Soi in Phuket have neutered over 30,20 dogs& cats & give treatment to the locals animals. They are valued & respected by the local population.
I first discovered Soi Dog through Tripadvisor last year. After visiting the organisation I knew instantly that I had to come back for several weeks to volunteer here.
Fast forward one year and I am so gratful to have spent 5 weeks with Soi Dog. The dogs and people are so inpirational, there is so much love and good energy around the place. Although the 5 weeks flew by, I've never been happier! ❤️ Soi Dog
We volunteered at the SOI in Phuket this November but only for 4 days which was not long enough. It was the best experience of my life and we felt honoured and privileged to be a part of this amazing organisation. Naturally fell in love with all the dogs and are adopting Sammie back to the UK in a few months. Staff are great and so passionate about the dogs. What SOI has achieved is outstanding but they still have a long way to go and we all need to support them with their plight.
I'll definitely be going back. It captures your heart. xx
I volunteered with Soi Dog, Phuket Thailand in October 2017. I had found this organization while planning my trip to Asia on TripAdvisor where it ranked very high in places to visit in Thailand. After spending 4 weeks volunteering, I fell in love with each of the 27 dogs in the run that I had been assigned. Each run has "keepers" that care for the animals every day. The keepers care for the dogs in way that I have not seen in any American shelters back home. They dogs are well fed and bathed weekly by the keepers. As a volunteer, my only task was to walk the dogs and socialize them so that they are comfortable with human companionship. Most of these dogs come from neglect, abuse, and cruelty at the hands of humans.
For anyone who is looking to contribute to a cause greater than themselves, I highly recommend this organization. They value their volunteers and are grateful for any amount of time that the volunteers can give. Please consider this organization if volunteering is something that interests you. You will not regret making this choice. I plan on coming back every year as Soi Dog has become my home away from home.
I never imaged that I would enjoy my week at Soi Dog Phuket. I had seen some terrible photos of some dogs that made me sick of what some people could do to these street dogs in Thailand. I eventually did the tour and decided to help out in the Old Aged Pensioner runs for the rest of the week (4 days). This place is just so amazing and the dogs are there greeting you each morning to take them for a walk. You just fall in love with them all after hearing of their stories. To volunteer here is a rewarding experience and time really well spent. The organisation and volunteer co-ordinators welcome you and made you fell right at home while your there helping out. Thank you for doing something for the dogs (and cats) of Thailand.
Spent a week volunteering at Soi Dog with my husband and 2 teenage daughters, it was amazing to be part of such a worthy organisation. Soi Dog makes a difference to a dog’s life every day.
This is my third time at the Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket.
The organisation and the people who run it are amazingly inspiring.
Unlike most charities, 90% of funds raised goes straight to animal welfare projects.
John Dalley, the co-founder, is on hand most days to answer questions about Soi Dog and the progress made in animal welfare in Asia.
If you love dogs and want a rewarding working holiday, head to Mai Khao and the Soi Dog shelter. You will be made to feel welcome by the dedicated team of Volunteer co-ordinators and the 500 + dogs who call Soi Dog home!
Most volunteers find themselves already planning their next trip before they leave.
I will not be able to return for the foreseeable future as I am adopting a dog, Frostbite, who will be coming home with me in 3 weeks time!
After visiting Soi Dog 3 times, and then coming to stay in Thailand for a year, I decided to volunteeer, and what an amazing humbling experience it has been, all the work hard, love and commitment that is shown to the cats, dogs and even the duck is first to none, not one day of my 3 weeks stay, was I not eager to get there, I even drove 1 hour 10 mins each way from where I was staying and even that did not put me off, I have enjoyed every single second and I hope that they will have me back in March for another 4 weeks stay. An amazing organisation, give it a try, you will love it
My name is Stefan from Germany, i just arraived in Puhket on the 7th of october and met someone who was volunteering already for a while at Soi Dog Foundation in nai yang. i never had any experience in dog care before. So i did a tour around the organsisation and was pretty sure i wanna be a part of this! It is a amazing feeling to help and social the dogs! i spent one week with teeager dogs and it was definitely to short! i will go travel a bit and think about to do something like this every year! specially around asia! i appreciate all the work in here! The main stuff plus volunteers are very friendly and it was a pleasure for me! THANK YOU ALL!!
My friend Jehanne and I had the pleasure to volunteer with Soi Dog for a week and to be honest one week is not enough. I had no experience with dogs and I was even a little afraid of them, but Jehanne really wanted to do this experience, so she dragged me in and that completely changed my point of view. We had so much fun with walking the dogs playing with them and trying to socialise them. We learned that a dog isn't just a dog and it was so amusing to see the different type of temper. I think it's impossible to go out of this experience without any affection for them after such an intense week.
Soi dog is a really outstanding organisation with passionate people who care a lot about their little friends in need. I think every dogs lover should do this experience at least once in their lifetime.
We are so sad to leave our new friends.
Thank you so much for this amazing experience and hope to see you soon again
With all the best wishes
Jehanne and Helena
I discovered Soi Dog Foundation through a post on Facebook in 2015. I was needing to find something positive that would make a difference. I volunteered for 3 weeks even though I wasn't sure working with street dogs was for me. It was such a rewarding experience, that I've been back every year since. Yes, it can be a little confronting, but the dogs really appreciate your company and most, not all, love to go for a walk with you and get some personal attention. Socalising them is so important as it helps them become adoptable. Sadly, for various reasons some spend the rest of their lives at Soi Dog, but they are loved and cared for. I highly recommend volunteering, it's so rewarding. ....and you will want to come back!
My girlfriend and I spent a week at the Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket, Thailand, and we loved every second of it!
It was great to see how well managed the organization was, and how smoothly it operated given the amount of Dogs and Volunteers. The animals are well cared for (and very loved!) and donation money is definitely being put to good use.
Couldn't recommend these guys enough!

An amazing foundation providing much needed support to our Canine and Feline friends in Thailand and beyond. I cannot thank them enough for the opportunity to volunteer with them and would 150% recommend them to anyone who would like to give back. The staff, facilities and support provided were fabulous. The real deal!!
i have spent 2 weeks volunteering with Soi Dog and have found the experience to be highly rewarding. Within the first week my co-ordinator spent a lot of time with me and introducedme to each dog and gave me a background on them to insure that i was well prepared when i walked them and was in the run alone with them.
an amazing experience where i spent three weeks getting super attached to 28 loving souls that were rescued from the dog meat trade in Thailand. the staff are amazing individuals who's life revolves around the dogs and cats at Soi Dogs. i would recommend this organisation to anyone and everyone!
I decided that I wanted to volunteer at SDF to give them something in return for two beautiful dog meat trade dogs that I adopted from them. I volunteered for one week, but plan to come back very soon.
The shelter is home to many dogs and cats that are very well cared for by dedicated staff.
I feel honoured to be able to say that I spent a week here. The dogs truly benefit from the interaction with humans!
We visited Soi Dog whilst travelling through Phuket. After seeing the beautiful animals and amazing things that the staff and volunteers were doing we couldn't wait to sign up. It's been the best experience of our travels and we extended to stay another week. Fell in love with the wagging tails and smiles in the morning. Soi Dog have been doing fantastic things so far with passion to do more in the future. Well done to all involved!
Soi Dog’s record is well known and a full picture of their activities can be found on their website at www.soidog.org. I’ll limit my comments to my experience as a volunteer at their Phuket shelter from February to May this year, particularly how the organisation helps the volunteer get on with the job.
Transportation is provided from three pickup points in the town of Nai Yang without which getting to the shelter would be a time consuming and expensive exercise.
There is a Monday morning briefing to all volunteers enabling the new ones to meet their buddies and for everyone to hear any news or change to protocols.
To look after our wellbeing in a sometimes hostile climate lunch can be ordered, paid for by the volunteer. The following are provided for free – tea, coffee, filtered water, electrolyte replacement powders, sun screen, insect repellent. Taking a break in the shade or air-conditioning is encouraged.
Weekly presentations are held at lunchtime from a senior staff member eg dog meat trade situation, status of hospital and shelter, strategy and finance.
As a long term volunteer I was asked to keep my eyes open for anything that may be of concern. Any points raised were discussed and in many cases implemented immediately. Before departure everyone receives a debriefing to air their views. I left them with a list of suggestions – I’m confident the relevant ones will be in place by the time I return next week. Also that rejected ideas will be explained.
I’ve been involved in animal welfare for many years. Nowhere have I seen the commitment and passion I’ve experienced here. There is transparency at every level, we are informed and cared for.
I have just spent 2 weeks volunteering at the Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket, Thailand.
The experience was truly amazing. The staff were so welcoming and informative.
The first day started with a tour of the animal shelter facility followed by a heartwarming video and it also explained how to handle the dogs in this environment.
The following days were filled with socialising and walking the dogs. Each run contains a large number of dogs that the volunteers are responsible for.
It was fabulous to see them progress throughout my stay and to enable a relationship to be built on trust and loyalty.
The dogs are walked each day to enable them to be more social which increases their chances of being adopted all over the world.
The day starts at around 09.15 through till 16.00hrs. Lunch is 12 - 13.00hrs of which you can place an order. Vegetarian options included.
There are also many cats that require socialising which are in large runs. It was great just to sit down to stoke them and play with their toys!
It is an experience I will never forget. It was just fabulous to be surrounded by like - minded people who were just as passionate about animals as I am.
If you want a worthwhile, relaxing and unique experience caring for neglected and abused street dogs and those rescued from the dog meat trade then the Soi Dog Foundation is the place you need to visit!
Have a great trip!
I volunteered with Soi Dog with a friend for 3 weeks. The organisation was very honest and open about all the work they do and their plans for the future; meaning volunteers are really made to feel involved, useful in many ways and like a valued asset!
The experience was extremely fulfilling and in many ways, educational. I learned to how to work and behave around dogs of all needs independently, while being given lots of support throughout my time there. With everybody who's working there having the animals at their best interest there's a real community style environment.
It's astounding how much has been achieved through the work of Soi Dog on public donations alone!
I would definitely recommend people to volunteer here for as long as possible, sponsor an animal or adopt one!
Had an amazing 1 week stay at Soi Dog. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the facility was run amazing well and efficient. The keepers work passionately and attentively with the dogs, you can see they really care. Everyone together is working to the benefits of the dogs and cats there, it really is an amazing team. All I can say is go and do it! And support them in anyway possible.
I DONATE TO GREAT ORGANIZATIONS. THIS ONE SEEMS AWESOME!
This organisation is the one other animal welfare charities should take inspiration from. A no-kill shelter that rescues thousands of street animals every year and the ONLY organisation actively doing something to end the dog meat trade in Thailand.
A visit to their shelter is an experience you will never forget. No egos here, just compassion. Proud to support them.
I have worked for years in animal welfare and this is one of the most well thought out and well run shelters I have ever visited. Soi Dog has done so much for the street dogs and cats of Phuket and further afield, not only through their rescue work but through their very important spay and neuter programme, which has seen a massive decline in stray animal numbers throughout the island. In addition, they frequently run mobile sterilisation clinics further afield, to help reduce animal population numbers in other areas of Thailand.
They are also making huge strides in their fight to end the illegal dog meat trade and funding shelters that house thousands of dogs rescued from being skinned and boiled alive.
Soi Dog has impressed me from the beginning and felt compelled to become a monthly donor. I give with confidence knowing how dedicated they are to the cause of stray cats and dogs. There are no high payed directors or executives at Soi Dog all goes to help animals!
Soi Dog has played for the first time ever in history something that no other org have done before. The Dog Meat Trade industry is under the eyes of the entire world thanks to Soi Dog and leaders from governments, global organizations and supporters all around the world now are aware of whats going on.
At Soi Dog there are no egos. Everything goes to the dogs and they operate at one of the lower % operating costs in the world.
A highly and trusted organization to support.
The highest level of rescue organization focused on help neglected and abused cats and dogs can be, Need more proof? Just Google Soi Dog Foundation and see it by yourself.
I have been involved with Soi Dog for ten years. I have seen them grow to where they are now and am constantly blown away with what they have acheived. I have volunteered at the shelter many times and it is so much nicer than what our dogs have here in the states. I have 2 dog meat trade survivors from Soi dog that are such wonderful dogs. This really is such a great organization to be involved with.
I was present at Soi Dog on Friday when 27 lucky dogs rescued from the horrific dog meat trade by Soi Dog arrived at the shelter. It was an emotional moment to see these previously brutalised dogs greet their saviours with licks and wag their tails despite the horror that they have been through. With the support of animal lovers, the amazing people at Soi Dog will now treat, rehabilitate and socialise the animals before finding them forever homes accross the world. This charity does amazing work, and needs all our support to make a life saving difference to animals that cannot help themselves.
The most genuine animal organisation I have ever come across.
Soi Dog makes a difference every day in a myriad of ways. Caring for and treating animals that are referred to the Shelter, sterilizing programs, fighting to end the Dog Meat Trade, socializing and placing dogs and cats in loving homes all over the world as well as raising awareness of animal rights. Management, staff and volunteers share a common approach and ethos - it's all about the lovely animals! There are no flashy vehicles or facilities but the treasure that exists in this corner of Phuket, Thailand, is priceless!
Soi Dog represents to me the perfect example of a charity that hasn't got bigger in the wallet but in the heart. So many dedicated volunteers one barely sees anymore in most charities. A perfect case of how a charity can change the world - well done Soi Dog!
Love Soi for helping THESE POOR DEFENSELESS ANIMALS FROM THE ATROCITYS THEY would have sufferd if Soi didn't step in . Please Donate and help this Great Cause . God Bless you all
SOI DOG FOUNDATION,
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAVING ALL THOSE DOGS, YOU ARE MY HERO'S!
GOD BE WITH EVERY LITTLE DOG IN DESPERATE NEED OF COMMPASSIONATE, CARING HUMAN BEING.
Soi dog should be the global example and the one to follow of what an animal rescue organization should be. Starting from their no-kill shelter policy, the fact that all management and senior level officers are all NON paid people and the unprecedented low operation cost shows an honest, humane and professional way to face the very complex challenges they face every day.
I've donated, I donate, I've volunteered, I volunteer and I will continue supporting Soi Dog in any and all the possible way.
My respect to Soi Dog.
We visited the shelter in January 2015 with no intention of adopting. We were very impressed at all the work they are doing and found the experience to be life changing, not least as we ended up adopting a dog saved from the street, Smoocher. All the staff are very dedicated and their attitude to animal welfare is second to none. No one has the resources to rescue and house all the street dogs and those rescued from the meat trade and they do their utmost with the facilitates at their disposal. We will now visit the shelter every year to show our support to the fabulous work they do.
