In Sept 2012 we were just starting our lung cancer screening program. Without the guidance and support of the Lung Cancer Alliance, we would not be where we are today....one of the largest lung cancer screening programs in the nation. The Lung Cancer Alliance has been a God-send to our program, our team, and our patients. They have helped us network with other facilities as well as local and national entities to bring an awareness of lung cancer to the forefront and best practices for detection and treatment. We are great at what we do, in part, due to the Lung Cancer Alliance. I cannot think of a nonprofit more deserving of recognition as we continue to save lives through early detection. They have my highest admiration and respect.
Located in the heart of Kentucky, KYOne Health is one of the largest lung cancer screening programs in the nation. While much is due to our attention to detail and compassion for the patient, we’ve also had to keep up with the many twists and turns of that government body responsible for the many complexities associated with CT lung screening.
Without the continuous and intense support of the Lung Cancer Alliance, not only would we not be scheduling as many as effectively and efficiently (over 1500 so far this year), I would venture to say we may not be screening at all. The Lung Cancer Alliance is, in my opinion, one of the greatest NFP’s with whom I have ever worked!
I have been working with the Lung Cancer Alliance for a few years as a patient advocate. They have given me the opportunity to participate in spreading awareness and supporting research. It is especially satisfying to join other advocates to visit our representatives on Capitol Hill and discuss the need for increased funding for lung cancer issues. The staff at LCA has always been extremely knowledgeable and supportive as we try and navigate the system and provide information to other patients and to our elected officials. The web site is an invaluable resource and has helped me learn more so that I can speak effectively about the most important issues. Throughout this work, I have met the most wonderful people, both within LCA and among the advocate population. I look forward to continuing working with them.
I lost my Mom in 2013 to small cell lung cancer. I wanted to do something honor her memory but I couldn't find any fundraisers to support in the Houston area. After attending a Shine a Light with my dear friend Janie who had also lost her Mom to lung cancer, I contacted Lung cancer Alliance and inquired about starting a walk in Houston. I was thrilled to learn that something was in the works but they needed volunteers to make it happen! We soon met other local advocates who were passionate about the cause and together with Lung cancer Alliance in Nov. 2014 our dream became a reality! We are having our FOURTH Lung Love Walk this Saturday and look forward to many more! LCA is a wonderful organization who truly cares about their mission and I am happy to be a part of their volunteer committee! We love working with Lanni and Maggie :)
Words could not possibly explain how much I appreciate all the work Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) has done since day 1 that I got involved with our FIRST Lung Love Walk Houston in 2014. It was great to know that there WAS a non-profit organization with passionate people about bringing lung cancer awareness as I was. I have been very happy being able to work with LCA for the past years.
The people there, such as Lanni & Maggie among many others have been incredible in all aspects. When dealing with them from planning to final event items, it has been a pleasure and it’s shown how much they care about LCA to be sure things run smooth from beginning to end.
THANK YOU LCA for making an idea become a realty to bring a lung cancer walk to Houston, now it has been just that, a reality year after year.
In 2014 I attended my first National Lung Cancer Summit sponsored by Lung Cancer Alliance. My life changed! The compassionate, dedicated LCA staff provided me with the support, the knowledge and the confidence to stand up and advocate for lung cancer patients. I have never looked back. I do my research. I know with confidence Lung Cancer Alliance responsively uses their resources to IMPROVE outcomes for the leading cause of cancer death; an underfunded, stigmatized and insidious disease. Lung Cancer Alliance's unwavering commitment to everyone impacted by lung cancer IS making a difference, and I am grateful and extremely proud to be a small part of this critical effort. I am a very lucky 2X lung cancer patient who is EXTREMELY lucky to have Lung Cancer Alliance working for ME!
I became a lung cancer activist because I cannot comprehend the lack of research funding for the leading cause of cancer death. We HAVE to change this! In 2014 I attended my first Lung Cancer Alliance Summit to do just that by meeting with our Congressional representatives to lobby for equitable research funding. The LCA Summit changed my life and I know this exceptional organization is endlessly working to change the lives of thousands of lung cancer patients just like me. All LCA staff members, starting at the very top, are 100% committed to their critical mission to improve outcomes for lung cancer patients. They are successful because LCA is comprised of compassionate and extremely motivated employees, and volunteers, who share a relentless, passionate drive to empower lung cancer patients and save lives!
I am a for year lung cancer survivor and I absolutely love working with Lung Cancer Alliance! I especially enjoy partnering with them on the hill to spread awareness and ask for needed funds for lung cancer research. I find their mission is the same as mine when fighting this dreadful disease.
In 2010 when my sister, Mary Anne Rios, a non-smoker was diagnosed with NSCLC lung cancer, I was devastated. At 53, she was in the prime of her life. For the next 3 1/2 years she valiantly fought lung cancer but ultimately lost her battle in January 2014. My sister wanted to help raise lung cancer awareness and discovered Lung Cancer Alliance online. Lung Cancer Alliance provided her with support and resources but more importantly I found people I could talk to about my sister's lung cancer journey and my role as a caregiver. The staff at Lung Cancer Alliance are a wonderful group willing to listen and lend support. As a result of the support I received from Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA), I continue to support LCA programs and host fundraisers each year to help raise funds and spread awareness of this terrible disease that kills more women than the top three gynecological cancers combined. No one deserves lung cancer.
Lung Cancer Alliance is unlike any other cancer advocacy organization. Lung cancer has impacted several members of my family and I am incredibly grateful for LCA's continued advocacy efforts. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Lung Cancer Alliance. Keep doing the amazing work that you do!!
I am a 14 year lung cancer survivor and proud board member of Lung Cancer Alliance. When I was first diagnosed in 2004, Lung Cancer Alliance was my first phone call after a "google" search. From that first connection, till now, Lung Cancer Alliance has provided service, support and encouragement to me and thousands of other people touched by this terrible disease.
I have been involved with Lung Cancer Alliance for five years since I was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 44. I can not imagine my health journey without this nonprofit organization. The resources, employees and links have been instrumental in my care, support, awareness and advocacy. Lung Cancer Alliance is single handedly leading the fight for lung cancer patients and families to the media, government, research and medical community.
LCA continues to be a leading non-profit within the lung cancer field. Their mission is embraced by their staff and all the individuals who they touch with their wonderful services. Through their outreach and programs, they bring a new meaning to lung cancer. I continue to be amazed by their progress.
LCA is a wonderful organization with a wonderful staff. They are passionate about what they do and incredibly forward thinking. LCA fulfills it's mission with a positive energy. With a nonprofit budget, they sure do great things for the community and individuals affected by lung cancer!
I was introduced to Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) at the Hope Summit in the spring of 2016. I was extremely impressed with the staff’s dedication, professionalism, and passion they demonstrated for their daunting mission (i.e), improving the lives of lung cancer patients and care givers. There is truly not enough superlatives to accurately capture what LCA does in support of cancer patients and care givers. The Staff’s omniscient approach to every aspect of lung cancer is heartwarming. I can’t count how many times I have heard how appreciative I am for everything LCA is doing to raise the awareness of such a debilitating disease. LCA’s aplomb staff is uniquely qualified, in their respective fields, to deal with so many aspects of lung cancer support and to provide that support in a no frills approach is extraordinary.
My name is Stevie m I was diagnosed 4/15 lung cancer I went into this not knowing what cancer is, I was so scared I only heard about it,I never knew anyone who had it,as months went by and I was loosing faith in medicine and life, my wife took notice, and had to get help asap, she made 1 phone call to LCA, and spoke to Tara and she put my wife at ease, and within 30 min I received a phone call from Tara at lung cancer alliance, and my whole life turned around, I was alive and living again, everything she said came true, and she put me in touch with 2 amazing people who survived cancer, and they walked me the rest of the way, ps doctors said il be around for a long time 'thank god, and thanks lung cancer alliance
I have been incredibly impressed by LCA’s efficiency since becoming a Board Member several years ago—they’re the top rated lung charity (receiving a perfect score from Charity Navigator), and they’re really the group doing it all for lung cancer—from research in early detection, to providing resources to hospitals and patients across the country (over 450 screening centers work with us) to changing the public perception/and thus creating awareness about lung cancer and those who could be at risk. Screening could save thousands of lives with early detection and have the most profound life-saving impact on cancer in history.
By advocating for patients with lung cancer to CMS, LCA was key in pushing forward coverage for low dose CT scan screening for lung cancer. They are a fantastic resource for providers, lung cancer screenign programs and patients a like providing an easy to navigate webpage and printed resources to help explain who is eligible for lung cancer screening, how to manage a newly discovered lung nodules, what options are available for lung cancer treatment and where a patient can find high quality treatment close to them. I an a thoracic surgeon and use Lung Cancer Alliance resources frequently, especially their patient information booklet.
LCA has been of a great help to me and my organization as we continue to navigate the waters of Lung Cancer Screening. The rules and processes for participating in a Lung Cancer Screening program have been a bit of a challenge as they have changed dramatically since we first began our program in 2011. LCA has held meetings in Washington DC which have been of enormous help to me personally. Topical speakers and programs which benefit me and my program directly. I look forward to this annual conference. LCA is easily reachable by phone and or email and always respond quickly to questions. LCA has inside track to experts within the American College of Radiology and the insurance industry as well as others that provide much needed direction to those running programs. It has been a great decision to join forces with LCA
Lung cancer alliance is a great organization that does wonderful things for people with lung cancer!
Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) is a wonderful organization! I am a Thoracic Nurse Navigator, and feel fortunate to have this nationally recognized resource for my patients, families, and professionals.
I have never encountered such a passionate and dedicate group of advocates as I have experienced in my interactions with the staff and volunteers within the Lung Cancer Alliance. This group engages professionals and community members at so many levels and different angles to generate support for individuals at risk for lung cancer as well as those who have been diagnosed. I highly value my connection with LCA, and I will continue to extend my time and financial resources to support the work they do.
The Lung Cancer Alliance is an amazing organization that helps both lung cancer patients and institutions. As an LCA Screening Center of Excellence, the Maimonides Medical Center Lung Cancer Screening Program has received an enormous amount of guidance, expertise and support from this amazing organization. With their leadership, we were able to get insurance payments for life saving lung cancer screenings.
