The Lord's Pantry serves a vital need in our community in serving those that are food insecure. The goal is to do this in such a way that each client is treated with dignity and respect. Amazingly, this is a 100% volunteer run organization. Under the leadership of Jan and Linda, the pantry serves hundreds of families each month. The community rallies around the Pantry and is extremely supportive. The volunteers have a heart to serve and are the backbone of the organization. I am blessed to be part of such a wonderful organiztion!
I have had the pleasure for volunteering working for such a great and well run organization as the Lord's Pantry of Downingtown. I have never seen so many dedicated volunteers and directors. Many hours are spent behind the scenes as well as the times that the Pntry is open to clients. The Director, Assistant Director and all volunteers should be commended for a job well done. Sincerely, Vincent J. Tricome 710 Jacques Circle Chester Springs, PA 19425-2132 610-458-9281
I am proud to be a resident of a community that offers healthy choices and varied food items to others in need. Contributions--of time and food-- are always welcome and are a tangible way for individuals to reach out and make a difference. Throughout the year special programs enable clients to receive items that they could not receive through direct government assistance programs, eg. cleaning supplies, cold medications, school supplies, etc. A well-organized Christmas appeal enables community members to contribute specific items so that families or individuals in financial need can also have a special holiday. I enjoy volunteering at the Lord's Pantry. It is well-run, cheerful, and truly tries to meet individual needs and requests.
I am in my second year as both a Board member and a volunteer. My experience is very positive. Everyone involved with the Lord's Pantry is a volunteer (i.e.- no one is on payroll). The Board is dedicated to help the Lord's Pantry achieve it's mission seeing that people do not go hungry in Chester County. The volunteers treat all clients with dignity. Clients get a shopping cart and pick out food that their family will eat (most other pantries provide clients with pre-selected food). The Lords Pantry also provides special events for Back To School, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The community has responded by providing funding for a fully furbished building in addition to the ongoing food donations.
I have been a volunteer at the Pantry for about 4 years, helping clients shop for food, stock shelves & whatever else I can do to help. The caring, compassionate staff do their best to accomodate those in need. The clients express their gratitude at the fresh vegetables, fruits, meats & milk provided.
As a Volunteer of the Lord's Pantry, I see firsthand how hard they strive to reach out to the community. Every Volunteer is dedicated and commited to providing a nurturing and reliable place for all those needing assistance to turn to for support.
I am a client for many years due to chronic lung disfunction. From a room at St Jame's church, the Lord'Pantry is now a full service INSTITUTION for the poors. This 'no cash' five stars super market has a secret I can't discover:How do they accomplish so much? FAITH is the answer,I was told. Satisfaction-freedum of choice-dignity-politeness-concern rule this oeganization. The staff of volunteers make everyone fells velcomed; and me,I know I am special! It's impossible to imagine Downingtown and surroundinds without this FIRST CLASS food distribution center. May GOD BLESS the providers, the givers and the receivers!!
I was laid off from my job. Fortunately I was in a position where I had time to look for work. In tne interim I began volunteering at the pantry and quickly found out how necessary the pantry is to the community. I have since gone back to work but will continue to help them serve the community needs.
I've been a volunteer with the Lord's Pantry for more than five years. We distribute an amazing amount of food, including fresh meat, milk and fresh vegetables. Clients are treated with dignity and respect. Our directors work tirelessly (they're volunteers, too) to make sure we don't have to turn away anyone who needs our help.
This is a wonderful organization. They go above and beyond when helping the members of our community. I've seen them scramble to provide for people who were new or not in the system. 'No' isn't a word that is in their vocabulary.
This organization is constantly trying to find ways to better serve their constituents. The Pantry's efforts to provide items that contribute to a healthy diet vs. "filler" items that add calories but not substance, is particularly noteworthy. The organization is staffed by unselfish people who freely give their time and treasure to improve people's lives.
I have volunteered at the pantry for the past 2 years. I quickly learned that it is much more than a building where groceries are provided for families in need. It is a great place to serve and be served. Downingtown is blessed to have this amazing organization and its wonderful people. Lesa Hayden
We've just concluded a very successful Thanksgiving & Christmas food distribution for the needy. In addition we distributed huge quantities of toys for all who requested this assistance. I am always amazed at the spirit of cooperation and the first class systems in place to handle these distributions in a professional and caring manner. The Lords Pantry of Downingtown always goes above and beyond to make sure those receiving assistance are treated with dignity. Pat & Ray Williams
The Lords Pantry of Downingtown is a first class operation. The service is provided with genuine care and respect for those in need.
I'm one of the newer volunteers at the Lord's Pantry of Downingtown and I have to say that I've been totally impressed with the number of people that this organization serves and the wonderful spirit of the people who donate their time to assist. During this holiday season, it has been amazing to see the number of families who have received Thanksgiving dinners and Holiday gifts due to the generosity of the organization's supporters. With the current state of the economy, and the growing number of people in need, this organization is more important than ever and is deserving of your support.
I am so grateful for the Lord's Pantry. They are always there to help in anyway that they can. In the summertime when I was blessed to help my sister with her childern while she was in rehab, the lord's pantry helped me out with food. They never ever judged me or my family. If it wasn't for the pantry I don't know where my family would be at today. It did come to a point where it was food or rent. But thanks to the pantry, I always know that I can make it month to month. I have been really sick this past year and Jan and her crew where there to ask how I was and they were able to allow my mother to pick up my food. I can't wait until I am back on my feet so that I can give back to the Lord's Pantry. I want to thank GOD and everyone for their blessing and understanding of those in need. Thanks to the community for all their help in keeping the pantry open. Also I want to thank everyone who had helped out with the gifts for the childern for christmas. Thanks to you I am able to make christmas a little better this year.
I WAS IN A BAD CAR ACCIDENT AND WAS NOT ABLE TO WORK AGAIN AND AM NOW DISABLED JUST BARELY MAKING IT ON MY DISABILITY AND THE LORDS PANTRY EVERY MONTH HELPS ME TO PUT FOOD ON MY TABLE THEY ARE SUCH A BLESSING TO SO MANY PEOPLE WE ARE SO BLESSED TO HAVE JAN AND HER ORGANIZATION TO KEEP IT GOING FOR THE FAMILIES THAT HAVE THEIR JOBS AND HELPING WITH HOLIDAY FOR THE KIDS PLZ I ASK AND PRAY TO GOD TO NEVER LET THEM GO AWAY CHRISTINE LOPP-JOHNSON
When I retired in April, I found I needed some volunteer work to fill my time. I stopped in at The Lord's Pantry and immediately felt at home. The organization began about 40 years ago, as a small service within a local church. Today it has grown to a food bank that services over 700 families each month. The clients are treated with genuine kindness, warmth and respect. Over 100 volunteers give of their time each month to stock the pantry and pick up donated food. There are also special distributions during the year; ie, Easter, Back to School Supplies, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Due to the present economic times, and the struggles that some of our community members of are experiencing, it is very rewarding to know that I can help those that are less fortunate.
