I actively volunteered for SEF for a short span of time, and SEF became a part of me forever. Its a family of wonderful people that work tirelessly for the cause of eradicating curable blindness. The volunteer based non profit has made huge strides towards this and has built fully equipped free eye hospitals successfully with targeted initiatives. I will always support them in any form I can.

As a regular donor over the last few years, I have observed the positive development of this organization and the achievement of significant milestones in achieving its goal of eradicating curable blindness in India. I visited the Anand, Gujarat hospital location last year, during its construction. I was impressed with the scale and professionalism of all involved. Now that this hospital is fully operational, I will visit this December.

SEF is driven by passion - passion for the cause and passion of the volunteers assist in any which way they can. I've met the sincerest folks who are willing to work tirelessly. Everyone is in it for the goodness that they are bringing to the lives of the needy back home. And I'd be remiss if I did not mention that the culture at SEF is driven right from the top - the founders who started this organization here in the US.

My husband and I have been supporting Sankara Eye Foundation for the last 10 years. Their events are very well organized, they are very accountable with donations, can always talk with their volunteers about any concerns and suggestions. My husband visited their hospital in Bangalore and was very impressed with the facilities. We have tried other non-profits but have never felt as satisfied as we do when donating to SEF. We plan to keep supporting SEF to help reach their goal of 20/20 vision by 2020.

I came into SEF volunteer team thanks to my wife. I have found that this organization has great leadership potential at the headquarters where the founders put in their heart and soul towards the cause. Volunteering for SEF is a learning experience, one gets to meet, interact and work with different types of personalities which can be quite frustrating at times but somehow the cause and the goal to achieve "Vision 2020 by the year 2020" keeps everyone going and the disputes if any get resolved. I feel that the board members don't travel enough to pep up volunteers and make them work harder or create leadership in different cities of the US. Currently SEF-HQ at Bay Area is like an island of leadership, initiative and power. The other chapters lack the drive and enthusiasm that is seen in the HQ. Instead of just conducting conference calls, I believe that someone from the board should travel around the country every quarter and motivate volunteers to do more. This will take the organization closer to its goal. I have not visited any of the hospitals yet so apart from the information in SEF newsletter and media reports I don't know what the SEF India is doing.

I have been a Sankara volunteer since it was started by our good friends: Murali & Sasikala family in the Bay Area. I have seen the phenomenal growth in its activities and volunteer base over the years due to the dedication of the founders and reception from the Bay Area population. I then had the opportunity to visit the SES Hospital in Coimbatore, India. I found it to be a model for all hospitals. The facilities/cleanliness/knowledge & courteousness of the staff and the ambiance are exceptional. I saw that all patients irrespective of their financial/social status were treated equally and with utmost respect. I consider SEF to be the greatest Non-profit organization.

Eradicating blindness isn't focus area for many in this world. Thanks to Sankara Eye Foundation which is raising awareness about this very important issue. I started donating to this organization first. I was pleasantly surprised when I made my first $30 donation and after a few days received a letter stating that a particular patient by so and so name was operated upon. Not many organizations follow up on your donations but SEF was different in this aspect and that impressed me lot. I have regularly donated and encouraged friends to donate. In that last 2 years I have also helped the organization in organizing their fund raiser events. It has been a great experience working with such highly motivated people and great friends now.

Looking at a career in medicine , the Diplomate in ophthalmology at Sankara Eye Hospital, Coimbatore was an automatic option. The extensive surgical exposure and the scope to expand professionally and personally , with the freedom to interact and express to seniors and the management was wonderful. In the past 5 years the support from people of indian origin from USA and Europe (Sankara Eye Foundation) enabled the organisation to replicate and there has been an enhancement in capacity of almost 300% with 5 new hospitals being added to the activities and a further 2 being handed over for management. It is wonderful that the philosophy of the organisation of reaching out to the underprivileged across India irrespective of socio-religious background has caught the imagination of thousands across the world to allow us to dream of replicating across 20 institutions and reach out with 1 million procedures year on year. Today the instituion runs the largest structured community outreach eye care activity in the world.

I even saw testimonials from people who got treatment there. One very interesting testimonial was about a person (looking for paid treatment options), who was recommended to get the eye-treatment done at this hospital by his maid, who got free treatment at the hospital. My experience at the Sankara Hospital at Coimbatore when I took my aunt for her surgery was proof of the wonderful treatment extended to all its patients. SEF values its volunteers greatly. I first came across SEF when I attended a music concert that they had co-sponsored for raising funds. At that point in time, I was more keen on the concert and knew precious little about the sponsors. However the brief 10 minute presentation that was organized during the intermission touched a chord in me. The first thing that struck me was the classy and dignified way in which they spelt out the mission of the foundation and requested financial and other assistance - a far cry from some of the other fund raisers where members of the audience where virtually shamed into commiting donations. I have maintained an interest in SEF ever since and have tried to help out in whatever way possible. I have even got my family interested in the SEF and my son has been driving down from UCLA every weekend over the past month or so to assist as a volunteer in some of their events - and he did this based on what he saw and experienced at the SEF office. He was struck by the camaraderie and the joyful spirit that pervaded the whole organization - people who really enjoyed what they were doing while contributing to a noble cause

My father has been closely associated with sankara Eye Hospital, coimbatore for many years.I have seen the hospital start in a small way as a clinic within the premises of a temple many years back and grow into full fledged hitech eye hospital in coimbatore. The hospital in Coimbatore has been doing great service for many years. The services of Sankara Eye Hospital would have remained restricted to Coimbatore and the neighbouring areas had SEF, USA not happened.SEF took this service to a different level altogether. They came up with this mission of "Vision 20/20 by 2020. It is easy for anybody to dream. But making the dream come true is not easy. Dreaming for ones personal success is one, but dreaming to see curable blindness eradicated in India is something else. The way in which the SEF volunteers are working, nothing is impossible for them. My father, who was suffering from Cancer, passed away a few months ago. I quote what he said just a couple of weeks before his death, " When I was first detected of Cancer 4 years ago, I thought I may not be able to see more Sankara Hospitals in my life time. Now that I have already seen 4-5 hospitals, I know that SEF will make 'vision 20/20 by 2020 happen. I first came to know about Sankara Eye Foundation as a student. I have been truly amazed at the zeal and the passion of this organisation in trying to make VISION 2020 a reality. I have had various opportunities of working closely with members of the Sankara family and their dedication is remarkable. No project is begun without complete research and understanding its feasibility and its impact on the population. Thus its not only about "giving" or "providing" but also about long term impacts and how health care can be brought to the doorsteps of the people who need it the most.

I was present at the inauguration of the Bangalore hospital of SEF. It was a revelation of sorts - the kind of facility that is available within the reach of poor patients. Hats-off to the volunteers who seem to be drunk with dedication to the noble cause. I realize that it is easier to donate money while it is very difficult dedicate personal time and effort to serve humanity. I wish SEF more success and salute from the heart the self-less volunteers of SEF.

When Murali started volunteering for SEF in USA on his uncle's request he did not know that he is destined to bring light to millions of curable blind in India. His unswerving dedication to the cause of 20/20 vision by 2020 has now seen hospitals in Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh & Karnataka to be followed by Hospitals in Gujarat, Panjab & UP. The devotion, committment & enthusiasm shown by the Management team & every volunteer of SEF USA is amazing and unbelievable. God will serve those who choose to serve their fellow beings. For the Cause of Humanity service, SEF is one of the best to work with. The organization allows each volunteer to select the work the volunteer can perform and each member provides necessary function to complete the task. This year Murali Ji, of SEF ask to see if we as volunteer would be interested in taking a part in 15th of August India Day parade with our own float. Once I communicated to Muraliji that with my back ground and business we can produce decoration for the float displaying the Theme for which SEF stands for. Volunteers capable of art and Graphics help create the Graphics. Last minute volunteers came to install and decorate the float. Worked all night to be ready for the Parade. This kind of dedication is unique to SEF.

SEF is vision for 20-20 by 2020 is one of the greatest visions , I have seen in my entire life. It is sad to see people becoming blind when the illness is curable by as little as $10 a person. I have seen the Hospitals they run in Various places in India ; Great hospitals with latest Hitech equipement and high class dedicated doctors and para medical staff. One visit to the "free Ward" in any of their hospitals is so moving and touches your heart. Seening the smile in a 5 year boy who cluld not see well or even a 70 year old person who has been left blind with Cataract "seeing" again are great experiences. I was also told that , SEF had a large "Band of Brothers" in volunteers who work for the cause free of charge. Overall, one of the greatest non-profits, I have seen. Wish them all the luck to achieve 20-20 by 2020!!.

I am a volunteer with Sanakara Eye Foundation since 2002. After seeing their ad on TV I started as a donor and was very impressed by the unexpected letter I got from them with details of the person who benefited from the donation. Was very gratifing to see how our dollars actually made a difference in someone's life. So decided to visit their office and learn more about the organization. Once I went to the office and met other volunteers I was hooked to Sankara. It is hard to find sich dedicated and unselfish volunteers working so deligently day and night, day after day for a cause. The volunteers of Sankara are the first to work and the last to seek praise. They see only the cause and nothing else. I see the same level of dedication and approachability from the board chairman to the newest volunteers. It is very gratifying to be a part of such an organization.

They welcome those who want to volunteer with them warmly, and help you quickly get acquainted with the cause, upcoming activities, and welcome your help wherever and however you can help. Their events are centered about raising awareness through cultural and health aware events, which enable those who attend to reap benefits of being involved in an event for their own well-being as well as those of others. I hope to get the chance to further involve myself with the group and their events and am looking forward to seeing that they achieve their goals of opening hospitals and sustaining services in these hospitals.

I did a clinical observership at Sankara Eye Hospital in Coimbatore during summer 2007. The SEF USA staff made sure I had all of the resources to have a successful experience in India. In Coimbatore, I was extremely impressed by the modern, state-of-the-art facilities, dedicated physicians and nurses, and the sheer number of eye camps and free surgeries held in the rural areas surrounding Coimbatore. I received excellent lodging and inexpensive, tasty meals at the canteen, and all of the staff were very caring and nice to me. It was an amazing experience to be able to scrub into surgeries and learn about ophthalmic disorders from a clinical perspective, but also to interact with elderly patients and play with children in the pediatric ward. I genuinely enjoyed the seventeen days I spent at Sankara. In terms of constructive feedback, I would suggest that future observers like myself be paired informally with a nurse or junior staff member to enhance the observing experience so that one does not miss out on interesting aspects of the hospital. I was fortunate enough to be taken under the wing of a very kind nurse named Muthamma, who guided me toward interesting things to see, translated when necessary, and took care of me overall. We are still friends to this day, and I was lucky. Overall, Sankara Eye Foundation USA gave me wonderful tools for an amazing experience abroad.

Well, I was intrigued and started with sporadic donations and have become a regular now. I joined Sankara Eye Foundation as a volunteer in 2005. Initially I was thinking that this would be a good way to give back to the community. Gradually I got involved more and more and haven’t stopped since 2005. It is a lot of hard work by the volunteers – be it hospital projects, events, awareness campaigns! Each and every thing done meticulously so that every penny of the generous donations and support received from the donors is spent well above their expectations. We - the volunteers, donors, supporters - do it and how! Few of the key highlights of this organization are: its Transparency, Follow-up process – be it with patients or donors, Team building and Team spirit, Volunteers, and most importantly, a very noble cause. All these years, I was thinking that even if this work helps bring difference in life of 1 person, it would be all worth it. And when I visited the Anand, Gujarat SEF hospital in January 2009, I was in awe at looking at the hospital and the numerous patients it was helping and that moment made me feel that all the 4 years and endless long nights of working have come to fruition. It was that one aha moment that I would never forget in my life. Volunteering for SEF has been a life changing experience for me.

I grew up with SEF. As a 10 year old back in 1998, my family's living room served as the headquarters. I used to answer the home phone with, "This is Sankara Eye Foundation". Volunteers used to drop in all the time and if no volunteers showed up on a given day, I remember thinking how empty the house seemed. Those very same volunteers are now like family to me. I have seen volunteers meet, get married, and have children. I have seen--with my own two eyes--the organization slowly grow to where it is today. With SEF's help, almost 100,000 people will have their vision restored this year. From just one hospital in Coimbatore, there are now eight hospitals all over India with plans to keep on expanding. Personally, there have been ups and downs. I have resented SEF for taking so much of my parents' time. Yet seeing first-hand the results every time I visit the hospitals in India, how can I possibly resent this thing that does so much good? I truly believe with all my heart that SEF will achieve its mission:"Vision 20/20 by the year 2020".

Everytime I felt it and do feel it is worth my time, my family time, and efforts - as able to see the continuous success of Sankara Eye Foundation, in building and maintaining the momentum to work or donate towards the great cause of providing vision to hundred of thousands of people - and Sankara Eye Foundation tirelessly continue to march towards ambitious and magnanimous goal of eradicating curable blindness. I have been a member of Sankara Eye Foundation family of volunteers for last 7 years. these last 7 years have given me more than i supposedly should have given to this charity organization. This a non profit organization with a noble cause to eradicate curable blindness in India but the beauty of this cause is that, it opens our inner eyes and has made me humble. Organization has grown year after year with number of free eye surgeries going from 10K in 1998 to planned 100K in 2009. The life lessons leraned and relationships build here will last with for the rest of my life.

I am blessed to have been introduced to Sankara Eye Foundation about 10 years ago. We started with one hospital and about 8,000 FREE eye operations per year. Over these years, from small and simple goals to assisting one hospital we have set our mission to build a state of art Eye Institution in every State in India. With a goal to conducting one million free operations per year. Our mission is 20/20 by the year 2020, driven by our desire to eradicate curable blindness from India, towards this goal we are and will continue to help other organizations with similar intentions. Journey so far has been filled with fun and gratification, we are looking forward to many more years of this journey and reaching our goals. Please come join us in this noble work, along with hard work we promise you lots of fun and building friendship that will last a lifetime.

I had been receiving the newsletters of Sankara Eye Foundation for a couple of years and had been aware of the noble nature of their cause of eradicating avoidable blindness. However, it took close interactions with some of their dedicated (devoted, rather) volunteers and office-bearers for me to get involved myself along with my family. With two young kids, my wife and I have very little spare time. However, this is one cause for which we are willing to go the extra mile. If you are looking for a worthy cause to get involved in, please consider donating to SEF and better yet, get involved as a volunteer.

I recently stated volunteering with Sankara Eye Foundation. I attended a Dandia event that was very well organzied and at a large scale that brought families together to celebrate and dance the night away. As we setup booths, it is refreshing to hear from people who stop by the booths and tell us that they have been donors for a while and truly appreciate the work Sankara is doing. I am proud to spend my time working with Sankara to fulfill their vision of Vision 20/20. The volunteers work hard and tirelessly to support Sankara and you can see the enthusiasm and their passion for SEF. Go SEF team!

My wife Visala and I have been volunteering for this great organization since 2002 and we are glad that we have associated with such a well run organization which aims to eradicate curable blindness in India by year 2020, if not sooner. Strength of our organization mainly comes from our dedicated volunteers who works tirelessly towards the noble cause of "Vision 20/20 by 2020". Then our asset is our donors who like what we do and the feedback we provide and continue to support our mission of eradicating curable blindness in India. We always get re-energized going through the case studies of how we are making a difference in the lives of many under privileged people who otherwise couldn't afford to get proper health care. Visala and I, and now our 3 yrs son Siddhartha love to volunteer for SEF in the years to come till we eradicate curable blindness in India.

I have been volunteering for Sankara Eye Foundation for the past 4 years and each day I learn something new. The trust I get in this organization is amazing. The leadership qualities they teach us with hands on experience is unmatchable. From the very first day, they trusted my work and for any project we do, the SEF team is behind us. This is the organization where our board members sit down with volunteers and mail newsletters and fill up Prasad bags. There is no hierachy here. I joined SEF when they just took over the Gujarat Hospital Project. It took us three years to have the hospital up and running. But every promise SEF made was fulfilled. The donors who visited our hospital were so impressed, they became repeat donors. This was all achieved without making any fuss. Where else will I find an charity who fulfills every promise they make and keeps the highest level of professionalism? I invite all of you to join this movement and help us achieve VISION 2020 BY 2020.

There are things that the government can do and then there are simply things that independently run organizations with true broad vision and selfless leadership can achieve. Those two define sankara eye foundation. I was watching the shamu show at sea world today and the entire show was designed around one word - BELIEVE !!!' and that's what SEF is all about. SEF has great pool of people working seamlessly together towards a great cause. I started volunteering recently have excellent experience working with them and learning things as well as having fun at the same time. The event was SEF Dandia 2009 in bay area, CA which more than 10000 residents of the area attended over 4 total number of events. These event is one of the best Dandia event in US I have seen and it does double fold work of (1) getting people to know about the great Cause of SEF of providing eye surgery to people in the India who cant afford it otherwise and generating good donations (2) Doing this with style and with a splash of professionalism.... while not missing the fun part which is also essential and motivating to people who donate and volunteer. Volunteer I met at SEF were executives, managers, engineers, owners, employees of bay area tech companies and responsible residents of Bay area and ages of volunteers were all the way from 8-9 years old kids to 60-70 year old seniors. The best thing about SEF is the volunteers (other name given to them is Visonaries and yes they truly are) are very telanted and are always looking for ways to improve the way they contribute to SEF in a very detail oriented manner and also are on the edge of adopting new technology to promote the great cause. After conclusion of the above mentioned event I ended up remembering 30-35 new people's name and knowing them which was great. This was my first experience and I made many friends at the event. I would surely work with SEF in future.

Sankara Eye center ia one of the first and probably very few private hospitals doing dedicated work for the poor. The USP of this hospital was and still istht they extend the same care and treatment to people of all classes-rich or poor Each and every poor patient is also treated with the same care a rich would get.Snkarta eye foundation, an organization started by a few NRI-s,who believed in this good cause and thought it would be a shame if good work like this could not reach many more people in different parts of the country. Sankara Eye foundation , USA started imploring the good people of USA to contribute to this cause..The response was incredible and the vision of the foundation to launch 20 hospitals by 2020 started taking shape and catch momentum. This foundation has proved to one and all that if you havre a noble cause, strong determination and a great volunteering team to back you up you can achieve what you set out to achieve. For any program to scale up to greater lengths a lot more organizational skills and involvement of the local community the hospital is in is imperative. The foundation should probably consider strengthening its volunteering base in India too and motivate the volunteers here to help out the hospital in implementing its programs, running the centers with more professionalism and corporate precission. That will bring in a lot of transparency and quality into the work too. They could also consider bringing in corporates to conduct workshops for the managment staff in leadership, administrational and HR related matters. Then the foundation will have a handle on all the departments and I feel this will help in the running of the hospitals. I have personally seen how the foundation conducts its meetings and events and saw a lot of comradeie among the founding mwmbers and the young volunteers. Probably this quality is what endears many to the foundation. Any activity done from the heart with all honesty has to become successful. The foundation has all these ingredients.

I have been associated with Sankara Eye Foundation for the last 6 years. I was just a donor to begin with and was then introduced to this organization by a friend. Its been a wonderful journey from then on. The mission (Vision 20/20 by the year 2020) of this organization is so powerful that it makes you want to work hard to achieve this goal. The board members are so motivating and are always open to ideas that can help the organization expand and grow rapidly. Various events and activities are organized to raise funds and are very efficiently managed. 4-star rating by Charity Navigator for a sound fiscal management is a proof of that. The dedication in service to the public and poor is noteworthy. Our partner in India, Sankara Eye Society prove this every day. Its no surprise that they received the FICCI Healthcare Excellence Award in the category of "Best Community Driven Healthcare Programme". It gives me immense pleasure to be part of this great organization which has given me more in life than what I have contributed. I'm sure I will continue to be with them for however long I can.

I have only recently begun to volunteer with Sankara Eye Foundation; however, since my parents are frequent donors, I have long been familiar with Sankara Eye Foundation and its mission. I have always wondered how so many needy people can be helped through the efforts of just one group of people. And here's how: dedicated volunteers willing to put in a sincere effort for a cause they believe in, incredible organization and preparation, and the ability to reach out for the community's support. I am very impressed with the work of Sankara Eye Foundation, and am looking forward to becoming more involved as a volunteer.

I admire the work of this organization. By seeing their work and the contribution to the poor in restoring the eye sights to many, I become the permanent member of this great community. My son's eye sight defect has been identified by one of this society's hospital during their teams visit to his college. He has taken treatment at their hospital and his sight has been perfected. I also did a complete eye checkup at their hospital and seen their professional approach in treating with great care. Great work, wish you all success in your 2020 goal.

I have been involved with SEF for more than 6 years now. I got to know about the excellent work SEF is doing in India in one of the fund raisers I had attended. SEF operational model and grand vision of Vision 20/20 by the year 2020 greatly attracted me. The fact that they want to give world class eye care to every Indian was just excellent. Their operating model of making hospitals self sufficient to cater to both free patients and paid patients was something very unique and something I believed in. I started volunteering with the event management team within SEF. The leadership team within SEF greatly encourages new volunteers and gave me a lot of opportunities to lead the organization. After participating in some events in varied roles I was given an opportunity to lead one event from start to finish. This was a once in a life time experience where you get to work with all the volunteers of SEF. The team is just great to work with and they rally around the leader and ensure the events are success. One of SEFs greatest assets and strengths are these tireless volunteers who just want to give back something to their motherland. SEF as an organization is absolutely great to be associated with. The leadership team ensures that they are in touch with volunteers and inform them of all the latest developments happening with different projects. The doctors from India make sure they are in touch with the volunteers here and we have face to face meeting with them whenever they visit the US. As volunteer we are given a constant feedback of how our work here is impacting the mission and helping SEF march toward the goal of Vision 20/20 by 2020. Our Chairman Mr. Murali Krishnamurthy is a great teacher and mentor. He is constantly looking at ways of making SEF successful and helps us, volunteers in whatever way possible. He encourages us to take initiatives and never lets an opportunity to give us credit for what we have done how ever small the work may be. He has taught each one of us to always think of the big picture and our final goal in whatever we do with SEF. He is very accessible and is always leading us from the front. The work ethics and work environment at SEF is par excellence. Any activity that is taken up by the volunteers is followed through with at most dedication and precision. Processes are followed to ensure absolute transparency. The volunteers have great fun in whatever they do also. One of the greatest assets I have gained from my association with SEF is the great friends I have made. All in all my association with SEF has been one of the most enriching experience my entire life and I plan to be associated in future to with this great cause in whatever little way I can.

I am proud and happy to be in this organization for more than 15yrs. I have been in this organization since my college days in India. I had volunteered in going to various eye camps conducted by Sankara eye hospital Coimbatore, India. My whole family including my daughter and son who are 8 and 4 are also involved in volunteering for this great organization. What I've enjoyed the most about my experience in this organization is the amount of Dedication, commitment and involvement by all the other volunteers when running the organization. Volunteers work together as one family towards a common cause.

The organization raises funds for a very noble cause - giving vision to the people who are poor & blind. The cause is what attracted me to the organization. The charity is rated 4 star on charity navigator - and as its volunteer one can see why. There is a high level of emphasis on ethics, integrity and accountability both when admitting new members or for sources of money. Financials of the organization are organized with utmost integrity and care. Volunteers work together as one family towards a common cause. While the organization is primarily based in San Jose there is a very active attempt to grow the organization beyond Bay area into Texas, East Coast, LA, Seattle and other areas.

Sankara Eye Foundation is like a huge family. We all work together for the cause of vision 20/20 by the year 2020. SEF regularly conducts various events in and around Bay area (California) and other parts of US too. These events help in raising funds for the organization and publicizing its cause. The events also helps the volunteers to develop team work, team management skills, contacts and exposure to lot of different new things. It gives lot of fun both to us and the public who attend these events. SEF is a well organized organisation where there is equality among all volunteers from the top level management to the fresh young volunteers.

Great organization working with dedication for achieving vision 20/20 by 2020. SEF aim of providing free eye surgeries to the poor has grown over the years and so is the number of hospitals built for free eye care to the poor.

I volunteered recently for this organization. Few things that I found very impressive were: 1. Dedicated volunteers 2. Honest organization with drive to help the needy 3. Creative ability and enthusiasm to come up with ways to help the needy. 4. Making it all fun to work with them was the best.

I've been a longtime supporter and volunteer at Sankara. This organization has made great stride in terms of service to the needy and expanding it's satisfied donor base in U.S. With a clear mission to eradicate curable blindness in India, Sankara has been building state of the art Eye Hospitals in India, organizing weekly out-reach camps in rural areas and giving the gift of vision to thousands of needlessly blind ppor folks. A must-support organization
