran support organization I have been involved with for many years of supporting our troops and their families. Through the various teams of volunteers across the country there never seems to be an issue or need that Soldiers' Angels can not assist with, whether the need involves sending letters and care packages to our deployed heroes, supporting the families of those deployed or our wounded heroes or the families of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice SA is there to lend support and do what needs to be done.
I am the CEO of MilitaryConnection.com. We are one of the most comprehensive directories of resources and information for military and veterans. We provide all of this to our users free. We also facilitate partnerships connecting corporations with outstanding non-profits. It is amazing what can be accomplished when good people join forces to help others. The best part of my job is the honor of working with many wonderful non-profits on an regular basis that put forth effort and energy to make a real difference in the lives of those who serve, past and present. I have worked with Soldiers Angels many times on many initiatives. I also constantly send them requests for assistance for military and veterans. They never say "NO". It is not in their vocabulary. I can tell you without a doubt that they are the "real deal". They work tirelessly to help military, wounded warriors, their families and veterans 24/7. They have a dedicated network of volunteers and nothing is impossible with these angels. I also want to commend Soldiers Angels and especially their founder, Patti Patton Bader, because they are team players and work well with other groups. It is not about them but about helping our military and veterans. Please feel free to contact me. I am in the position to know all the good ones/guys. Sincerely, Debbie Gregory, CEO MilitaryConnection.com debbieg@militaryconnection.com http://www.militaryconnection.com 800-817-3777,ext. 124
I volunteer for this organization and have many titles. This is the best one for helping our military abroad and here in the states. We sent 180,000 Christmas care packages last year to every troop that was in the War on Terrorism. As of today, 20 June 09, there are over 500 that need adopting. Please visit our site at www.soldiersangels.org Remember it is not whether you agree or disagree about the wars, it is about those men and women who have volunteered to give their life for this country and their people.
