When looking for our new family pet we knew we wanted an Italian Greyhound. I refuse to purchase from puppy mills...so was nice to find a rescue that specialized in the exact dog we were looking for. They found us not one, but two! We love our Iggy's!
IG Rescue Gulf Coast changed my family's life by helping us adopt the perfect IG for our family. They were informative, kind and very helpful throughout the entire placement process. I highly recommend them for your IG adoption interests!
The Italian Greyhound Rescue Association is close to my heart seeing as my little girl (with fur and four legs!) was adopted from there. IG's are a very unique and fragile breed and it is important that owners do their research before adopting one. The IG rescue in HI was thorough and there were several steps to complete the adoption- even though we already owned an IG! We were very excited because we wanted to adopt and help dogs in need but we were committed to the fantastic breed of our other dog. Echo, our pup, was in a tough situation when she entered IG rescue. She needed lots of care and rehabilitation before she was ready to be adopted. IG rescue gave her that and only when they felt she was ready was she put up for adoption. You can really tell that they loved her (and all of their rescues) like their own. We love our dog and we also love the support that IG rescue gives us still. We hope to foster other rescues in the future!
Nebraska IG Rescue it truly a blessing not only to the dogs but to everyone wanting to adopt. I have adopted two amazing dogs from the rescue and I recommend anyone who asks about my dog to them. I adopted Sophie in 2012 and discovered shortly after getting her she was in renal failure. They were supportive when I got the news and oftered to help with getting another dog if she passed suddenly. She lived until April 2014 and it was the best two years I could have ever hoped for despite her being sick. After she passed I adopted Kozi May 2014 and he has been true blessing. The rescue is full of amazing people who truly make a difference for all dogs that are blessed to find their way to them. Having my dogs helped me some through some dark days and I never would have been blessed to have them if it wasn't for Nebraska IG Rescue.
I both volunteer for and have adopted from IG rescue (have dealt with the national club as well as South Texas, North Texas/Oklahoma, and Houston area groups). The group has a fantastic network of volunteers who are all dedicated to finding loving permanent homes for this breed. Whether it be fundraising, veterinary care, mental/social well being of the dogs, screening potential adopters or finding the right dog for the right home, this group does it all. They also do it very well and with enthusiasm and compassion! Additionally they have great guidelines to ensure that the money they get is spent where it will do the most good.
Lincoln, Neb IG Rescue
I had to give up my 5 yr old whippet and they were the only one's to reply back to me. I emailed 5 other Rescues and nothing was returned. He suffers from seizures and after years of trying to help him with meds/food, I just couldn't afford him anymore. They took him in without issue. They are very professional and caring. I couldn't have ask for a better situation. I know my dog went to the right place.
We were lucky enough a several years ago to adopt Cleo, a wonderful IG from Nebraska IG Rescue. We also had another IG and needed a "sister" for her. Cleo provided us with several years of wonderful companionship and passed two years ago, but we have several wonderful memories of her and attending IG Play Dates and even have helped a small bit with babysitting some other IG's for an over night or two. Recently our other IG fell ill, and not knowing where to turn for expert advice on the breed or her discomfort, we were advised by them on a course of action and now we have our spunky little 13 year old back good as new. They spend great time and effort in proper placing of adoptive dogs and I would highly recommend them! They are a blessing to a wonderful breed.
A few years ago we lost "lady" the lab mix we had gotten at the pound. She got older and was in a lot of pain. At 15 we had to put her down. Recently I have been thinking of getting another dog. I wanted to find a smaller, older dog, that would not set off the mild allergies I have. I checked out the Italian Greyhound site and instantly fell in love with Duncan. He is 10 and blind in one eye. When I met him he was everything I had hoped for. He was a snuggle bunny, but still active enough for daily walks. He has brought so much joy into my life. The process was longer than at the Humaine Society with home visits and references. I am so glad they are thorough. The process has been good and they have answered my many questions. I would use them again. They have checked up on us regularly and that has been a comfort to know they care so much about him. Wonderful experience.
I have volunteered my time over the years for the Nebraska IG rescue. Throughout the many different ways that I have helped out nothing was more gratifying than fostering and being approved to adopt these wonderful little dogs. Just the fact that I have helped a little with being able to provide a stable loving home for them is humbling.
This organization is directed all by volunteer effort. A big thanks to all of the volunteers that donate their time, money, and love for the breed!
I've been drawn to the idea of adopting a dog for over a decade. Over the last couple of years I've fallen in love with Italian Greyhounds and have researched their breed and dreamed about "some day." I have spent hours and hours online looking at adoptable IGs in several surrounding states and finally this summer decided the time was right. I filled out the adoption forms and enjoyed our home visit by one of the Lincoln IG rescue volunteers and met an older adoptable IG who we fell in love with. Our family was wanting a younger dog and I figured it'd be several months or maybe even a year before one was available. I was surprised to receive a call after only a couple of weeks saying that a young female was just received at a foster home. I went to visit her the very next day and my heart melted. I couldn't stop thinking about her! The foster family was amazing; very helpful and patient answering my questions and working with my schedule. The foster family took her to a vet who checked her health, cleaned her teeth and spayed her. Within only a week and a half or so of meeting her, we were able to bring our IG home with us to her 'forever home.' She has made the transition very well and we adore her!
My experience with the Lincoln IG Rescue has been extremely positive. The response time to my queries and application as well as the volunteer who conducted the home visit were all excellent. The foster family blew me away! Their care for our little IG as well as another foster dog in their home blessed me and inspired me.
I'm grateful to all the volunteers who make this possible for people like me to receive the benefit of a longed for forever friend!
I was at a another show in Lincoln, NE and noticed there was a Dog show next door. I decided to go over and see what was available. I had been wanting to adopt an Itilian Grayhound so wanted to see what was available.
I did find the one I wanted that day and was treated with the utmost respect. All those at the booth took time to visit with me and answer all my questions and tell me how to get my application in. All thru the process, they were extremely polite and helpful making sure I knew what each step was.
I was so thrilled the day they came for the home inspection and was told they felt I would be a good match for the dog I had chosen.
The day I went to pick my new pet up was one of the best days for me. I was allowed plenty of time to get to know my dog and ask more questions. They provided me wil lots of information, contacts and have since kept in touch with me.
They invite me and my dog to monthy outings which have been fun. This has been a great experience and I highly recommend the Lincoln Rescue group of the Italian Greyhound.
I am very happy with the two Italian Greyhounds that I adopted through the Iowa/Nebraska rescue group. This will be the only rescue that I will get my dogs from in the future as I was so impressed with them.
The information and the photos of the dogs on the website is easy to access and the adoption process was straightforward with help only a phone call away if needed.
The foster families of both my dogs are still in contact, always interested and able to give advice if there are problems of any kind. With my latest dog, Jack, there was there was the problem of him barking and lunging while we were out walking. It was so bad that I did not want to take him out. Thomas, the foster dad went to all kinds of lengths to find a solution, after talking to Scott at the rescue foundation, the pinch collar seemed to be the answer. Thomas bought a collar and sent it to me (how amazing is that?!) and Jack is a different dog out walking now!!! Thankfully....as it had been quite traumatic before.
I am very appreciative of the help and the thoughtfulness of everyone involved and I love my dogs.
I have told many people about this group and will continue to do so.
Thank you Iowa/Nebraska Italian Greyhound Rescue!!!
Nadine King----and---Vito and Jack
We have previously had 2 IG's. Our second girl was adopted through Iowa/Nebraska Rescue. They were extremely helpful in that process. These people are very dedicated in finding forever homes for these amazing dogs. We are most grateful.!!
I saw a Italian Greyhound on petfinder and I was impressed by the completeness of the review process. It make me understand how much they want to connect the right owner with the right dog. The foster parent of our future dog did a site visit and I could see that they really cared about animals. We've had our dog for several months now and we couldn't be happier.
I have worked with both Nebraska and Colorado IG rescue. Both are absolutely amazing and they worked together so well. Very impressed with the application process. This is our second IG and I was pleased to find out that the process has not changed and is still very very thorough.
I began by adopting and Italian Greyhound. I found the personality phenomenal. After that I began fostering. This led to many, many fosters in my home and the adoption of two fosters. I have also transported IGs as well as other breeds to their "forever" homes. It is such a joy to witness from the people and animals when they meet.
Five years ago I was on pet finders looking for a dog for my neighbor. As I was perusing the site this picture and story jumped out and I had to read about this wonderful Ialian Greyhound with special needs who was up for adoption. At the time I had 3 dogs and was not looking for another. This sweet boy had been lovingly cared for by the Lincoln NE Italian Greyhound Rescue organization. I filled out the application, talked on the phone and within a few weeks welcomed Tee into my home. The adoption was very smooth and I was impressed with the organization . I can't begin to express the love and care this organization gives to all of the I G's that come into its care. The staff and volunteers are very dedicated to educating people about the breed, taking in IGs from numerous states, finding suitable homes for foster care and adoption, and over all very professional.
We adopted Lacey from IG Rescue. She is a very timid-older girl and had been in a breeding center for the first eight years of her life. She is still quite reserved but comes out of her shell a little more every day. IG Rescue is very concerned about the dogs they take in and want to make sure that they are well taken care of prior to adopting. They also make sure that adopters have a great environment that will work for the dog and client alike.
This rescue organization is a blessing to both IGs and their humans! Over the years, they have helped countless IGs get adopted and placed into "fur"ever homes. They do thorough checks to be sure each dog is placed in the right home! They offer support, advice, and tips for taking care of this rarer breed. The management of this nonprofit is passionate about IG rescue, which is reflected in the care the dogs receive while in the rescue. The members of this organization are caring and supportive! I feel lucky to have found such a great network of IG owners! I knew nothing about this rescue prior to looking into adopting an IG. I currently have two IGs I adopted from this rescue organization. IG Rescue is wonderful. They helped me and my two IGs "get a new leash on life".
This is a great organization with a big heart for little hounds. I help as I can with my local IGRF affiliate and I know how dedicated folks are to finding permanent, loving homes for the dogs entrusted to their care. And, I'm a foster mom failure, having adopted my most recent IG foster dog. She is a wonderful, older dog who would have died because of a previously undiagnosed illness if it hadn't been for the medical intervention she got as the result of being taken in by IG rescue.
Through this wonderful organization many many IGs get placed in wonderful caring homes. It takes many people to do this properly, and everyone works together very hard to make things happen properly. I'm so proud to be connected to an org. that does such wonderful things.
I'm so glad to have found this rescue group! We had an Italian Greyhound for a couple of months, but at the time we could not provide her with a fenced yard, or the time she needed. We knew she deserved better, and I found IGRF online. I contacted them, and they were very understanding. They were grateful that we were doing what was best for her. The love, dedication, time, and resources these people put into this is amazing. Lacy is now with other greyhounds, enjoying life to the fullest!!
They helped me find my four legged best friend a few years ago and were amazing at helping me find the right dog and giving me information about the Italian Greyhounds. Since then I have fallen in love with the breed and the people involved with the rescue. It is an amazing group of people and dogs and I feel fortunate to be part of it and be able to foster these dogs. The state representatives do an awesome job at organizing getting dogs into foster homes, home visits, and finding them their forever homes.
I have never met a more caring and dedicated group of people as those who work with Italian Greyhound Rescue (IGRF). We have seen some very sad little ones come through our doors, and it is so heart-warming to watch them blossom and become happy pups once their health and nutritional needs are met. My hats off to those who tirelessly work to try to find foster homes and forever homes for these sweet little guys!
The people who volunteer their time to place these dogs are without a doubt the MOST valuable to the success of adoption. I have had horses, dogs etc,.....always an advocate to an animals well being...a little Italian greyhound TESSA whom I adopted made the biggest impressionistic change on our lives ( husband and myself).....she was placed in my life which leafy housed two big greys....if it were not for the understanding and direction received...I would have missed one of the most special things ever given to me in my lifetime!!!.......she is so a part of our lives...I cannot imagine our lives without this little silly diva!
IGCA is an important life line to Italian Greyhound Breed. The Rescue portion of the organization goes way above and beyond treating IGs that come through the organization with catastrophic medical issues. I know. I have fostered many an IG that has been owner surrendered because they could not the vet bills. Our volunteers network with each other, share information, and the joy of a successful recovery for medical issues and placement in a new forever home. Our rescue organization focuses on correct placement for our beloved breed, the first time. Our organizations provides a lifetime of education and ideas for our adoptive families. We have an awesome volunteer staff... nationally. Each of us play an important part in supporting our breed. As a volunteer, my state representatives are super knowledgeable and always willing to share ideas, advice and offer support. The focus first and always is the welfare of our beloved breed.
Worked hard to help me find an Iggy that was right for me. Though I ended up adopting from another rescue organization, I was so impressed that I will soon be volunteering as a foster mom.
Great group of people who are all in it for the sake of the dogs.....100% volunteer so all money goes for the care of homeless Italian Greyhounds. The organization provides vetting and the dogs live in private homes as part of their foster families while they wait to be adopted to carefully screened homes.
I have been involved in many different aspects of IGCA rescue for many years. As an adopter, I couldn't have been more impressed. As a volunteer, I take great pride in many very important aspects of the process: 1) Taking a dog in to rescue and giving it all it needs to thrive 2) Helping that dog along the way as it learns what it is like to simply live, in some cases 3) Finding the perfect home for our perfect dog so both the dog and family are happy 4) Continuing contact with adopters so we can help them if needed, or get a picture to make our day, and 5) All of the above, ONLY IF we are unable to provide enough help to the owner(s) that want to try to keep their beloved family member. When our collaborative attempts fail, we gladly/sadly take their IG in to rescue (starting #1) with the promise that we will give our new buddy nothing but the best, for life. Rescue...Rehab...Rehome...Repeat, until there are none needing our help.
I've been volunteering for Italian Greyhound Rescue for over 7 years and I'm so impressed with the level of veterinary care these dogs receive prior to finding homes for them. This organization is filled with caring and loving people who are committed to finding wonderful homes for our dogs.
I am the treasurer for this wonderful organization and am proud to be working with such a dedicated group of people. From the Boards (Foundation and Rescue), to the Area Coordinators, Rescue Representatives, Volunteers and Fundraising team - all give 100% with their hearts as no salaries are paid out. With over 900 Italian Greyhounds coming into Rescue each year funds are sorely needed and 100% of them are used to rehab, and re-home Italian Greyhounds in need. We have no kennels, all of our dogs are lovingly cared for in foster homes across the entire United States. I can tell you from personal experience that this organization is one of the finest 501(c)3 charities in existence today.
Donations to this organization only benefit the animals they serve. Historically, 99% or more of the donations are spent on the animals in their care every year, since they do not have any paid staff. The whole organization is run by volunteers from the board and president, down to the local level within each state. All vet bills are scrutinized at the itemized level to ensure donations spent on the animals are not being spent on unnecessary costs, so that they may continue to serve other animals in the future. The organizational structure is very well-formed for a small charity, with local state representatives, regional coordinators and the overseeing chairperson and board ensuring things run smoothly and each animal receives the best available care, without wasteful spending. The rescue representatives are all passionate about helping animals within their care, finding quality adoptive homes, and seeking out other Italian Greyhounds needing assistance. If you want your donation to be spent on the animals, rather than going to pay salaries, advertising, or other expenses, this is a charity you should consider.
