In 1989 I was diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumor. It was wrapped around the left optic nerve, the left internal carotid artery, several of the cranial nerves, the pituitary gland, and pushing against the frontal lobe of the brain. The neurosurgeon, Dr. Hal Hankinson of Albuquerque, NM, was able to take out about 90% of it, but three years later it had grown back and the doctors were concerned it might have gone inside the carotid artery. Dr. Robert Spetzler in Phoenix, AZ, operated in October of 1992 and was able to remove all but a very tiny piece of the tumor. However, 21 years later, it had grown back and I needed to have surgery again. The tumor was now also impinging on the right optic nerve. I'd already lost the use of my left eye and now my right eye was in danger. No neurosurgeon in Ohio would operate on it and I was fighting to get financial coverage to get it done by Dr. Spetzler in Phoenix. I had the surgery done in October 2013. Mission4Maureen has helped me tremendously by paying part of my expenses before I went to Phoenix and helping to pay my medical bills from the surgery. They have been extremely supportive!
Mission4Maureen is a wonderful organization that has been extremely helpful and generous to our family. My wife was diagnosed with brain cancer and has been in and out of hospitals, oncology appointments and countless other examinations. In such a physically and emotionally painful process, Mission4Maureen has been a beacon of light both financially and emotionally for our family.
My husband has been battling brain cancer for about a year now, He has been in the hospital every month since we found out. Mission 4 Maureen helped us with some of our bills. You know you never know what life will give you and God sent us a angel with the help that you gave us. I really don't know where we would be with out the help you gave us. I hope to be able to pay back in some way for all the help that was given to us
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Mission4Maureen helped us financially with our past due rent. I don't know what we would have done had they not helped us. It took all of our money to pay for out of state treatment for my husband's inoperable brain tumor. The process was very quick & easy. Mission4Maureen is the best NonProfit Organizations for Brain Tumor assistance that I've found. They are the only organization we have found that was willing to help people suffering from Brain Tumors from all age groups, other organizations were only willing to help children. Mission4Maureen truly deserves to be grant recipients & awarded more funds & donations to help further their reach in helping families suffering from this horrible disease. Mission4Maureen is truly AMAZING!
Mission4Maureen went above and beyond in helping me with my doctor bills. I was not sure if I qualified for assitance for my tumor since it was non cancerous. However, upon calling Mission4Maureen they explained that I would qualify because the tumor is not supposed to be there, and that it was causing unexpected expenses. I had brain surgery in 2010 and then had to have three radiation treatments in December of 2012. I have to have an MRI every six months to monitor the tumor until doctors are confident that the tumor is not going to continue to grow. The bills continue to mount with each MRI, so I called Mission4Maureen. I filled out the application and explained my situation. A couple of weeks after submitting my application I received a letter from the doctor's that I was going to be placed in collections because I was not able to pay my portion of the bill. I called Mission4Maureen and explained my situation and they had me fax the bill to see if we could possibly speed up the process. Mission4Maureen's site clearly states that the application process takes up to four weeks. However, a couple of days later I received a call and letter stating that my application had been accepted and that they would be sending he payment to the doctor. What a relief. I was unaware that groups like Mission4Marueen existed and was not sure what to do with my bills. Thankfully they were able to help me. I will be passing their name on to others that I know have tumors. I am supposed to be attending a brain tumor seminar in West Chester, Ohio and I will definitely mention Mission4Maureen. Sincerely James Scott Stuart
I cannot believe I finally get the financial assistance from Mission4Maureen. They give me hope when I fight so hard with my tumor. I can feel relieve when I take rest everyday. I really appreciated their kindness and help. I will definitely tell everyone about this organization. My family is so grateful that
I am lucky to find Mission4Maureen.
Mission4Maureen helped my fiancee who is battling stage 3 brain cancer by providing needed financial assistance. They are an amazing organization. I searched the internet and contacted numerous organizations for financial assistance and had little luck due to the type of cancer and the grade so we are very grateful for the assistance the Mission4Maureen provided.
My daughter has a brain tumor. We needed some financial assistance with our child and other kids. They graciously paid a few of our larger bills. It really helped ease the burden of having a sick child.
Mission 4 Maureen is an amazing organization that has helped my 22 month old daughter and I tremendously. Because of my first hand experience of having a child with brain cancer, I know how difficult it can be to find people that are willing to offer financial assistance. The day-to-day costs of food and housing can be overwhelming when you're trying to deal with hospital stays, doctors appointments, and just making life "normal." This organization made this task so much easier. I cannot express how grateful I am for their generosity. Because of Mission 4 Maureen, our car payment, gas, and water bills were paid so that they would not be shut-off and/or late. We can breathe a little easier now and that's all thanks to the giving hearts behind this wonderful mission.
My wife was diagnosed in 2007 with a brain tumor. In 2008 she had her first of three brain surgeries to remove the tumor, her most recent surgery was 2012. She has also undergone chemo and radiation and gave birth to our beautiful baby girl in between her first and second surgery. She applied to Mission4Maureen and thankfully was accepted. They have been the greatest help we could ever ask for helping us with our bills and giving us someone to talk with when we needed it. I wish there were more groups out there like Mission4Maureen to help people like they have helped us.
My brother Allen was diagnosed with Glioblastoma brain cancer in May 2011. He has undergone 5 brain tumor surgeries, numerous clinical trials, chemos and some tumor targeted treatments Not only is he fighting the fight for his life so that he can be here for his 2 young sons and wife, he is fighting financially as well. He was "administratively terminated" May this year from his 15 year job under a "hardship clause" because he is on disability and does not have a date to return to work. They have been struggling financially while he has been on disability and now have $1700 Cobra medical bills on top. Mission4Maureen has alleviated some of that stress and is going to help out with some of the medical/bills. In addition, their communication has been excellent with Rosie communicating with me in a timely and most informative manner since Feb. 2013. She also directed me to other resources found on their web-site. I highly recommend Mission4Maureen
My son was rediagnosed with a grade 3 ependymoma brain tumor. During this difficult and trying time, Mission 4 Maureen awarded my family some financial assistance that was extremely beneficial to our financial needs. We were able to pay some medical bills and afford to stay with our son in the hospital. This organization is a top notch charity and deserves only the best. Thank you, Mission 4 Maureen, you are truly awesome.
As one of Maureen's uncle's, I have been aware of this great organization since it's inception. I have seen firsthand the dedication, commitment and burning desire to make a difference. When the economy hit the skids and donations were more limited, M4M pushed on finding new donors and new fund raising ideas. Because of those efforts, the other people giving a review, were given a reason to do so.
The annual walk in New York for many years brought donors and participants together. The May days drawings increased donation while having a little fun. The BOOMBOX golf tournament has become an annual success that keeps giving back to those who need it the most.
The money donated does not get spent on administration! It goes to people like YOU, Your neighbor,
your friend or relative. That is why I love and support the Mission 4 Maureen non-profit!
How quickly life changes! Our baby six yrs old was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a brain tumor three weeks into Kindergarten. He waited in anticipation all summer for school. He was so excited! He even attended one soccer practice before our world changed forever. We were on a family vacation when he was diagnosed. Our son has such an extensive treatment plan, making it impossible to work. We had just bought our first home and had not lived in it a year. Our Social Worker referred us to Mission for Maureen, who after reviewing our application and verifications approved us right away. They paid bills on our behalf and emailed a confirmation letter, which was such a relief. Even sitting down to pay a bill is overwhelming and they took the weight off of our shoulders. Being awarded the financial assistance from the Mission$Maureen program also freed up money allowing us to travel out of state for his chemotherapy and out of town trips for bloodcounts. We are so thankful for this family and their non profit. This foundation has helped us survive financially. I also thank Maureen, who the non-profit was named and dedicated for. How proud she would be of her family for establishing the foundation and how she is helping so many families battle this awful disease of brain cancer.
My 9 yr old son was diagnosed with a brain tumor in Jan 2013. A concussion from basketball resulted in headaches which led to an MRI that changed our lives! Being a single parent of 4 children our way of life was uprooted! I had to take an unpaid leave of absence from my employer which led to my position being replaced over several months. My son still suffers side effects of the tumor even though it was removed late Jan. A social worked at our hospital referred me to Mission4Maureen. I was amazed at both how nice and FAST they were in helping our family! They helped keep us in our house! Within days of applying online I both had a decision and bills were being paid on our behalf! When times are hectic and the concern is taken by a sick child it is a blessing to have such a wonderful organization such as Mission4Maureen to help ease the burden!
I was diagnosed with brain cancer and was placed out of work with no inccome. I reached out
To many organizations who wouldn't even allow me to tell my story, but declined helping me. Mission
4 Maureen was the only organization who actually helped me financially. I applied and within a week I was approved. I sent them my bills and within 12 hours they were paid. I appreciate that they worked expeditiously because it showed me they cared.
My daughter, Avery, suffers from a brain tumor and is in treatment. Mission4Maureen helped us in a time of need and were very caring of our situation. I applied to many charities and this was the first one to reply and help me and my family.
My daughter had brain surgery Nov of 2012, the tumor was removed and it turned out to be cancerous . So she has been undergoing extensive radiation treatments and now starting her chemo for the next 14 month. I had to stay home from work to be with her during her month of hospital stay and to take care of her during her recovery, and since we have no family around us, im also the only one that can take her to all her other doctor visits and physical therapy . As a single parent the weight of not having income coming in but still all the bills needed to be paid , I reached out to Mission4 Maureen and what a God send blessing this organisation is!! Thank you for helping us so our rent and utilities could be paid for a whole month , also some of the medical bills which are piling up everyday !! The help from Mission4 Maureen has taken some of the daily worries and stress of my shoulders! If the world would only have only such caring humans around , there would be more harmony and peace in this world!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
my son was diagnosed with a brain tumor twice in 2 years. Mission4maureen helped us both ieswith the financial strain of this terrible diagnosis. Without them we would be behind on our bills and have an added worry.Thank You Mission4Maureen for you caring and understanding!
My son was diagnosed with an inoperatable brain tumor when he was 6 years old, almost 10 years ago. I have struggled under the financial strains since becoming a single parent. Mission4Maureen was able to help me with making my car payments for 6 months. What a huge blessing to my family, since I needed the car to take my son back and forth to his appointments.
Our son, Luke, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at the age of 18 months old. Our family was devasted by the news and life as a we know it changed. We spent many our traveling to chemo appointments and doctors for the last few years. It has taken a toll on us emotionally and financially. Fortunately for mission 4 maureen, they assisted us with the financial burden. The staff was friendly and helpful. The are sincere to families situations and truly kind at heart. We will forever be grateful.
Mission 4 Maureen came through for me and my family in our time of need. They were quick, friendly and understanding.
From the mission statement, to their fulfillment of it, M4M is a fantastic organization. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 31, and this group paid my bills for a month when all other help and resources had run out. They quite literally kept the lights and heat on, and overall decreased my stress level 100% (if even for a short while, the respite was appreciated.) Thanks impart to the I am still I in the game!
I first became acquainted with Mission 4 Maureen when I was running my family's foundation to find a cure for brain tumors. As we learned more about the incredible help they provided families facing this dreaded disease, we realized the importance of what they do. In the brain tumor world, and in the cancer world generally, there is a lot of money raised for research and for trials. There is money raised to help pay for expensive treatments. However, it is nearly impossible to pay for all of the "side effects" of treating one's brain tumors - the costs to get child care help, the choice between making a mortgage payment or paying for a treatment that is not covered by insurance, the financial burden of car services to and from necessary appointments. These things are hugely important to a family fighting this disease. Friends and families around you are often generous, but it does not fill this hole. Mission 4 Maureen recognizes this and is one of the few organizations I have found to help with this. I have been fortunate to meet with and speak to a number of people who have been helped by Mission 4 Maureen. They acknowledge that if they did not receive assistance from M4M, they would never have been able to fight the fight that was needed to save their life. If you are looking for a non-profit that fits the description of "great" - Mission 4 Maureen is the one to choose!
Our 12 year old daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumor 5 years ago and underwent brain surgery for treatment...all of the tumor could not be removed because of its location. Mission4Maureen was gracious enough to provide financial assistance for our utility bills as we had to travel weekly for her year-long chemotherapy treatments that followed. This was truly a blessing to experience that people are still compassionate enough to help others and ease their hardship. Many thanks and God bless!!!
We are so grateful for the assistance Mission4Maureen provided when my 10 year old battled brain cancer for the second time in her young life. It was wonderful having the much needed help in our time of difficulty. Thank you so much!
When diagnosed with brain cancer at 25, this organization swooped in to save me and my family in endless ways. We faced an insurance company dropping me for pre-existing conditions and no information on how to navigate financial support like them or collect funds from donations. They got us out alive. They were kind, patient, knowledgeable, thorough, and patient again, Always grateful.
I was helped by this wonderful charity when my husband was suffering from brain cancer. They made the mortgage payment for one month as we struggled to get medical disability set up. Sadly I lost my husband to the brain cancer but my gratitude to this charity remains and I contibute to them so they may help others.
Our son, Nathan, is 5 years old and has been battling brain cancer since Jan 2009 and spinal cord cancer since Oct 2011. We have three other children ages 9,6, and 2. My husband is working two part time jobs. Mission4Maureen has been a huge support emotionally and financially in relieving some of the financial stress so we can focus on what is really important! Thank you so much! May the Lord bless this AWESOME organization!
My daughter, Nadia, was feeling sick for about 4 random days in a two week period...sick one day...better three days. It was weird...we had her birthday party 2 days after her 7th birthday, on July 9, 2011, and even that morning, she woke up ill, but was better by noon and showed no sighns of slowing down all day...but July 10th, that morning she was ill again, and it's not normal to puke or have headaches...so we went to the ER that morning and by the afternoon, she was flying to Children's Hospital. I tell you, I have remained calm, probably calmer than my friends and the doctors, even, and I'm glad they have found me to be inspiring and all of that, but there are times when you are home alone just wondering what's next. This thing has been a whirlwind or emotions and decisions and nerves. Everything has been moving very fast in the past 4 months.
And trust me, Jesus has been keeping me. And I have been blessed to meet some great social workers, nurses, and helpers who have lined me up with excellent resources, such as Mission4Muareen. My home was broken into 2 weeks before Nadia's diagnosis of medulloblastoma (brain cancer) and a few things were stolen, and with the holidays coming up, I could have easily started to feel terribly uncomfortable, but when I received notice that your organization was helping pay my mortgage, it was...right on time. I thank you very much! Nadia thanks you!! I made sure she read the letter and we thank God for you, for having the resources and the willing heart to help us!!
My daughter Carrie was diagnosed with an Ependymoma brain tumor in April 2005. She was 14 months old. She has been though many tumor resections and various chemo.'s and two times of radiation therapy. In Sept. 2009, my husband moved out while I was out of town with Carrie getting her second radiation treatment. In Sept. 2010, her tumor began to grow again. In Jan. 2011, her tumor hemmoraged. She was hospitalized for 5 months. During this time, my husband whom I am still trying to divorce, fired me from our family business and contested my unemployment. I had no income for 3 months. I also have a 12 year old son. Mission4Maureen has been instrumental in helping me pay some of my bills that I would have never been able to cover on my own. They were there when I really needed someone. I can't begin to thank them enough for taking some of the burden off of me during this very difficult year.
my name is Lourie and this is my beautiful daughter Alyse. We would like to thank Mission4Maureen for their help when we needed it the most. This is such a wonderful organization to reach out to folks like myself with such an awful medical condition. May God continue to bless each of you and all those who are involved. My prayers are with you all. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts.
Our daughter, Grace, has a terminal meningioma. As she is terminal, medical procedures/treatments are no longer occuring. The financial burden on a family however continues; unpaid leave from work, etc. Mission4Maureen provided a mortagage payment on our behalf. This finanical assistance eased our burden and allowed us to focus more on Grace, and less on finances.
Dear Folks, when I was 44 I was diagnosed with anaplastic olododendroglioma (WHO grade 3) in March 2005, the same month that dear Mareen Lowis died. She had a g. 4 tumor. I had a recurrence in Feb. 2009 and they did the same thing by resecting it and I went back to work in June 2009. But I was only able to work for 5 months. I am a heavy equipment operator but I had to go on disability. We are now uninsured and need help with all of our cancer related bills and they are more than you think! My disability pays all the 'normal' bills but I am so grateful for the for the help in relieving our cancer bills! Thankyou so much for your availability and your willingness to help. And thanks to Maureen as well.
Mission4Maureen is such an amazing organization for many reasons. It was started in honor of Maureen Lowis, a beautiful, 34 year old mother of 3, who died from glioblastoma multiforme in March 2005. Maureen was appalled by the staggering cost of brain cancer treatments. M4M was founded to financially help patients of brain cancer. We have stopped foreclosures and evictions, helped keep utilities on, help pay for travel for treatment, and for the cost of medication. Research funds are important, but M4M helps patients who are struggling NOW. We help babies from St. Jude's hospital to adults who have lost their jobs. The passion of Maureen is very evident in this organization founded in her memory.
WOW, what a blessing Mission4Maureen was to our family! The MSW at Duke had just found out about this foundation and shared the information with me. My 10yr old daughter was receiving treatment at Duke for an Optic Glioma with chemo every 12 days. We had to travel 4hrs each way to get chemo and then turn around and go again. Needless to say, it drained us of everything; emotional, physical and financial! This foundation not only gave kind words of support but also paid 2 mortgage payments for me, so as a single mother, I was able to catch up on some bills. What a blessing. I truly feel God had His hand in this and lead Mission4maureen to help us. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I'm not sure how Mission4Maureen heard about us, but they were a Godsend. My son was diagnosed with glioblastoma last November and I was unable to work for 6 months. I am self employed, so my business suffered greatly. We were driving from North Idaho to Seattle every week for radiation and now drive 2 1/2 hours biweekly to Spokane,WA to get chemo. I have my son on additional supplemements and the cost is great. Thank you so much for taking a dent out of some of my bills. Sincerely, Cheryl
Mission4Maureen provided financial assistance to my husband who was striken with brain cancer -glioblastoma. They helped him cover some of his medical expenses. This was such a wonderful help to us. Made a significant dent in our financial burdens. The suddenness of the illness put him in financial straits in that he is privately employed and had been experiencing lapses in memory, etc., prior to this - thus putting a dent in his income. The staff at Mission 4 Maureen are so persoanable, kind, and helpful. And I do agree that they come to ones aid so quickly and efficiently. Just impresses on me the importance of giving to such organizations. They fill such a gap in our system. We cannot thank them enough. Heard about them through UCSF Medical Center Brain Cancer Center. They publish a list of organizations that help brain cancer victims. This one was the most accessible. We must give, give, and give some more.
I am a pediatric oncology social worker at a children's hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL. There are many days that parents of children with cancer ask for assistance to meet financial needs. Recently a mother of a 17 mo old boy just diagnosed with a brain tumor brought Mission4Maureen information to me that she had printed from the internet. She thought that maybe the foundation could help her if needed and help other families that come for treatment at the hospital. It turned out that she did need financial assistance because the demands of her child's illness, numerous hospital stays, mulitple operations and daily radiation treatment caused her to lose her job. She had to put her child's care first. It was so great to work with the Mission4Maureen foundation. The assistance that was provided to the family of the 17mo old child was phenomenal. The foundation was so easy to work with and they were able to assist to provide an emergent need. I have never worked with a foundation that was able to assist so quickly. They really made a difference in the life of this single mother so she could continue to care for her child. They also assisted a child whose parents could not afford her medication. I am so appreciative and I hope to continue to work with the foundation. Thank you Rosie, it is so great working with you. I hope you continue on the great work and help you are providing to many people. Thank you so much. Sincerely, Bernadette Brunetti, LCSW
Last fall I reached out and asked for help. My husband has stag 4 brain cancer; we lost his business and our home and are currently living with family. Asking for help is tough and Mission4Maureen was the only organization that came through. With their donation we were able to catch up on medical bills. I got the call from Mission4Maureen to inform me that they would be able to help; I was so happy....no one had every done anything this nice for us. Thank you, Thank you Debbie & Terry PS Terry is one year out from surgery and still with us; the Lord has plans for him.
As President of Mission4Maureen (and father), I am honored and determined to carry on Maureen's spirit to help others who suffer from brain cancer. Maureen was always a loving and giving person, putting others before herself was paramount even when she fought this awful disease. It is with Maureen's spirit that Mission4Maureen will help others with brain cancer as this was one of her last wishes.
Hi,my name is Lisa Braner. My cousin is Maureen Lowis, and she is the "Angel", that began this mission to be carried out as her greatest wish before God brought her home , as she peacefully went on that Good Friday, before Easter as she went to her final resting place to be with our sweet Jesus. Even before Maureen was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (brain cancer),she was silently doing her angel work here on earth. The mother of three beautiful young children , awesome wife to Terrence, daughter of Larry and Teresa Walker, also known as (Queen Maureen ), sister to Jeffrey and David, and grandaughter ,niece, cousin, "special needs teacher, and the best friend anyone could ask for.Active in the church community , as well as just all around Maureen was Always putting others first.... you never saw her without a smile or never knew she wasn't feeling well , even when her cancer struck her, Maureen and her husband , went to the Lord for their answers and you never saw a REAL LOVE STORY , until you watched the LOWIS's take this illness and and live each and every day to the fullest , only to begin with God ,at the start of each day, knowing exactly that he was the answer to the whole outcome of how the story would become the MISSION4MAUREEN FOUNDATION, Maureens final wish has now come true as she shines like a Rainbow knowing her legacy is being carried out by her very family. Everyone doing their part, ironman runs, triatholns, her very own daughter Sarah , growing her hair for 1 whole year then having it cut ,as she is being video (d) to donate to have it made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair to cancer treatments. All three children , cousins and family members participating in the ironman runs and triatholons, all over the U.S.,with all supporters, wearing t-shirts, with the mission4maureen logo on them . Maureens girlfriends have made bracelets that they wore while Maureen was still in the hospital , and as cousins arrived for her funeral we all wanted one, which is now known as "The Maureen Bracelet, each bead having a meaning for a certain thing,) now if donations made of a certain amount , donors can recieve one of these. Wonderful things happen through this mission though you must always keep your eyes open, Maureen's grandmother was very ill and about to pass, and a hospice volunteer was caring for her in her home , when she was wearing hers, and so was the hospice worker, when asked where she got the bracelet, she said oh everyone at the office is looking for "A Maureen Bracelet " and Aunt Teresa , said well this sweet lady here is Maureen's grandmother. God Is Good. Now just this June 20, 2009, my grandmother of 96 years, passed away , at the Dayton , Ohio Hospice, I was with her when she passed , her birthday was on May 19, she was in perfect health, as a matter of fact she was playing cards that afternoon and had a stroke . When she was taken to hospice , I left from Atlanta to be with her until her death, nine days , no food or water, you talk about a wonderful woman of God , yes she was too. My point here I took my Maureen Bracelet, and had it Blessed while we were there , and put it on her and prayed for less suffering and pain.It was returned to me after she passed , as she loved to wear bracelets and this was just more meaningful for me . As for the mission to continue to be carried out for Maureen , I have recriuted 21 members and have asked more of my facebook friends, and am waiting their reply. My next plan is I am having a liscense plate designed for the front of cars with the MISSION4MAUREEN motto "Nobody can do everything but everybody can do something" , and this will not be a regular car tag just a fight against brain cancer. Then once this is designed, I want to go to all of the festivals since I am a southerner and set up my booth with all of the MISSION4MAUREEN t-shirts, hats bracelets etc.and applications for our fight against brain cancer. To finish my story on "Our Angel her final wish was to be able to help those who needed help financially , or otherwise who also had to fight this disease , and she wanted this more than anything when she met a little boy , when she was going through some treatment at the same time he was. I don't know of a stronger man than Maureen's husband Terrence , who has made this dream come true for Maureen, he has done a tremendous job with the children, and just absolutly honered Maureens wish , with the help of Uncle Larry , Maureens dad who keeps the mission running , which i know their are alot more we don't all see, but between God and those two Men , MISSION4MAUREEN definitly should be number 1 in the fight to help fight those that otherwise can not help themselves, or their families. Because "Nobody Can Do Everything,But Everybody Can Do Something". Go Queen Maureen, And May God Bless this organization and all who keep it going. Your Cousin. Lisa Braner
Misssion4maureen has touched my heart in many levels. Knowing the Fmaily of Maureen and how with her passing and their determination to keep her light shining has been extrordinary to me. The foudation has created a way for people who suffer with brain cancer and related cancers to have a way to receive help and also information, to help there situation. They go to great lengths to reach out to whomever is in need and I commend the foudation on all of their efforts to help others in need. They are truly a blessing.
Hey to all, Maureen's family, I am a friend of Leslie Sowders. She is very dear to me and I have heard many wonderful things about Maureen and what a blessing she was and is. Keep doing what you are doing and keeping her spirit alive. Go Mission4Maureen! Mandy Hackney
It has been an amazing experience to watch this organization, begun with such tragedy, grow into its present status. The people who started Mission4Maureen are blessed with both devotion and tenacity.
M4M is a small organization but it's growing and helping as many people with brain cancer as it can. I never met Maureen, but this is a good way for her to live on. It's about helping patients that are fighting now as she did. It's about making sure they can concentrate on fighting cancer instead of fighting to be able to keep their home or pay for their medication.
No one can do everything, but everyone can do something. A catchy phrase, but how many people actually take it seriously? How many think, I'll leave it up to someone else? I don't have the time. It's a busy day at work today. I'm too busy once I get home. Or...I want to relax. I want to just do nothing. In reading the stories of patients on the Mission4Maureen website, I am always struck by how many of them were just living normal lives. Driving along...had a sinus infection...had a headache...got blurry vision. They went to the doctor or they brought their child to the doctor and heard the words "brain tumor." The sad truth is that by the time you hear those words, it is almost too late to be saved. But these patients fight and live and hope....that everyone will do something to help them and others like them. I can't always contribute as much as I'd like but I can support the good works of Mission4Maureen by telling its story.
Word of mouth is an amazing tool. I have been sitting in the BWI airport and overheard a young lady talking about this wonderful organization that was created in her cousin's honor. I was immediately hooked. I could not help but to grab on each word she was saying. This young lady moved me to tears. The love for this beautful soul that was taken too soon is so strong and evident. This foundation is a blessing and i feel so blessed just to have heard the personal story. This organization is amazing and could prosper so much with further support and funding.
This organization is not only helping others fight cancer, but it is fulfilling a dream of a very special person that lost their battle to cancer. I can't imagine going through something like cancer alone or watching a family member struggle to receive funds b/c there just simply aren't any. I can say nothing but positive things about Mission4Maureen. This family run organization is helping so many, wether they be family members or patients!
Mission4Maureen is an amazing non profit organization that makes dreams come true for so many. The staff of M4M are so dedicated and effortless in their work you can see it in everything that they do. Keep up the great job!
This is a wonderful organization! Their goal has always been to help others in need during their battle with brain cancer. Each and every dollar they bring in goes to families in need. They do all they do with love and compassion.
I just met Maureen's cousin Jessica in the airport. Our flight is on the verge of being delayed and we got to chatting. Jessica was very passionate in telling me about Mission4Maureen. She explained in great detail Maureen's story, mission and current progress of her foundation. It brought tears to my eyes. I have only known Jessica for a matter of moments and yet i feel like i have known her and knew Maureen. I lost my brother to brain cancer last year. I have seen the ugly side of brain cancer. I will contiue to follow the great works of this foundation and hope to hear of its future successes. God Bless. Olivia Wagner
As a family friend I experienced first hand the heartache and turmoil that Maureen's family experienced during her illness and during these past several years sincer her passing. M4M has helped to turn this terrible tragedy into a hopeful opportunity for others. M4M has reached out to many and my favorite event is the "May Days" which honors Maureen in a special way as her greatest joy in life was her children and she was such an exceptional mother. Thanks for all of your great efforts to help others with brain cancer.
I recently learned of the Mission4Maureen Foundation from a friend. What a wonderful charity to help families fighting cancer and a beautiful way to honor the memory of Maureen.
I have watched this charity grow from a small organization of family and friends to a thriving, growing charity that is now receiving grants to supplement their fund raising activities. They have helped patients all across the USA from Connecticut and Delaware to Florida, California and Washington. Even though the economy has slowed donations, Mission4Maureen never gives up. They work everyday to try to find ways to help all of its applicants.
I believe that one of the greatest advantages that Misssion4Maureen has over the "big" charities is that it can fill the gaps in need that the others can't. I love that they provide transportation to treatment, child care while parents care for sick children, assitance paying utilities, buy groceries, etc. These are services that the large charities just don't provide. This is truly a blessing for the families that are already consumed in grief and concern. I am proud to help raise money for this wonderful charity!
Brain cancer is terrible, but at least Mission4Maureen is there to help families deal with the staggering healthcare costs associated with treatment. M4M is doing wonderful work.
I wish more people knew about Mission 4 Maureen. I truely enjoy the May Days. I follow the web page to keep up to date on the functions and families that are supported. The newsletter is great as well
Being a volunteer for many non-profits, M4M is one of the very few that spends all the funds on the people that really need it. The overhead...oh, wait there is no administrative costs. Every dollar that is brought in is spent on the people that are unfortunate and need help that other organization don't help with. Just paying a water bill or house payment can give someone the piece of mind they need to support thier family memeber.
The application was user friendly- short, concise, and easy to complete. I received warm and informative emails from a staff person at Mission4Maureen in a very time appropriate manner. Overall the experience could not have gone better and I'm eager to contact Mission4Maureen again on behalf of other patients and families in need of assistance.
M4M epitomizes what a charity truley should be. Every dollar earned goes straight to help a family that has been stricken with this horrible disease. Maureen devoted her life to children. Her devotion is being carried out each and every day through this tremendous foundation. Keep on Keepin on M4M.
Working in the therapy side of oncology I have seen first hand how difficult dealing with these diseases can be and the toll treatments can take on the indvidual/families. Without organizations like M4M many people will simply give up and not continue treatment. It can be tragic; however, M4M has helped many with gliobastoma multiforme tumors through financial crisis, in big and small ways, so that the stress of fighting to live does not need to include paying the rent.
I am happy to be a supporter and donor of Mission4Maureen. A horriffic tragedy for the families of Maureen Lowis which plunged all those who loved Maureen into a sea of darkness, has now resulted in hope and possibilities for other families battling this terrible disease. This organization brings financial help, emotional stability, and a level of comfort and compassion that can only be given by those who have already walked this road. I believe Mission4Maureen is destined to grow and bloom, so that other cancer patients can live and fight without any further worry.
