I have been volunteering with Paws for 19 years. I continue to do so because of the love and compassion which is given to the cats and dogs in our care. Paws works very hard to find these animals a forever home
I adopted two kitten brothers recently through PAWS. You can tell they really care for their animals and followed up with me afterward. Very responsive to emails and photos I have sent and are genuinely concerned about the welfare of their animals, even after adoption.
We've adopted several cats from PAWS over the years- each time they have helped us pick a cat that will fir in with our family- a cat whose life they have saved - a cat who probably would have died if they hadn't stepped in - we are eternally greatful
PAWS is so grateful to have families such as your open their hearts and homes. Ultimately it's you and alike saving these lives by giving them loving homes.
I have adopted several animals from PAWS - their volunteers do a great job of matching animals to homes- and they foster so they know the animals personality. They do an awful lot with very little money and are always helpful and caring. -
PAWS is truly dedicated to turning around the lives of the animals it rescues and fosters. The volunteers invest personal time and resources to achieving their goals. Their only desire is to do more for more.
We adopted three litter mates from them a few months ago. I have never met a more caring, devoted group of people. The love they show the animals was obvious from the get go. We have been blessed to share our home with many cats over the years, but I must say that this group of kittens did not need any type of adjustment time. They were so well socialized, they bonded with us immediately. The fact that the PAWS volunteers foster animals in their homes, makes all the difference. I tell everyone about PAWS if I hear they want to adopt.
I have been involved with PAWS for over 15 years and believe it to be one of the best animal rescue organizations "paws down". PAWS has helped animals for over 30 years and is at it full blown.
Animal rescue is 24/7 and that is the approach the volunteers take, year round.
I have been involved with PAWS and part of their 'cat group' for 15 years. From the moment I first "stepped into the shelter when we had the building it became a huge part of my life. "PAWS people really go above and beyond to help whatever comes our way. We repeatedly hear that we were the first to respond or a lot of the times the only ones to help in a personal way to either help directly or point them in the right direction. Although we are not animal control, we go on-sight to rescue animals, visit people's home to discuss their rescue needs and deliver their adopted cats or dogs! We invest our time and resources into saving lives and helping people with their companion and stray animals. We dedicate many ours each week day responding to rescue calls and doing community outreach and can be physically seen with our animals at our adoption events which take place each weekend at multiple locations.
My name is richard d. Im an animal control officer with 18 years experience. I got my start with PAWS back in 1997. I now work in northern bergen county, but I will never forget paws for helping me get my foot in the door.
I have fostered for PAWS for several years. My contact, Kristina O is the best. She spends many hours of her personal time tirelessly looking for suitable adopters. She ensures the cats and kittens she brings to adoption events are in peak health, having been tested, given shots and are parasite-free.
I have been volunteering with Paws since 2001. I have adopted 2 dogs and several cats from Paws. I continue to work with Paws because of the care and love given to all the dogs and cats before they find their forever homes.
I have been a volunteer with Paws since 2001. I have also adopted a dog and 3 cats from Paws. No animals are written off because they are initially fearful of humans. I can attest to that because I adopted a cat who was initially unpettable..She is a lap cat now who loves to be petted. Thanks to Paws, she and other animals like her get a second chance.
We got a cat from PAWS. They let us bring our dog to the facility so that they could meet to see if they could live together and be friends. We felt supported throughout the process.
I adopted siblings about a year ago from PAWS. The adoption process was easy and a very nice experience. The volunteers I met, and the foster mommy of my new kitties, were compassionate and devoted to what they do. My kitties were rescued from a horder who neglected them so badly that they had to be treated for several diseases prior to adoption. I have happy healthy kitties that have acclimated to there new home wonderfully.
Thanks for saving them for me!
My family has adopted a few cats from PAWS over the years - a first rate operation! Keep up the good work!
PAWS staff loves the animals and tries to place them with people who will do the same. I appreciate that they are so careful in placing animals with humans who might share lives with them. The care that cats and dogs receive while waiting to be adopted is excellent as is availability and follow-up, if necessary.
I have adopted cats from PAWS and will continue to do so. They are my source!
This group includes some of the most dedicated, hard-working and compassionate people I have ever met. I have known several of them for many years, and my mom adopted a cat from PAWS. I know there are a lot of great rescues out there, which is very much appreciated, but this group is one at at the top of that list! The sacrifices they make, the way they jump into action to help at a moment's notice and their long-standing dedication are a credit to the world of rescue, and animals in need, everywhere.
PAWS is an amazing group of dedicated, knowledgeable and extremely compassionate volunteers. I recently adopted a kitten from PAWS, a little stray who was being fed in someone's backyard but needed a home. PAWS trapped the kitty and had her spayed. Volunteer Kristina picked her up from my home early in the morning, took her to be spayed before she went to work, then brought my new cat back to me later that day because she knew I couldn't as I care for my elderly mother.
If only there were more organizations like PAWS!
PAWS is very near and dear to my heart. The volunteers and fosters are angels for animals. Kristina works round the clock saving animals lives. Fostering, TNR, Feeding colony cats, Is out in the middle of the night sometimes to save or trap kittens/cats, At various locations for pet adoptions or home visits, Giving meds, Injections, and much more. Kristina has taken many calls from me at all different hours for questions or advice I needed. I cannot say enough great things about PAWS.
Simply put, I love PAWS. Last year, after a beloved kitty passed on after many years with me, I wasn't sure whether I could ever take on the responsibility for another cat. However, I always remembered the PAWS volunteers who were always at my local PETCO and how they just seemed so committed to their cause. So I went on the PAWS website and started looking at photos. I began emailing a couple of volunteers including Kristina about possibly fostering a kitty. I then went over to PETCO to meet Kristina and I fell in love with Matt Damon. We instantly connected. A few days later, I was worried when Matt seemed listless and I contacted Kristina who immediately responded and she advised me to take him to the local vet (this was on a Sunday). He was diagnosed with a fever and was treated and has been fine ever since. I stay in close touch with Kristina about Matt and share photos with her and the rest of PAWS. Their love and compassion for the little ones even inspired me to hold a yoga fundraiser for PAWS, which was awesome and I look forward to continuing to support PAWS, Kristina and all other volunteers. They feel like family to both Matt and me!
I met one of the paws volunteers, kristina, through a mutual friend. Kristina introduced me to my beautiful cat mattox. I was originally going to foster him, but fell in love. Mattox had surgery for a bite right before I received him. Kristina took him back and forth to the vet, and continually checked on his progress. A year later, deciding mattox needed some company, I adopted donatello. I must say, the dedication that kristina puts forth for EVERY animal she helps, speaks volumes for the work she does with PAWS. two years later now, with my beautiful cats, we can still count on Kristina to be there for us. I highly recommend anyone looking to give a cat a forever home, should first and foremost contact PAWS and their dedicated volunteers. Thank you all, for helping me to expand my family!
I started volunteering with PAWS in 2005. Incredibly dedicated, compassionate, and caring people that make up this organization. The work is hard but rewarding and makes a difference in the life of so many people and animals.
PAWS is by far my favorite animal rescue group, the volunteers do amazing work every day.
Several years back PAWS Volunteer Kristina introduced me to my little boy Tony, and I am forever grateful.
I found PAWS back in 2007, and fell in love with them all! Volunteer Kristina is so amazingly helpful and caring, these shelter pets are so blessed to have her on their side.
I got my babyboy Tony 5 years ago with her help, he had been in a bad situation and she rescued him, I dont know what I'd do without him.
PAWS is by far my favorite shelter to go to, to visit, to try to help......not just a No-kill, they treat these pets like family until they can be adopted.
PAWS does awesome work. They are always ready to lend a hand.
We have adopted three cats from PAWS over the years, and all of them are the most affectionate and playful companions that anyone could ask for. The people who run this organization are truly caring individuals. When we were ready for an animal, we asked the volunteers to match us to a cat that suited our preferences, and not only were they able to meet our expectations, but exceed them in every imaginable way.
PAWS of Montclair is a wonderful organization totally dedicated to the well being of rescued pets. They work diligently to encourage pet adoption and need more people willing to foster pets awaiting adoption as they no longer have a building of their own.
I adopted my cat Buddy from them. Buddy has special needs as he has a chronic urinary problem that has him strictly on prescription food for the rest of his life. When Buddy had a life threatening incident and he required surgery, the cost was going to be way more than I could handle at that time. PAWS members, so dedicated to these animals and an apparent love for Buddy (how could you not, he's a great cat.), they helped me defray part of the cost with some of them giving from their own pockets which helped greatly in taking care of the balance still due!
This is a very dedicated organization that I cannot say enough good things about. If I ever get the chance to be in that position, I would certainly give back for what they did for me!
I have long known several people associated with PAWS Montclair and never cease being impressed by their boundless dedication and caring for animals that are in need of a home. I just fostered, and then adopted, two wonderful sister kittens, Iris and Ivy, from PAWS. Everyone I dealt with, especially Val and Kristina, were extremely generous and accommodating with their time, advice, and help. All the volunteers I had contact with genuinely cared about the welfare of their animals. PAWS stands out as it is a no-kill shelter and relies entirely on donations! Iris and Ivy are extremely socialized (PAWS' effort) and have brought a tremendous amount of joy into my home!
These guys are the best. Their facility is clean and organized. If you find I stray they don't turn you away. They actually help you with finding a place. I have 4 PAWS cats. They do their homework and check up on the dog or cat they adopted out because they really do care. This place rocks.
I have been a volunteer with PAWS since 2001 and in that time, the number of animals we have rescued and rehomed is amazing; We continue to do this work every day and we are lucky to meet so many wonderful people that help us do this work; Without the fosters, supporters and adopters, we could never do this work!
I first started volunteering for PAWS in 2001; mainly outside events, like the holiday bazaar and wrapping for Barnes and Nobles- then in 2003 I found a stray and brought him to PAWS; I started working part time at the shelter in February of 2004 and continued through until Dec 31st, 2008, when we moved. I am now a volunteer who assists in all aspects of kitten/cat adoptions. I am very dedicated to PAWS and helping the animals of the world. The people I have met through PAWS, the adopters and the pets I have been able to rescue because of PAWS has been amazing. Dr Cameron and his staff help us to do the work that we do, without him, we would not be able to do this! So many animals are better off because of the work we do at PAWS!
My second cat upon moving to Montclair was a darling little kitten from PAWS. The staff was wonderful during the adoption, meeting us after closing to pick her up. After a few days with our first cat, we realized they would get along fine.
Since then, we've shared pictures and stories with PAWS and have gotten to know staff. Friends, as well as ourselves, have adopted again and again from them. We all keep an eye out to see where they will be next!
My sister and I heard of PAWS through a friend, and volunteered to socialize the cats (Volunteer Kitty Petter). You could tell the place was well cared for because others were there to welcome us. We saw the cutest little kitten sitting quietly and wanted to adopt her on the spot. The lady at PAWS was an awesome help, holding the kitten while we made arrangements. She even met us the next evening after hours to complete the adoption. They want your pet to be happy and healthy- the follow up exam and entire process shows they are committed to those they serve. Pixie is wonderful, one of our two adopted kitties.
Paws is a great organization. I'm so happy our paths crossed and I am forever grateful for them because we adopted our amazing puppy "mia" who we changed her name to cannoli from them. Paws is very professional and take what they do very seriously and at the same time I felt like I knew them right after meeting with the women. Carole set up the two meetings we had and both were a success. Not only did they make sure my fiancé and i were the right parents for her but they also made sure our dogs and cannoli would be happy together. I really appreciated all the time and advice they gave me. I'm so happy to have dealt with them it was very easy going and enjoyable. I tell everyone about them and I would so recommend PAWS to any one looking for a dog or cat!
I have had friends use this group and they are absolutely terrific. My friends both were in tough situations and this PAWS Montclair really came through for them. They are very organized and a pleasure to work with!
When my aunt passed away, I spent a couple of months trying to find a new home for Winslow, her lab mix. After absolutely no prospects, a friend put me in touch with PAWS Montclair. Within a few days, I had two people interested and within the next few weeks a couple more. After meeting a few people, Winslow has since found his new forever home. PAWS Montclair was there every step of the way offering guidance and support for every. They were extremely helpful and I cannot say enough to thank them.
We adopted our amazing dog Bucky from PAWS. They treated us so kindly and made sure we were a perfect match for this pooch!
My cat and friend of ten years, Kelly died about two years ago. After about a year I decided it might be time to adopt again. A friend sensed that and slipped me a newsclipping about a two-year old recent mother of four kittens, all of whom had been adopted. She, however, was still staying with a foster family. PAWS of Montclair had put the announcement in a local paper. I called and went to see her the next day in the pouring rain. she was adorable and a little shy, a little vulnerable I adopted her on-the-spot. We've been great friends ever since. My best image of her is that ... whenever I see her she runs to my bay window to be rubbed in the sunlight. Delightful! Many thanks to PAWS for giving her to me.
I work for the Bergen County Cooperative Library System. During the summer of 2010 we posted a list of dog titles on BCCLSVisor, our online readers’ advisory tool.
Because my daughter is associated with PAWS of Montclair, as a volunteer and foster mom, we added an interesting touch to our list. For each title mentioned we linked the book title to a photo of a dog that was up for adoption in New Jersey. This list received the most hits of any of our readers’ advisory lists. Each time a dog got adopted during this two-month period our webmaster placed an ‘adopted’ banner across the dog’s photo.
There was a lot of excitement and it caused our staff and public to repeatedly go back to our list for an update on the adoptions.
This project and its enhancements was thanks to PAWS of Montclair ‘s website.

When my daughter & I decided our 2 year old rescue dog Lola needed a friend, we searched local adoption shelters and visited the PAWS website regularly until the day we spotted Creme Brulee. Since there was a planned adoption day at a local Petco, we went to meet Creme and the other pets. I was immediately struck by the friendly, helpful volunteers and their obvious love of the animals they were so hoping to place in loving homes. We arranged for a home visit to see if Creme would mix well with Lola. First meeting didn't exactly go well, but our volunteers were undeterred. Second visit - better, but not great. Third visit - better, making progress. Their knowledge, determination, and perseverance was limitless, and on the fourth visit, Creme stayed with us. We now have 2 wonderful dogs who have meshed beautifully, but without the hard work and concern from the PAWS volunteers, the story could have ended sadly. They never gave up, they never complained, they KNEW they could make this happen. Creme (now renamed "Roux') is possibly the sweetest dog I've ever owned and in a matter of 3 months, she and Lola are best buddies. I can't say enough about this wonderful collection of animal lovers and have recommended them over and over. Their kind compassion is something I will never, ever forget and they are so deserving of every accolade they receive!
wonderful organization...love my little one that I adopted!!
This past year, I had the opportunity to foster a mother cat and her five kittens, which PAWS saved from the streets of Essex county. PAWS provided medical care and food for the cats. Once the kittens were weaned, PAWS found permanent homes for the mom and all of her kittens with loving and fully vetted families. I am amazed by the time PAWS volunteers give to the organization, helping cats and dogs in so many different ways.
I have known the PAWS people in my community for many years. Their organization not only adopted out four of the most loving, grateful cats to our family, but the leaders and volunteers of this group have assisted me in countless ways. When I moved, they found and delivered carriers to my door; when I've needed information, they've returned calls and emails immediately, and when I asked for help getting animals placed, their diligence and dedication was unsurpassed. The work these people do for a variety of urban towns, where no-kill animal shelters are virtually no-more, is 24 hours a day/7 days a week. With funds cut in our densely populated area in New Jersey, the PAWS people activated to keep their vital work going with numerous, well- publicized fundraising events. PAWS works tirelessly to trap-neuter-return feral cats, help with getting animals to vet appointments, foster, adopt, and place very sick animals in safe sanctuaries around the east coast when nobody has room. They have shown so much gratitude when I give any kind of donation, large or small. PAWS' endorsement and affiliation by our local vet, is another reason I so proudly associate with this organization. It gives me great pleasure to write on behalf of this small organization that makes a gigantic impact on our community.
