If skills for life is one of the most amazing programs that I have ran across. If the people that run this program are amazing! The programs they have for vets are absolutely barnun the best I've ever participated in! If when we go on our outings it's just like being back with my soldiers. The Times we share while on these retreats are not only fun, they're therapeutic too. If you've ever thought about joining or going on a retreat with Skills for life and haven't, don't hesitate to join... I promise you won't regret it!
My husband was injured in an IED blast while serving in Afghanistan on 21, Sept. 2009. He sufferred catastrophic injuries to his entire body, two TBI injuries, PTSD, and survivors guilt. Our lives were changed forever that day. We were overwhelmed with our situation and blessed beyond words when we heard we had been selected by MWSF! We are going to receive a mortgage free home! The best part being it would meet the disability needs of my husband, my hero, a combat wounded warrior who has a heart as generous as MWSF!!! We can never thank enough all persons and organizations for removing the burden of "where are we going to find a place to live that will accomadate his disabilaty needs and us." We have been blessed and I believe this is an organization worthy of recognition for all they do. Having a place to "live" isn't the same as having a place to call "home!" "Home" is comfortable because you are "safe." "Safe" is knowing your home isn't "dangerous" to those you love!!! When we are presented with our home, it will accomadate the diability needs of a wounded warrior and be safe and comfortable, it will be "home." Thank you MWSF and God bless you all, Tom & Sandee R.
We have known several veteran families that have applied but, because they already owned a home before the Combat Injury they are immediately denied. I think this should be changed. Obviously, military families don't plan on the service member being injured or die in combat when they go to war. Therefore, I don't feel they should be penalized for that. In most situations, the veteran's spouse must quit their job to help care for their wounded spouse and are in much more need because they no longer have that second income they once depended on. Hopefully, you can consider this the next time you deny a family.

We understand your concern here, and we wanted to reply to let you, and any others, know of our reasoning behind this requirement. The homes we award are mortgage-free, but they are not cost free. The home recipient is still responsible for property taxes, utilities, and other elements that vary per location. When vetting an applicant, we want to completely ensure that their income can cover these costs and still be able to afford daily expenses such as gas, food, clothing, etc. If an applicant has a mortgage on another property, they in turn have another payment on top of what is set for the home we are attempting to provide mortgage-free. We strive to make sure that each applicant is placed in a location that is most beneficial to them, and having to pay for two homes, even if it is temporarily, can be too costly for a wounded hero or gold star spouse to support.
The efforts put fourth by MWSF to ensure wounded service members are not left behind are by far the greatest gift and act of recognition by a non profit. After devastating wounds and grueling recovering I stepped by into the civilian world and onto a advantageous position because of there efforts. Thank you. Sgt Martinez
While recovering at San Antonio Military Medical Center I was informed of the non-profit Military Warrior Support Foundation. I originally engaged in dialogue on post separation opportunities and soon found out they had several programs related to Post Separation Work and Education. Because of the tireless effort and attention from its advocates I now reside in a home donated to me mortgage free by MWSF on the basis of my 9 yrs of service and combat injuries i sustained in Afghanistan. I now look to the future with great optimism and MWSF is one of the reason I can do so.
These are some of the greatest people I have ever dealt with. Words can not describe how Grateful I am to this organization. Thanks Guys.
Military Warriors Support Foundation has helped me put my life back together and put me back on my feet. The help that they have provided me is more than I ever could have hoped for or dreamed. My family and I cannot express how much they have made a difference for us and are future. We thank them and hope that they can help others that have been injured in combat and need help getting their life back in order.
Military Warriors Support Foundation is an excellent organization that under-promises and over delivers on their commitments to both the veteran and their trading partners. Uncompromising integrity and honesty has been my experience in dealing with the organization for the past couple of years. The mentoring program they require the veteran to commit to complete is one reason their success rate is so impressive with the veterans maintaining the home from both a financial and physical viewpoint. I am pleased to be associated with this great organization.
I am a client of this organization who was given a mortage free home thru this organization...If it wasnt for this organization me and my family would be homeless or living with my wife s parents....This organization gave us a new hope and start with our life....thank you to the military wounded support foundation...
A truly life changing foundation. I am a wounded warrior from OIF and received a mortgage free home from MWSF. It is still hard to quantify how receiving this donatation has changed my life and set me well ahead of other young adults my age. While there are many exemplary organizations out there for our veterans, I have yet to see one that concentrates so much tangible donation per individual. The staff is top notch and full of knowledge, the transition from applying for the home to moving in was extremely smooth due to their hard work. Their staff does an amazing job of following the veterans throughout their first few years in house by maintaining a strong personal support system. Truly a life changing organization!!!
Changed our life with a home for myself, my husband, and our 3 beautiful girls. After moving from apartment to apartment we finally got a place to call home. This is an amazing program! My eyes are getting watery thinking about the people involved and their generosity .
My husband and I were awarded a home this year. We were not simply given a house, we were blessed with a home. I'm so thankful everyday to have been given the oppurtunity to meet so many amazing people. Military Warriors Support Foundation is filled with some of the most compassionate people I have met. They have built not only a top notch organization, but also a employee base that many now consider family. They are a true testament to the spirit of giving.
This is an outstanding organization doing a very impressive job of reaching out and providing new homes for selected warriors at absolutely no cost to that warrior. Giving away as many homes as they do every year is no small feat. The dedicated effort and organizational acumen is top notch. The MWSF has literally enhanced the lives of hundreds of warriors and their families with their Home Giveaway program. As citizens of this great country, we cannot do enough to help out our young warriors who have sacrificed so much. My wife and I had the honor to present the ceremonial key for a new home to a warrior recently, and to witness his joy and true heartfelt gratefulness for what he had just received was very moving. Obviously the MWSF must compete with others in the fundraising arena and I cannot be more emphatic when I say that I strongly recommend the MWSF to be first on all donor's lists.
I have helped on a couple of events and left away with TEARS of joy in my eyes. The first honoring 30 disabled HERO'S at a Clay Walker concert and another by honoring HERO'S mothers/wife at a makeover event. I am a United Way giver at work and it is GROUPS like this that makes one want to give.
This foundation awarded us a MORTGAGE FREE HOME. It isn't just any home either, it's a 2 story, 4BR 2BA with a gourmet kitchen sitting in a quiet, safe & friendly neighborhood. It's truly amazing and everyday we are blessed to have this to call our own. This foundation is working to get us out of debt as well. They are truly an amazing group of women running this foundation and we are so so so grateful & blessed to be a part of this group.
We were awarded a mortgage-free home through MWSF. My husband is a wounded warrior injured in Afghanistan. We are blessed to have been chosen and cannot thank the enough for all they do for the military!
This is an awesome organization! I am a wounded veteran, involved in another organization that takes wounded veterans out fishing. One of the guys I fish with told me out this organization, who gave him a house. I went to the website he told me to go to. I filled out an application for a mortgage free home, and I was awarded one! I can not express what this has done for me. I went from living with my parents because I could not afford to buy a house, to being in my own home! Now I am on my way to being debt free and starting fresh in a new house!
There are not enough words to express how grateful I am to MWSF for everything they have done for me and my family. MWSF awarded a 100% mortage free home to my fiance who is a retired Marine Corps wounded hero that served in Iraq. Not only did they award us a home, they helped us with every detail every step of the way. They have helped my fiance and I build a strong foundation for our future life together and we can not be more grateful. Most recently they even flew us out to a New York Jets game where we were presented our home on the field during the game! The things MWSF does for our veterans are so truly amazing.
What a great cause . . . supporting our combat-wounded warriors! I've had the good fortune to meet several of the recipient families. What great people and what a fitting tribute to have them receive a mortgage-free home. The outdoor trips, hunting and fishing adventures could never happen for many of these brave, wounded warriors without the help of the Military Warriors Support Foundation. Great work! Keep it up!
We have only just begun working with this foundation! We applied for the mortgage free home, and are now waiting on a decision. They have been wonderful and caring. We do not know yet if we will be awarded, but were already reassured that if we do not get this house, we will continue to stay on the list and they will continue to stay in contact with us through other applications. What a wonderful place to offer such! =)
I began volunteering with MWSF about 7 years ago. The staff has been top notch and the heros I have met have been inspirational.
I was wounded in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007. I continued being active duty Army and then I was stationed in Fort Carson, CO in 2009. I was still experiencing symptoms from when I was injured in Iraq and my doctors in Colorado started running tests. I was found to be non-deployable and subsequently started the med-board process out of the Army. I have a wife and 2 children so we decided to move back to our home state of Oklahoma. We were renting a home but it was almost a 2 hour drive for both my wife and I for school so we started looking in the Oklahoma City area and discovered that this organization had a home they were going to award a wounded veteran just a short drive from the city. So we applied and were granted the home. Military Warriors Support Foundation *(MWSF) has been a huge blessing to my family and I. We are now on our way to reducing our debt, living in a dream home and have cut that 2 hour drive down to 35-40 minutes in morning traffic. We appreciate everything that MWSF has done for us and are grateful for our home and the opportunity to become a more financially stable family.
We are fortunate enough to have recently been awarded a mortgage free home. We can not begin to express how humbling it has been for us to receive such an honour. It couldn't have come at a better time. We thank the organization for their hospitality during our stay in Dallas.
This organization "Military Warrior Support Foundation" (MWSF) is the first leader in serving our military wounded. Founded by an Army general and diversity of staff from all different states. They have been effective in their program helping hundred of military wounded in action and their famillies. They have changed the life of hundred of militrary wounded by providing a gift of a lifetime, a "Home". Thank you for your sacrifice and your sense of patriotism. I am honored to be part of you and I am proud of everyone in this community of volunteers, god bless you all
At first after I heard I can be awarded a 100% mortgage free home. I thought it was to good to be true at first. I filed out the application despite what I thought. Sure enough I was awarded a home a little while later. I was shocked and to this day I am still in shock. It is such a blessing. I had been homeless twice since my service and have been struggling to make it. Military Warriors have helped give me a life I never thought I could have. That and I don't ever have to worry about not having a place to call home again. They keep me involved and whenever I have a problem they do what they can to help me. They have recreational activities to help keep me involved and give me a chance to hang out with veterans like me. Thank you so much Military Warriors for all you have done and continue to do for me!! You guys are truly amazing!!
