I work with ICAN as a volunteer. Its of great experience , lots of help to many patients. Recommended as highly professional organization.
I am studying medicine in Egypt and also I had a great opportunity to be a volunteer at ICAN. So I would like to say it is a wonderful experience and I'm most grateful and thankful to ICAN amazing team and Marcia Horn, the CEO and President. I'm still enjoying my volunteering time with ICAN. ICAN is one of the most greatest non-profit organizations I have ever seen in helping the cancer patients. ICAN has an amazing board who are working 24/7. I am and will be always be supportive to ICAN.
I am volunteering with ICAN for more than 3 years. Very friendly and professional environment with enthusiastic and great people. As a soon to be doctor, my time is tight in medical school and I better invest in it the most rewarding way, I volunteered with many governmental and non- governmental organizations, almost everywhere, online, in Sudan, Saudi Arabia... but nothing could be of more value than the reward of promoting the noble cause of helping cancer patients. I enjoyed my time with ICAN, doing what I like to do and learning new skills and improving what I already have. Great experience. Also, the CEO, the team leaders and members, as well as the admin team, all of them are down to earth, helpful and very kind. I'm leaving 5 stars on my review, I recommend ICAN highly without preservation!
ICAN has been amazingly responsive with recommendations, referrals and options for second opinions as I have navigated the confusing and complicated medical system related to cancer treatment for my mother. It's clear that many cancer patients and families need resources and counsel to seek the best care and clearly understand the options available. I'm sure that many families and cancer patients have found themselves confounded and, unfortunately, unable to get the answers and resources they need before it's too late. ICAN is a service that should be known and available to all dealing with these issues of health and comfort.
I am doing volunteering work with ICAN. It is a great organization and is helping so many cancer patients. They are working around the clock to help as many patients as they can. I love what they are doing and I so much admire what Marcia Horn is doing for the patients. I am a doctor from Egypt. The ALL deserve the best.
A friend of mine referred my mother and I to ICAN to look for additional treatments for my mother’s colon cancer. From the very start, Marcia helped to usher us into the world of clinical trials and held our hand as we walked through options with my mother’s oncologist.
The world of cancer is a confusing and disorienting place; trying to understand incomprehensible medical terminology, available clinical trials for specific cancers, doctor and hospital specializations, and even the steps for seeking treatment is overwhelming. ICAN offers an invaluable source of help and guidance that enable patients to both understand their treatment options and find the right care.
I can’t thank Marcia and the ICAN team enough for the work that they do. Although my mom is still battling cancer, their work provides immense value for families and enables us to sleep a little better at night. Thank you for your hard work and excellent service.
ICAN is an outstanding patient/family/caregiver resource organization. Expert access to medical information that is trusted, respected, relied upon - that is what patients can count on. That is what they need. The CEO of ICAN is a dedicated professional through and through, with outstanding credentials that represent the organization at very high levels, which in turn allows for a very creditable resource organization that patients and families can consistently count on as the "go to" resource for all forms of cancer/sarcoma. This organization will always connect patients with experts regarding a particular cancer related question pertaining to a diagnosis or treatment, or radiologiy study involving the treatment process/monitoring of a patient.
As a cancer survivor myself, I have experienced the confusion, fear and isolation first hand that come after diagnosis. An advocate can (literally) make the difference between life and death. Following my mother's diagnosis with colon cancer, my family was blessed to find Marcia Horn at ICAN. From the beginning, she was our educated, compassionate, knowledgable, objective support system. Marcia made herself readily available (via phone and email) at that crucial decision making time. She advised us on the latest medical findings and trends, second opinion resources and best practices for followup after treatment. It's overwhelming to be the patient or the family member and care giver, ICAN fills a vital role. Marcia and ICAN, I cannot thank you enough!!
I am vikram singh jakhar from new delhi, India. my father is suffering from prostate cancer and Marcia K Horn( President and CEO of ICAN ) guided me in my fathers treatment. I am highly obliged and really appreciate her for helpful guidance.
ICAN was invaluable to my family during my Mother's recent episode of colon cancer. She is 86 years old, with atrial fib and the risks to surgery and possible extreme treatments after was frightening. ICAN and Marcia Horn guided us through the questions to ask the Physician, did investigative work on who was the best provider in OKC and provided a radiologist to view the images and provide a second opinion. In short, they were available to us 24/7 and made a scary situation manageable.
I will recommend and support ICAN anyway possible in the future, this is important work.
Marcia Horn and ICAN have helped so many patients navigate the oncology world by providing resources and time to get the best care in the country. They are able to get access to almost any provider and drug available if that is what it takes to help a patient. ICAN doesn't take No for an answer and provides hope for families that often feel they have no other help or resources by helping them empower themselves through the complicated world of oncology. They need as much funding as possible because it means more patients can stay alive and beat cancer.
We heard of Marcia Horn and ICAN through a cousin, who was working in the medical field, and my husband just took a chance, at the beginning of our journey with bc, and called her cold without any introduction, and even though we have never met her in person, she has been a rock for my husband, as she responds to his every email, with positive information and support. This began in 2013 and he still corresponds with her till this very day. Thank you Marcia and ICAN. from Marilyn in Tennessee.
ICAN is a fantastic resource for patients and a topnotch advocacy organization. I have referred patients to ICAN and they go above and beyond to assist patients in need of resources as they struggle with a cancer diagnosis regardless of the location of the patient. They are well versed in the latest research and clinical trials. They have resources far and wide around the country through their strong relationships with patient volunteers as well as medical and academic contacts. I will continue to refer patients in need to ICAN.
Amazing organization. I referred friend who had Stage 3 lung cancer. This is precision medicine as it was intended to be.
This is a unique and world-class nonprofit which does what (to my knowledge) no other nonprofit world-wide does on behalf of the most critically-ill cancer patients. The tributes to this organization from patients and their families are endless, employing expressions like "you saved my life" and "we will never be able to adequately thank you." Yet ICAN remains scrupulously objective, realistic, and science-based in its approach to helping patients, doing what no doctor does or can do: seek out and advocate the best cancer care and clinical trials available in the entire arena of cancer therapies. The fact that this organization is international and that it charges nothing for its services is truly miraculous.
ICAN allows for working alongside renowned experts at the frontier of today's medicine. It is my conviction that ICAN's detailed letter of recommendation about me, written by ICAN's CEO Marcia Horn and ICAN's Director of Research Services Regina Marie Klopfer, enabled my admission into my first-choice graduate program. IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis) offers translational bioinformatics and other cutting-edge research areas in close association with the Indiana University School of Medicine, and I look forward to contributing what I learned under ICAN as a Health Disparities Research Intern.
I greatly enjoyed my time as an intern and Research Team Leader at ICAN. It was most productive, and the Research Teams are very well managed.
The staff is dedicated, patient centered, and continuously provides "above and beyond" individualized service.
There are simply not enough stars to rate International Cancer Advocacy Network (ICAN) as high as they should be rated! I am an elderly, low-income grandmother who has been recently diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. It was so, so scary at first. My experience with ICAN has been critical, life-saving, inspiring, motivating, empowering, and amazing! The ICAN advisors have helped me take charge of my Stage IV colon cancer diagnosis. ICAN has a tremendous knowledge base of cutting-edge advanced genetic and other cancer research that even the top-class practitioners in the United States do not *yet* use routinely with all their patients. ICAN has worked tirelessly, promptly, and caringly to help me 1) understand my diagnosis; 2) find the absolute world-class top doctors near my home; 3) introduced me and the doctors to advanced research to personalize my care; 4) supported me *every step* of the way with advice, interpretation of doctor's recommendations, and guidance; 5) provided inspirational, positive motivation to me. I am elated to report that, despite my very serious stage of cancer, and my elderly, low-income status with no other "connections" in the medical world except ICAN, I am making great progress towards curing this cancer! ICAN has helped me access the best treatment possible with their tremendous knowledge base of research and has helped me feel confident that I am getting the best cancer care available today in the United States -- for instance, the advanced genetic and protein profiling that ICAN has introduced to me and to my nationally-recognized top cancer doctors at one of our country's top cancer centers, would not have happened without ICAN's help. I only feel bad that I do not have the financial resources to help ICAN as much as they have helped me. I thank every and any person involved with ICAN -- volunteers, researchers, doctors, employees, and financial donors -- for giving me hope and changing my life. I am so confident in their value that I have been spreading the word about ICAN to other cancer patients I meet, including, tragically, even very young cancer patients. ICAN can make a difference, and I will also support them in any possible way that *I-CAN!*
ICAN is proving to be a leader in the fight against cancer. Working with patients to battle their unique challenges, the International Cancer Advocacy Network has helped countless families take on the task.
Over the past 6 years, I have had the pleasure of volunteering with ICAN and I can honestly say it is a wonderful experience. As Director of Research Services, I have the honor of working with some of the finest and most dedicated individuals around. Without Andrew Young (our Director of HR), Michele Ouellet (our Citation Editor), all of our extraordinary Research Team Leaders and as well as our truly committed Web Research…I can honestly we could never accomplish our goals so each and every one of them is truly appreciated on so many levels. ICAN is a truly amazing organization and it is truly needed in this world.
I have known ICAN for more than 15 years and can speak of their utmost integrity, efficacy and making an enormous difference in the patients and families who are facing cancer challenges. Not only do they have some of the best and up-to-date information but they continually reach out to those fighting this dreadful disease to help them navigate and understand the treatments and potentials to win their battles.
I can without hesitation endorse and encourage this organization as a 'best of the best' non-profits. I could not recommend them more highly.
We have known Marcia and seen her work tirelessly with ICANN from the beginning. She has helped many of our family members when we have needed assistance in the hospital or recommendations for the very best Dr. for any situation. She helped us find the very best Pediatric GI Specialist when our son was diagnosed with EE, she helped my sister when she was in the hospital in intensive care for Sepsis, helped our friend find a top fertility specialists in Phoenix and the list goes on. She is truly amazing and ICANN is essential for continuing to help people with their medical care with Cancer and many other medical situations. Marcia and ICANN are the first place we turn to when we need help and assistance with our medical needs. There truly are no words for how helpful they have been. Thank you Marcia.
ICAN and Marcia Horn have been the first place our family has turned to in several critical health situations. Marcia is amazing with her knowledge of Dr's and specialists for every medical situation that we have had to deal with. She has helped our son find one of the best Pedicatric Gastrointerologist in the nation to help him with his medical condition, pointed us in right direction when our Father was in a burn unit from an explotion, was one of the first to realize and help us when a family member was in intensive care and had sepsis and helped us in so many other instances. We can't say enough about ICAN and personally don't know what we would have done without Marcia and her kindness to always help us. She has been there for us and helped us at any hour and we feel blessed to have someone like Marcia and ICAN that we can turn to. Paula Shapiro
Truly amazing organization! I contacted ICAN for a friend of mine in China. Marcia and Scott provided valuable information and endless consultations. They are very sensitive to cultural barriers and practice differences and was able to put together a panel of experts from US and China to help my friend! I am so amazed by ICAN's powerful network, from cancer researchers, clinicians, to patient advocates. And it is this network of selfless, passionate, and knowledgeable experts who provide hope to my friend that the family and I are forever grateful.
After our world was turned up-side-down with my husbands cancer diagnosis we didn't know where to turn. An acquaintance mentioned ICAN. The information, support, service and attention we received far exceeded any expectations. Marcia responded after hours and on weekends to get us information and help us navigate our way through the confusion. Phenomenal organization!!! Incredible woman. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!!
Forever Grateful, the Milazzo Family
As a volunteer in a local "Wig Boutique" I am in contact with cancer patients on a daily basis. Many of them have talked positively about their ICAN experience and specifically mentioned Sherry Weinstein as a fabulous resource for them. Her compassion, patience and persistence in assisting them in their quests for knowledge have comforted them and led them to treatments not before known to them. I have personally spoken to her and feel that her representation as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of ICAN is exemplary and that this organization goes above and beyond the basics at all times in order to aid those in need. We all need to support ICAN with donations so they can continue their inspirational work.
When my father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer several years ago, we learned about ICAN from some friends who referred us to Sherry Weinstein. She was wonderful at putting us in contact with the people at ICAN who were able to advise us on how to understand what was happening and what dad's options were. I have contributed to them and would recommend that others support ICAN's efforts.
Marcia Horn and ICAN work tirelessly in an effort to serve those in need. The patients are always put first and Marcia answers all inquiries almost immediately. She and her staff have an amazing amount of information at their fingertips, and can help direct patients very quickly to those that can help them. My husband and I are very grateful to ICAN and Marcia and we are in wonder of all they can do as advocates. They deserve and need more funding so they can reach more people that find themselves needing answers and direction at a time when all seems so frightening and confusing. Marcia and her team are just incredible.
This is what is needed: a place where cancer patients are the "important". Marcia Horn and ICAN are there for you. Present, helping you, advising you, and you feel their help is real, efficient, effective, and caring. I can't and I don't want to imagine this "journey" without her.
I have been aware of ICAN for only the past few months, but I have been truly amazed by the quality and extent of the services this organization provides to cancer patients and their care givers/families. Marcia Horn is a tireless patient advocate who goes far beyond the extra yard to ensure that the patients who contact ICAN get not only the best information regarding treatment options for their particular cancer, but also assist them getting access to the best physicans to treat them. ICAN also is working hard on various legislative fronts to ensure patient safety by ensuring that patients and their physicians will know what medication they are receiving as new biosimilar medications begin arriving on the market in the future for the treament of various cancers. ICAN is also working to obtain further governmental funding for research on rare cancers such as sarcomas. I am glad that my wife introduced me to ICAN and look forward to supporting and working with this organization in the future.
I have been both a volunteer and a seeker of help from ICAN, International Cancer Advocacy Network for about a year and a half. I have been more than impressed with the one-on-one, professional, and highly-educated information, resources, and referrals provided -- and provided now, when I needed it. No waiting rooms at ICAN. You move to the front of the line immediately.
Marcia K. Horn is a modern day Mother Theresa. I don’t know how she has enough hours in the day to respond and interact so personally with each patient or family member, friend, or caregiver who comes to ICAN for assistance.
I feel honored to have been accepted as a volunteer in this excellent organization. I screened organizations prior to volunteering to see how much of the donations they receive actually go to those they serve. Guess what? About 94 percent of all monies taken in goes to patients and patient services. Almost all the staff is like me— volunteer and logging long hours—because we believe in the cause and we see that ICAN is one darned good and exceptional organization.
My brother in law was given a short window to live and I recommended that my sister call and within ten minutes Marcia the president was giving wise counsel they needed to extend his life in a quality way.
Just last month one of my clients mentioned that her chemo drug was no longer going to be available through insurance. One call to Ms. Horn and she is now receiving her medication. Her response was, "Last week we had no hope but this week we have hope."
Marcia Horn is truly amazing and has assembled a team that is second to none.
Marcia Horn is amazing. I sent her an email when I first got her name, and she was back to me on the phone in 10 minutes. Prompt, extremely knowledgeable, and ready any time , day or night, to discuss my brother's cancer treatment. I don't know what we would have done without her. And I'm very thankful she was there for us.
My wife has been dealing with stage IV lung cancer for 3 + years. She and I had the good fortune, almost by accident, to become clients more than a year ago. I cannot really begin to say how much Marcia has helped us - both in practical ways and in many less tangible but perhaps even more important emotional ways. She has always made herself available practically 24/7 to answer question, bounce ideas off, offer advice, etc., etc. , etc. Really this list just goes on and on. She is always upbeat, always positive, and always persistent. They really could use help to raise funds so that they can serve more clients.
Marcia Horn at ICAN, a leading cancer advocacy group, is in total service to her cancer patients. Her personal phone calls were beneficial to our understanding of the process; the medical terms, the tests, the legalities, the doctors and services. We were so surprised when she called us, herself— and spoke with my husband—sometimes for 2 hours, late into the night. She understands the stress, the horrors of cancer diagnosis and she is trained to read medical tests and patient files. She is all action and knows the facts. When predatory cancer organizations stuff their pockets with patient contributions and give nothing to the families, hers is a free service for anyone in need. Thank you ICAN for your dedication and compassion.
Wow, words cannot express my thanks to Marcia Horn & the ICAN organization. I called ICAN on a Saturday morning & left my name & number. Within minutes I received a phone call from Marcia Horn. Marcia spent over an hour talking to my husband & I. I called to inquire about help for my brother who has renal cell carcinoma. She provided some excellent referrals & even agreed to speak to my brother & his wife. Later that day, again she spent over an hour speaking with our entire family. Marcia answered questions & provided the encouragement which we all needed. We have continued to contact Marcia daily & she responds within a few minutes. She & ICAN are amazing. What a wonderful service they provide at such a difficult time in people's lives. Thank you to ICAN & Marcia for being there. We are so very grateful!
When our mother was stricken with ovarian cancer our family did not know where to turn. We heard about ICAN and Marcia Horn. When we contacted Marcia she was more then happy to meet with my family and help guild us through what was happening and what to expect along with some options. Even being over 3000 miles away it was nice to know there was someone great in our corner. I can't thank Marcia & ICAN enough for all her help and leadership.
This is an amazing organization! I have volunteered and worked with Marcia Horn and ICAN for a number of years and enjoyed raising money and making great friends. Suddenly a few months ago ICAN took on a different meeting in my life when I was informed that a close friend was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. As soon as I received the information, I called Marcia and she went to work and spoke personally with my friend. Never mind that it was 9:45pm on a Friday night. Marcia took the bull by the horns and gave specific step by step instructions and phone numbers. As a result, and due to our fast acting, my friend is now 94% cancer free. The entire process from diagnosis to final results was 3 weeks. Without Marcia Horn and the ICAN organization, my friend would never have received the level of care that she did. Thank you!
There are angels on this earth!!!
I landed on the ICAN website by way of a recommendation from a friend and I had a mortal angel fly in and land on my doorstep. Her name is Marcia Horn of ICAN and she turned our world from Black and White to Technicolor! From out first meeting she went out of her way to make some great suggestions and recommend state of the art ways of dealing with my mom (Pearl) Ovarian Cancer. She helped us line up some good doctors and was always around to help our family to answer any questions we had on the labyrinth of cancer therapies.
ICAN is a great resource and I recommend it to anyone who must face a cancer therapy and is unsure where to turn, to consult with ICAN.
My association with ICAN started five years ago when I joined as Web Research Intern, transitioned to Research Team Leader and now working as member of International Physicians Council. During my time at ICAN, I've been extremely impressed by the program's commitment towards health care and cancer research excellence. Personally, I feel so blessed and grateful to have known and worked with such fantastic team without whose dedication and commitment, the gargantuan task of cancer projects can't be completed.
Not only have I enjoy working with Regina (Director Research Services), I learnt the dynamics of effective team management. She has always stood by me and my team whenever we need her and smoothed many hitches by her unconditional hand of cooperation at all times. Her strong work ethic, uplifting spirit, and wonderful attitude makes her an asset for ICAN.
Another person whom I've really enjoy working is Michèle . She is a brilliant Citation Editor who painstakingly corrects every assignment that is sent her way . She has a remarkable ability to oversee a large project without losing sight of the little things.
Last but not the least, The dynamic and passionate leadership of Marcia makes this Non Profit stand out amongst others. I feel that Marcia is an exceptional leader and a genuinely good person. Not only she brings a keen intellect to all quarters of ICAN, she enhances the ICAN community with her worldliness and humanism.
Because though I have branched out higher, the roots have grown a bit more deeper .
As they say " Even the smallest act of caring for another person is like a drop of water -it will make ripples throughout the entire pond...”
I sincerely hope that our ICAN family ripples reach far and wide and make difference in lives of those in need.
ICAN has been a wonderful organization to work with. It truly celebrates diversity by bringing together people of different cultures, backgrounds and professions at crux of passion : of helping others. My journey with has been amazing as well as rewarding for ICAN helped me grow as a professional as well as person. Being a Research Team Leader,I had an opportunity to work closely with CEO, Marcia K Horn and Director Research Services, Regina Marie Klopfer. Found them thoroughly professional and always there to smooth the glitches for the team members. ICAN's deep commitment towards empowering late stage cancer patients with latest treatments and approaches speaks volumes for the kind of inspiring organization it is. Outstanding Patient care, high volunteer satisfaction and high professionalism makes ICAN a class apart
I strongly recommend and urge to support ICAN in any way you can. It definitely needs more funding so that even more patients can be helped!
I've said it before and I'll happily say it again: in my sixteen years volunteering for ICAN (including about eight years serving as Chairman of the Board), I continue to see miracles happen ... lives being extended with the best possible quality of life. Because of the extremely worthy work done by all those on Team ICAN, I become recommitted - every day - to that team and to those patients who count on us. With day-to-day eyewitnessing of ICAN's small but mighty staff and its more than 1000-strong volunteer base working around the world and around the clock, I am convinced that ICAN is THE most patient-friendly and helpful cancer organization on the planet. With more funding dollars, we would be able to help that many more desperate patients, and if I were to win the lottery, I would put a little away to take care of my family and then donate the rest to ICAN.
As Chairman of the Board of ICAN, I am the organization's lead volunteer and cheering squad for our very small staff and hundreds of volunteers around the world! In the thirteen plus years during which I have volunteered for ICAN, I have witnessed the amazing work done by this organization, along with the gratitude of countless patients and their families. I truly believe that of all the cancer organizations on the face of the planet, ICAN is the only one that actually “goes to bat” for patients and their families … extending lives and improving patient quality of life along the way. Every day, I am reminded by grateful patients that all volunteer efforts and donor support for ICAN could not go to a more worthy organization.
I began volunteering with ICAN 4 years ago and have been a Research Team Leader for 3 of those years. The organization is comprised of dedicated, passionate people at all levels, particularly Regina Marie Klopfer and Marcia Horn who provide strong, compassionate leadership. Every ICAN volunteer, regardless of his or her background, is a valued member of the team. It has been such a privilege to be part of an organization that is a driving force for oncology patient advocacy at every level. ICAN is a truly special organization doing phenomenal work.
I have had the immense pleasure of working with ICAN for 3 years as both an intern and a Research Team Leader. The commitment of ICAN's leadership to serving cancer patients, caregivers, and families is unmistakable and results in a deeply-embedded service ethic that permeates the entire organization. Volunteers at every level are given honest feedback and a network of support that enables them to fully develop and contribute their skills while working within a very diverse team. ICAN strives to ensure cancer patients have access to cutting-edge, evidence-based medicine, and every patient served by ICAN is provided with individualized support to navigate the patient journey. Having cultivated a culture of compassion and an extensive network of experts, Marcia Horn has built an organization with a special capacity to make a profound difference.
I started out at ICAN as Web Research Intern. In this position, I searched online for articles related to Esophageal Cancer. I enjoyed this position because it gave me an opportunity to learn about cancer. Searching for and reviewing articles helped me earn about how cancer develops, methods used to detect and diagnose, how cancer drugs work, causes of cancer and actions a person can take to reduce their risk of cancers. Volunteering for ICAN is also good position for someone who doesn't have the time to learn about cancers, the causes of it, and how to prevent it because it exposes you to the resources you need to learn about it and forces you to devote the time to learn for yourself. The effort you make benefits you and others. Finally, I like the position because it gives me an opportunity to help another person and rebuild their hope. I like the work ICAN does and how it strives to encourage a person at the late stage of their life to hold on, keep trying, and stands with them till the end. It's an organization with excellent values. In my new position, I get to review abstracts collected by other volunteers. The position has helped me improve in my organization skills. I have to keep track of topics assigned, whom topics are assigned, when topics are due, maintain contact with volunteers to check on status of assignments, review, and provide feedback. It helps both volunteers develop transferrable skills that are valuable in the workforce and in school.
I think ICAN is a great organization to volunteer for. They provided beneficial and needed services to people who otherwise may not be aware or have access to free of charge. It helps patients stay aware, become better and informed decision makers so they can become more involved in healthcare they receive or team players with their physicians in treating their conditions. Doctors do not always have the time to do the extra legwork to research a patients’ condition or look at the latest in treatment for their condition. ICAN does the legwork for them so they can also be a better resource for their patients. For the staff and volunteers, it gives them an opportunity to develop transferable skills that help them in the workforce and school. ICAN services and work benefit everyone around the world. It being on the web gives doctors and cancer patients from around the world access to a library of resources in one location that they otherwise may not be able to have access to due to poverty or other factors.
To be able to continue doing their great work, ICAN needs more funding. I hope you can see that your money will not be wasted after reading this and the other reviews.
Amazing organization with amazing people. This organization truly did help me when I needed advice and I needed guidance with a family member who was struggling with the cancer battle. I've been volunteering for this now for over 3 years, and I cannot stress enough how awesome this place is. We collect the most up to date literature on cancers and distribute the information to oncologists, patients, and families so that way they can have the most up to date resources when fighting this ugly disease. With more information available, patients are able to make the best, most informed decisions regarding their patient care, and thus, get better results.
Thank you ICAN!
I've been volunteering for ICAN for about 6 years now (since I was a Junior in college) and it has been an amazing experience. Not only has it been a rewarding experience volunteering my time, but it has been an absolute privilege and joy working for people who are so compassionate and understanding about the cause. Marcia Horn and Regina Marie Klopfer are exemplary leaders and an honor to work for. They make sure you are comfortable in your volunteering role and are very appreciative of the time you put into ICAN. All in all, it's been a wonderful six years and I look forward to dedicating many more years to come.
I've been volunteering with ICAN for the last 2 years and never felt lost! The management is awesome and the tasks are rewarding.
It has been a pleasure volunteering for ICAN, a non for profit organization geared at empowering late stage oncology patients. Having witnessed family members battle cancer and now being in a position to empower such patients is truly a rewarding experience. Many thanks to Marcia Horn and Regina Marie Klopfer tireless efforts in running and managing the organization.
It is a privilege to work Marcia Horn and the rest of the ICAN volunteer team. The work ICAN does is vital to cancer research and advocacy on a local and global scale, while bringing individualized case care to each patient. I am honored to know this organization exist for patients in need and running with the highest of integrity.
It's been two and a half years since I have been working for ICAN as a research team leader. I got chance to work with some of the most talented and dedicated people of this organization, Ms Marcia Horn, the CEO and Ms. Regina Marie Klopfer, Director of Research Services. I communicate often with Ms. Regina for my work and she has been extremely helpful in fulfilling our needs. She is one of the most dedicated, passionate and hardworking staff at ICAN. Working at ICAN has been extremely rewarding as I learned so many qualities from our great mentors. It is a true pleasure to be a part this organization.
ICAN is such an AMAZING nonprofit! I started volunteering at ICAN as a Web Research Intern, then transitioned to a Research Team Leader and now I'm volunteering directly with Regina Klopfer. The transitions between my different volunteer roles have been seamless and I feel as though I am truly part of the ICAN family. From the very beginning, Marcia has been so warm and inviting and Regina has helped me grow and succeed in my volunteer positions along the way. I am so appreciative for everything that ICAN does and could not be happier to be a part of this amazing team that is truly making a difference in people's lives!
I have worked with ICAN for many years, and have seen many lives saved and changed because of their help and dedication to patients. I have never seen anyone go above and beyond in so many ways to help, care and provide the help that ICAN does! Many lives would have been lost without them!!!!! Thank you ICAN for your dedication and services over the years!!!!!!!
Marcia Horn, and ICAN, as I have been told by my Father that they have been an amazing blessing for my Step-mom while she is battling canXer. She was diagnosed in July of 2013 with a breast malignancy, and Marcia has always been there for my day, as the care taker. No time of night was too late to reply to emails of worry that my dad had, and would quickly put his mind at ease. She has been a God send for my step-mom, and also for my dad. Thank you so much!!!!
Marcia Horn, and ICAN, have been, probably my number one crutch in helping my wife and I make decisions while fighting this horrible disease. My wife was diagnosed in July of 2013 with a breast malignancy, and Marcia has always been there for me, as the care taker. Even after office hours she has always answered my emails and been so amazing with her information and help. Especially in the beginning she was so informative at a time when we were scared to death, not that we aren't still, but I was so lucky finding her and ICAN.
What a refreshing and helpful organization ICAN has turned out to be for me as care giver to my wife who was diagnosed with a malignancy in her breast this summer. Without knowing anything about this horrific disease, my wife and I didn't have a choice but to set out on a journey to fight and try to win each day in order to get her health back on track. ICAN has been like a beacon in the wilderness providing information, direction, and most of all positive energy to help us and give us hope as we
are now into the third month of what has been successful treatments. They came at a time when we needed friendship as well as knowledge about what we were facing.
Marcia Horn and ICAN were invaluable in helping me find the right health care provider for my case. To have someone advocate for you - especially with stage IV cases - is so heartening and validating. Thank you ICAN for all you do to help those of us on this often confusing journey to find some light at the end of the tunnel!
Nonprofit organizations in general are a great way to gather community service volunteer hours. However, ICAN is much more than your typical Nonprofit organization. Working with all the members of ICAN for over two years now, I can personally say that this organization, from top to bottom, is filled dedicated, compassionate individuals who share a common goal - improving cancer treatments worldwide.
Marcia, Regina and all the other members of ICAN have spent countless hours helping a tremendous amount of people battle and beat their cancers, and I could not give this company a stronger recommendation.
Cancer can be considered the disease of our new generation, and when I first started working for ICAN I was fascinated by it. Moreover, I was interested in the amount of research going into the discovery of new treatments and cures for this terrible illness. However, what was lost was the step in between research and the implementation of new treatments. While new breakthroughs are coming in at an enormously high rate, there is only so much that oncologists can keep up with and keep their patients informed about. This is what ICAN does, as we serve to educated both patients and physicians on the newest research in every field of cancer.
I am living in the United States, and after learning about them, ICAN helped a friend of mine who is located in Shanghai, China. He has a recurrence of abdominal cancer that has challenged his oncologists in Shanghai. The support that ICAN has provided is so much more than I expected. They arranged to review my friend's case. Because the documents for his medical history were in Chinese, they had an expert here in the United States go over the documents and translate them. After going through his documents and learning about his cancer and previous history, ICAN suggested that my friend have molecular profiling done. They arranged for my friend to discuss this with a Chinese expert who was visiting Shanghai from the United States. My friend understands much better what questions to discuss with his oncologists in Shanghai and how to talk to them about molecular profiling. We hope that he will recover from his cancer. The support that Ms. Horn and ICAN give to my friend and his family is priceless we are so fortunate to have found them.
The international cancer advocacy network is in need of more funding to continue to help more patients as that continues to be ICAN's top priority.
I have been fortunate to work with so many dedicated volunteers over the last two years as part of ICAN’s Research Administration team. I think the most important attribute of ICAN is our quest to always have the timeliest up to date knowledge for doctors, medicines and procedures / trials matched to the patients and families we serve. Most all virtual volunteers rapidly adapt to their assignments from the instructional information we provide and become productive contributors within days of coming on board. The information collected from volunteers goes through a multi-tier process to ensure accuracy and relevance before ever reaching final output for dissemination.
I've been working with ICAN volunteers for about a year and been blown away by the level of commitment of not only the volunteers but the staff as well. All the volunteers questions are quickly resolved allowing the volunteers to focus on their work to help as many patients as possible.
ICAN is a fabulous organization to volunteer for. They are very caring and work hard for the patients. Everyone with ICAN is very organized and helpful and a pleasure to work with!
Ican is a fabulous organization, with great people involved that TRULY care about every person that comes to them. I have referred them to a few friends, and all have been extremely satisfied with the help they received. I love volunteering for this amazing organization, as I know my help will truly help Ican, help others! I look forward to volunteering at their golf fundraiser in just a couple weeks!
ICAN IS A WONDERFUL Non-profit that is truly an advocate for the patient and its family(s). ICAN is exhaustive in their quest to get doctors, trials, support and information to those in need. I believe they are more out of the box thinkers and believe people / patients should not be sent home to die; all avenues must be explored, conventionally and in non-conventional ways. The people I have sent to ICAN have be very appreciative of the respect ICAN gives to each individual knowing that everyone has a unique case and story to tell. This would be a well deserved recognition for this extraordinary non-profit.
