The MLLES Alumnae is a necessary force within the Houston community. I would like to personally thank all of the alumnae, volunteers, sponsors and parents who help make this organization a force to be reckoned with for our young ladies of color. Thank you for your patience, time, advice, donations, and encouraging words not only to the students we serve but also to the Board, Co-Directors, Mentors and Committee Chairs who put in work year-round. This organization provides sisters to those who have none, friends to those who thought they didn't relate to other women, and mentors to those in need of guidance. At the end of the day, The MLLES Alumnae is a family that is rearing more than 250 children on 14 high school campuses. THANK YOU!
The Mlles Alumnae group is is one that should be replicated across the nation. The goals, objectives, consistency, and dedication of this group have helped so many young women to grow into productive participants in our society. I appreciate their efforts and believe that any accolade they can receive is well-deserved.
It is an honor and pleasure to work with THE MLLES Alumnae, Inc to provide programming to teen girls of color across the Houston area. It's amazing to see so many women give unselfishly of their time to nurture and mentor teen girls.
This past weekend the MLLES hosted the 7th Annual Citywide Conference. It was one of the best yet! Teen girls get to participate in various workshops free of charge. This year's workshops focused on First Lady Michelle Obama's 'Let's Move' Campaign and involved nutrition, fitness, health/hygiene, and public speaking! It's a great opportunity to see positive images and influences in the lives of teen girls of color!! This organization is helping to shape young women who will be leaders of tomorrow!
When they helped us out they were very polite and caring. The never questioned us and did everything with a smile in their face. Even though it was community service, they were very much enjoying themselves and even helped us enjoy the event a little more. Some even stayed until the end and helped us put up everything and clean. I really appreciate their service. When i heard about these reviews i just had to participate. Thank you
This organization has chapters in several Houston area high schools. The purpose of the group is to foster a spirit of learning, cooperation, sisterhood and service to others. The organization is run by volunteers that donate their time, talents and monies to mentor area high school girls. I have seen the organization grow and continue as girls graduate and new ones become involved. The graduates continue to advise and volunteer when possible. The spirit of the advisors is remarkable and a beacon to us all. They continue to mentor without fanfare or recognition!
I've seen these young women live the values they stand for by providing their time, money, life stories and living examples of what it means to be successful and most importantly, happy with who you are as a woman. It truly is inspiring to see and worthy of the credit awarded.
The MLLES Alumnae is an AWESOME community service organization dedicated to uplifting the community. I am more than honored to be a part of this prestigious group of women helping young ladies reach higher heights.
This is a great organization. They teach you how to dress professionally, also how a young lady should act and carry herself. They host a college prep every year to prepare students who are about to enter college. They are also very dedicated in serving the community.
The MLLES Alumnae, Inc. and the young the group that they support, The Mademoiselles, has operated in Houston schools for over 40 years as a service and support group for predominately African-American young ladies. They participate in numerous leadership, business, and community service programs that seek to develop leadership and the emotional well-being of the young ladies in the organization.
For the last 7 years, they have hosted a city-wide conference that brings together all of their local chapters (over 100 young women) for a one day leadership conference. I have participated in the conference three times, as a member of their male panel. The work that they do significantly changes the trajectory of the lives of many of the young ladies because they young women in their organization gain access to a life beyond their neighborhood, the trappings of urban America, or the perfunctory roles afforded to those without access. The young women in the program have gone on to be successful college students and professionals in many fields. Without the support of the Miles Alumnae, I am sure that their lives would be totally different.
The Mademoiselles Alumnae is great because they still find time to help high school young ladies to become more of a lady for the future and they are always giving back. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't know the proper ways to dress for a job and I wouldn't have a strong sisterbond that I do now have with my friends.
I've had the honor of being a part of the Mademoiselles Organization since 2009 and I'm thankful for every lesson learned. I credit the Mademoiselles for guiding me on a path of a successful young woman. Each mentor of the alumnae has set the bar high on what I can accomplish in my career and how I can make a difference in my community. The Mademoiselles gives young women an opportunity to grow in areas that'll benefit them in the future. Regularly I think back to the business apparel tips or college advice given in workshops the Alumnae gave. During high school the Alumnae were the role models for me and now that I'm entering college & in a business setting, I can be the example to others. The Mademoiselles produces a great cycle of successful, determined young women. I'm proud to be member of this 52 year legacy.
The programs and events that the Mlles Alumnae provide are very empowering to the Houston community. From their Project Prom, City Wide Conferences, and Educational seminars, there is a wealth of knowledge for young women to use in their everyday lives.
MLLES ALUMNAE is a great organization that provides great opportunities to young ladies, as well as positive female role models. They host a variety of workshops and seminars including topic such as educational and health. I was apart of the Mademoiselles Social & Service Organization in HS. I'm glad to see the the traditions of community service and finer womanhood are being continued through the Alumnae Organization.
I began working with organization about four years ago and I can truly say that they are doing a great work! Many young ladies are on the right track now versus the road they were treading down toward mediocrity. They were given hope and now know that the circumstance in which they were born does not have to determine their future outcome. The sky is the limit and they are flying high :)
The MLLES Alumnae, Inc. was founded because of the significantly positive impact that the Mademoiselles organization had on the lives of its founders and other young ladies of color during their high school years.
When I joined the Mademoiselles Club in high school (circa 1996), I could not even fathom the level of influence that it would have on my personal and professional growth. Being around such positive people, serving the community, being exposed to college life all over the country, holding leadership positions, and the list goes on thoroughly enhanced my high school and thus undergraduate and now graduate school careers.
Within the MLLES Alumnae, Inc., we cultivate even greater experiences for all of the Mademoiselles. We strive to ensure that the accomplishments of the young ladies of our future far outweigh our own. Through personal and professional development workshops and scholarships at our annual conferences, intermittent seminars when and where we see a need, and continual service and social events; we equip them with the knowledge and resources to succeed in all facets of life -- from public speaking to relationships to exercise and nutrition. It is our intention that each young lady not only leaves more confident and informed, but she is also positively infectious to her community and environment.
I have been apart of the Mademoiselles organization since 1997. During my tenure as a high school student, I grew tremendously in self-development and leadership. So much so, that within my senior year, not only did I hold the position of President for the organization, but I was elected to serve on the Superintendent AdHOC committee for my school. This was a prestigious appointment where I became the voice of the entire school and relayed issues and concerns directly to the Superintendent for advancement of education and improvement of the community within the school.
These experiences transpired into more leadership opportunities throughout my college years and even into my adulthood. Now as an accomplished career person, author, motivational speaker, and mentor, I have made it my duty to give back to the organization in ways that continues to strengthen my character and charge me with an even greater responsibility: strengthening the pipeline that provided me a conduit to continued success.
I would like to see this organization continue to expand across the nation because the foundation and principals of the organization could empower more young people like myself. I realize that this will entail a lot of work and discipline on our part as leaders of the Alumnae sector, but I truly believe in the vision and I am living proof of it's many works. I credit this organization for being my foundation for developing into the young lady I am today and my greatest desire for this organization is to become a world-wide staple by which parents encourage their daughters to mimic and embrace.
I became a member of this organization in 2003 and I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The Mademoiselles Social Club taught me most of my leadership and people skills that I use daily in my career. The MLLES Alumnae Inc. has even furthered those skills and my hidden talents through giving me the opportunity to work with some amazing people. The Mademoiselles organization was a vital part of my high school years and I was grateful for the opportunity to become a member then, and I am even more grateful for the opportunity to work with/for them now.
I have been committed to this organization for over 14 years. While The Mademoiselle Alumnae, Inc. began hosting conferences 7 years ago, the Mademoiselles student organization was founded in 1960 - creating a long lineage of leaders. I am honored to be a part of this movement.
As a member of the Mademoiselles in high school, I was thoroughly excited to learn that Shannan and Brandi had decided to start The MLLES Alumnae, Inc. to give back to an organization that helped them (and so many of us) become the women that we are today. Seven years ago, they created this non profit to build a culture of unit between every high school Mademoiselle chapter in Houston. The MLLES offers workshops to young ladies that help build their character, business saavy and people oriented skills. I look forward to every April to be a part of the great vision of this nonprofit organization. I love how current high school girls can connect and build relationships with former Mademoiselles. Aside from the conference, seminars are held throughout the school year to help continue to foster growth within the young ladies. On top of all this, young ladies are shown the importance of giving back to others through a variety of community service events. Every year the conferences and seminars are bigger and better and I can only imagine what great blessings await the future of this awesome organization!
A mademoiselle is what I wanna be! This Alumnae is so giving and so willing to focus on young women of all ethnic groups and diversities. Communities are in need of organizations that will dedicate their time, skills, and abilities to bettering the future of young adults. The great thing about Mlles Alumnae is it is ever changing to meet the constant needs of our young women. I encourage all mothers who care about the mind development of their young ladies to inquire more about this organization and its many benefits. We love you and keep up the good work MLLES ALUMNAE!!!
