The first time that I was able to see them in action was very inspiring. The money that goes to this organization is 100% for the handicapped. There ARE NO FRILLS. This particular sport takes any and all handicapped whether it be physically or mentally challenged. They learn to act as a team and compete against other teams in this country and in Canada. All proceeds go for their equipment and travel.
This is a worth while organization to support. ALL funds go directly to the program. The participants get all their equipment & travel supplied. This takes the pressure off the members and families. This allows these physically challenged athletes to enjoy the sport.
Long Island sled hockey is a wonderful opportunity for athletes who are differently abled to play, compete and belong as members of a team. The smile on their faces says it all. Please support this extremely worthwhile program.
this is an amazing organization which combines fun, sportsmanship and competition for its differently abled athletes. they have traveled as a team to compete in Canada and florida affording these players an experience they might not otherwise have been exposed to. all work for this group is done exclusively by volunteers and no salaries are paid to anyone. it is a wonderful experience for anyone to watch these athletes play and enjoy this sport.
The LONG ISLAND SLED HOCKEY team offers a great program to people from the Long Island NY area. In addition, they are a great partner and competitor with other Sledge Hockey Clubs in the U.S. and Canada! Our Ottawa-based teams are very happy to have been associated with them for about 10 years as we share much of the same values and goals.
Not only does The Long Island Rough Rider Sled Hockey Program offer a healthy alternative for the disabled athlete but through the hard work and effort of the program's athletes and coaches as well as tremendous community and fan support this program has become a premier sled hockey program winning tournaments both nationally and abroad. Watching the growth of this program from its infancy to where it is today has been a joy. There seems to be no limit to Long Island Sled Hockey's future growth!
I enjoyed reviewing the work of your organization online and commend you for all the good deeds you are performing.
The Long Island Rough Riders Sled Hockey Organization has been one of the most amazing programs I have ever had the honor of being a part of. Right from the start, they took me in and treated me like one of their own. Being a part of this team is about much more than simply playing hockey, it's about being a part of a family that never gives up and helps one another through thick and thin. Throughout the years I have been with the Rough Riders, I have had the blessing of watching this family grow to include many more players and change lives for the better. I know it has changed mine, and I can't thank those who have made this possible enough.
My daughter plays with the Long Island Rough Riders and absolutely loves it! The team is like her second family and she couldn't live without them!
The Long Island Sled Hockey Organization has given me so much in the past 5 years and in return has only asked for me to have fun when I am out on the ice, or playing in the many tournaments they take us to in the United States and Canada. Their selfless devotion to the players and parents are easily witnessed by anyone coming to watch or play for the first time. I have never seen them turn away anyone asking to play this great sport, they only ask how can we get you on the ice? Since I have been involved with the organization they have given me everything to succeed at being a sled hockey player not just the equipment but most importantly the support that you can only get from a family.
The Long Island Sled Hockey RoughRiders is the best organization that I have been involved with since I became disabled. The support staff of voulenteers and parents are amazing. I am proud to wear their jersey and insignia across my chest. They have treated me like family since the first time I hit the ice and have given back to me a sport I loved playing.
This is a wonderful program and sport for the differently -abled athlete. It's always exciting to attend a game and watch the sportsmanship and skill of these athletes. It takes tremendous dedication and heart to achieve what the Rough Riders has over the years! I can't say enough good things about the organization and the confidence and joy it brings to everyone involved. It truly has had such a big impact on everyone!
Not only has LISH given me the chance to play hockey like my able bodied peers but it has also helped shape me to be the person I am today. By being a member of the team for 10+ years, I have learned so much about acceptance, determination, and teamwork. I was only 10 years old when I discovered the program and was so excited that I found a sport that I could really compete in and maybe excel in. Now I attend the University of New Hampshire and play on their nationally ranked sled hockey team and also played for the United States Junior National Team during the 2010-2011 season. Without LISH, I would not have been able to do either of these things. LISH has given me and continues to give me the tools needed to see how far I can go in this sport, including ice time and new equipment. I am so grateful for LISH and all it has done for me.
I first became involved with the Long Island Sled Hockey program when I was 10 years old. Now 19 years old, I truly see the impact that LISH has had on my life. Born with a physical disability that has caused me to rely on crutches or a wheelchair to get around, I grew up thinking I could never play ice hockey, a sport that I always loved. That all changed when my best friend introduced me to LISH. After I got in a sled for the first time I was hooked. The only major difference between sled hockey and standard ice hockey is that we play in the seated position. The rules are the same, the same net and puck are used, and there is full checking. Not only has Long Island Sled Hockey allowed me to play hockey compete at a high level, but it has also allowed me to travel to various places and to meet countless numbers of incredible individuals. LISH has also offered me the tools to become the sled hockey player I am today. I currently play sled hockey for the University of New Hampshire and was a member of the United States Junior National Team for the 2010-2011 season. Without the Long Island Sled Hockey program, I would not be the person I am today and I am eternally grateful for everything the program has done for me.
What a great organization! Bryan Blomquist and his players are dedicated to the sport and to every differently-abled athlete they meet--teamwork that extends far beyond their time together on the ice.
The kids are dedicated to their team, and work very hard. They learn to participate as athletes strengthening their bodies, and make strong friendships. They learn to trust team mates and have fun while playing a sport.
LI Sled Hockey is terrific organization with a long rich history of helping the differently-abled athletes reach their full potential, instilling pride, determination and sense of team to a group of very talented sled hockey players. The staff have hearts bigger than themselves.
Great organization from top to bottom. All are welcome both disabled and able body athletes. Competitive without being exclusive. Pass the word to any and all friends looking for something to do out of the ordinary. I'm sure if you help out you will get more out of your experience than you could ever put in.
See You at Practice,
LI Sled hockey allows my son with Down Syndrome to participate in competitive sports. It strengthens his body and mind and brings him immense joy. It is something he looks forward to with great anticipation and that includes practices.
My son has Down Syndrome and would normally not get an opportunity to participate in the exciting sport of hockey. This organization gives him that chance. He feels accomplished and happy when he participates. He has learned teamwork, patience, skills, and made many friends. It keeps him healthy and gives him a great deal of satisfaction. I am so thankful for the hard work that goes on behind the scene of fund raising, scheduling games, travel plans, and coaching.
I have been attending fund raisers for LI Sled Hockey for 17 years and I am always impressed with the dedication and concern of the volunteers and staff. Having seen this team in action on the ice, it is hard to believe that any of the players are at all physically or mentally challenged. LI Sled Hockey is to be highly commended for providing an opportunity for these players to not only play a sport, but to travel with the team for tournaments.
This is an incredible organization. The athletes enjoy playing and competing. LI Sled Hockey provides an opportunity that can be found no where else. See a game if you can - you will be an instant fan. Can't say enough about Bryan Bloomquist and his fellow volunteers. Keep up the great work!!
It has been a truly wonderful experience to be a small part of this organization. The commitment of the athlete's, parents, and coach's is something you have to see to believe. They have over the years developed into a fine tuned machine. They offer a chance for people with disabilities to be envolved in something that takes them away when they are on the ice or just being a part of a team. They have a tireless leader and coach, whose fund raising soley supports this wonderful progam.
